Hello members of the /r/hearthstone community,

This is part of a series of weekly threads aimed at both new and old players from the community. It is designed so that everybody may ask any and all questions regarding the game's mechanics, decks, strategies and more.

Please keep it clean and try to add more than just a one or two word response. As the goal of this post is to increase the community's knowledge, the thought process matters as much as the answer! There is also a Theorycrafting Thursday weekly post, for those who wish to discuss some of the more intricate aspects of the game.

Sticky Threads and Guides - Great resources for new players!

Meeting a future world champion in arena

Posted: 13 Jun 2017 03:50 AM PDT

TIL Brann + Noggenfogger + Alexstrasza can set both player's life total to 15.

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 10:07 PM PDT

The doubled battlecry from [[Brann]] + [[Alexstrasza]] can be redirected to two different characters by [[Mayor Noggenfogger]]

Headphone users beware!

I wonder if this means cabal shadow priest could take two creatures?

edit: both players' life totals*. I am ashamed

Would it be fun if Blizzard released the occasional bundle of new cards between expansions?

Posted: 13 Jun 2017 03:43 AM PDT

This is something I've been thinking of. Imagine how neat it would've been if, say, on Valentine's day, we'd have gotten some kind of tweaked version of Romulo and Julianne from ONiK as two new cards? Not for free, necessarily, but as just like two new craftable cards (maybe for the price of one, since they're a pair).

I feel like little one-off cards or small card bundles like that could really help spice up the meta between expansions. Am I missing some reason why this would secretly be an awful idea? Obviously, Blizzard might not wanna do it for other reasons, but I'm just curious what people think! :)

Why doesn't Hearthstone have a first win of the day bonus?

Posted: 13 Jun 2017 07:48 AM PDT

Overwatch has one, wow basically has one with dailies, seems like the model would fit Hearthstone well. Maybe like 50 gold or something for your first win every day. Idk seems like an obvious thing to do.

Dr. Anduin or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the C'thun

Posted: 13 Jun 2017 06:13 AM PDT

It started like any other game. Two meme-lords trying to fight the good fight in Casual; farming gold and kicking' shit. I was playing Quest, Kazakis, Raza, Medivh, N'zoth Priest (a typical deck) and they were playing Pirate, C'thun, thief Rogue. They managed to win the early game then I got a lucky Dragon Fire Potion drop to clear the board, then they took back tempo and I took it back again. It went on like this for a while, neither of us giving the other too much space to breathe.

We were both down to the last few cards in our decks. They managed to steal a bunch of my class cards throughout the game and I had used Thought Steal twice (thanks to Shadow Visions), so we both had no idea what each other were holding, but I KNEW he had a 23 attack C'thun and he KNEW I had a Mind Control.

The board was clear. I was at 40 health and he was at 18 health. His turn. Suddenly C'thun comes roaring down, pummeling me in the face as hard as it could. I think, now's my chance, so I Mind Controlled his C'thun, waiting to see what he would do next. Out of NOWHERE he Mind Controls it back! But I still have some stolen goods up my sleeve. Out comes my shiny new BLADE OF C'THUN, CHOMP! His C'thun is no more and the board is mine.

And what's that? The stolen C'thun in my hand goes from 6 attack to 23 attack in the blink of an eye. The Rogue solemnly slaps on a stolen binding heal to get his health up to 23, but for him, it's just more salt to rub into the wound. It's over. I drop my C'thun down for a roaring victory.

Well Played.

I still can't stop smiling. What a game!

500 wins with all classes

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 12:10 PM PDT

None of my real life friends care about Hearthstone, and none of my battle.net friends are online, so I've got nobody else to tell.

I just hit 500 wins with all 9 classes. Warlock was the last one, and of course it has been extra tough due to the general crapitude of Warlock since Un'goro dropped. Luckily I found a decent midrange N'zoth list that works well in Wild and I finally closed the gap today.

