| Posted: 23 May 2017 07:03 PM PDT I just got back from the field trip and it was very worth while. Unfortunately I wasn't able to ask all the questions you guys wanted but some of the answers I got to the questions I did ask were very interesting. Originally we thought that the tour would be conducted by a tour guide, but an actual steam developer was able to give the tour. The place was pretty big, about 3-4 floors in total. One thing to keep in mind is before the tour started the developer clearly stated he was not allowed to talk about any future projects, and when I asked about anything to do with gambling or skins, he shied away from it and joked that he needed an attorney to answer. Here are the questions I asked, and the answer the developer gave. How do they delegate their workforce around different games that require constant attention, and how do they determine the workload of each?
How big is the R&D team? What would be the brainstorming/flowchart for new games/ideas they decide to bring into existence?
What do you think of the subreddit r/globaloffensive? Other communities that your games have created? How often do developers monitor community feedback?
How does the recruitment process work/interns?
For example the guy who gave us the tour had 20 years experience at Microsoft before being hired by Valve. Is Steam having 100% uptime a goal of the future? Why Tuesday at 4PST to conduct maintenance?
Overall, it was really cool going there, and I learned a lot about the company. The most important thing that I thought was really interesting and that no one really knew previously is that there is not a set number of people assigned to work on each game. I would love to share more in the comments, if you want to know something specific, just ask! Oh and good thing I didn't ask about an operation right? Lmao PROOF: http://imgur.com/a/3cEGI EDIT: Something that I feel is really cool to point out is how important Valve's community is to them. It may not seem like it because of their company model of the "lips sealed" sort of deal, but on every floor there were entire walls filled with letters people have sent them, things people have created, gifts that they have received. I wish I could've got a picture but they said no pictures unless they said we could take some. | Posted: 23 May 2017 06:50 AM PDT Hello again /r/globaloffensive! You may remember my last post from a month ago it was during the same day as the "1 tap into smoke, sure" post. We had RECORD attendance of 50 attendees at the CSGO LAN, filmed an epic hype video and have a photo album up.I hope you check them out! Of course, I give you all a shout out, because these events wouldn't be possible without your support. I am very hyped to be bringing the second of what I hope will be a monthly event for the NYC scene. It is set for NEXT Saturday, June 3rd, and will be from 11:30am-5:30pm. As with last event, this event does NOT have a prize pool though we are looking to have competitive events in the future! Here's photos of the awesome space where we'll be hanging out! As is tradition, I will do my best to reply to any & every comment. So AMA! Also feel free to to ask me any questions in our Facebook messenger chat room aka fambase.
The LAN starts at noon on Saturday - its a Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) event - hosted at Verizon's HQ. Come as a team or solo - it doesn't matter, we are just bringing the community together for some good times! We're structuring it as a round robin tournament, but it is really about hanging out and meeting the Community! Feel free to ask me any questions. Come alone or bring a few friends :)
Here is a hype video that pretty much sums up what we're about and shows off our venue! Red Bull delivered to your seat as you set up. Enjoy included coffee, tea and beverages. Midday refuel on included Whole Foods catering to power 5 epic hours of gaming. We're all about immersing you in the gaming Community.
Entry $30** online. Buy your ticket online - we have room for 16 teams.(You can sign up here.)
We usually have about a dozen dedicated folks helping to make things happen. We're already full for this coming event, but let us know if you want to volunteer for a future event at chris@fambase.com or message me in our Facebook Messenger chat room
** We dont want to be charging $30 per person and are working out a way to reduce the cost or gain sponsorship. As it stands, we are currently even going to lose money @ $30 per person, but hopefully can get Verizon to lessen / reduce the venue fees or have other sponsors help fund these awesome events. The rent by itself is already more than $30 per person, FYI. For this event we are partnering with the following amazing NYC-based start-ups: [link] [comments] | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Why I am frustrated by Flipsid3: Their struggles and potential Posted: 23 May 2017 01:18 PM PDT Flipsid3 was always known as the discount Na'Vi during the time of Zeus and Starix's slow, methodical system. Featuring similar lineups in terms of player archetypes and playstyles, Flipsid3 has worked with lesser firepower and yet still remained somewhat relevant in the international scene, earning their in-game leader Blade acclaim by many members of the pro community. However, their team has remained stagnant and uninspiring. What is going wrong? Player Effectiveness: Although s1mple found great success on the team, being used as the explosive superstar he is, since his departure the team has slowly fallen asleep, playing intensely slowly. WorldEdit has been used as a Guardian of the team, being set up for a pick to open up the defense before a late-round execute- but the slow style is failing them. When WayLander joined the team, he added a slight explosive edge to the team in terms of early round aggression during the default stage of the Terrorist side, but he as well has grown more passive. Markeloff, the 1.6 legend, slowly fell off from early CSGO form as he joined Astana Dragons, the team that would slowly