/r/WildHearthstone Meta Tierlist May 2017

Posted: 01 May 2017 03:51 AM PDT

This is the /r/WildHearthstone Wild Meta TierList. This TierList is modeled after some of the other meta snapshots, but for the wild format of Hearthstone. We feel that having a wild snapshot would be beneficial for anyone interested in playing wild, whether it be someone trying to get #1 Wild legend, or someone trying wild for their first time. So without further ado.

Tier 1:

Tier 2:

Tier 3:

Tier 4: (In alphabetical order, class then deck)

Introduction

This wild snapshot has been put together by some Wild Expert players who consistently hit top legend in wild, and have a feel on the Meta and how it changes. They have consulted with other wild legend players and using their combined experience have constructed a tier list of which decks are doing the best in the current meta.

With all the talk going on in the Hearthstone community about Meta Reports, we would like to put out a brief disclaimer before continuing. We at /r/WildHearthstone have created this Meta Snapshot as a tool for those who are interested in the wild format and we have created it to the best of our abilities. Our tier list is based off of what we believe is the optimal version of each list. However, there are many ways to build a deck, and example decklists may not line up exactly with the archetype descriptions.

Insights

Welcome back to our /r/WildHearthstone TierList! In the past, the wild metagame had been mostly similar to the standard one albeit a few changes. At this point in time the Wild metagame is vastly different than the standard one due to the fact that ~30% of the available card pool is exclusive to wild. Ever since the Un'goro expansion came out earlier this month, the meta has been in flux. Everyone has been trying out different variations of old and new decks, and the overall power level of Un'goro has allowed for a pretty significant shake up in the best versions of the decks available in wild.

With the addition of this expansion it quickly became clear that Pirate Warrior is still the top dog in Wild. Ships cannon keeps the meta in check, preventing the really greedy deck from flooding the ladder. Luckily, Wild has many more support tools than standard at warding off aggro such as sludge belcher and antique healbot, which keeps this deck from staying too far ahead. Additionally in tier 1 we see our old friend Reno in his prime in the Renolock deck. This deck has the versatility to be able to hold off pirate warrior a sufficient amount of the time, while being able to go toe to toe against other control style decks. We also see that egg druid has finally gotten up to tier 1 in this meta. With a fast start, this deck farms pirate warrior, but is a bit weak to decks that run a lot of AOE.

In tier 2, we have some decks that look completely different than their standard counterparts (if standard even has a version of it). The decks that are at the top of the tier consist of Control Shaman, Reno Mage, Aggro Shaman, Control Warrior, and Flood Paladin. These are all very strong decks, and when teched properly can slice through the meta.

Reflecting back on the previous TierList, we feel that Wild has now grown into its own exclusive meta, and is not just a shadow of the standard format. Wild has started to finally become fully "WILD"! We are all looking forward to what the upcoming month will bring, especially with the new race to top 64 legend that blizzard has hinted about.

If you missed it, in the full album there are some write-ups of each deck on the tierlist giving a brief description of the deck, and how it has fared this month in the meta.

The Team

We would like to give a big thanks to our team of Wild Experts who put this tierlist together.

Hearthstone would be way more FUN if cards like Swashburgler, Babbling Book, etc. revealed the card drawn to the opponent.

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 10:33 PM PDT

Right now, the worst feel-bad moment in the game is being on the receiving end of "that perfect card" from something like Babbling Book or Swashburgler - especially Swashburgler, with the way people are bouncing that card around in Quest Rogue these days.

Sure, it feels good (although I think some people might even disagree with that) to be the guy that gets the perfect high roll. But I actually think it would be more fun for both people if the card given to the player was revealed first. It allows the opponent an opportunity for reasonable counterplay under the new circumstances, that's the obvious part. But! I don't think this is a loss of fun for the receiving player either, because now they know that the opponent knows what they have. There's more information out there to make decisions with, and making decisions is fun.

Hearthstone is at its most fun when RNG creates surprising moments for players to reasonably respond and adjust to, not when RNG by itself swings a game in a way that one player could not have reasonably played around.

I would feel better (i.e. not a cheap bastard) playing something like Swashburgler and knowing that my opponent knows what new cards are in my hand. I can even use that information to my advantage and set up next level plays(!). THAT'S REALLY FUN! That's where Hearthstone shines and does things that other card games can't! But right now, the way these cards play out, there's no point in playing around Swashburgler. He plays it, I shrug my shoulders and don't adjust my gameplan, because I can't and shouldn't. And when I can't and shouldn't adjust my gameplan to a Rogue's sudden requisition of Hex - and he uses it the next turn in a game deciding move - I throw my hands up and feel like I wasn't able to make any kind of choice in the game that could have mattered. That's not fun. That's a feel-bad for the loser, and not necessarily a feel-good for the winner to get a freebie Wall Street bailout.

Would love to hear what you guys think about all of that.

FFS - please blizzard remove common cards from the arena rewards pool

Posted: 01 May 2017 07:03 AM PDT

I just finished my arena run and got my rewards. It took me about 1.5 hours to end the run with 5:3. As a reward I got a pack, 55 gold and a common card. Because of the 150 gold I spent to enter the arena I got 5 gold + a common card as a reward. Despite the fact that I would have gotten almost 20 gold (1 win missing) if I would have played ranked instead, I made -15 gold but got a common card. I really like to play arena to get rid of the meta decks and to play some cards, that are not viable for ranked, but with those rewards I don't feel like playing arena anymore.

Brian Kibler on: The Cost of Un'Goro

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 11:17 AM PDT

I added three people at legend rank yesterday to talk about the great game we had, they all expected me to rage at them.

