I have lady of the reeds and marshes, it seems really stupid to tell me this natural wonder passes as a marsh when it doesn't synergise with the pantheon. Any mods to fix? :)

My thoughts on Civ 6 nine months after release

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 10:27 AM PDT

I want to start off by saying that, as with a lot of commentary, some of the aspects I discuss may be subjective, and a lot of this is just my opinion supported by observation after playing the game over the course of its first 9 months. I want to try to give a bit more thoughtful analysis than "Civ 6 is a waste of money, stick to Civ V with expansions" or "Civ 6 is the best strategy game of all time". I'll just discuss the major things that have caught my eye regarding the gameplay of Civ 6 in no particular order

  1. Districts

When I first heard about districts while still playing 5, I was intrigued but not sold. I thought the idea of spreading out cities was interesting, but was extremely curious as to how it would be implemented. The good aspects, regarding districts, is that they add a system of "domestic management" if you will. The idea that I can be more efficient than another Civ based purely on my ability to plan my cities was one, I was, and still am in support of. However, the chief incentive to properly plan districts is adjacency bonuses. (Excluding Encampments and Aqueducts) These flat rate bonuses are useful, but certainly not game changing. This is where my criticism of districts begins. For my thoughtful analysis of where to place my districts, I am rewarded with a flat rate reward. Policies can increase this, but the bigger point here, with districts, is that quantity is always best unfortunately. The best strategy that seems to work regarding districts is to spam cities and put a district in each city. This often boils down to me finding the most convenient place to place a district at the time of placement, because the mere presence of many districts outweighs the well thought out placement of a few districts. Almost of my deity wins (with 6 or more civs in the game) have been science, with around 12 cities or more, each with a campus district in them. As soon as I discover education, I spam universities in all of them. I beeline the enlightenment civic and as enact rationalism as soon as I can. This whole theme of spamming districts and cities leads to the bigger theme of:

  1. Balance

Don't get me wrong. I love be an imperialist asshole just as much as the next guy. But at higher difficulties, it is nearly required to stay viable. I can't just be content with 6, well planned, well defended, cities. I either need enough land to spam cities without pissing off the AI, or to conquer the AI. Bashing the AI is a very easy thing to do,(I'm as guilty as anybody) and it is warranted to an extent. But the AI can put a fight at higher difficulties. The AI is irrational, foolish, and frustrating at times, but to say it is easy to always defeat the AI on Deity, is not true. Anyways, the lack of being able to play tall at higher difficulties sucks, but it is by no means game-breaking. There's enjoyment to conquering the world and spamming districts without care for there placement. There's enjoyment to winning on deity. It just feels shallow at times. It's what causes my mid to late game burnout. I don't feel invested in my civilization, because I have 20 cities, 10 of which I didn't found, and 15 of which will have no use to me, because there not near hills which means they won't be productive enough to majorly contribute anything beyond there district outputs. I'm sure with time and expansions they'll reintroduce the viability of other play styles at higher difficulties. Maybe through the limit of the amount of districts along with a percentage bonus for adjacency rather than a flat rate. But for right now, expect the empire with more cities, and more districts to win.

Overall

Civ 6 is still a great game. The early game is incredibly engaging. I have had incredibly fun battles in multiplayer and single player. And it does capture that "one more turn" feeling with the same power of previous civs. I know I gave some criticism to it, but I feel that's what most people would want to know about before buying the game. With all that said, Civ 6 is worth the money. IMO, most everybody who has reasonable expectations will enjoy it. I will credit the devs for adding new features, and making the game feel new. So many other developers might have just re-skinned Civ 5, added some gimmicky features and stole your money with some virtual currency or multiplayer BS. (NBA 2k series, the sims 4, Simcity, Just to name a few). Civ has some good devs, a thriving community, and tons of great content, so I'd recommend anyone who is a strategy game fan to pick it up on the steam store, and enjoy a great game.

Edit: typos.

Idea: Get rid of Catherine's constant whining and complaining about your lack of espionage when no other civilization but her has a spy.

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 10:49 AM PDT

Because she has that stupid starting spy thing, so as soon as she gets one she starts mocking you non stop for not having any spies, on like turn 50. Idea, make it so she doesn't start doing that until at least one other civilization but her has a spy at all.

Small Religion Tip Civ 6

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 12:32 PM PDT

Getting missionary spammed by someone? Tired of some fighting off the same religion that's messing up your victory? Boy do I have a tip for you.

Most people who play religious quite often probably know of this, but I only play religion every once in awhile to shake things up. When you get an apostle with the upgrade proselytizer take that bad boy to your enemy's holy cities (possibly with an escort in case of religious combat). When you spread in their city it will wipe out all other religions in that city. No more missionary spam from that city, you just cut them off. Only use the proselytizer once per city so you can kill their religion in multiple cities. You can guarantee getting the proselytizer promotion by being suzerain of the Yerevan city state.

I'm sure many know this small tip, but just in case here ya go, and if you have any other good religion tips let me know!

Does Civ 5 still have an active multiplayer base?

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 08:14 PM PDT

I picked up Civ 6 a few months ago, and while I like a lot of the changes they've made with the game, I'm not enjoying myself nearly as much as I did in 5. Currently re-downloading 5 now, wondering if the multiplayer is still fairly active?

Question: Read Description

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 06:11 PM PDT

So I've been watching some civ 6 youtubers, and something I noticed was that they always had AI only battles where it said autoplay active. I went to see if that's what spectator testing mad was but that wasn't so I is confused

[VI] Unable to end turn with production queue mod

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 04:49 PM PDT

Playing a multiplayer game with the production queue mod and a few others. No issues with any of it until I discover niter. Seville had a Theatre Square queued up to build on the niter tile, and when it completed the reached the Theatre Square in the queue, it couldn't build it. I can't advance to the next turn without changing Seville's production, but I also can't open the production menu for the city. Clicking the button (or either of the two purchase buttons) highlights it as if it has been pressed, but does nothing else. The production menu for every other city is working, but opening it there and then selecting Seville just leaves me with an unresponsive version of the other city's menu.

Anyone got any experience or suggestions for fixing this?

Economic victory for Civ 6

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 04:11 PM PDT

An economic victory should be achievable by having a central bank owned by you in every capital in the match. This should be an option in the diplomatic menu; leaders would only allow this if they are your ally, you make a VERY favorable trade with them (example would be 50 gold per turn with luxury items in exchange for being able to construct a central bank) and finally if they are your enemy, you will be given the option to build a central bank after defeating them in war. Central banks provide gold for the city owner and you (city owner receives much more gold than you) and greatly improves your relationship with that civ. Different governments are a big factor with democratic civs being much more likely to let you construct a central bank. Just an idea goys let me know what you think.

More Civ VI content?

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 09:53 AM PDT

Hey guys I've stopped following Civ 6 updates a few months back and I'm starting to get interested in the game again, I was wondering if any big expansions like BNW and G&K have been announced?

Any new civs planned? More leaders? Anything?

Civ 6 ai too hard?

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 08:19 AM PDT

I just got civ 6 so I am playing on settler. Turn 40, online speed, England (I always play as my country of birth when I get a new civ game). I look over to the scoreboard. I see that France has 12 times the military as me, 5 cities compared to my 2, 3 wonders compared to my 1 and 2 techs a head of me. Is this realistic for how far I should be at this time or is it broken? I have also seen Barbarossa get to the medieval age at 1000BC. Plz don't tell me to git gud I just got the game and want actual advice.
