| Posted: 23 May 2017 10:19 AM PDT I posted a screenshot of this but the mods removed it because it apparently violated Rule 2, but I really wanted to share this because it made me so happy in a way that I haven't felt in years (boo depression). My goal for this event was to walk both Mareep and Larvitar to 110 candy each, at which point I'd wait to hatch a 90%+ one to fully evolve. I got Mareep there on Monday, and so switched to Larvitar, aiming to walk for 10+ candy each day (I was already on 80, and there were three days left of the event). Today, I decided to go on a lengthy walk to take advantage of the unexpected sunny weather and ended up on the other side of the city (Oxford, UK). I started walking further away to a Totodile that had appeared on my radar because I didn't yet have one, at which point my friend messaged me saying he had just caught an Ampharos about half an hour away from where I was. I thought 'what the hell' and legged it there. Now, it was a very hot day today, I'm very unfit, was dressed in all black, and was wearing hiking boots. The odds were stacked against me, but I ran and ran and ran. I got there in approximately 25 minutes and was really worried when two Geodude spawned where it should have been. Crestfallen, I took a few more steps forward and it appeared! Seeing a CP as high as 2193 (lvl 30, 60% IV I later found out), I momentarily panicked. I shouldn't have, because I caught it with my first Ultra Ball (and Razz Berry, obviously). The feeling of elation that swept over me was unlike anything I had ever felt from a game since I finally evolved my Dragonair in Pokémon Blue all those years ago. Clearly Niantic must have realised how happy I was feeling: a few minutes later, I hatched my 3rd Gligar of the week [link] [comments] | ||
| Why do trackers exists [answer inside] Posted: 23 May 2017 02:52 PM PDT Hi. I play from day 1 and i really love PokemonGo and how its growing day by day. Thanks to this game i made new friends and i'm still in contact with them, i explored places i usually forgot about and i had a lot of fun making groups and fighting for my city Gyms. The game had a feeling of incomplete but still funny. Then the speedlock happened. I was used to catch my daily 2-3 pokemon while going to work using the Go+ (yeah, bought it on day1). My game-time was reduced only to weekend. My friends started to lose interest but i still organized party and gym raids in order to continue to play. We reached a sort of balance and started to play daily again, even for only just 30 minutes. Then the new tracker happened. That was pretty hard to handle. Our city have lots of pokestop, but we live rural and cannot go to our pokestop populated area daily. We felt blind. In my area i have 5 pokestop, but 2 are on the other side of a river i cannot travel by foot. The other 3 are pretty far, even if the tracker revelead something interesting i still have to take my car to reach it. I was confused, the speedlock means i should play by feet, the tracker means i should play by car. Its a lost-lost situation. My friends loses interest about the game, gyms become stagnant (because of the low player number) and i just logged on daily to get gyms money. Months passed and gen2 happened. That was cool, i started playing again, but my friends just don't have any reason to play, so i got alone. You know, this game is fun if played with others, but everytime i open the game its just me in an empty map, with far pokestop and a complete blindness of what pokemon are around me. So.. i decided to use my inner-nerd-side to solve this. I found the famous mapping engine that lets you scan a fixed area for pokemon. I uses lot of my spare time to understand how to made it work, buying a VPS with unbanned ip, started making accounts and completed this with a Telegram for automatic segnalation of interesting spawns. I used a free-dns to have a regoular url and started spamming to friends and local groups. It was a slow start, but then it started. Lot of user joined the telegram group, tons of daily session on the site. After some weeks we had to create a second telegram group only for chatting, because we have always more players joining. We made a great group of friends from all the 3 teams. The first time a magikarp 100%IV spawned it was the panic. Everyone wanted it and they started meeting each other for the first time, sharing cars and reaching the loved pokemon. It was really fun, we felt the game as a group. Everytime a rare spawn appeared someone got it and told us the CP, we made a