Is anyone else both looking forward to and dreading the D2 gameplay reveal?

Posted: 01 May 2017 09:28 AM PDT

I'm so excited to see D2 gameplay, but I know that as soon as I see it, I'm going to be way too excited. It will be torture for a few months between seeing the gameplay and actually playing the game.

TOWER THOUGHT: Siege of the Warmind is probably the most played yet never completed mission in Destiny.

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 11:14 PM PDT

I have not completed that mission since Year 1.

EDIT: For those that don't know, Siege of the Warmind is a great farming mission. As you enter the bunker (past the tunnel) you will find a red-bar knight and then a bunch of Thrall will come at you, there is a second knight and about eight Acolytes (estimate) in that room. Clear them without approaching the stairs. Once clear, go to the bottom of the stairs and quickly walk back but stay next to the railing. About five (never counted them) waves of six or so thrall will come down the stairs and run towards you in a straight line. They die very easily and they are a great way to fill your "kills with X" bounties, AoT requirements, sword requirements, etc. Once all waves are dead, jump off the side of the railing, revive and do it all over again until you finish your bounty.

Many have also mentioned Regicide (stupid thrall), The Dark Beyond and Exclusion Zone (hard mode for Cabal glimmer farming).

EDIT 2: Use Telesto on the thrall if you need to farm Orbs of Light.

The Devil in the Details

Just thought folks would appreciate this. Turns out it can be done, and the solo strat is currently being refined.

Evidently when Bungie puts in a restrictive mechanic, the answer is to simply tank it. -shrug-

More to follow soon.

Is Destiny far less toxic than other games?

Posted: 01 May 2017 07:33 AM PDT

Just thinking about this community a bit. The impression I get is that the Destiny community is far less toxic than other games like Call of Duty. Admittedly I don't play any of those other games (Destiny rarely gets ejected from my PS4). Is a game like Overwatch in the same mould as Call of Duty or is it more like Destiny from a toxicity standpoint?

I guess what I'm asking is if anyone knows the root of the issue? Is Destiny less toxic because it doesn't have a ranked PvP system? Is it because it's console only (for now)? Do these factors result in a slightly older (usually more mature) player base?

And lastly, does anyone thing Bungie had this idea in mind when creating vanilla and will things change in D2?

Killing Crota is the best feeling in Destiny

Posted: 01 May 2017 07:08 AM PDT

We can all agree that Crota's end was the most "easy" raid, the less strategic and everything but it's the only raid where as a player, you actually kill him with your "own" weapon, as a single player. Yes the last 4-5 seconds of Atheon are nice, yes shooting in the stomach of Oryx after building up is death for the past 15 minutes is special and yes, unloading all your weapons of Aksis before he wipe us all is cool but, but killing Crota with a sword, his sword, without a lot marge of error, when the boomers are shooting you and your fireteam is watching you is something else.

It's the only time where my heart is racing and the adrenalin is pumping. I was never sword runner in Y1 but since the old raids came back, I had the chance to do it and since then Crota's end is close with VoG for my favorite raid in Destiny.

If you have the chance to do it, do it, you'll be surprise how fun this is.

[Rubblethough] Zavala, Ikora, Cayde, and Shaxx get to keep what they are wearing at the fall of the Tower.

Posted: 01 May 2017 09:00 AM PDT

That'd be cool if we got to do the same. I mean, this isn't a 'BUNGIEPLZIWANNIT', but I really hope the Cabal don't field strip me and leave me in my bare underoo-jumpsuit.

I guess the other aspect is that maybe we are in some sort of ceremonial gear when 'it' happens.

Should Destiny 2 Have Unlimited Primary Reserve Ammo?

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 07:05 PM PDT

We've all had it happen at some point or another. It was more common in some patches than others. With the resurgence of Vault of Glass as a 390 Light version in the latest patch: Age of Triumph, we have many issues again with the scarcity of primary ammo. At times, especially during the Confluxes and the Templar fights, you may completely run out of primary ammo. With Destiny being a primarily first person shooter game, do you think Destiny 2 should alleviate this scarcity issue by giving unlimited primary reserve ammo?