Posted: 01 May 2017 06:49 AM PDT

Yesterday I added 4 or 5 people to discuss and congratulate them on a great game, I finished #149 legend so they were all properly competitive games. Three of them accepted and all expected me to be salty and rage when in fact I was adding for the complete opposite reason! This says a lot about the majority of people who add after games. Can we start being friendly to players when we have a great game? Let's change the mindset and expectations when you get a request after a long tough game!

The Recipe For Disappointment OR: Why is "The Dig" a deck recipe for beginners?

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 11:41 AM PDT

(Pick a replacement: http://imgur.com/a/AjI7f )

Playing a new account at rank 24 I've met what seemed like a net-deck of Crystal Rogue without any Legendaries. Yes, without ANY Legendaries, including The Caverns Below - the key kard that makes the deck work.

It was a pitiful sight - the player clearly had no idea what they were doing, and I laughed a little that somebody could be so clueless as to miss the whole point of the deck.

I shared this with my brother, who said: 'Brother Dear, go to your collection and make a new Rogue deck, then check out the recipe called The Dig'.

So I did, and I wept, for my heart was heavy with sorrow.

What is the purpose of offering a deck recipe for a combo deck in which the most important card is a Legendary? Who does it serve? Certainly not the new players.

I imagine how perplexed my opponent must've been - after all, they made a deck from a recipe, with missing cards so helpfully replaced by the plucky Innkeeper. What went wrong? How do I play this deck? How do I win?

The Dig is not a recipe for a deck - it's a recipe for a potential new player who gets angry and disappointed and stops playing because they don't know what they're doing wrong.

Crystal Core interactions you should be aware off

Posted: 01 May 2017 09:16 AM PDT

Since there have been a lot of threads recently about how specific interactions with Crystal Core work, I thought it would be helpful to have a small summary of how Crystal Core works and what interactions are worth noting.

How does it work

The moment a minion appears on your side of the battlefield its health is set to 5/5. This happens before any battlecry takes place, before any attack happens and literally before anything else. However if a minion appears that already is damaged, the 5/5 will be just as damaged as the original minion (the only way how this is possible is via redemption afaik). The "buff" called crystalized cannot be lost by anything and will remain even if the minion swaps boardsides.

Worth noting interactions

  • Potion of Madness, Mindcontrol and Shadow Madness all will make the minion you take a 5/5. Dont make the mistake I did trying to trade that 2/2 into a 2/1 since you will give your opponent a 5/3!

  • Redemption A minion resurrected via redemption will have 6-x health where x is the total unbuffed health of the minion. So if you are facing a quest rogue who has a paladin secret up that could be redemption, you should rather trade into the ferryman (resurrecting as a 5/3) rather than the novice engineer (resurrecting as 5/5). I guess this is the most unknown interaction.

  • Noble Sacrefice and Spellbender will obviously be 5/5 and will deal 5 damage when attacked, even though it still shows 2/1 statline in the first case during the attack.

  • Barnes, Herald and literally any Minion that summons a 1/1 copy of something else will infact only summon a 1/1 copy. Why is that so? Well within the battlecry the minion is first summoned (set to 5/5) and then set to 1/1. However if you silence that 1/1 minion it will infact be a 5/5.

  • Polymorph and Hex are obvious cases I guess. The main value you can get out of them vs a quest rogue is denying the flame elementals when cast on Igneous elemental.

Hope this thread helps in those very nieche situations! Happy to see some comments.

Gonna go tear up the ladder with my shiny new cards now

submitted by /u/sourkrout
[link] [comments]

I finished at rank 10 . . .and I couldn't be happier.

Posted: 01 May 2017 12:07 AM PDT

While I've played Hearthstone for a couple of years now, I've always been a casual mainstay due to really bad anxiety about both the ladder and crafting cards. With the release of Un'Goro and some tough personal times, I decided to face my fear and give ranked play an actual try. And just to be fair to myself, I also decided to give the crafting thing a try. And so I dabbled a bit in both Pirate Warrior and Aggro Druid to see what they were like, although for the most part I played an honest midrange Hunter. It turns out that using aggro decks also cause me anxiety, lol! I think I do better with midrangy types of things, and things that stop the opponent from hitting my face repeatedly, which I'll be keeping in mind for next season.

I learned that I have a lot to learn, but I managed to move from 19 to 10 in the course of last night and today, which feels not half bad to a scrub like myself. Along the way I played against 5 different quests (Rogue, Mage, Warrior, Shaman, and Priest), exactly one Paladin deck with Murlocs in it (I won!), and just plain had a lot of fun. Cost issues aside, Hearthstone sure feels to me like it's in a great place right now.

I know there are a lot of folks talking up getting to legend or rank 5 for the first time, and kudos to all of them. For now I'm going to enjoy my first little slice of victory. But I'm looking forward to the work involved in getting over the next hill, from paying closer attention to my plays to working with a game tracker to log my games.

Since Un'goro release, Hearthstone's performance has taken a major dip.

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 09:10 AM PDT

As title says, ever since Blizzard pushed the Un'goro patch, Hearthstone has consistently hogged my CPU even with idle. My specs didn't change, the game did. I have an i7-5500U quad core, a game like Hearthstone should not be lagging when playing animations, yet it does.

This is without even mentioning the exit bug, in which the game crashes and needs to be shut down from the Task Manager. I've not seen any talk about performance from any of the devs.

This is unacceptable from Blizzard. How is it a game like NBA 2k16 or Skyrim Special Edition can run on high, yet HS stumbles and lags behind???
