True back then, true today. Life does move pretty fast, just as posts move pretty fast on /r/DestinyTheGame. Once a week, "This Week in /r/DestinyTheGame History" brings you some of the gems from this time last year. It's a walk down memory lane to give some perspective of where we were and how things have (or haven't) changed in the last trip around the Sun. Maybe you made the post, maybe you saw the post, maybe you missed the post. Relive it or discover it for the first time. Either way, we hope you enjoy this blast from the past.

Posted: 06 May 2017 07:05 AM PDT I'm not so much missing the Zen Meteor, but I NEED the Echo Chamber and missing Crucible Maps in my life. [link] [comments] |
I hope secret raid puzzles (eg. Outbreak Prime) are a thing in Destiny 2. Posted: 06 May 2017 02:18 AM PDT Did you enjoy how Wrath of the Machine had the secret puzzle with the monitors and the canister stepping sequence which came about from an ARG? I think that was a massive step in the right direction for Destiny, and I would be ecstatic if these sorts of mysteries were maintained in Destiny 2. What do you guys think? [link] [comments] |
Shoutout to the100.io group and what you can accomplish even with strangers Posted: 06 May 2017 08:22 AM PDT Back story.. The100.io group for Atheon Challenge Only.. Before hand people were saying they were stuck on the challenge for hours while in chat. We enter the game, no supers and fast communication. and than literally 1 phase... Even after I casually said we probably wouldnt get it first run because we've never played together.. [link] [comments] |
Community Focus - Destiny Flavor Text Posted: 05 May 2017 03:42 PM PDT Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/45896 Our focus this week comes from the DestinyTheGame subreddit. Amidst all the chatter about the game, there is an account that replies to posts and comments only using flavor text from Destiny. Every piece of armor, weapon, mission, ship, and sparrow contain a little extra insight into the Destiny universe. Destiny Flavor Text combs through them to create some clever responses. No one knows who they are or if they are even human. We spoke with the source of this humor to see if we could crack the case. Tell us a little bit about yourself?
You sound like a badass. What is your roll in the Destiny Community? Why are you calling me out? My allegiance is to Dead Orbit. Where can we find you on the internet?
OK… So what is your favorite subclass?
And your favorite Weapon? I see what you did there. So out of all of the Destiny flavor text, which one is your favorite?
A lot of Redditors seem to think you're a bot—or maybe even a Warmind! Are you ready to set the record straight? Come on DFT, give it to us straight. Are you a living, breathing human being or what? Whoa… that's a deep Tower thought. So what will you do with yourself once you inevitably run out of flavor texts to post?
Oh, you! Are you excited about Destiny 2?
Is it true you are going to make it the Destiny 2 Gameplay Premiere on May 18th? Your presence at the big show will settle the debate about your existence forever. Anything else you would like to add before we let you go? That doesn't sound pleasant. We'd like to thank Destiny Flavor Text for taking the time to respond to our inquiries in thought-provoking ways. Keep an eye out for them on Reddit; you never know what they're going to say. Do you know someone you think would make a great Community Focus? Let us know on our community forum. Just make a post with the tag #CommunityFocus. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 May 2017 12:57 AM PDT I can't be the only one here wishing that ALL legendary weapons would be coming back with Rise of Iron. Old weapons like the Super Pox VLO and the old AllFate Pulse Rifles never got to come back with Rise of Iron even tough most of the old Vanilla Vanguard weapons came back too. I also find it extremely annoying that even though the theme of Rise of Iron is nostalgia, that we also never got all of the old Legendary armor sets back as well. I don't see how Bungie couldn't use the same Faction package system as a way of letting players choose which expansion and which type of stuff they wanted, i.e., someone ranks up their Vanguard and they get an option of: Vanilla, TDB, HoW, TTK, and RoI drops, then they get the Weapons, Armor, or Chroma options allowing people to actually try and farm specific weapons from specific expansions' loot pools. Do the Vanguard have something against Cayde? Posted: 06 May 2017 07:13 AM PDT I constantly find myself questioning why Ikora is acting the way she is towards Cayde during the remastered Nexus strike. Is it because he sent a guardian to be Dreadnaught without authorization? [link] [comments] |

So that's how the Cabal win wars... Posted: 06 May 2017 01:02 PM PDT I assume this is the Cabal equivalent of infiltration. Gifv (Sorry Kyle, one step ahead of ya!) [link] [comments] |
Hey, remember the Book of Sorrows? Ya... Here's the book. Posted: 05 May 2017 03:20 PM PDT I've been working on a personal project of turning all of the grimoire into a readable book. It's taking a lot of effort to format it and to put it in the correct order. So, until I finish with that, here's a little preview of what it would potentially look like when I'm done! Let me know what you guys think! The book of sorrows was pretty easy to make into a book, since it comes in correct order already. The rest of the grimoire... not so much. Edit: hey guys! Sorry I haven't replied much as I was on a road trip. I read everyone's comments and will experiment more! In about 2 weeks, my website on page 30 should be live and I'll have updates there! Eris Morn is Selling a 100% Warlock Bond Posted: 06 May 2017 10:07 AM PDT I searched first but didn't see this mentioned anywhere, and she appears to be sadly ignored on the Weekly Vendor Reset Megathread, so here goes my first ever post: Eris is selling the "Curse of the Hidden" Warlock Bond with 100% T12 stats – Int/Str. If you're a loyal Eris devotee like me, and keep one of her Class Items for each of your characters, then you might want to use this chance to max yours out so that you're ready in case… ummm… you know… "that day" suddenly comes… [link] [comments] |
