[Discussion] Anyone Else Think That Some of the Gen 2 Rarities Don't Make Sense?

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 05:43 AM PDT

For most of the game, I have agreed with the consistency with the game's spawn rates and catch rates reflecting those of the GB titles. I especially like little touches, like how Abra isn't nevessarily common, but also runs from the first ball. Way to stick to the canon material, A+. However, I get the feeling that some of the Gen 2 pokémon spawn rates just don't make sense:

Natu: Back in the day of Gold/Silver version, there was only a single patch of grass in the entire game where these could be found. Natu/Zatu were seen as somewhat rare, and frankly, I think their current spawn rate devalues them (they are like the new Spearow).

Dunsparce: If Niantic was trying to stick with the core series, they failed miserably with this one. Dunsparce could only be found in a single cave, and a player could circle around for days without seeing a single one. Now, it appears they spawn quite frequently in nests in PoGo. For a pokémon that even has the word "sparse" in its name, I'm a little surprised by how common it is in certain areas.

Unown: As interesting as it is that the Unown are the rarest in the game, and they are almost like anomalies. Despite this design choice, there just is no reason for it to be a 1/16,000,000 spawn chance - especially if there are 26 (eventually 28) varieties. Based on the actual game series, Unown seems like more of a nest pokémon than, say, Dunsparce should be.

EDIT:

Mareep: I'll be honest, I forgot all about this one. It's stunning how something that is so coveted by so many people is rare just for the sake of being rare. They have even referenced it on the Niantic Twitter page, asking people in a tongue-in-cheek manor if they have ever seen a wild Mareep before. Granted, Mareep/Flaafy/Amphros were never my favorites, but for the sake of pokédex conpletion, I find it frustrating how strangely scarce they are.

Murkrow: I find it strange how common Murkrow is. Sure, it is sort of interesting as an addition to the endless Sentret and Spinarak horde, but it just seems a bit forced. Murkrow wasn't even that common in the GB games - in fact, I'm not sure if I ever saw one outside of trainer battles.

Personally, my favorite Gen 2 pokémon was Xatu, and now it is extremely undervalued due to how common Natu is. Anyone else a little put off by how common/rare certain things are?

Proof that there are spawning problems for people that don't live in big cities... (I'm level 21 by the way)

Dear Niantic....

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 02:06 AM PDT

This game could be so great, and it was to begin with. I was still enjoying it, despite it's problems when many had put the game down. It has just become a joke now. Yes it is a 'free' game but I WAS still spending money on it every payday. The game has two halves, collecting and battling, they go hand in hand. Everyone accepts the gym battle part was broken and we are waiting for a rework. It could still be fun though, but not any more. At least where I live all of the gyms are dominated by spoofers. Who sit there day after day collecting free coins with their spoof caught mon. I have been playing for nine months now and the spoof problem has now reached epic proportions. Genuine players don't stand a chance, everything about this game currently favours and rewards cheating. I don't even bother with gyms anymore and in fact I would be happier if they just removed them entirely until something better could be introduced because the imbalance just grows bigger and bigger everyday. At the very least remove the pokecoin reward. Why should we exchange cash for pokecoins when spoofers earn them daily for free? They have all the data, gym histories, pokemon caught locations. I know it's a very large set but they really need to bring in a system to datamine and detect and ban these people, I don't mean a soft ban either. Permanent or reset their XP level and confiscate the mon. As has mentioned before it is really boring to see level 10 gyms all stacked out with the same few pokemon. There are several 'types' of pokemon so why not limit each gym to only one per type?

I am struggling to stay interested because all I do now is collect, I don't buy pokecoins, I don't use the shop. I never caught anything great with either lures or incense, and egg hatching.... I spend money on incubators to hatch what I can already catch?? Apart from the very rare 10km pleasant surprise. I will stick with the infinite incubator and just accept it's slower but at least I am not wasting my money. Even collecting is getting dull in the absence of an event and I feel the events are the only thing keeping it above water for many now. If there are a significant number of other players feeling like I do then this game is facing a major problem. I feel this is a legitimate gripe and it bothers me that I feel so bad about it that I have to come here and rant about it. Please make it great again and fix the issues, I can live with faulty UI, minor text errors and even gamecrash errors. The biggest problem for me is the spoofers, botters and how they are using gyms. It is no fun anymore.

edit Just checked my google play receipts for my purchases from Niantic. Over £200 in 9 months. Pokecoin real world value increased December-January. I also walked a good Lapras over a 100km to get candy(real work by myself), then they nerfed it.

