Weekly Role Discussion Thread: Offense - June 03, 2017

Posted: 02 Jun 2017 10:07 PM PDT

In this weekly thread you can discuss the Offense roles of Overwatch to your heart's delight. What are the characteristics of those heroes?

The main objective of the offense role is to scout the area, harass the opposing team, and press the objective. Heroes classified as offense generally have high damage weapons and abilities and lower health pools than tanks and some defense heroes. They are usually excellent duelists with high mobility and good burst or sustained damage.

Overwatch Wikia

You can find a list of the current offensive heroes on the Overwatch Hero Overview.

Share guides and strategies that are valuable to an offensive Overwatch Hero or other tips and tricks that helped you to get better. You can also propose ideas why a certain hero is bad in your eyes and how to make it better. Please do so in a constructive way!

How to run away from Roadhog

One of the top 500 players on PS4 is a well known hacker and Blizzard doesn't give a damn about it.

Posted: 03 Jun 2017 05:24 AM PDT

I can't mention his name because it would count as witch hunting but he's a hacker who DDoS attacks his opponents and then wins the game by holding their connection down, so they are unable to rejoin to the match. He is able to do this because the PS4 system has a bug: if someone joins to your party (voice chat) you are able to get his IP. So basically at the beginning of the match he creates a party, invites all six enemy players, and if one of them accepts the invite, nukes his connection.

After finishing the last season on 4200, his placement matches in season 5 put him to 2800, and I got to experience a match against him last night: http://imgur.com/a/IVHlg

I have lots of proof I can't post here because of the witch hunting rule, on /r/OwConsole we have posts about him almost weekly. There's video proof of him on youtube:

  • threatening his teammates who decided to throw the game because they didn't want to support a hacker (everyone knows his name in grandmaster for doing this, he is like an infamous celebrity), telling them that he's going to hack their account and expose their IP's on his website

  • in another match, bragging about his hack on voice chat, saying that all enemy players accepted his party invites, and asking his teammates which enemy hero he should disconnect (a minute later he disconnects 4 enemy players).

  • countless videos from different uploaders, where he DDoS attacks the enemy and makes at least one of their players leave

And the best part: he was never banned. Not even once, he is still playing with his main account. He is doing this since march, every single day, and he hasn't received any punishment. On console we don't have a report system in Overwatch, and Sony tells us that we should contact Blizzard about it.

Blizzard, what can we do about him? Me and other players sent e-mails about him, there are countless videos of him on youtube, yet, there was no action taken, and none of us got a reply to the e-mails. Cute junkrat plushies and memes get official Blizzard responses every day, but the hackers are completely ignored? Where should we report him? What should we do? Please tell me because I'm legit clueless at this point.

Our team had 4+ hours of delays and technical issues in the OW Contenders qualifier today, we were then offered a bye and a "path of lower resistance" in tomorrow's qualifier to avoid a "competitively unfair" scenario.

Posted: 03 Jun 2017 04:06 PM PDT

Scroll to the end of the post for a TLDR.

I have included a timeline of events with screenshots as proof. I have removed all of the names and sensitive information from all of the screenshots in order to protect the identity of the individuals and admins that were involved in the situation. This is not the fault of any admin or individual in specific, it's more an issue with how the event was handled on a larger scale.

The day before the tournament: Our team finalizes our roster for the event, and I check us in for the event.

11:00 - 11:15~ AM: Approximately an hour before the listed start time for the tournament, I get on TeamSpeak with our team and complete the check-in (clicking a button). At around this point, the website begins have significant issues.

12:00 PM: The official start time of the tournament, the website at this point goes completely down, giving a 404 error, occasionally a 523 error. For about the next hour or so, the website is completely down, asides from the website very briefing going back up at one point. Which is what the first part of this discussion here is about.

1:20~ PM: I'm finally able to load the webpage and log in to see my team's dashboard. At which point I see this. At this point, I realize that I have an issue and began to try and reach out to the support staff in the chat. 1 and 2

1:29 PM: I receive a reply from the first admin that I talk to and proceed to DM him to clarify the issue. After that last message at 1:38, I never heard back from him.

1:33 PM: I message a 2nd admin to see if they can assist me, and they tell me to ask someone else.

1:53 PM: I make another large post in the support chat, trying to be as clear as possible, and including a screenshot. An admin asks me to message him, and I do. (Also receive an interesting reply from another team admin at the end of this screenshot, seemingly in the same situation, not sure what ended up happening with them, possibly worth looking into.)

1:54 PM: This admin quickly refers me to a different admin.

1:54 - 4:14 PM: I then had a conversation lasting over two hours with this new admin. At various times the admin is unresponsive for 20+ minutes. If you don't want to read the entire thing as it is quite lengthy and this post is already pretty long, here are the important parts: 1 and 2

I was tired of dealing with this at this point, my teammates were uninterested and frustrated, so I didn't think much of what they had said right away. I went to my teammates and explained the scenario and realized that there was much bigger issue than the obvious blatant technical issues for this tournament.

1. Attempting to prevent a "competitively unfair" scenario by giving our team a bye and a "path of lower resistence" in tomorrow's qualifier" Screenshot

After reading back over my conversations with this admin, and taking a step back to look over it outside of personal bias, this approach seems incredibly hypocritical to me. In my opinion, this is a big competitive integrity issue for a tournament that is intended to be the "Season Zero" of the Overwatch League; that is worth dozens of millions of dollars for franchised slots in the league. I realize that our team is not going to win the qualifier, but it's about the principal of the issue, the fact that they are willing to compromise the integrity of the second qualifier to try and fix how poorly the technical issues were handled during the first qualifier.

In addition, there was another team at the very least with a similar issue as noted in this screenshot, and I anecdotally remember seeing at least one other team captain posting a similar issue in the support channel. If the admin thinks that I am the only case, then the issue was poorly handled enough so that the other teams simply gave up and didn't want to sit and talk to admins for 4+ hours trying to resolve their issues.

There were also many teams that did not understand the map pick process due to the website being down almost entirely for the start of the tournament, and many matches had to be replayed, another example of communication issues with the tournament.

Whole album of screenshots (I tried to do my best to keep them in chronological order, but they are a bit over the place)

TLDR

  • Team registered and checked in on time.

  • Persistent issues with the website, 2nd check-in didn't register.

  • One hour delay to the start of the event.

  • Support contact attempts are relatively unsuccessful for another hour.

  • 2+ hour conversation with an admin who tells me it's "competitively unfair to seed you in", but that, "we'll be seeding you a bye tomorrow for sure", "We will specially place you tomorrow", and "We can also give you a path of lower resistance".

I contacted the /r/Overwatch modmail and did not receive a reply, so please let me know if anything breaks the subreddit rules, I do not believe that it does.
