Sticky the AI problem

Posted: 06 Jul 2017 08:51 AM PDT

Can't we sticky a post about the AI problems and the fact that only 1 guy (Maybe?) is working on it at Firaxis. This to reduce the amount of complain posts and bundle our experiences in one post? Giving information to new players experiencing the same?

[CIV 6] What is the best multiplayer mod combo?

Posted: 06 Jul 2017 06:32 PM PDT

What I mean, is there a few mods you use together to make the game more fun but still preserve the game itself so it doesn't crash all the time?

Currently I'm playing with a few city-states mods and a natural disaster mod.

I would sell my soul to the devil if we got Civ for the iPad

Posted: 06 Jul 2017 08:30 AM PDT

hi!

In case you aren't familiar with it, Apple's new iPads have their A10X ARM, that is surely faster than 90% of computers being used today, both on CPU performance and GPU performance.

Geekbench 4 was written for the ground up with these cross platform comparisons in mind, and as you can see the scores are absurd.

The new iPads also have fantastic displays unlike any other tablets, with a new feature that translates to being able to adapt the refresh rate from 1 FPS to 120 FPS as need, so animations are fantastic and there's no input lag whatsoever. It also has wide color gamut support, 600 nit brightness, etc.

Total War games with enhanced graphics (Rome total war 1 and expansions, etc.) are already being sold and ported to the iPad, and the newer models (A9X and A10X) cut through it without breaking a sweat.

However, I honestly believe that Civ, more than the Total War series, is the perfect game for these devices, since we can all agree that the UI would easily translate well to touch based inputs, with minor work.

These iPads seem to have the horsepower for Civ 5, but maybe playing it at their native resolution and lots of Civs is just not feasible yet. But older Civs like Civ 4, that we all love? They have all the needed performance!

What do you think? I'm just thinking about a 12.9" iPad Pro, with great battery life, that could go with me anywhere and be useful (notes, reading, editing docs, watching videos, etc.) and then be able to easily play Civ on train, bus, plane... Toilet. lol :)

Why is the Civ franchise so late to the iPad? We have GTA, Star Wars, Total War... I don't get it. More than any of those games, Civs UI seems such a natural fit. Then we have all of those cheap clones... (clash of clans, etc.)

It seems to me that unless we are comparing Civ 5 on a tower with the biggest possible map and number of Civs, connected to a 4k huge display, Civ 5 on the go on the iPad would be the best experience of all.

Civ 6 builder question

Posted: 06 Jul 2017 04:17 PM PDT

Sorry for the newb question (just played my first game of civ yesterday in the tutorial mode), but I'm a bit confused about builders. Suppose one of my cities (City A) is lacking in food resources and I have a builder made by City B. If the builder moves near City A and builds a farm, who does it belong to? Are tiles "owned" based on which city they are nearest or based on which city built them?

HELP! Looking for BNW ideology wallpaper.

Posted: 06 Jul 2017 05:51 PM PDT

Hey guys, I really find the splash art on the BNW ideology window very compelling: the image of three hands holding a hammer, a sword, and a torch against a red sky perfectly sums up the essence of the game for me. As such, I've been to great lengths looking for a good copy of the illustration but can't find any. The best one I came across so far is just a screenshot of the ideology window played on a big computer screen then cropped.

Any ideas where to find a collection of all the Civ 5 illustrations that contain it? Thanks in advance! (Note: As the title suggests, I simply want it for personal use as laptop wallpaper.)

Would you be interested in Civilization: Remasters?

Posted: 06 Jul 2017 05:59 PM PDT

I'm thinking mostly of the older 2-D games Civ I and II , maybe Civ III. I and II in particular are not easily accessible on Steam and are largely DOS games with ROMS available in the gray areas of the net.

After StarCraft Remastered I feel like Civ 1 and 2 remastered would have been a great idea. The 25th anniversary last year would have been a perfect time to release them as bonus for Civ6 special editions, but we didn't get it.

Next best thing is $15-20 Steam download released sometime in the near future.

What I'd like to see personally

  • new HD tilesets
  • ability to toggle back and forth between old and new graphics
  • no major changes to AI or mechanics
  • Old advisor videos in Civ2 stays. And bonus points if they shoot new ones in HD

Thoughts?

Sullla has published a new write-up on the first Realms Beyond Civ 6 PBEM game

Posted: 06 Jul 2017 11:56 AM PDT

http://www.sullla.com/Civ6/PBEM1-1.html

Long time Civ fans will probably be familiar with Sullla, he's been a prominent (and sometimes polarizing cough-Civ5-cough) voice in the community since the early 2000s and even assisted in the development of Civ 4.

