| It took me 5 years to realize I was playing this game wrong. Posted: 14 Jul 2017 07:41 PM PDT My history with this game is sordid. I was extremely hyped about GW2 when it was announced, and followed it obsessively. I watched every video. I re-watched every video. I bought the collectors edition, and a standard one for my then-girlfriend-now-wife. I played like crazy at launch, hit max level (something I never do in MMOs)... And proceeded to slowly, disappointingly, come to completely hate it. The content was temporary. It was at a drip feed. I didn't particularly enjoy S1s story. ANet announced they weren't doing any more dungeons. WvW seemed like a broken mess. There was no viable path to a Legendary other than grinding out the gold that seemed to inflate too fast to even keep up. There was no traditional "end game". The only goal I could see in my head was to grind. I took to this subreddit and started in with the criticisms. Loud, angry criticisms. I threw my bone in with the lot that wasn't having fun anymore and really wanted ANet to know it. I stuck around, on and off, until they announced HoT and it launched. No new dungeons, what was described as an underwhelming amount of content... I was done. Until a few days ago. My wife's friend wanted a new MMO to play. She downloaded GW2, and I said why not, I'll re-download it and fire it up for a few runs of AC when she hit 30. Re-live some of the fun. What I didn't realize is that 2 years of never touching the game had changed my perspective completely. I didn't really care that I didn't have Ascended armor. Looking up the requirements for a Legendary again didn't give me that gut urge that I just had to get started right now... I realized I'd probably never get one, and that's fine because in the meantime I can just casually make progress towards it, if I wanted. And then it hit me: GW2 is a casual, laid back MMO, and is meant to be played as such. I can take an hour or two out of my day, if I want, and go play a dungeon run, or do a Silverwastes train, or go do a few world bosses, or...whatever I feel like. I get rewarded for it no matter what...Almost the same as when I was grinding out dungeons and the infamous Queensdale champ train (okay I won't lie that one was fun due to the community around it). You guys know there are achievements in this game? 'Cause I completely ignored them. Maybe the game changed a little while I was gone. Maybe I'm just older. Maybe it just finally clicked. Whatever it is... I'm genuinely sorry for hating on this game for so long. I was trying to play this game like a race; like getting to the end would provide some kind of catharsis and I'd "beat" it. People kept telling me there was so much to do, and I didn't see it because I was obsessed with the absolute long-term end goal just because others had already gotten there first. So... Yeah. I'm sorry for all my harsh words, ANet; community. It took me 5 years, but I finally understand the game you made and the game this community loves. I'm really glad there's still people playing, and I'm actually really happy to hear ANet is still making content. Thanks for sticking with it, even when people like me wrote it off as a failure. I uh...I'm gonna go play now. Bye. Edit: Anyone know of where some big open-world groups are at in the base game? Like, where are people hanging out nowadays? [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 14 Jul 2017 10:50 AM PDT Hey there, so I was trying to find a raid squad earlier (please don't downvote yet) and I came to the conclusion, like many other people before me have, that oftentimes during GW2 primetime, there are so many raid guilds/sellers spamming the LFG that you can barely make out the actual raid squads, and so I used my amazing artistic talents in paint to show you guys what I'm hoping would be an easy fix: http://imgur.com/pe6u22i
I realise some of the raid sellers etc, would keep posting in the actual raid squad LFG section, but even if a few of them moved to a different section, that would really help clean up the entire raid section of the LFG tool.
