Would Anyone Be Interested In a "Where Are They Now" Series About Former LCS Players?

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 12:11 PM PDT

I've always wondered what happened to the players of LCS teams gone past, those who lost their starter spots, or bounced around and were never heard from again. I think it'd be really cool to see what happened to some of these players and see what they're up to now! Would there be enough support for this sort of thing?

ARAM Tips, Tricks and some unwritten rules

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 07:46 AM PDT

  • Do not play ARAM to troll - if you are coming from normal/ranked game, that you had a troll in your team, please don't go to ruin the fun to the other 9 players
  • Do not bully people for not plaing well - ARAM gives you a random champion from your collection and from the Free to play ones. So don't blame player X for not able to play properly. Try to give him some advices... not everyone is Yasuo main
  • Do not sleep in champion select - check your teammates, runes, masteries, skin (yeah some skins gives you small advantage...mostly white or with white particles1) )
  • Do not offer trade if you will reroll the taken champion - I dunno why people still do this?! When someone ask me for my pick, I assume that he is better than me or he wants to try it.... not that the will reroll it. (I've seen people that ask me for Nida, Fiddle, Ziggs...I accept the trade and they reroll... it makes me sad)
  • If you are going to reroll will be great to ask in the chat if someone wants to play the champion, that you are going to reroll - "someone wan't Urgot?" or "I will rerol" takes half a second
  • Better to not take a Snowball on marksmans - it's almost 99% of the times useless. For all other roles is OK option, but I prefer Exaust or Ignite
  • Check your teammates summoner spells - it's pointless to have more than 3 heals2), or 5 snowballs. Barrier, Ignite, Exaust are very usefull and with low cd
  • When you are going from base to lane - watch your path - sometimes people accidently take the Health relics, that may save someone elses life!
  • If you are low health do not afk waiting for the Relic - it's very annoying and does not help at all. Move, be usefull, bait skillshots etc.
  • It's OK to try different builds , but check your teammates and comunicate this. It's useless to build AP Riven, but if you have full AP compsition - AD Sona or AD Bard are very good choice
  • The game is teamfight oriented so stay as a team and work together. It's so stupid when your buddy is hooked by Blizcrank and you just watch him die
  • In ARAM there are late game champions as well - if you have Trynda, Twitch, Vayne, Trundle etc. - don't rush early fights. Clear waves and be patient
  • If everybody/someone is low - don't rush for the kill - this is a little bit specific, but my point is - Nexus>Tower>Relic>Kill>Vision>Farm - so if the entire enemy is low - push the tower. They will be not able to do much or will just suicide to buy. Also if there is 2/0/20 Sona that is low - don't rush the kill or worse - trade 1for1. For you it is better to have her low with basic items, instead of killing her and have her back with full HP and bunch of AP. Let her stay behind and struggle. Most people will play for the KDA and will not suicide properly
  • Your passive gold income is buffed3), so if someone needs farm more than you - help him - if someone needs minions to lifesteal or to stack - give it to him. Yeah Fiddle can get back a lot of health from one caster minion if you don't kill it instantly for the money
  • Poros follow people that have a Poro snax - sometimes this shows that there is someone in the bush (even if he is invisible). Feed the poro ^ ^
  • Check your team composition and build/max different if needed - sometimes your team doesn't have good poke, so will be better to max E on Nasus, or if the enemy have a lot of poke - max E on Riven
  • If you are at low health after a teamfight and it is in the later stages of the game, just die in the teamfight Too often do I see people run away with no health causing the next team fight to just be an auto-loss. (thanks to /u/whenthewhat )
  • Before healing yourself in a Health Relic, check if you have Grievous Wounds debuff - If you can, it's always better to wait a bit and heal more (thanks to /u/FoxPT for pointing this) ***

Some other useful tips and fun facts:

  • The relics spawn at 2:00 and respawn 60 seconds after being picked up. They restore health, mana, energy and gives you fury
  • The execute timer is still 13 seconds, so be patient and don't give the gold so you can spent some
  • There are a few specific items for this map, so check them - in some situations they are very usefull. you can check them here
  • In ARAM you can buy Oracle and it's very usefull vs. Teemo, Shaco, Vayne, Twitch, Eve etc. Thanks to /u/ChemtrailEUNE for pointing that Oracle grants detection of nearby stealthed traps and camouflaged units for up to 5 minutes
  • In ARAM you start with level 3 and you have 3 skill points to use (Azir is exeption - he start with 1 point on W and has 2 skill points to spend)
  • If you wait a while after the Victory (doesn't include a Defeat) screen at the end of the game, you will be able to hear Lissandra talking about herself and the Abyss.
  • You can see Lissandra's silhouette (upside down) in the red-side fountain (picture)
  • The Howling Abyss bridge is in the back of Lisandra's slpashart
  • You can use porosnax to feed the Poros. You start with 1 snax and get another when you destroy the first turret. If a Poro is fed with 10 Poro-Snax, it will explode, generating eight small Poros (video)
  • If a Poro gets too close to one of the two Obelisks, it gets fired by a laser and starts to run away (video)
  • As Braum if you feed a Poro with a Poro-snax, the Poro will grow a mustache (picture)
  • Towers and inhibitors do not regenerate health here. So you poke down inhibs and finish them off later (thanks to /u/go4ino for pointing this)

Some honorable mentions (thanks to /u/pacquan) * Do not attack players that are dancing before minions first arrive.

