Theorycraft Thursday - Discuss Builds, Skills, Strategies, and More!

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 01:00 AM PDT

Welcome to Theorycraft Thursday, a community-building, regularly occurring thread in the subreddit!

MMO veterans will know that Theorycrafting is the core of many discussions about this genre of games, and ESO is no different.

With the high level of variance in builds, skills, and stats, there's plenty of room for Theorycrafting, and we want to see what you have to share with the community on that front.

Have a build you've experimented with? A particular skill or set of skills that synergize well? A strategy for PvE or PvP that works to great effect? Share it here!

If you're new, you can also use this thread to ask questions about viable builds and skills as well!

As always, please keep in mind our rules on the sidebar, especially the one about 'no personal attacks, callouts, rude behavior, or other such disrespectful content'.

Disagree respectfully and know that everyone has different ideas and playstyles that suit them.

ESO cash shop increasingly hard to defend with every patch

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 03:59 AM PDT

I am not here on a crusade against cash shops and i think up to this point ESO+ and it's cash shop were fairly priced.

Unfortunately ever since Homestead it seems things started to take a turn for the worse. Zenimax is removing more and more content from DLCs and charging us twice, first for the DLC and then additionally for content pulled from the DLC and put into the cash shop.

First we have a housing DLC with the best houses sold separately, for very large sums. Then Morrowind introduces many furnishings sold exclusively in the cash shop, going a step further.

Morrowind itself is sold as an expansion, not as a DLC, and I am fine with that. It introduces a lot, enough, in my opinion, to be an expansion. But again, a lot of the Morrowind content is moved into the cash shop despite the fact it could easily be part of the base game.

Lets have a look at what Morrowind brought us:

Morrowinds largest home is not sold as part of the expansion. A morag tong NPC, Naryu, is used to promote Morrowind and yet her costume/personality is sold exclusively in the cash shop alongside a plethora of unique dyes.

The Crown Crates introduce a very rare mount, in addition to the already rare mounts. Those mounts are clearly superior to the mount we get with Morrowind, that has horrible animations or perhaps simply a devastating hip deformation.

Not exclusive to the cash shop but Crafting research scrolls are introduced. While it's easier to get them ingame than through the cash shop, they are a tiny first step towards "Pay-to-Win".

Now with the Horns DLC Zenimax takes yet another step.

The previous DLC Shadows of the hist delivered 2 skins.

This DLC also delivers 2 skins but then we learn one of them is pulled from the DLC and moved into the cash shop, with the cash shop skin being the more popular one of the 2 skins. Instead, we get a hat. Zenimax tries to defend that decision saying this allows us to wear the skin and the hat but I've yet to find anyone that would agree with their reasoning.

Secondly, we learn Zenimax is taking another tiny step with the research scrolls, introducing 15 day research scrolls.

Source: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/359264/crown-store-15-day-research-scrolls-with-no-cooldown

tl;dr

With so many things progressively put in the Cash shop I shudder to think where we will end up after a few more major patches.

A thank you to two veteran players

Posted: 12 Jul 2017 09:04 AM PDT

Last week my wife and I Q'd up a random dungeon before heading to bed. We loaded into Darkshade Caverns II with two very high level players. My wife and I were both leveled somewhere in the 30's. We had done Darkshade I before, so we had somewhat of an idea of what to expect....or so we thought. It was going smoothly, with those two mostly carrying us through the dungeon, and with them even apologizing for using their PVP characters.

Then we got to the final boss. I don't know it's name, but it looks like a giant mechanical spider who spews gas at you. You have to hit four levers to turn off the gas or it basically kills you. We tried and tried and tried, but we continued to die.

Here's the awesome part. The other two players never once got upset with us for NOOB-ing it up. They instead took on more responsibility, gave us suggestions, and told us, "Don't worry. You'll get there". Eventually we had the healer responsible for two levers, my wife and I each responsible for one, and the other DPS attacking the boss. It wasn't working. Our healer gave my wife some high level food because she was getting killed pretty quickly and getting really frustrated. It wasn't enough. We couldn't do it.

Finally the our DPS says, "You guys beat the boss", and leaves the group. Shit. At this point we had committed over 2.5 hours into this boss and now we have no chance. What a waste of fucking time. I type into the chat, "He left", not knowing what else to say. Our healer replies, "No he didn't."

The DPS returns with a new character. All of us took our positions and activated the boss. We defeated him. Even though it took 3 hours to defeat this dungeon, largely because my wife and I didn't know what the hell we were doing, those guys were so kind to us the entire time.

Thank you to Iconic and Clark for being fucking awesome to a couple of scrubs. We will never forget you guys and will pay it forward when the time comes.

Cheers.

(I later read that a healer can heal you through the poison and make it a lot easier. I don't care. This post isn't about the game play. It's about two players being awesome.)

TL;DR - Two high level players helped my wife and I get through a tough dungeon and were super nice the entire time.

It only took me 1500 hours

I guess my career as a stealthy is over...

Actually, I really only want one thing

Posted: 12 Jul 2017 03:01 PM PDT

After several months of playing, it hit me over the weekend that there's really only one thing I would like to see: I'm calling it Kyne's Peace. And, basically, you take it and you get left alone.

There are times when a roguish quester just wants to stroll around, maybe do a little fishing, maybe do a little harvesting. And be able to do it without some damned alit or alligator biting his/her ass off, or some respawning daedric guard starting to attack you in the middle of unlocking a treasure chest.

