Acrylic Fan Art I made of the Fallout 1/2 Map

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 02:41 PM PDT

I'd always been a fan of the earlier games, and have been making some acrylic fan art these last few years, so I thought I'd give the classic map a go:

New Vegas is the only reason I know how to spell Caesar

Opinion: Interacting with furniture objects really should require an extended keypress.

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 12:54 PM PDT

I'm of the opinion that things like chairs, benches, anything that plays an extended animation for no good reason (and breaks stealth) should require you to hold down the button for a second, to trigger the interaction.

It's one thing to reach for that Rad-X in the toilet and accidentally take a swig, but it's a lot less funny to sneak up on a super mutant and then accidentally park your butt in a chair because you hit the action button when the reticle was ever-so-slightly in the wrong place. Why would anyone do that??

For example: Trying to sneakily reverse pickpocket a grenade and accidentally taking a seat instead. Or reaching for an ammo crate from behind cover and spontaneously deciding to climb onto a picnic table while a Yao Guai turns you into a snack. God forbid you try to pick up a single bottlecap from a bench.

You're screaming your obscenity of choice, spamming the GTFO button as the frustratingly slow "stand back up" animation plays and you probably die -- something that could easily be prevented with a context delay.

Sadly, I don't know enough about modding to make this kind of thing happen, but every time it occurs I wonder why, WHY, WHY.

I was bored again, and this time, I made my own Caps Stash!

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 11:29 AM PDT

Hi Reddit, you may remember my last post where I made a Nuka-Cola bottle out of an empty Fanta bottle. This time, I made my own Caps Stash, with step by step instructions how to make your own! https://imgur.com/gallery/P7YI7

If someone actually follows these steps, be sure to comment your version so I can admire it.

My complain about Old World Blues

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 09:31 AM PDT

I know I will probably get downvoted to hell since most of the people here seem to love it, but I honestly don't (so far). I bought F:NV 2 weeks ago and been binge playing it hard because I just fucking love this game. The unique factions, characters, choices and flexibility of the overall plot and quests are amazing and it's what makes the difference between this and FO4 (the other fallout game I've played)

I decided before jumping in the end of the game I'll do the DLCs first. Started with Honest Hearts and despite it being short and having little content, it had a nice little questline and one of my favourite characters. When I jumped on OWB, the whole idea being kidnapped by insane immortal scientists made everything so interesting.

But afterwards I got disappointed. Every quest was a fetch one. It followed the premise of:

1) Go to X place full of annoying enemies like Cazadors, Nightstalkers 2) Clear X 3) Fight robo scorpions on your way out 4) Fight robo scorpions after you exit X

It doesn't help that every enemy is a massive bullet sponge which basically forced me to switch from medium to heavy armor and tone the game down from hard to normal. It kinda feels all like a massive oblivion dungeon, with repetitive enemies and frustrating gameplay.

I know the least this sub needs is people whining about a 7 year old game, but I just wanted to know if I was the only one.

I see no change in the Brotherhood.

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 01:28 PM PDT

Alt title. Nastalgia is a hell of a drug.

So... yeah. Everyone is always on that Maxson's BoS is racist and nazis ect. I'm not seeing any change from Lyons BoS. I played fo4 first coming into fo3 late so the nastalgia isn't there that most would have.

  1. All BoS encounters exile or not your treated like and called an outsider. Granted you get slightly more positive responses in their fort after the story mission, but I put that down to lyons blessings upon you.

1A. Danse and Maxson's BoS are very welcoming of you and there are very few that treat you poorly and those that do have valid reasons. Yes, even knight Reyse has his valid reason wheather you believe it or not. Its just a missed opportunity that his dialogue never changes as you rise in rank and complete the game.

  1. Ghouls are treated all the same. BoS isn't actively hunting non ferals, but the ghouls of underworld repeatedly say they will get their heads shot off by the BoS at the Washington monument. This is the same for Maxson's BoS.

2A. I don't endorse killing non feral ghouls on sight and as far as I'm concerned killing feral ghouls is just mercy, the reasoning the Lyons BoS gives is heard early on when you first meet Sarah and the others in her group. "Another soul set free from their suffering" is said by the named Paladin putting down super mutants. This appears to be the same, though not overtly stated, policy of Maxon's BoS.

  1. Super mutant is on the menu. Lyons BoS seems to have no issue exterminating super mutants on par with Maxson's. I have yet to meet Fawks, and I suspect I'll like him vs the shit bag "Strong". From what I understand Lyons BoS make colorful comments about Fawks, much the same as Maxsons Bos.

3A. While Capt Kells wants you to kill whats his face in the glowing sea. Logically this makes sense. Why? Cause Lyons and by extension Maxson's BoS have been through a meat grinder with super mutants in DC. An abomination is an abomination when all you've known is war/fighting an enemy that wants to kill and eat you. The fact that he cured himself shakes Kells visually if you can convince him. Another missed opportunity honestly as he could have been brought into the fold... of fuck even a DLC themed around helping him de-super mutant-ing people.

  1. Maxson did destroy a large cache of technology, but it wasn't prewar tech. Granted the Prydwen is "new", but still prewar tech based. BoS has always had a hard on for pre war with only the non-cannon midwest BoS all about rebuilding and new tech like their advanced power armor. But would Lyons have had the room to make any diffrent a call? Keep in mind fighting the Enclave taught then hard lessons. People with better shit and bad intentions will shread them to pieces when given the time. And while we destroyed the institute, we do have a holotape filled with untold amounts of data on the institute.