  • Always feed the Poro that Braum Feeds

  • Yes AP Susan E does that much damage

  • There is always a Shroom/Box on top of that Health Relic

  • Always try to die around lvl 5 so you can buy items and maximize your lvl 6 spike damage with full health/mana

  • Players who end the game without feeding any poros are heartless heathens and deserve to be reported.

To avoid the question - I have 3k+ games in ARAM. This is my favorite mode and my goal is to get mastery 5 on every champ, playing almost ARAM only. Currently acheived ~ 20 champs. All of the unwritten rules are based only from my experience. For everything else please check:

The SUMMONER'S CODE

_

Thank you for your time and see you on the bridge :)

_

Edit: added some context in one of the rules and added brand new one at the bottom

1) Example: Frost Fire Annie, Snow Day Singed, SSW Skins

2) Healed champions are debuffed for 35 seconds, causing subsequent Heal casts on them to be 50% less effective for that period

3) 55 per 10 seconds

Edit: thanks to everyone that add some comments and critics. I added a few things, maybe there are more, will recheck the comments tommorow.

  • For everybody that complains for the advice about AD Sona - please don't take it like 100% must be. It's very situational and it is viable. It was used only for the example.

  • For everybody that pointing the Snowball is must-have - I respect your opinion. Maybe my stile is different from yours. I am not so "yolo" type of person, that enjoy to be focused and oneshoted when I play marksmans.

  • For everybody that tells "don't take ARAM serious" - absolutely agree, but I don't take the game so serious... and yes - I don't play ranked.

  • There are a lot of good points for vision control, trading, farming etc. , but these are overall general rules for League of Legends and my point is to give some info specific for ARAM

  • I am sorry that I can't add you all, but I don't have very much time to play atm.

Double Standards in Champion Balance

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 11:54 AM PDT

I originally posted this to r/singedmains, but I also felt like this belonged here as well.

With a lot of people in an uproar about the upcoming hotfix to Singed, I think it is necessary in having a logical look at this instead of shouting in the hope of resolving issues. While I think most people are overreacting, even without any knowledge of any specific changes thus far, I do see where they are coming from. Singed was in in a horrid state for 2 seasons; from season 5 to pre-patch 7.14. People from the community have reached out to Riot giving criticism on the Singed's game state and asking for any possible feedback. We got nothing from them, in the form of something reasonable anyways. All we got were condescending tweets from members of the Riot balance team telling us Singed was overpowered (not true),he had undeniable engage (not true), and that we should be happy that they didn't nerf him(what). This coupled with changes to the game throughout the has made playing Singed harder, and overall, less enjoyable to play. This includes:

-Reliance on building certain items in every game just to be relevant and how unfun it felt to build them (3 dark seals, RG, tank/supp items, etc.) -Champion releases and reworks focusing on mobility (which in fine, until you don't update the first champion ever designed as a way counteract the new state of the game for several years now) -Nerf to ap items, which forced Singed away from an ap bruiser playstyle to a full tank / supp playstyle -I could go on.

To the many, including myself, it felt like we were left in the dark and neglected by the lack of communication and reasonable feedback from Riot. Many of us felt frustrated in how Singed was left behind in the dust as the game moved on without him. Then after almost 2 years, we finally got word from a Rioter that possible changes to Singed would happen in the near future. Lo and behold about 4 weeks ago, Singed changes on the PBE. We were ecstatic. Finally, we were getting changes to Singed; good ones as well! He was getting the modernization he had deserved for 2 years now. After about 4 weeks of PBE testing and not even a day after the release of patch 7.14, Riot Meddler tweets this out: https://twitter.com/RiotMeddler/status/885321824149528577.

This where this leaves us now. People are angry and outraged that not even after a day of patch 7.14, Riot is already thinking of hot fixing Singed. This has created a shitstorm in the forums, with only the logical criticism sprinkled in here and there. While I do think that a lot of people are just upset at the idea of the nerf itself, I believe this anger stems from a much bigger issue; double standards in champion balance.