I was bored so I ran a raid... Posted: 05 May 2017 10:38 PM PDT I usually run all my raids Tuesday and Wednesday to get it all done. I just have theory that all hardcore experienced players just want to get their raids over with so they don't have to think about it again until reset. And it hasn't failed me yet but I also check completions stats. Tonight I was bored so I went on LFG.net and set filter "Raid - Hard (Any)" and saw a post for a group LF1M @ Templar and must know how to run relic. So I thought why not? I'm not the greatest at relic but hey if they hate me they can just boot me. When I joined it sounded like younger players. And I heard them say they tried Templar like 50 times (exaggerated I'm sure) today. So I asked what strat they were running. They said relic block left, they all block right. One said they were in a group and that strat wasn't working so they left. And that they dedicated 2 people to ad duty. So I explained the strat I learned just 2 weeks ago from LFG - Mid strat. They sounded like kids but they didn't sound annoying and they listened! Their reactions to finally beating templar (one of the rewards was the emblem so first timer there) was a great feeling. Here's the entire fight (only 2ish minutes long) and we wiped a few times - one was cause I over swiped and fell off left platform lol. Not the best relic runner but I'm learning :) next I'll try to run it on my Hunter/Warlock without the bubble [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 May 2017 09:58 PM PDT So, a common complaint I see about strikes is they tend to follow the same basic formula: Kill adds, until you reach a boss, then pump it full of bullets and collect loot. Understandably, players want more nuance to the game. They want to solve puzzles and do stuff other than just fire their weapons at stuff. This would break up the monotony and add some more fun to the relatively uniform strikes we currently have. Certain sections of the community want Bungie to solve this by putting raid-level mechanics in strikes. This obviously wouldn't work, since complicated mechanics would require fireteam communication, which would require matchmaking to be disabled, which would make strikes unplayable for huge swaths of the players. However, starting with Rise of Iron, Bungie has actually been adding raid mechanics to strikes. Not in the form of shooting monitors or getting teleported to the future, but rather, dumbed down versions of existing raid mechanics. Let me show you what I mean. Strike: Sepiks PerfectMechanic: Use an elemental cannon dropped by a Fallen Captain to damage an otherwise invincible Servitor. This was taken straight from Aksis Parts 1 & 2. After the first damage phase, Sepiks perfected will generate a shield that is immune to all damage, except for a shot from a scorch/shock/null cannon of the matching element. Hitting him will bring down the shield. In Wrath, your fireteam needs to use elemental cannons to destroy a trio of similarly immune servitors. It's not exactly the same, but it follows in the spirit of the raid, and adds some interesting strategy to an otherwise straightforward fight. Strike: The Abomination HeistMechanic: Tombship Jumping Puzzle. This mechanic was brought to you by the King's Fall raid. In order to get to the Summoning Pits, you have to hitch a ride on a Tombship to cross the Hellmouth. This is a much simpler version of the puzzle from the raid, only involving two ships instead of ten, but I still think it's pretty fun. Hasn't killed nearly as many Guardians though. Strike: The Shadow Thief (Revisited)Mechanic: Destroy SIVA nodes to damage the boss. This one is a bit of a stretch. In Aksis part 1, you use SIVA charges to break SIVA nodes. Break enough, and you finish the encounter. In the strike, you destroy SIVA nodes with your weapons to earn a damage phase on Taniks. I personally think they could have gone even further with this, and incorporated SIVA charges in some way. Maybe instead of destroying nodes, we could throw them at Taniks to damage an extremely resistant (but not immune) shield, and get some extra damage in. Again, Bungie is putting effort into changing things up. Strike: The Nexus (Revisited)Mechanics: Activate a sync plate to access the boss area. Then use the Aegis to take down the indestructible shield of a giant Hydra or cleanse yourself in a pool of light to prevent death. Do I even need to explain these? They were actually literally taken straight from the Templar fight in Vault. They were of course tweaked slightly to make them easier for three random players to complete. You don't have to worry about oracles or anything with Marked by the Void. Skerion simply marks you periodically, and you run towards the nearest cleansing pool. In the Taken version of the strike, Skerion will instead periodically spawn an invincible shield. The Aegis will then appear. You pick it up, wait for the super to charge, and take down the shield. The relic then de-spawns. Pretty cool to have some practice for the raid in the strike. Bonus points for having a strike earlier in the mission. Honorable Mention: Echo ChamberThis isn't a raid mechanic, but actually something unique to the strike. For the first part, one member of the fireteam picks up a relic that slows them down but also charges their grenade. The other two Guardians then escort them to a capacitor where they discharge the relic and open up the next phase. This is repeated four times. In the boss chamber, you use the same relic to bring down the boss's invincibility. This is, in my opinion, Destiny's version of an escort the payload mission, and it's pretty damn fun. It's a shame XB players won't be able to experience it while it's relevant. This has some passing similarities to the second part of the Siege Engine, but only in the sense that players are carrying an object from point A to point B. The mechanic also appears very briefly in Fallen SABER, but I think Echo Chamber is where it really shines. It's worth noting that unlike the other strikes in this list, which had their raid mechanics added with Rise of Iron or the Dawning, this strike came during the Taken King. I speculate that it might be Bungie's first attempt at making a more dynamic strike. So why did I just write this all out? Well, I think it shows that Bungie is putting more effort into making strikes fun and varied. This adds variety to the game, and gives us fun stuff to do that isn't as involved and time-consuming as raiding. Hopefully this trend continues into D2, and Bungie gives us an even better variety of fun and dynamic PvE content. [link] [comments] |