4A. To shreads you say?! (In b4 anyone else)

  1. GNR. Lyons defends it yes, but in doing so three dog has nothing but glowing reviews of the brotherhood. The patrols make sense on a logistics level. They are low on everything after the exiles left... patrols mean scavaging for weapons, ammo, and food off raiders and super mutants they kill. Leaving the average joes alone in their settlements means trading, and friendly terms (made possible my three dogs show) means potentail recruiting to fill holes caused by the grinder of super mutants. What I'm saying is Lyons, while sympathetic to the wastelanders, could also be interpreted as using that sympathy to generate good will as well. Sure project purity is for everyone, but the BoS pretty much took it over completely as per doc li. (Man her bitchness never lowered from fo3 either. Next fo4 playthrough I'm blowing her brains out before I give my one finger salute to Father.)

So yeah. TLDR version. I see no difference between Lyons vs Maxson's BoS.

New Vaults and Vertibirds subreddit (Fallout TTRPG)

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 02:22 PM PDT

Some of you may remember the post I made a few weeks ago about a Fallout tabletop game (formerly called Dungeons and Deathclaws) We are currently working on the Monster Manual and realized we needed a place to notify people of new information without posting in r/fallout every time.

r/VnV is a subreddit dedicated to news, new book releases, user input, and player feedback for the game so please check us out if you have interest in the game or want to participate in any polls or discussions. Again thanks for all the support we have received in the past!

Where are the bow and arrows?

Posted: 02 Jul 2017 11:30 PM PDT

A game like Fallout, with such a vast landscape to hunt in, has no bow and arrow. It is one of the most basic designs for a weapon and has been used for centuries. Where did they go?

In Contrast To My Last Post About Cito, Does Anyone Else Think Zao and The Yangtze Was An Amazing Story?

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 02:42 PM PDT

Zao and the Yangtze really moved me, the voice actor IMO was spot on and showed so much solemn emotion that it really felt like a clash between worlds, Capitalism VS Communism. I didn't have it in my heart to kill him, even after dropping the bomb on Boston.

I really wish Zao and the Yangtze had more quests, I just could NOT get enough of him and his dialogue, it interested me greatly and in the end, I think Zao was one of the most interesting NPC's in the game for me.

People seem to forget that Zao and his crew were just doing what soldiers (Or in this case, mariners) were told to do, fight the enemy, and Zao seems like he resents the entire affair as evidenced by his sorrowful demeanor and the fact that he has lasted 200 years as a deformed former Human.

What does /r/fallout think?

Plasma pistol vs. defender vs. Q-35

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 12:44 PM PDT

I'm playing an EW run using JSawyer's mod so my carry weight is severely limited. With strong back, I have 125#. I'll eventually go for pack rat and/or burden to bear, but those will be much later in the game.

Weapon-wise, I just got (level 9) a fully modded laser rifle for general sniping and long range use. I'll probably put it away when I get the holorifle, which I'd then put away for the YCS. Up until this point I've just been using the plasma pistol (now fully modded) you get at the very beginning from the guy who wants you to "rescue his girlfriend". It's served me well, but I'm wondering if I should change it up. The way I see it:

Plasma Pistol +Fully modded, same damage per shot as Q-35 +Holdout weapon -lowest Rof out of VATS -highest AP cost

Plasma Defender +Scope for low/mid range sniping (easier to get head shots) +Best spread +Lowest weight (especially when/pack rat) +Best AP cost -lowest damage and crit chance -lowest health -expensive to mod as well as fix without jury rigging

Q-35 +Best ammo consumption (1/shot) +Best criticals +Makes commando a more valuable perk choice with other weapon being a rifle -uses same (heavier) ammo as other weapon (and you lose ammo on conversion, right?) -heaviest weapon (paired with another already heavy weapon)

Anyway, I'm looking for input. Any thoughts?

Nuka World Spoiler - What if a super mutant beat Colter?

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 08:36 AM PDT

Bit of a spoiler thread here, if you haven't played Nuka World don't read. But I came to having thinkings, you see super mutants run The Gauntlet pretty often, what if one had taken down Colter? Maybe not likely because Gage is the reason you win anyway, but even so what if Gage had tried multiple times to convince someone to use a squirt gun and the only one who believed him was a super mutant? Would anyone even have the balls to let the super mutant that beat Colter out of the Cola cars Arena? Discuss!

Does the Laser Rifle have the ability to fold?

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 03:08 AM PDT

Looking at the stock of the Laser Rifle, it looks like that it has the ability to pivot along and sort of fold up to conserve space. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/19/a9/08/19a90856aaff150a51f7e0d6f5861fdd.png

Should I buy Fallout 3 or New Vegas

Best Sniper in Fallout 4?

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 01:28 PM PDT

I'm looking for a really good sniper rifle. I've got Mister Sandman Perk (Additional damage with suppressor), Rifle Man Rank 5(Double Damage non auto rifle), Black Widow, and Ninja. Currently I use two snipers, Last Minute Modified Gauss Rifle, and Modified .50 Cal Hunting rifle.

Are there any better weapons than the one I'm using? Besides the legendary double shot gauss and double shot hunting rifle.

Mods worth it for Fallout 4 (PS4)?

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 10:48 AM PDT

Just bought Fallout 4 for PS4, and I read some time ago that using mods automatically disables trophies. Although I understand it, it's a total p**n the ass.

My question is, are mods really necessary to play the game properly (bug fixes, etc.) and worth it so I won't get any trophies, or maybe should I first beat it the 'vanilla' way and then enable some nice mods?

Favourite/Most memorable character in the Fallout series?

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 01:37 AM PDT

One of the reasons I love this series is because of its characters. A lot of them are very well written even compared to book or TV characters and are very memorable.

I have only played FO4 and New Vegas, so for me my favourites have to be Caesar, Joshua Graham and Paladin Danse.

What about yours?