As someone who has gotten to Masters in NA several times playing almost nothing but exclusively Singed, I believe to have a tiny bit of merit to how Singed and other champions function in high elo. With that, I can say that Singed was in a bad spot before the current patch. I can also say that Singed is currently in a really good spot as of now. Some argue that Singed is perhaps a little overtuned, which I agree with. I'm in the boat that his w is too strong and needs to be nerfed. Regarding his hp and ultimate cooldown, that is up to debate. However these possible changes are not what I'm upset at, it is the shocking double standards that Riot has displayed. Not even 24 HOURS after releasing the patch, they are already gonna hotfix him and nerf him. Their reasoning for this is his massive spike in winrate from about 48-50% winrate to now ~55%. Personally, this is due to an overtune to his kit and the fact that a majority of his small player base is extremely dedicated to him and went from having a ~48-50% winrate with a garbage fire of a champ to now actually playing something that is viable again. Besides that point, what I find ridiculous is how they are to jump the gun on this issue, especially when you compare this circumstance to others.

There have been champions that have been in worst states for far longer than Singed.Kassadin in season 3 was left untouched for months while having a 95% pick / ban rate. Fiora after her rework was unstoppable and only until recently has been balanced. Ivern had a +55% winrate in high elo for patch after patch and saw no noticeable nerfs until weeks, even months after his release. Even now, we have champions that have been issues for MONTHS and Riot has shown zero signs of doing anything about them!

Let's look at Thresh for example. Thresh has always been a possible choice for support since his release, and for the most part, has always been a strong choice as well. However, when you look at his numbers, they are ridiculous!

He has had a 52-53% winrate for as long as I can remember. This number remaining unchanging through different patches and meta changes. If his winrate isn't high enough, what is truly mind-boggling is his playrate: 23.79%! He is the most played champion while having an abnormally high winrate! That means that it doesn't matter who you are, a Thresh main or an autofilled support, he will be strong.

Another champ to look at is Pantheon: http://champion.gg/champion/Pantheon/Top?league= He has had one of the highest winrates at top lane for months now (53%-56%) while having a player base that is larger than Singed. He has an oppressive laning phase; any player can pick him up and abuse almost any matchup. Along with this, his early to mid game is incredibly strong.

These champion among others have shown that they are in a much worse state than Singed is currently for months now with little to no signs of resolving these issues. Why so quick on the Singed changes, but slow on changes for other champs, is up to debate. I have heard a variety of reasons; from competitive integrity (champs that are deemed fun to watch don't get nerfed so competitive is more enjoyable to watch; Singed isn't fun to watch), upsetting the larger player bases (think the Lee Sin PBE nerf outrage), negatively affecting their bot-line (don't nerf skin-sellers to keep selling skins, Singed isn't skin-seller, doesn't matter to Riot), etc. As to me personally, I don't know their reasoning for sure.

After years of no signs of any changes to Singed, he finally gets the modernization he deserved. After years of being left in the dark, our voices were finally heard. However now, many people are angry and scared that Singed will be put back in the dumpster and forgotten like before. While most people's, albeit extreme, outrage is justified, it is important for us to look at the important issues and realize that all champion, popular or not, should be held on the same pedestal and be treated equally. That is how you ensure and fair and balanced game.

If you want more added or believe everything I said to be wrong, please let me know! I want your perspective on this issue as well. Also, I will try to fix any possible grammar issues since I just wrote this up in one go. Thanks for reading :)

Edit: It seems like a lot of people either are misinterpreting what I say or perhaps I didn't specify enough. I agree that Singed needs a hotfix. His w is too strong as it is now. However, I'm disappointed that far too many people here are missing the point that I'm trying to make about double standards and how champs are treated differently. People are instead are making assumptions about me and think I'm here just to cry about the hotfix when all I want are other people's opinions regarding how some champs are treated compared to others.

TL;DR since a lot of people are misinterpreting what this post is about: All champs should be hotfixed and treated like how Singed currently is, not be left untouched for months even though they suffer from similar issues.

This or That: Rift Rival Surprise

Why has the classic LoL theme been completely forgotten / left behind?

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 12:02 AM PDT

So I many of you who have been with League for a while might remember this theme:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiOJW41s9dQ

Specifically the part that starts at 00:30, as far as I can remember the theme was present in ranked selection, it was played at the beginning of tournaments, used in trailers, etc etc. Last time I heard it was at Worlds 2014:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogOvT9oSp1c#t=01m45s

But ever since that day I have not heard it once ever again... it was replaced by another soundtrack in ranked as well and as far as I can tell it faded into nothingness. I wonder why?

Many games these days have their own theme music that you instantly associate it with once you hear it (Overwatch for example). Heck even real sports organizations like FIFA have had their own anthem for ages now, which is played at major tournaments. Even though they remix it now and then, the main tune is always there:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCMD22Ddm0w

Any ideas on why Riot might have written off their LoL anthem as of late? To be honest it was a pretty epic theme, and very very memorable.