So I'd really like a potion that I could take and just be left alone by everything for some period of time - maybe an hour? - where you can just wander the countryside and enjoy some Tamriellic peace and quiet while one fishes or looks for cotton or corn flowers.

Probably would have to have some limitations like no stealing or questing or whatever people might abuse.

Long time MMO player wanting to give ESO a try, questions inside

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 01:35 AM PDT

So im downloading ESO right now and been watching some videos on youtube trying to educate myself in how this game works! now i didn't understand much...

SO, here are my questions!

Say i enjoy playing a archer class, like hunter from WoW or Ranger from Gw2! is this possible in ESO and for PvP do i have defensive options aswell as offensive?

How do stats work, i know there are sets that gives bonuses but, is there raw stats like + strength, + agility etc.

How long should i expect the lvling process from lvl 1 - lvl 50 to be? Asking from a point where i have alot of spare time on my hands and playing games is mostly what i do

Does race's have any say in what build i want to make and how is the build variety currently (meta builds)?

How does the Guild system work and how hard is it to find players to play with? i'm talking long time "friends" as in all mmo's i have played i have always stuck with the same group of people for several years

and thats about it! any answer is appreciated :) EDIT: sorry for bad formating, literally got no idea on how to do it :v

Maw of lorkhaj on Normal

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 01:22 AM PDT

For those fairly more experienced players, how would you rate the difficulty of Maw of lorkhaj on normal for a lowish cp (164) magicka sorc dps? Or just in general really. I am beginning to farm for my endgame set pieces and need to prioritize my farms. Moondancer seems to be one of the more difficult to acquire set pieces of the build. Thank you all :)

Embarassing question (capture the flag)

Posted: 12 Jul 2017 11:20 PM PDT

So, I can't figure out how to put down the flag. Literally, I get a flag, run it back to my base, then I'm too dumb to figure out what to do with it and there is no tutorial. Help please! Thank you.

[Xbox] Why is the activity finder completely broken?

Posted: 12 Jul 2017 07:55 PM PDT

Even if all four people ready up, it says someone declined. I've been accepting queues for 30 minutes now and have yet to do a dungeon. Is this a known issue? Why is activity finder so hard to get right?

New player having a couple of questions

Posted: 12 Jul 2017 11:35 PM PDT

Hey guys I took the courage to ask cause I saw that ppl in eso and in this subreddit are really friendly in new players. A little back story. I tried eso from its beta but for some reason It kept me away.. then after so long I said to give it a try.. Truth be told I'm falling in love slowly with the game to the point I'm thinking to use eso plus. So now for the questions.. I made a small dpa research and I saw that mag sorc have all the package, they are great in pve and great in maelstrom arena. Then while exploring eso store I saw jester costume and I fall with the idea of having a stealthy NB dagger oriented char wearing jester costume. He comes from the shadows sinking his enemies dance and vanish to the shadows again. Muahahha. It's fun isn't it? And I think it's gonna be more fun that a simple magsorc but I don't know if it's viable for everything .. cause you know ... numbers.

Well I came here to ask cause work and a newborn baby burn most of my time but I'm pretty sure I will be able to focus in one char and do most of the staff tha the game has to offer.

P.s I'm really excited for 4vs4vs4 bgs (don't like imperial city thar much it's chaotic and too huge for my taste).

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

[PC] [NA] Daily dungeon finder quest bugging.

Posted: 12 Jul 2017 11:18 PM PDT

Does anyone else often not get credit for completing the dungeon finder daily? During the week a friend and I log on for one or two dungeons around 11 o'clock EST. Third day in a row he has gotten credit for the dungeon finder bonus and I haven't.

Stamsorc Dps question

Posted: 12 Jul 2017 09:00 PM PDT

Cp lvl is 227 using dual wield and bow My current armor sets are 5m-1H-1L. 5 pc spriggans and 5 pc viper using kraghs monster set(not the best sets i know but its what i currently have). My skills are whirling blades, rapid strikes (as my spammable), dark deal (resource management), critical surge(self heals and dmg buff) and bound aegis for some added defence. My ult is rend. My bow skills are acid spray (i use poison injection if there are less adds) hurricane, endless hail, and draining shot (to get some nice heals back and to stun enemy). i use either flawless breaker or the bow poison ult.

Where should i be putting my champion points to maximise my dps?

Beginner Nightblade Stamina Build

Posted: 12 Jul 2017 12:38 PM PDT

Hey guys after a huge hiatus me and a few friends have decided to come back and are loving the way the game feels at the moment! Just had a question though, I'm levelling a Khajit Nightblade and going stamina, what skills should I be levelling and what should my build look like (strictly for levelling 1-50). Any crafting I should be doing in particular, was looking at alchemy?

Thanks in advance!

Would the game have been better off balance-wise with a more traditional MMO class system?

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 12:55 AM PDT

A lot of complaining is about how imbalanced the classes and skill lines are, how OP destruction staves are compared to other weapons, etc. Would the game have been better off balance-wise if classes were made in the traditional MMO way? I.e where only Dragonknights could use Sword + Shield, and would be barred from using staves and bows, nightblades couldn't use heavy armour or staves, sorcereres would be limited to light armour + staves, etc? With limitations in place, there would be a pressure on devs to buff some of the weaker skills, since "d'uh just use a destro staff" wouldn't be an option for many players anymore.

General Build Strategy

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 04:23 AM PDT

If I want to make my own build (not use Deltias or Alcasts great but cookie-cutter builds), what do I need to think about? Is there a good checklist?

I'd like to check with you if you have any advice on links or tips or so on.