His most famous contributions to the Civ community however are probably his write-ups for two of the most infamous games of Civ 4 ever played; The Apolyton Demogame and Realms Beyond Pitboss #2. If the prospect of reading about a game of Civ sounds boring to you, you could not be more wrong. These two reports read like gripping, action-packed novels.

After largely skipping over Civ 5, Sullla seems fully invested in 6 and this nine-paged behemoth of a write-up is testament to that. Enjoy!

Civ 5 Domination help

Posted: 06 Jul 2017 08:36 AM PDT

I play on Emperor (6) and the game is pretty easy for every victory except Domination. I can get ahead pretty early by killing a neighbor or two, but eventually the whole world hates me, denounces me, declares war on me, and kills me, in that order. Frequently somewhere in there I end up with tons of unhappiness and revolts that make defending my borders even more difficult. Are there any tips or even just basic concepts that I'm doing wrong?

edit: spelling

Civ 5 won't open/crashes all the time

Posted: 06 Jul 2017 04:11 PM PDT

I can only open civ 5 in win 8 mode, but it keeps crashing all the time. When I try to run it in directX 9/10/11 it only relaunches the launcher and nothing happens. I've tried verifying game cache, resintalling and changing compabilty mode, but nothing works. Has anyone had the same problem?

Fastest Science & Culture Victory?

Posted: 06 Jul 2017 12:19 PM PDT

My fastest Science victory was with Poland by 1875 but I know I can get there faster.

I was wondering what is the fastest science or culture victory you have ever had, by what year and with what civ.

Enjoying Civilization VI so far... And some questions

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 10:22 PM PDT

I should mention that Civ VI is my FIRST Civ game I've ever played. Some of my coworkers recommended it and I bought it a few months back. But only recently started playing. At first I wasn't that enthused, due to the slow start (used to Total War) but boy did it pay off! Researching the tech and upgrading my tiles and what not really paid off for me. After that I've completely fallen in love with the series. I'm practically doing something every turn now it's incredible fun. The process of actually seeing your primitive civilization grow before your eyes is just amazing. I don't know why I didn't pick up thia series a lot earlier. Lol

I am aware that Civ VI does have some bugs. The AI has been kind of dumb when interacting with me. For example, Peter of Russia sent a delegation to my capital and also expressed that we are good friends. And than suddenly, and for no reason I can think of, sent me an insult. It's also a pain with the lack of hotkeys but I can manage.

Overall, I've really enjoyed the game. Some have said previous iterations are better, and I'd be willing to try them out too! What would you recommend?

Also any decent mods out there?

[CIV 6] Being denounced as a warmonger doesn't feel justified sometimes - thoughts?

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 11:26 PM PDT

TL;DR: Playing as India, Saladin forward settled me (he gave me this city in the peace deal that HE offered), declares war on me, and would not peace out, but I'm the warmonger?

So earlier tonight I was playing a religious playthrough with India as my Civ.

I went into it with emphasis on not declaring war and focus on my religion above all.

Arabia settled right on top of my capital, literally couldn't have been closer... no problem, I'm the peaceful Gandhi and we have declared our friendship with Arabia anyway. No big deal.

Eventually, Arabia declared war on me, which I assumed would happen eventually thanks to where they settled and my religious dominance on the continent.

My government is a theocracy so I bought several troops with faith (I had saved it up because I saw that Saladin was lining his troops up along my border.)

I was also the suzerain of several city-states. I squashed Saladin's forces. After I took out his initial (and only) wave of attack, I took the city that was literally on top of my capital with the intention to give it back.

Every turn I tried to make peace, not even wanting to take another city or keep the one I conquered.

Eventually, he offered me a peace deal and CEDED his city to me.

2 turns later I'm denounced as a warmonger when he gave me his city in the peace deal we agreed upon!

I get that taking a city is warmongerish, but:

  • the war was declared on me

  • I didn't even have troops to fight the war until I bought them with faith

  • the Arabian city was settled on top of my capital

  • I tried to peace out early on before any city was taken

How am I the bad guy in that situation? Is it not reasonable that I would want to take a city that was literally on top of my capital which was previously owned by the Civ that had just declared war on me?

I'm not angry, this is all for the sake of discussion. Hopefully I convey the proper tone in this!