Riot is doing an amazing job with the recent Champion Voice Overs, and they deserve to know

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 04:40 AM PDT

You may remember my previous post about voice overs, here is the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/66bcjc/epic_champion_interaction_voice_lines_are_rarely/

TLDR: Champions with taunt interactions often don't meet each other as lane opponents. For example, Yorick has a taunt against Azir which will be heard extremely rarely. The only times those champions meet are during ganks or in teamfights, moments you can't afford to spend time taunting in, instead of contributing to the fight. This is a shame because champion interactions tell you so much about the lore.

The newest champions, however, all say these interactions when killing or attacking the specific enemy, instead of taunting. This is a great change because you don't have to input a command manually to play the interaction. Urgot even has a ton of lines for killing specific champions with his ultimate. I am really happy Riot is going this way with the interactions, and I sincerely hope they keep doing this and eventually get rid of the champion specific taunts.

  • Meet the scene Immerse yourself in the NYC gaming community at our LANs: the friendliest and most inclusive gaming community. We will match you with others to make balance teams - no need to worry about who to play with.

  • Premium venue & catering: Hosted at Verizon HQ with Whole Foods & Red Bull catering included. Just check out our Virtual Tour of the space and photo album from the last LAN.

  • We match you with teammates You can come solo (75%+ of attendees do) or bring up to 2 friends onto a pre-made team. We will fill your team with other attendees such that all teams are as balanced as possible. We make it easy to bring the community together for some good times!

  • Seven hours of gaming to meet League players! The LAN event is seven hours from 10:30am start until 5:30pm!

  • New Sponsor - Haste Haste reduces lag, packet loss and jitter when gaming. They're debuting a 14-day free trial and I'd sincerely appreciate you checking them out if you want to support our LANs.

  • As is tradition, I will do my best to reply to any & every comment. So AMA!

How the LAN works

The LAN starts at 10:30AM on Saturday - its a Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) event - hosted at Verizon's HQ. Come with a squad of two or three - or come solo! We will be filling your team with other attendees to create balanced teams.

We're structuring it as a round robin tournament, but it is really about hanging out and meeting the Community!

You can sign up here.

FAQ

  • Are the Red Bulls to drink or just for the commercials? Yes.

  • What do I need to bring? Our event is BYOC, so we need you to bring your computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset or any other peripherals. We recommend you use a rolling suitcase. In the future, we would like to have spare PCs / monitors for use. We do not have any available for rent or use.

  • Is there a minimum age? No. All are welcome.

Want to set up your own events near you? Reach out to my email, below. I'll give you all the tips to set up an event - maybe we can even co-promote it next time to involve even more of this awesome community!

Volunteering

We're likely set on volunteers for this coming event, but we would like to set up weekly scrims / in-houses for the NYC scene. Please let me know if you want to help out with organizing our scrims or at a future event by reaching out to me at chris@fambase.com.

Sponsors & About the Ticket Price

** We don't want to be charging $30 per person and are working out a way to reduce the cost or gain sponsorship. Hopefully, we can get Verizon to lessen / reduce the venue fees or have other sponsors help fund these awesome events. The rent by itself is over $1,200, FYI.

For this event we are partnering with the following amazing NYC-based start-ups:

Riot really needs to provide to websites and API Users separate Stats for Flex Queue & Solo Queue. FlexQ is not SoloQ

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 06:23 AM PDT

Hi guys.

In every single website (op gg, lolskill, lolking), win rates, KDA and stats of any champion of any players take into account Flex and Solo Queue. I have nothing against Flex Queue or Solo Queue, but this is clearly not the same type of game. In Flex you might play up to 5 premades, while in SoloQ you play 1 or 2 vs the rest, this is not the same concept.

I believe a player that spams a champion in high Diamond in SoloQ, and another who played half of the games in Flex Q with premades (sometimes even matched against Silver/Gold), there is no sense comparing players anymore.

It would be only fair that the stats get separated. Thanks everyone and have a good day.

IDEA: 10-year anniversary skins for the original 40 champions

Posted: 12 Jul 2017 06:56 PM PDT

League of Legends is approaching its 10 year anniversary which will occur in 2019 and the community should celebrate it in a big way. It will probably be a huge patch but I think everyone would appreciate it. The skins should have a colour theme, kind of like how the SKT skins have a theme. Maybe even give Amumu a smile for once. Who agrees with my suggestions?

PBE needs to be available for more people!

Seeing that there are so many bugs coming into the live patch (Leona going through walls, Kayn not taking turret aggro etc.) I think it would be a good thing for Riot to re-open the applications for PBE accounts.