Gimme your criticism, my body is ready. (Just please don't hate on my drawing skills, I worked hard on this piece :c ) [link] [comments]
| I managed to make an ambient creature become hostile and attack me. Posted: 14 Jul 2017 02:15 AM PDT Level 1 Crab in Caledon Forest, on the beach near Mabon Market Waypoint: [&BDoBAAA=] It was able to attack me with multiple abilities, deal damage, and even critically strike - for as much as 4 damage! I'm not sure if anyone has discovered this yet; I found it surprising that they could even become hostile in the first place, let alone attack and deal damage! You can replicate this by attacking a neutral Hermit Crab that is near an ambient Crab. Attacking any neutral or hostile mob for the first time, if it's not already in combat, will trigger an AoE aggro pulse with a small radius, usually affecting mobs that are on the same team, or of the same species. In this case, attacking a neutral Hermit Crab near enough to an ambient Crab will cause the AoE aggro to affect the ambient Crab. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 14 Jul 2017 10:22 AM PDT The biggest example I can think of was the Dragonhunter's Longbow. The nerf to True Shot pulled it out of PVE while it only sort of fixed things in PVP. However, in a recent update, the cooldowns were split from 4 seconds in PVE (unchanged) and 6 seconds in PVE. With that, I figure that the 20% nerf to true shot from earlier could be reverted in at least PVE given the recent changes. It might at least put LB back on the radar of being more useful than being a token weapon. I'd be interested in hearing what other weapons could use some (positive) changes in other game modes with game mode splits. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 14 Jul 2017 08:17 PM PDT I don't think I've seen anyone run the numbers but would Force be better than Earth on Engineer for the meta condi build? It seems counter-intuitive but even condi engi has a rather high direct damage output so it's always bothered me that no one has talked about this before [link] [comments] | ||
| How long is Living World Season 3? Posted: 14 Jul 2017 08:13 PM PDT I just finished HoT, and now I'm starting the trek down these chapters. Just wondering how long it takes to finish them all? A couple hours each or is it like a day a chapter? [link] [comments] | ||
| Commanders of /r/GW2, can we have a discussion about courtesy? Posted: 13 Jul 2017 10:35 PM PDT EDIT2 : Suggestions from commanders:
EDIT: The title was supposed to be something closer to... "[Rant & Discussion]...", but i hit the save button on the big editor and reddit posted it... So I just commanded the TD meta, but this applies to any large meta (triple trouble, VB, AB, TD, DS, NESTLES)). We scraped a win together, but there were several other-commander-related things in our way:
Now, this sounds like a rant thread, and it is. I'm frustrated every night i come home and command, i have to deal with this mercurial "who belongs here/ who has the right?" to figure out if that other tag in the map is a HP run or a meta run. For those who do not know, currently every HoT map has enough player capacity for a STRONG group for their metas - and nothing else. This means somewhere in the 70-person range, maybe 90 for DS (i dunno what it is exactly, but that sounds right)... every night, there'll be some weird map stuff going on, to where a TD meta has maybe 30 people between the lanes and says it's full. On inspection, there's just a lot of people scrambling around. Usually there'll be a commander tag in some corner, idly... commanding. If an HP train is rolling around the map, then there's just not going to be a meta on that map. My general rule is, "whoever gets there first". If i pop in to a map for a meta, and pop the tag, and say in map, "Let's go kill us a gerent! Meta time!!!", then have the tag i didn't notice say "oi we were here first doing hp runs, fook. off.", i'll say "ok, sorry man. This map is yours, have fun!" I command these maps because every night new people and experienced people alike enjoy these metas. They're alive, and if there wasn't a single voice speaking with authority the experience would just be a giant pile of butts. Until Arenanet invests in NASA servers that can allow for four hundred player concurrence (that'd be awesome. AWESOME. Anet, if just for ONE WEEKEND, if you could bury your servers in nitrogen and let me command one of three full squads through DS... i'd do unspeakable things.), I want us commanders to work together to allow for the most players to have these fun experiences. I don't hate that first HP train for being there, or even the second HP train for kicking us out, or even that other meta for not responding. Okay, i was alittle frustrated at the second HP train... but those commanders were letting people have fun experiences. Because all those commanders were working, like 150 people had fun tonight. I don't know what i expect from this post. Just had to get a collection of things off my chest. What do you think? Am i in the right for being frustrated here? | Posted: 14 Jul 2017 05:07 PM PDT Does anyone think a trading guild would be viable in Guild Wars? I know it's big in ESO (Elder Scrolls Online), but didn't know if it would be possible to do in GW. [link] [comments]