Just wanted to share. That is all. Thanks for reading!

Actually hit the jade cap in a serious ranked game(rank 3)

Posted: 13 Jun 2017 01:23 AM PDT

http://imgur.com/a/l4ksH

It happened that I already spent all of my armor gain, putting me over 40 life on a filled board for me vs empty board from him. Opponent, seeing it made no sense to fight for board anymore, managed to get frost novas from rng, along with blocks, stopped lethal from my side and made him miss lethal in the end by just a little.

As the board that was froze had fandral/auctioneer, i ramped up the jades quite a bit. Had never seen the last artwork for jades in a game I was in.

Next Expansion Prediction - Cards that don't see play today will have powerful synergies

Posted: 13 Jun 2017 09:01 AM PDT

Remember purify? Now it's playable in silence priest.

Vilefin Inquisitor? Now it's a staple in Murloc Paladin.

Gadgetzan Ferryman? A must have in Quest Rogue

I'm sure there are many others but the point is it's hard to predict future cards/direction because Blizzard can make previously unplayable cards playable.

So based on that - what are some of the terrible cards in this expansion that might one day see play? What are your thoughts?

  • Obsidian Shard and Envenom Weapon might be pointing to more weapons for Rogue in the future.

  • Spirit Echo might point to a more deathrattle focus for Shaman along with the likes of White Eyes.

Stats for all Hearthstone cards

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 09:37 PM PDT

I got bored and decided to create a report about Hearthstone cards (also first post ever!). You can see different snapshots from the report in this album.

Let me know what you guys think and I can create more of this stuff if you are all interested!

Edit: Wow wasn't expecting so much response.

Let me address some concerns people have below

  • Yes, my health visual is messed up and pointing to attack (copy-pasta 1 - statsarelife 0)

  • Not showing sets in chronological order is my pet peeve with this report too, but unfortunately the tool I am using only allows me to sort things either alphabetically or by Y-axis value. Maybe I can add numbers in front of the names to get it to sort properly.

Edit2: Improved with all the suggestions

BLIZZARD! Have You Done Something Secretly to Arena Mode? (Proof Inside)

Posted: 13 Jun 2017 01:29 AM PDT

It's a trending post in CN hearthstone community.

In the past 2 weeks, warrior has had a dramatically increased win rate from 32.2% to 35.8%, which led us to nothing but a reasonable speculation that something has been changed by blizzard in the background.

As follows as well as the title link is arena statics from CN server, provided by geyuan6@NGA, data collected from Hearthstone Assistant, an 'official' assistant software released by NetEase, Bllizzrd's distributor in China.

http://imgur.com/a/6ls5Z (Upper graph stands for win rates. Lower for % of each class' occurrence.)

Here's the original post(translated some CN meme to reddit meme):

Once I was young. I believed it was just a meme.

Unlike those small indie companies, or those shady F2P game runners, our beloved blizzard would never do sneaky things w/o telling us.

But! Holy shit it's happening! Cause this win rate bump cannot be explained otherwise. This kind of slope rate could only be caused by huge environmental change, like new expansions. Such that we have to speculate some significant changes have been made to warrior's draft algorithm in arena mode.

If that's true, are there other things could be changing by blizzard from time to time?

How to cope with that? Follow our weekly report and try some warrior in arena!

http://bbs.nga.cn/read.php?tid=11815006&_ff=422

edit 1:
A small percentage of ppl choose warrior does not mean a small sample size being considered here, we are talking about more than 10,000,000 arena games being collected per week here and 1.6% of them are HUGE amount of data points. If possible, I am more than happy to see hsreply's data and really wondering if theirs supports or contradicts this one.

It should have been a huge buff and win rate would go much higher after 'good' players realized warrior's viable again and start picking him.

IMO, it's definitely a good change considering how warrior suffers IF there's really one, better if this means we can expect more in the future, but best if we could be informed.

Worst in-game decisions ever?

