I made an infinite, seed based world generator with command blocks. It can do the overworld, the end, and the nether. I call it the Far Lands Generator. Or FLANDERS for short.

[Tool] Minecraft 1.12 Snapshots Custom Recipe "Mod"

Posted: 03 May 2017 02:34 PM PDT

Hey guys, first time posting here. Earlier this week I found out that in the new 1.12 snapshots you can create custom recipes by modifying your JAR file and adding JSON files to it, I thought this was really awesome (considering I developed a mod to add custom recipes to minecraft 1.7.10) and I wanted to remake this for vanilla minecraft using an external tool (I call it a mod because it does technically modify the JAR file, but it only adds resource files, no code changes) so I did just that and wrote a program in C#

Anyways if you're interested here's a link to the tool's installer

I've also made a video showing how to use it, but didn't have a mic at the time, sorry about that

Requirements:

  • A minecraft installation

  • A Windows operating system

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6+ (This would theoretically work on a linux or mac system with Mono installed, but I haven't tested it and I don't officially support it.)

If you have any question about the program, how it works, or suggestions, or if you find a bug, leave a comment. I'll reply to everything much as I can, and most of all have fun!

Edit: I noticed a lot of people have been downloading the tool I made and something I wanted to implement originally but didn't know how at the time was multiplayer support, I've figured out a way to implement it now and will be updating the tool. I also have a few other things I want to implement while I'm at it as well like the ability to share your recipes with others. When it's done I'll upload the download link and this post to let people know, you'll need to redownload it when it's ready if you want access to the new features.

Is it ok to leave my custom minecraft server running 24/7? I don't want to destroy my computer :(

Posted: 03 May 2017 02:44 PM PDT

Noob question just got back into minecraft. Been hosting a minecraft server with my friends and I was wondering if its ok to have the server up 24/7 for them to play because I am not always here. Will that ruin my computer? I'm a noob to this stuff! Need advice. They are just connecting via my IP e.t.c

Why do nether portals in the nether sometimes set me on fire?

Posted: 03 May 2017 04:23 PM PDT

In 1.11 I had a nether portal sitting on bedrock in the nether that always set me on fire when I entered it. In the process of troubleshooting I raised the portal 1 block and it stopped doing it, so I assumed that sitting on bedrock was the problem. Now in the snapshots I have a nether portal at Y=40ish that sets me on fire about 40% of the time upon entering the dimension. How do I make this stop? I'm on the verge of getting a resource pack that lowers fire animation because I'm getting sick of being practically blind for several seconds when I enter the nether.

"Walking Simulator" Modpack

Posted: 03 May 2017 12:17 PM PDT

I've always been interested in the emergent gameplay options in Minecraft... For what started as a sandboxy construction game, people use it for an art tool, a music box, puzzle and adventure maps, etc. I've always loved the simplistic beauty of Minecraft, especially with mods, and I'm looking to put together a pack of mods that allow the construction of a "Walking Simulator" type world.

Walking Simulators are gaining popularity these days with titles like The Stanley Parable, Firewatch, Dear Esther, Everybody's Gone To Rapture, etc... They're also called "narrative games" or "empathy games" because they're designed to let the player uncover the narrative through (mostly) peaceful exploration, and they're intended to evoke an emotional response from players.

Right now I'm looking for various aesthetic and functional mods for a relatively medieval based world. More building materials (Earthworks, Chisel, Chisels n Bits, More Materials), more immersive objects (MalisisDoors, Fairy Lights, Advanced Chimneys), more life to the world (Custom NPCs, Animania) and of course, Bibliocraft to give me lots of options for books, signs, etc, to help communicate the story.

Does anyone have any suggestions for additional mods I could include in this pack? I'm trying to stick within the realm of what's available via Curse, in order to make it an easily distributable pack with its map when I'm done.

My full mod list is as follows:

  • Advanced Chimneys
  • Animania
  • Better Builder's Wands (just for construction purposes, may remove for distribution)
  • Better Foliage
  • Better With Mods
  • BetterFps
  • BiblioCraft
  • Big Doors
  • Biomes O' Plenty
  • Chisel
  • Chisels & Bits
  • Custom NPCs
  • DecoCraft2
  • Dynamic Surroundings
  • Earthworks
  • ExtraBlocks
  • Fairy Lights
  • Gravestone mods - Graves
  • Homecraft Mineware
  • Inventory Tweaks
  • JourneyMap
  • Just Enough Items (JEI) (also may remove for distribution, or disable)
  • Lattice Mod
  • Literal Ascension
  • MalisisBlocks
  • MalisisDoors
  • MalisisSwitches
  • More Materials
  • McCrayfish's Furniture Mod
  • Pam's HarvestCraft
  • Plants
  • Rustic
  • Signpost
  • Stellar Sky
  • Vanilla Immersion
  • Waila