Reasons For:

  1. In line with "Primary" weapon. If it's my primary, I should be able to rely on it at any time.
  2. It's more fun to be able to pew pew whenever I want to.
  3. Other games such as Overwatch and Titanfall successfully do this without creating issue with weapon economy or balance.
  4. PvE content should not be completely hindered by (primary) ammo droughts.
  5. PvP balance would not change. You die often enough that you don't really run out of primary in PvP anyhow unless you're a god.
  6. If you're a god in PvP (due to skill), you shouldn't be hardcapped because you ran out of ammo. This is especially true due to the recent special ammo drought. If you run out of all ammo, you're just plain fucked.

What does DTG think? Post reasons for or against in a comment. Let's let Bungie hear what DTG thinks about primary ammo economy, so please upvote (or at least refrain from downvoting the thread or comments) so we can get some discussion rolling on what DTG thinks. Respect others, regardless of the opinion being put forth by any side.

So, after 13ish hours and after I nearly shit myself in a final exam, here are some of the reasons people have brought up against infinite primary reserve ammo:

Reasons Against:

  1. Can promote cheese if level design is poor (e.g. Cerberus Vae).
  2. Ammo Synths.
  3. "Pity" Ammo.
  4. Doesn't happen often.
  5. Play aggressively.
  6. Removes complexity.
  7. Is unbalanced.
  8. Shoot better.

Let's look at some of the reasons for and their rebuttals and then the reasons against and my own rebuttals to those:

  1. In line with "Primary" weapon: You should use your special/heavy often enough that primary ammo isn't an issue.
  2. More fun: Not more fun.
  3. Other games: Titanfall's PvE didn't actually have unlimited ammo.
  4. Droughts: Play more aggressively and pick up ammo/don't be a pussy.
  5. PvP God: Gods pick up special, which drop primary.

Now, against:

  1. Can promote cheese if level design is poor (e.g. Cerberus Vae): This is a level design pitfall, not a primary ammo pitfall.
  2. Ammo Synths: They're clunky (partially due to menu loading) and I shouldn't be locked out of primary ammo if I use a heavy synth.
  3. "Pity" Ammo: Noted by some that it sometimes doesn't seem to work/takes forever to work (1 minute, which is a long time in PvE).
  4. Doesn't happen often: Having a lack of experience doesn't necessarily mean that it's not a problem. It does happen, and that's the crux.
  5. Play aggressively: Aggressive play isn't always the proper choice. For example, what if all the ammo is next to the Templar, and he'll shoot you full of holes if you try to pick up ammo?
  6. Removes complexity: True, but complexity isn't always a good thing. See this Extra Credits video on Depth vs Complexity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVL4st0blGU
  7. Is unbalanced: In terms of PvE, I disagree so long as level design is properly done (ties in with argument #1 rebuttal).
  8. Shoot better: As a player who has a rather high headshot rate in PvE, it's not always down to "shoot better."

Good discussion so far. Let's keep it flowing! Remember to keep it respectful, lest I invoke the power of calling the moderators and having them do my dirty work!

Destiny Nostalgia: Crota Normal Mode From Dark Below. Bonus: Inventory Screen with Old Weapons

Posted: 01 May 2017 08:28 AM PDT

I was going through some of my old clips from Destiny and found this video.

  1. Shows the old normal mode strategy for Crota (everyone in middle for ogres, chalice swapping, invis for Crota, etc).

  2. One can also notice that I was using the Truth because I did not get the Gjallarhorn yet. Lol, I was using the Truth in PvE

  3. If you go towards the end, I go into my menu and one can see the old inventory screen. It show where the bounties used to be, the old vault, etc. Kind of neat to see what it used to look like.