Posted: 13 Jun 2017 06:22 AM PDT

Playing my favourite Jade Rogue I've just met a Jade Druid that had only one Jade Idol in their deck and decided to convert it to a golem instead shuffling 3 copies into the deck. Needless to say, they lost due to fatigue.

I searched the sub and there seems to be no non-archived topic on this, so: what is the worst in-game decision you've ever made or seen somebody else make? :)

What is the best designed hearthstone card? Grand finals

Posted: 13 Jun 2017 08:37 AM PDT

https://strawpoll.com/s22r3ce

After 22 days and tens of thousands of votes, we have determined 9 class finalist and 7 neutrals.

Vote on the card that is best designed mechanically, ignoring art, lore and theme.

Don't just vote for the most powerful card.

Vicious Fledgling has single-handedly won too many arena games, but it doesn't have to be Warsong-Commandered

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 02:20 PM PDT

Arena has always been an escape from constructed for me, even before Pirate Warrior became the leading discouragement.

But since Un'Goro released, now and again arena games are settled by who plays a Vicious Fledgling first without their opponent having removal. It doesn't even feel satisfying when it wins me games - there is no way I can claim I out-played my opponent.

I know r/Hearthstone loves to make suggestions to Blizzard as if Team 5 are actually paying attention to these upvote-credited snippets of infinite wisdom, but for the sake of keeping the arena playerbase, please do something about this toxic card.

It doesn't even have to be nerfed to oblivion, and there's even an (albeit questionable) alternative to removing it from arena drafts: Who actually cares about Windfury in the adapt mechanic?! I think it's defined one, joke deck and that's about it. Windfury could be removed from the adapt choices and the number of tears from Hearthstone players would have a resultant decrease.

At the very least, any change would be a huge sigh of relief to me and many arena players. I hesitate to post so negatively, but I love this game and hate to see it ruined like this.

TL;DR Fledgling OP, Blizzard plz nerf.

EDIT: Misleading TL;DR. I'm not saying it's an overpowered card. I'm saying it creates an unhealthy possibility that the game just ends on turn 3 in the above scenario. Such events where the game depends on whether one has drawn (or drafted) removal at such an early phase is bad rng, especially in arena where removal is much more scarce.

One time region change

Posted: 13 Jun 2017 12:58 AM PDT

I think it would be cool if Blizzard allows us to have a one time region change. Most people I know play on NA and I regret not choosing that server, but my collection is too large right now to simply start over. Heck, I would even be willing to pay for a server change. Blizzard please?

We should have a mini adventure every 4 months in between expansions.

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 10:30 PM PDT

Imagine an adventure coming out tomorrow that included 10 cards. One class card for every class and a neutral legendary for $5-10. It could help give a little edge to a class that needs it like warlock and just freshen things up in general.

This is one of my favorite metas ever though and I do not want this to be taken as a complaint. There is just something about new expansions coming out that makes things fun.

The HOF dust made un'goro much more fun than I expected.

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 04:09 PM PDT

First things first, I'm just a casual player. I will typically spend $50 per expansion and I'm usually fairly let down with my collection by the end of the pack openings...

Until this morning when I noticed I still had 4500 dust hanging around. (That's moderately substantial for me, personally.) So, naturally I started crafting some cards and wound up with about 1000 left over. In total I've spent about 9000 dust this expansion, and I have had more fun stringing together random decks in un'goro than any other expansion. I'm convinced that the dust gained from those hall of fame cards really got/kept the ball rolling for me this time around. I certainly would like to see some sort of supplemental dust in the future, but I'm not expecting it.

So I was playing some Jade Rogue when I thought, "Shadow Caster might just work with Edwin Van Cleef."

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 01:29 PM PDT

I was right.

That's actually my third Van Cleef on the far right. First was an 8/8 on turn 4 followed by Shadow Caster turn 5 followed by my most interesting discovery that a 1 mana 1/1 Edwin Van Cleef is incredibly powerful.
