Mages Guild Monday - Share Your ESO Knowledge, Ask Questions, Get Info If You're New!

Posted: 10 Jul 2017 01:00 AM PDT

Hey folks,

Welcome to Mages Guild Monday, a community-building, regularly occurring thread on the subreddit!

Mages Guild Monday is a thread aimed at sharing tips, tricks, knowledge and information about the game.

Know of a place that yields a particularly good reward? Got a tip about how to most efficiently accomplish quests? Have some good intel on good ways to serve your alliance in PvP? Let the community know!

In addition, if you're new to following the game, this thread is your chance to ask questions and get help from veteran players.

Please keep in mind the 'no personal attacks' rule in our sidebar, disagree respectfully with others, and know that a repeated or seemingly obvious bit of knowledge may not be obvious to everyone.

We look forward to your contributions!

Am I the only one who feels like DKs need more stam morphs?

Only having 2 seems like a little too little.

So... Are there any other players like they're just... Missing out?

Posted: 10 Jul 2017 01:08 AM PDT

I've recently been kinda looking around at how much stuff I've done in the game, and I do feel like I've accomplished so much. I've knocked out all the story content, all the public dungeons, and almost all the PvE stuff in Cyrodiil, but...

I'm not really that great at the game, and I feel like I don't play with enough really good people to do the things that I need to be good for. Veteran Dungeons scare me because I feel like without a perfect team and having everything down to a science, and totally minmaxing my character, it'll go to Hell. I play best as a casual player with a group of friends who I can just mess around with. I found out about Maelstrom, and I saw the kickass title you can get for beating flawlessly in Veteran, but there's no way I'm a good enough player to do something like that without dying.

And then there's Cyrodiil. I suck at PvP, and none of my friends want to play it at all. When I'm in giant groups getting into all-out brawls I actually have fun because I feel like I can get some points for it and try to progress my rank, but I can't even get other people to play with me. On top of that, I play late at night, so it's even harder.

Don't get me wrong, I love ESO. It's kept my attention much more than I thought it would, and I like doing things in it. But I feel like I'm missing out on so much content because I'm not a hardcore player or PvP God, or my group of friends is too small.

There's a lot of things I wish I could get. I'm a sucker for cool titles, so things like Flawless Conqueror or Grand Warlord-- Hell, General sounds pretty awesome on its own-- seem like they'd be really cool to have. I'd be overjoyed if I could be Emperor for just one day, because "Former Emperor" has a ring to it. And some of the PvP dyes are gorgeous, Legate Black and General's Gold seem so pretty but even if I grind every day I'd never get them because I suck at it so much.

I gotta be honest, I've even wished I could find somebody to just log into my account for a while and just... Grind out some of these things for me. Especially the Emperor thing. It's pathetic, I know, but if I could I'd probably straight-up pay somebody to do it because I physically can't.

So does anybody else feel like they're just... Kinda sad about stuff like this? Like you're just... Not quite good enough at the game to really get what you want, or do what you really want to do, or you don't have the means to do it?

Depressing topic I guess, but I'm just wondering how many people out there are like me.

Magicka Templar dps rotation?

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 09:11 PM PDT

I'm trying to learn how to play magplar dps but my dps numbers seem to be very low.

I have Grothdarr/BSW/IA-5pc with dual wield and a regular non Maelstrom staff. Armor is purple with mostly divine and gold sharpened weapons.

My build is very similar to https://alcasthq.com/eso-magicka-templar-build-pve/ except I can't afford spell power potions for training and don't have a helper so I replaced 2 skills with entropy for the spell damage bonus and apply elemental drain myself.

DPS is hovering around 18k which seems low as people with similar gear can get above 20k. I'm not sure why that is happening. For my rotation I try to keep up channeling focus, ele drain, blockade of fire, blazing spear, vampire's bain, entropy (generally in that priority) then fill in extra time with purifying light and spear or beam. With IA-5pc I also try to do a heavy attack now and then. This doesn't seem to be working very well as I mentioned. Is there a fixed rotation I can use to improve my results?

[Xbox]Stam sorcs, share your rotations with me?

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 09:01 PM PDT

I am trying to raise my DPS to get on my guild's core vet trial team for hard mode runs as well as be able to run vet Dragonstar Arena. I can hit around 23k without anyone buffing me or debuffing the target skeleton, if I manage a good flowing rotation. I am looking for input and suggestions from anyone if it'll help improve my numbers. Any and all constructive criticism is welcome so long as it will help me better myself as a DPS role within the guild. I am aiming for about 32k to 36k DPS as a goal if possible.