strong community with more than 70 users (its a lot here, my city is pretty small) and we chat daily, organize sushi dinner, get in rage because of the yellow team taking our red gyms and.. yeah, having fun. Yeah, there was some spoofer along us, and they were banned from the telegram group. We all like to play and have fun, but spoofer kills our game destroying gyms too fast. After seeing this community working well some other players from near citys started calling me for setting up a tracker on their city (they were not nerd enough), and we made other strong communities thanks to this. I want to say this: i never asked for money. Never asked for donation, never added ads on my site. I only accepted beers as form of payment and only when we hang together. And now, the new shadowbanning systemThis is big. I really have no idea if the tracker maintainers will be able to find a workaround to this. I'm pretty sad that this is not affecting spoofers, our real problem. I hope our community will survive, but without a reason to stay in contact i fear the same old story will happen again. So this: trackers to exists because they compensate for the game missing mechanics, and give us a reason to play. But ehy, i'm not making this wall to text to beg our trackers back, i want to point out that they was needed to enjoy the game and to create communities of active players. So.. what we can do now? I fear we can have nothing to do, but Niantic can. They can fill the game with the feature we need:
This is no easy task and lot of thinking and coding is required to do this. I could suggest a few (valid) ways, but thats out of this topic. If this post will not die in the downvotes hell i will try to made it. Right now we have a delicate situation. We are still killed from speedlock, a total blindness about nearby pokemon and about other players, and we lost the only tool to help us enjoy the game. But.. we have a thing. Yeah, a great thing that not lot of game-community can be proud about: we have a strong, dedicated, organized, third party developer community. Just think about it: If Niantic give us a way to interact with the game in some other ways.. the open-source community can make this game great again! (oh god, sorry for the cit) I dream a world (yeah, another cit) where third party devs can access to game's API and make legal tool to analize IVs, organize pokemon, get in touch with other players, share information about found pokemon, all in a legal way without have to fight with Niantic! What about a tracker? I admit it, its just too easy with it. The game should give us something we have to fight for it. If gyms works as.. pokemon radar? the greater the gym level the greater the radar range, but visible only to its team. Everyone will be fighting to get it, so we can have a tracker system and a reason to play with only one change! Ok yeah i told to not spam ideas for how to fix the game but i couldn't resist to that one. I just hope someone in Niantc will read this and give us some hope about the future of the game we love :) Just a last clarification: why i created a new user to post this? Because my reddit user have the same in-game username and.. well, since i admitted what i did i wouldn't like a in-game impact eheh [link] [comments] | ||
| The "damage penalty" for joining in a fight late has been fixed. Posted: 23 May 2017 12:06 PM PDT There is a lot of negativity in this subreddit, so I wanted to point out a positive fix Niantic has made. In the past, when you joined in a fight late, you would take all the damage upon joining the fight, as if you were there since the begining, this would penalize players with slower devices when fighting gyms in groups. A couple of days ago, this has been fixed. Players can now join in anytime, without the fear of taking a huge chunk of damage upon joining. I think Niantic is slowly working to fix all the issues in this game, but it takes time to get around the more complicated bugs. I personally am grateful for this fix and look forward to any upcoming change. [link] [comments] | ||

| My 4 year old has some amazing luck... Posted: 23 May 2017 09:09 PM PDT Except for his Pinap Berry drop rate which I've mentioned before, he has some incredible luck. First, he hatched each of the baby Pokémon without a single duplicate when they were first introduced. And now, since the start of guaranteed evolution item on the 7th day Pokestop spin, he's managed to get each item with only 1 duplicate week. Which I might add, was rectified 3 days later when he grabbed 2 metal coats from his second and fourth spin of the day. I on the other hand, am sitting on 4 Upgrades and 3 metal coats (1 of which I've used already). We had both been without a sunstone until last week when he got one and evolved his sunkern and today he got another to evolve his Gloom. He loves to see me jealous. [link] [comments] | ||