  4. Also at the end, you can see some of the old weapons that I used to use.

  5. The final point is you can see me switch gear without using the app. I had to manually put everything in the vault and switch. Additionally, you can see me swap titan gear; this was due to being forever 29. I deleted my hunter and made another titan so I could hit level 30 back in the VoG. I did not re-roll a hunter until before RoI.

NOTE: Video is not that exciting and like 15 minutes. It just brought Destiny nostalgia and was interesting to see how big the changes were. Just thought I would share.

TLDR: Watch if you want to see Crota normal mode from inception or would like to see the old inventory, weapons, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GXW4Kvrbjo

When the away team at Bridges need you to pick up the slack

Posted: 01 May 2017 08:39 AM PDT

You jump a deconstructing bridge, kill three-ish gatekeepers, and manage to course correct just in time to see some one on the hometeam die.

Would have been a sick save otherwise. Unpictured: me trying to walk back on the bridge to the home side. Did not work as hoped.

Watching Halo's GOAT play Destiny for the first time!

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 09:23 PM PDT

Just thought I would share with everyone one of the coolest streams I think I've ever seen. Ogre2, widely considered the greatest Halo player of all time, streamed his first time playing Destiny last night. I'm sure I can't link the stream here, but you can find the broadcast from yesterday easily enough. He didn't have a ton of views, but he did get some attention from the community. Triplewreck tweeted about it. Cozmo and Gamesager were in the stream for a little while. From what I could tell, he intends to get into Destiny 2 and wanted to get his feet wet and learn the game a bit. It was really cool watching this god tier fps player learning a game that we have been playing for 3 years for the first time. Of course, he didn't look like a new player for long once he got accustomed to the movement and a few of the maps, so don't be expecting to beat him in a 1v1 anytime soon;)

Don't be afraid to run sword on Crota

Posted: 01 May 2017 09:49 AM PDT

TL;DR - At first I was afraid...I was petrified of running sword...the new oversoul mechanic makes it a breeze - give it a shot (and consider using RazeLighter if you're the first sword runner in the group).

Year 1 Crota was extremely intimidating. I attempted it a few times with my Hunter, and was nearly having panic attacks because I didn't want to let my team down and the complex pattern of slamming him, dropping the sword, hitting him with melee to go invis, and picking the sword back up while moving around was always so stressful that I never wanted to run sword.

HOWEVER, the new mechanic with him summoning the oversoul changes EVERYTHING. Now that you don't have to worry about him immediately killing you if you get greedy with sword slams, you can jump up there, slam four times, run back to the rock, have your team down him, run up and slam 3 times + 1 super (which, by the way, is pretty much instant...if you're not getting 3 slams and a super on the second run, you're probably waiting too long on the rock....but, hey, that's OK!...you can still down him in 2 swords with the help of a titan bubble either way)

Knowing this new mechanic, I was willing to give it another shot this week, and I learned that on my Warlock I could consistently get him down to 25% health (with the help of a Titan bubble), and easily cleared the challenge on all three characters.

One tip to make things easier - if you're the first sword runner on the team, start the fight with RazeLighter - it melts the swordbearer so you can easily jump down, grab the chalice, melt the swordbearer, and get over to the rock before the thrall know what's going on. Then tell your team to down him, wait half a second, jump up on the platform, and run up to him (don't worry if he's still standing when you jump up on the platform as long as those rockets are starting to land, you'll be fine....most of the time). This'll give you plenty of time to slam him four times before running back to the rock. After the second set of hits, run back to the safe room, switch to Gally, and pop a synth.

Happy hunting!

I want to be able to dismantle in bulk in Destiny 2

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 09:18 PM PDT

After playing Archon's Forge for about an hour I got around 30 blue engrams. I decoded them all and started dismantling them one by one when I noticed how long it took to hold down 'x' (or square if you're on PS) on 30 items. The Division isn't exactly a great game, but I liked that it had a "mark as junk" option and that you could sell all your junk at once to vendors. I hope for Destiny 2 there'd by a similar feature to make sorting items quicker and easier so we can get back to playing the game
