[BoTW] TIL while wearing the dark link armour, NPC's react to you like a monster.

No picture because it'd be easy to fake by hitting an npc anyway so it'd prove nothing.

Can somebody tell me if this triangle has any significance? I've sunk 200 hours into the game and figured it'd pop up in a side quest or something at some point. It stands out too much to be nothing. It's the triangle of logs just north of Thundra Plateau, in case you couldn't tell.

[BoTW] It baffles me when people say that calamity ganon was disappointing as a villain, then compare him to ganondorf to support their argument [spoilers]

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 12:49 AM PDT

Ganondorf is a person, ganon is a force of evil, the two are distinctly separate characters that work in coordination with one another, play off one another, but they aren't the same person just because they have a similar name. something i still think is very confounding is how ganondorf is being compared to calamity ganon in this way, as though they're the same guy, and how, because ganondorf was so great in wind waker, ganon should have been great too!!

answer me this, IN WHAT CONTEXTS HAVE WE EVER SEEN GANON?!?!

we see GANON in the oracle series, what are his first words to the hero? i'll just quote here "GWA-HA-HA!! GWO-HO-HO!!! I AM GANON!! THE DEMON KING!!" then the fight starts.

what does ganon say in ocarina of time? he doesn't. he hisses like a pissed off snake and proceeds to angrily swing his swords around. what does ganon say that is of any significance in wind waker? again, he doesn't...because he's just a puppet!!

ganon, in the entire series, has typically been a single-minded force of nature, it's literally ganondorf's demonic power, but it DOES have its own personality, a simple, hate-filled personality. it's stupid, incredibly stup- no i can't even say that, it can BE clever, but ganon as a character is very single-minded and tends to never think, never be introspective, it's a sentient curse, nothing more. hell ganondorf the person gives it more personality in oracle and WW just because he's literally speaking through it in WW and it's using what's left of his broken mind to communicate that basic sentence in oracle, never in the entire series has ganon the force of nature ever been given much in the way of actual screen time. that's always been ganondorf they've shown.

in wind waker's backstory we see that ganondorf successfully conquered hyrule....what happens when he does? ganon takes the helm, probably surprising ganondorf.

it's implied, given his treatment of the thing in wind waker, that this shook ganondorf considerably when he recovered, but what happened ultimately boiled down to- ganondorf took over hyrule, ganon went berserk and started killing everyone and everything using ganondorf's body because that's what it does, its entire purpose is to destroy hyrule, something i'm not sure ganondorf was ever aware of. the whole reason ganondorf controls legions of demons and moblins is because he's united with ganon, using ganon's own powers, he can control and resurrect these minions whenever he damned well pleases, but he's not the demon king, ganon is, or rather, the two of them together are.

so what happened after WW's opening? ganondorf, after taking some time to reflect, does his level best to bind ganon and use his power without having to run the risk of ever being possessed by it again, he literally DOMINATES ganon and turns it into a puppet, and through this puppet in wind waker he continues like he always has, this speaks VOLUMES about who's really in charge in this relationship, ganon may be the antagonist, but he doesn't have the will to defy his own vessel, ganondorf ultimately makes ganon pay for ruining his dream by tying its hands behind its back and forcing it to play nice. do you ever wonder why the final battle in WW never had a big scary transformation? that's because when we defeat puppet ganon, WE DEFEAT GANON FOR GOOD, ganondorf is, ironically, freed from his own curse in wind waker, hence why the sequels have a different demon king, ganon the force of nature most likely dies in wind waker, followed shortly by ganondorf. maybe it comes back, idk, but the reason we never see ganondorf transform is because we kill the thing that causes his transformation in wind waker.

breath of the wild is very different ( i assume it's post twilight princess, but i can't rule anything out) in breath of the wild ganon, not ganondorf, has been assaulting hyrule repeatedly for centuries, it's just a pissed off boar looking to fulfill its purpose, but without a vessel to reincarnate into, it can't do it because it needs a tactful mind, the mind of a gerudo, or even a hylian, but it requires a vessel to manage the feat. in breath of the wild it's ganon, the demon king and curse that demise laid on hyrule, that we're fighting. what can ganon do? ganon can:

A: be crafty, clever even, i mean it's based on a pig, one of the more intelligent mammals in the animal kingdom, so of course it's going to be clever, it possesses the guardians and basically hijacks hyrule's incredibly dangerous defense system.

B: manage the demonspawn, it resurrects them routinely to ensure they never die and continue to plague the land, and while it never seems to issue orders, it clearly controls or at least supervises them from a distance.

C: wreck shit, ganon the force of nature is dangerous, even without the triforce of power it alone is a force to be reckoned with. it's adaptable and difficult to injure normally.

Ganon has never truly been explored as a character, it's almost always been ganondorf at the forefront, gerudo king ganondorf, ganondorf the thief, ganondorf the badass. we never see ganon because ganon has always been something of a subordinate to ganondorf, a sort of business partner that supplies him with an army of demons ALA demon king privileges (likely this ability to control ganon's power was granted to him by twinrova when he was young) a lot of ganondorf's magic comes from ganon, but ganon himself has never been fully explored until breath of the wild. in breath of the wild we see that ganon alone is still a considerable threat, we also see that for whatever reasons, ganon is desperate to find a vessel to reincarnate into. why? we don't really know, but that's apparently a very important detail, ganon wants a vessel, badly. and it's willing to go to incredible lengths to make one if it can. maybe it's more vulnerable without a body like ganondorf, maybe not.

so the next time you think to yourself "wow ganon is a bad character, i wish he was more like he was in wind-waker" please slap yourself, because ganon in wind waker was a fucking puppet. ganondorf and ganon aren't the same person (admittedly, their relationship is really weird to begin with so it's not exactly easy to tell them apart when they're treated synonymously) ganon, not ganondorf, is the big bad in breath of the wild. and it's nice to see that he's getting his own game where he can do his thing. but too many people are comparing him to ganondorf without really knowing why that comparison doesn't work.

EDIT: To summarize my point, Breath of the Wild's main antagonist is ganon, and breath of the wild is one of the few times we've ever actually had GANON not ganondorf, be the central antagonist of the games. It's usually been ganondorf who then turns into ganon, a failed resurrection of ganondorf largely piloted by ganon, or ganon in the much older series doing his traditionally evil thing. hell even in a link to the past GANONDORF was a central antagonist. but BoTW is one of the few times it's been just ganon.

What is the limit of how technologically advanced the setting should be in Zelda games?

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 01:20 AM PDT

Breath of the Wild started to mess about with some techy vibes, should they push it further or keep it to a minimum?

I'm not talking sci-fi, we've got Metroid for that (even though it hasn't got much attention as of late) but maybe it would be pretty cool if they had a semi-steampunk thing going on? Should they make an older Link?

Can't retrieve Star Fragment...

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 03:51 AM PDT

I've attempted to farm my first 3 fragments off a farming method I found on YouTube. The method works getting the comet to fall, but as I approach the light beacon like I'm supposed to, the beacon just fades away with no star fragment to reward... It's super depressing.

I've come across glitches before where an item (sword or shield ect.) would fall through the ground, maybe that's what's happening? Hoping someone has an answer, thanks for reading