| [Discussion] Now which Gen 2 do you actively avoid? Posted: 23 May 2017 06:18 PM PDT Zubat, Spearow, Goldeen, Pinsir are the "don't bother" Gen 1 Pokemon. So what's Gen 2 "avoid like the plague" 'mons? Sudowoodoo has made the list in this event. Ultra plus Razz with great throw... escapes... same again... escapes. Repeat or cut losses. The odd one has been simple but most have been worse than Sentret, Slugma or Murkrow. [link] [comments] | ||
| It would be cool if Professor Willow had aides who rewarded you with an Itemfinder and an EXP Share Posted: 23 May 2017 04:53 PM PDT In the original Pokemon games when you have caught a certain number of Pokemon you can find and talk to the Professor's aides and they reward you with certain things like an Itemfinder and an EXP Share. In PoGo, maybe these items could be used to find evolution items and help speed up walking with your buddy? Just a thought. [link] [comments] | ||

| Always check before you do random things... Posted: 23 May 2017 08:18 PM PDT (Backstory) I had a CP 583 ONIX with good IV's that I've been dying to evolve, but I couldn't get a metal coat because RNG. (Story) So I was browsing through my collection of Pokémon then I clicked on my CP 10 Onix with bad IV's nicknamed "Crappy 5". (At this point, my brain was just on autopilot and I had no idea what I was doing) I then clicked on the evolution button and I see "do you want to use this item on your Pokémon?" And me being on autopilot, I clicked the metal coat. When I realized what I was doing, it was too late. I watch in horror as my CP 10 Onix is getting evolved into a Steelix using that metal coat I didn't even know I had. I was trying to convince myself that I didn't do what I just did, but I saw that Steelix come out and oh boy it was bad... [link] [comments] | ||
| [Idea] Increased Item Drops the less Pokéstops are around for rural balance Posted: 22 May 2017 11:01 PM PDT Hi All, I live in a rather rural area of Germany, my city counts not even 2,000 inhabitants. But I'm lucky enought to have 3 Pokéstops in close range, one gym + Stop in mid range and 1 more Stop further away. I know a lot of small villages around me that do not even have one Pokéstop. But even with "that many" stops for me I would permanently suffer on Pokéballs if I did not have my job in a bigger city. Since Niantic added the new Spawns in rural areas (a few months back), at first more Spawns at the Pokéstops and later the Spawns on footpaths from Open Street Map, it has even ran more out of balance. My suggestion would be to permanently increase the drops on rural Pokéstops. To determine what stops are "rural" Niantic should check if there are Pokéstops within a 100m radius, for example. If so, the chance of more drops is reduced for every Stop found within this range. I think a standalone Pokéstop should drop about 6-9 items per default and it should take away one item for each Stop within the radius until its down to the droprate that currently exist. These increased chances should also apply to the daily bonus on the first spin. This might cause players to go out of the cities for their first spin or at least for the seventh day streak. And travaling is what Niantic wants in the first place, right? What do you think about this? [link] [comments] | ||
| Adventure Week: How many Larvitar have you caught? Posted: 23 May 2017 10:44 AM PDT With all the talk about Larvitar increases and decreases, how many have you been able to catch? I've found 4 in the wild, thankfully caught them all. A mix of neighborhood, rest stops, and while biking, so I've had to move a lot to find that many. On the hatch side, I got 2. All in all, a great Adventure Week in my opinion. Edit: so many zeros, I'm sorry for you all and wish you luck the remainder of the event. [link] [comments] | ||

| [Question] What do you name your Pokémon? Posted: 23 May 2017 08:49 PM PDT I usually just name mine by their IV and letter grade for attack and defense (ex. Rhydon91AB) but I'm trying to get smarter about how I name my monsters. I'm just curious what ideas work for others. I'm sorry if there are tons of threads like this. I tried searching but the reddit search feature leaves a lot to be desired! [link] [comments] |
