Dayz is an apocalyptic game, and I feel like it brings out the players true colours

Posted: 04 Jun 2017 07:00 AM PDT

Imagine you're thrown into a apocalyptic world, with nothing but a single rag, road flare, and the clothes on your back. Everyone complains about being kos, but if you could imagine being put in this scenario? Everyone would be terrified, not only of zeds, but other survivors, due to the fact that they know they are as desperate as you in this time. It's only very early when you start playing Dayz, or later on after a considerable amount of playing time, (in my opinion) do you realise that killing isn't the best way to get geared. Most people I have met on the game are very untrusting, which is understandable. Given the right opportunity though, this game can turn strangers into friends faster then most games. I don't really know what I was getting at with this post, just a bit of a rant. But this is how I feel about Dayz. I love the game, and look forward to what the coming years have to offer. Peace out survivors 🤙🏿

Bittersweet Dayz

Posted: 03 Jun 2017 11:55 AM PDT

After trying out the sweet new trees and dancing with them I finally headed inland to get geared and play some 0.62

I play as a bandit but try to be careful but don't kill unarmed / cooperative players. This time I was at a military Base north and I saw a geared guy running with some zombies troubling him. I decided to be nice for once and not shred him to pieces because he hadn't seen me yet. I yelled out and helped him. Turned out he was a nice guy named Landen and he was by himself. We made plans to head west to Tisy and I gave him some supplies and ammo.

We talked for a while when running west and had some nice conversations, He mentioned something about friends on ts. He asked me to hold on while he (what looked like) tabbed out for a minute to show his trust or to try my honesty. I didn't kill him.

He asked me to join ts3 and sent me the IP. I was very suspicious with tabbing out and decided to '''fake'' by not moving and the second I didn't move he blasted me in the face with the Ammo I gave him.

For half a second I was dissappointed but then I got happy because I got a nostalgic Dayz feeling. To me, the trust part of playing Dayz with strangers makes it one of the most unique games out there, and I finally got that feeling on Dayz Standalone years after first playing :)

Not really any use to this post but just wanted to share something that made me smile

Is the CR527 an as reliable one shot kill as the winchester?

Posted: 04 Jun 2017 04:51 AM PDT

i havent had much luck finding a winchester, though i have found plenty of 308 rounds, but i HAVE managed to find two cr527's and 2 mags for them but have yet to engage pvp with this rifle. Just wanted to make sure im not caught off guard with a chest hit and the guy keeps on running or anything.

Thanks

Want to be a bandit on no KoS server

Posted: 04 Jun 2017 06:48 AM PDT

Hi all, I've always played dayz as a passive player, never really interacting with strangers due to trust issues (most times I end up dead). So I'm playing on a private, no kos server and want to try my hand at banditry and was hoping any of you bandit scum could help...

The rules are simple: no killing other players by shooting, melee or other "detectable" methods. What I want to know is every way in which you can torture or possibly kill other players by non-detectable methods (to avoid being banned). Any other methods I could use to have fun with my victims would be appreciated!

Discussion on the latest EXP update and question about positional ambience

Posted: 04 Jun 2017 01:07 AM PDT

Hi guys,

Would anyone playing EXP please share their opinions on how the ambience volume is since the latest patch?

Also, I read in the SR that their were issues with positional audio when they were developing 0.62. I didn't find it very clear as to what they were going to do moving forward, despite the fact they went over potential options, will this be fixed before 0.62 stable or for 0.63? (Or later?)

Thank you.

Which walls/structures can you shoot through?

Posted: 03 Jun 2017 05:29 PM PDT

Hey guys, I'm wanting to get a list together of shoot-through-able structures.

Obvious ones include:

  • Tents
  • Sandbags
  • Bunkers made from sandbags
  • Wire fences (lol)
  • Tin fences (the metal ones that aren't transparent)
  • The small sheds at farming sites (both wooden or metal)

What about walls to buildings? For example, when you know a guy is crouching beneath the windowsill in the camo buildings at NWAF. Can you shoot just below the window and get him through the wall?

I lost my buddy

Posted: 03 Jun 2017 01:15 PM PDT

I spawn in, have no idea how to play and it's a deep dark night. After a few minutes of searching for food I find this guy and ask "You be my friend?". And so it began. The guy killed a chicken and cooked it. We shared the food. He made me a stick and defended me from zombies. We then ventured out into the unknown. And whenever he had something for me he would shout "Buddy?!".

One time this magical man found a tree and told me to eat. What? I look down and there's like twenty apples. How does this guy do it, I ask myself while stuffing my stomach with juicy apples.

And so it went on for some time. He had a bow and I held a sickle. We ran through hills and forests, hoping for the best in the future that was waiting for us.

We finally approached a big'ish town. The police station was empty, but near it I found a 9mm pistol in a car and Buddy had to try it out as he had some bullets. We baited a few zombies and ran to this two story house. Buddy shoots. I hear a ton of zombies stumbling across the stairs, coming up to get us. Buddy doesn't care, Buddy shoots. Buddy doesn't shoot, bullet ends. We back the fuck off and close the door. We're stuck with five of these undead sons of bitches. We take them out, using our sticks with apples on the other end. We take a few brief moments of rest and take the rest out, those behind the door.

And I though this was the end to our troubles... I wish.

I lost buddy while scavenging for stuff and returned to the last place I saw him. Sat down in the middle of the road and waited.

A few moments later I see someone running down the road, getting closer me. Buddy!!!

"Buddy?"

This guy, fully geared, runs up to me. I hear "Fuck off" as he shoots me in the head.

He no buddy.

EDIT: Oh, and the new exp sound effects are amazing. For a few times I removed my headphones to check if there wind's in the game or outside my window.

Memory leak in cars?

Posted: 03 Jun 2017 11:21 PM PDT

Me and my friends have been on experimental recently and every time we find a car and proceed to drive it for a bit our frames descend until the point where we are getting 5-10 fps and our games end up crashing. Is anyone else having this problem is it avoidable? It's really annoying because you just end up crashing and dying.

TL;DR Driving cars decreasing frames to the point of game crashing