My normal rotation for Bow/DW usually consists of Hurricane, Crit Surge, Rearming Trap, Endless Hail, Poison Inject, bar swap, Blood Craze, heavy attack, Bloodthirst, heavy attack, Bloodthirst, heavy attack, Blood Craze, reapply hurricane when needed then bar swap and repeat. Sometimes I will often remove the heavy attacks altogether to use Bloodthirst 2 to 3 times so that I don't miss out on my DoTs, though it will often hurt my sustain and I'll be lacking stamina. I sometimes run two handed as well, so any rotations or suggestion for that are welcome as well.

My build, updated often and based off of Alcast's "Windwalker" stam sorc.

What do you guys think? Should I be using Caltrops in place of Evil Hunter/Dark Deal? Should I be weaving more heavy attacks, light attacks, or none at all into my rotation? I don't usually run the Dubious Camoran Throne drink because it leaves me with about 15,123 health and I feel that's a bad idea for survivability as far as trials go. Should I take some points out of Stamina and put them into Health or will it hurt my damage too much? My stam regen without it is at 837 and with it it's at 1357.

I have a tendency to chug trash stam pots when I run out of stamina, so any suggestions to help improve my overall sustain would be well appreciated. The student is looking to learn from masters and other students alike. Teach me what you know.

About to embark on the adventure that is ESO, do any of you have any "I wish i would've knowns" before i get started?

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 01:54 PM PDT

The beginning guide in the sidebar is full of awesome info and I'll definitely be using it. I'm a longtime FFXIV player as well as a massive ES fan so maybe I'll have a leg up out of the gate. But I would greatly appreciate and utilize any tips you guys have for a new player. See you out there.

EDIT: just wanted to say Holy shit! This community is amazing! Thank you so much for all the advice. My copy should be here Tuesday and you guys have made my hype explode through the roof!

Commiserate with me...

Posted: 10 Jul 2017 01:37 AM PDT

I rush home from work for my last evening of 5-day ESO+ goodness, gotta finish the Wrothgar questline tonight cause I get invested in storylines and I need closure, you know?

Go to log in and...... server maintenance.

Am I naive to have assumed that they wouldn't do server maintenance during a limited time event? :(

Are there any decent guides on playing a PvE Stamina Nightblade UP to level 50 rather than focusing on endgame?

Posted: 10 Jul 2017 12:59 AM PDT

I've looked at Deltia's and Alcast's stuff, and they're both helpful but they're meant for end game stuff. Deltia's video claims to be level 1-50 but it's not. He talks way too fast about things a new player wouldn't really know so I think that guide is geared towards people who understand the game really well and are starting a new character.

This is my first character and I'd like help with it. I chose Redguard for my race.

Thanks

Question about Inner Light (20% empower) and elemental drain

Posted: 10 Jul 2017 01:33 AM PDT

Do they not stack? I have tested on both pve and on my friend.
I hit the same dmg with power surge + inner light empower proc and power surge + inner light empower + elemental drain on enemy which is supposed to reduce their spell resistance.

so is there some kind of power buff cap or something?

When is worth to upgrade Gear?

Posted: 10 Jul 2017 04:07 AM PDT

Hi guys,

I just reached 160CP, it wasn't hard and it didn't take a lot of time...

I never crafted or upgraded any gear during my Exp-Phase, always used what I dropped and I always destroyed every Item at the Crafting Station for the Materials.

Know I'm farming/grinding the Equip that will become my final Gear, and I have a question...

If for example I need: "Boots of the Night Mother Embrace" and I need it Divines with the Stamina Enchantment and I drop exactly it but Green, is worth to spend materials to take it to Purple? Or should I try to farm it over and over to try to drop it Purple with again Divine/Stamina?

Imperial city questing - what gear do you use?

Posted: 09 Jul 2017 11:39 PM PDT

I am wondering what everyone finds the best method for running imperial city. What types of gear do you use pve or pvp sets. I want to do some questing in there but don't know if i should wear impenetrable gear or keep running my divines. I am a magica dragonknight

Noob question about dps numbers

Posted: 10 Jul 2017 03:22 AM PDT

Is there a standard timeframe or set amount of rotations people use when measuring their dps, and does it include either ultimate use or executes?

Like if someone says you need around 25k dps for x activity, I'm assuming that doesn't mean getting a target skeleton to 50%, popping elemental rage and jesus beaming it for 10secs.

Sorry for being nooby, just trying to get a fair assessment of where I'm at, thanks.