branch off into a core that has played in and around DaT Team and other Blad3 teams as CIS shuffles took place. Joining the slow teams of Astana, Hellraisers, and DaT/Flipsid3, Markeloff's explosive nature and high tempo rifling (not to mention AWP play) have fallen by the wayside. Take his resurgent form at the majors for example- Cologne 2016 saw an upset over NiP and a close game against the dominant side of SK with good performances from Markeloff and WayLander. ELeague was a travesty for the team, sending them out 0-3 in maps- Overpass vs Liquid in particular shows Markeloff playing well, keeping them in the game. The marathon game between Mouz and F3 at Columbus was kept close by Markeloff once again going nuclear, dropping a monster 1.26 rating and 100 ADR with key performances on the T side, opening up drop with explosive play. WayLander succeeds in similar situations- chaotic, fast rounds where he is allowed to multifrag and play aggressively. Electronic, the new man on the team, has performed well (especially showing fantastic pistol play). Having demonstrated himself to be effective both in aggressive play and late rounds with some clutch play, Electronic seems to play well within the current system. Blad3 has shown himself to be a terrible fragger; although occasionally he will show up in big overtime matches F3 seems to find themselves in whenever they go to LAN, he is overall a terrible fragger. This begs the question- what does he bring to the team? Are his tactical contributions adequate compensation for his abysmal fragging? Tactical Structure: Flipsid3 has always run a slow system, similar to the classical Na'Vi style- setting up an AWPer, having a stable secondary star (shown at times to be either Flamie in the later stages of Na'Vi or Edward, who for some time held the crown of highest rated CIS player at the Majors) in Bondik and now Electronic. Playing slowly, with a default stage in which they wait for CT utility to be expended and aggression to be shown, Flipsid3 has played the same way for years. In an interview with Thorin, Ceh9 comments that Blad3 has called the same way for years upon years- and he has. Time and time again, their executions are easily read and their plans fall short. Without using aggression to change the pace of the game, the opponent can adapt to the Flipsid3 team and refuse to use as much utility as they otherwise might have to. Their terrorist sides never give CTs playing rotator positions a cause to rotate away from the site, meaning the sites that are hit are almost always at full strength with plenty of utility to use. Their play is stagnant and unimpressive, with their only major results and solid play against top teams on LAN coming from monster performances from individuals when they play within their comfort zones. Why has Blad3 never adapted? Why has he never noted Markeloff's ability to blast open key areas of the map such as Cobble's drop, Train's Ivy, and Mirage's connector? Why has he stopped having WayLander play aggressively, executing quickly into outside on Train and letting him play aggro deep in the site for example? Flipsid3 has always been known as a team with insufficient firepower, but it is my contention that they have untapped potential lurking under the surface. Perhaps the next major qualifier will show them playing a fresh take on their classic style- we just have to wait and see. | My latest match making game restored my faith in humanity. Posted: 23 May 2017 02:48 PM PDT It began as a normal, everyday match. We began determined, a premade of 5, confident enough that we'll absolutely wreck the opponent. Little did we know that our fate was in the hands of a mere Master Guardian 2 slowly figuring his way through the match on the opposite teams. We were a team of LEs and DMGs, pretending to be Na'Vi and Fnatic, using our insanely complex strategies and smokes, that too on Dust 2. We began on the CT side, even though we lost the pistol and the two rounds that followed, we went into the gun round with our heads held high. I sat away in pit, focused on holding the angle. And then he peeked, right at me, with an awp. I knew at that time, I was a goner. But how did he know? Exactly where to peek? I got suspicious. We decided to focus on our own game and somehow got our momentum going. We held our ground, determined, in a state of do or die and oh did we coordinate. We rekt them 10-5 in the first half. They didn't deserve for rekt but we did. But then the sides switched. And he unleashed. Pushing everywhere, knowing exactly when to peek, where to peek, wrecking us this time. 4 kills, 5 kills every round. We still managed to get the score to 14-14 by pulling off insane clutches. The opposite team's score had the man with 47 frags and the remaining getting carried. We checked profiles, the steroids guy was with a friend, so there was no way they could kick even if they wanted to. We took a timeout, we prayed, we gave each other speeches and decided to put our best into the upcoming two rounds. But when the round began, something amazing happened. The Master Guardian 2 had been waiting all along for this moment to shine. And boy did he shine. The round began. All of us nervous, focusing on angles, where would he push this time? And then we heard the shot. We wondered which of our brothers fell this time. But then we saw the kill feed. The Master Guardian 2 had killed the hacker. He had done it. He had awp'd him. We rejoiced. We shouted in delight. We screamed. Then we rushed B. We held our ground and we held that site like our life depended on it. And we pulled it off. The score finally 15-14. In our favour. We had made our minds, we were going to win this game. Even if the Master Guardian 2 didn't want to shine the final round. But he did. He had no awp, but he sacrificed himself. When the timer started counting down the following round, he started shooting, and he shot and shot like a brave man till the hacker fell. He fell along with him, kicked by Gaben, but he gave us one last gift - The Game.