(Question) Anyone else have a problem with listening to music while playing?

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 05:02 AM PDT

I almost always am listening to music when playing this game. Either with headphones or on some bluetooth device. But whenever i load up PokemonGo the music volume is cut in half, and becomes very quiet. The fix for it is to skip the current song and the volume will return to normal but if my phone were to lock or if i were to turn on battery saver, the volume is cut again. Anyone else encounter this or have a fix for it? Thanks

My next target is going to be finding an Unown, but I can't see that happening any time soon. Completing my Pokedex is still another task ahead of me as well, seeing as I've only got 199 so far.

[Idea] Ability to "switch" pokemon inbetween battles

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 08:11 AM PDT

Similar to actual pokemon, I think it would be a good idea to ask to switch before the next pokemon to come in.

Countless times I have lost pokemon I won with 1 HP, only to have the next pokemon kill it immediately.

Origins of Pokémon names (Generation 1)?

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 10:56 AM PDT

Some of the names of the Pokémon in Gen 1 seem pretty obvious (Seel is a seal), while others are more cryptic (Nidoran?). Here's a partial list based on what seems obvious to me, but it leaves a lot of holes. Any ideas on the ones I'm missing? (also correct any that I'm way off base) I'm just going by all the entries in my Pokédex:

  1. Bulbasaur - "saur" from the Greek "sauros", meaning lizard (it's where we get dinosaur). This is a lizard that has a flower bulb on its back.

[Complaint] People with multiple accounts aren't breaking the rules, but it sucks

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 07:53 AM PDT

Recently I started taking gyms over again. It seems like team Mystic all either stopped playing or got banned for spoofing but my neighborhood went from all blue to all red shortly after gen 2 came out. But what happens now is that someone with a red account and a blue/yellow account come along, knock the lowest pokemon out of the lv10 gyms and and replace it with there red account.

Happened 3 times in the neighborhood in the same day. Now at work a gym got taken by Yellow and leveled up to level 6(with only 3 pokemon in it) but with a cp 48 gastly at the bottom with the name(similar to): "KnockMeOut" obviously someone's second account(level 10) that they use to power up a gym without having to waste their spot in the game.

Neither of these things are cheating or breaking the rules(at least that IK) but it sure makes playing with just one account kinda shitty. Now I lost my spot in 3 level 10 valor gyms and it doesn't seem like anyone will take down the gyms for awhile. So unless I make a second account I can't get into any of them either.

[Discussion] All pokémon from eggs should have the same hatching probability

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 06:15 AM PDT

Now there are currently 79 pokemon you can get from eggs. I see many posts here complaining about some pokemon coming from 10km eggs but this is not the main problem. The real issue is pokemon having different probabilities of hatching from eggs making some common and others super rares. With 79 different hatchable pokemon from eggs with the same probability you would still have only less than 1.5% chances of getting a Snorlax. Now for the most rarer pokemon you have 1/315 chances of getting them acording to silph road research. So on average it costs more than 100 incubators to get a specific super rare pokemon which is 100$ in pokecoins. I mean, seriously? Isn't 1/79 enough for the super rares? The point of eggs shouldn't be having a chance of getting rare stuff that you can't find in the wild? Why then we keep on getting paras and goldeen all the time? The even lower chances after gen2 of getting rare stuff is such a weak incentive for keep on buying incubators... So why dont make all hatches random? At least then I'll not complain of getting another krabby as I know it will have the same chances as a mareep.

[Idea] Little Cup

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 11:53 AM PDT

http://i.imgur.com/3uhwofo.jpg

This is a very simple idea, but it will do wonders for Gym variety pretty much doubling the amount of usable mons.

Did you know what Pokémon like Magnemite learn completely different moves than it's evolutions like ThunderBolt? A little cup is a Gym but that only allows first forms of pokemon with some restrictions (Chansey and Scyther can't enter). And I believe it can have great positive results.

1-Doubles the space of any gym to 20 Max rather than 10

2-Gyms can be two colors with possible bonus if both gyms are the same one, incentivizing battles.

3-Will give weaker pokemon/currently non evolve a chance to shine. Like Tentacool being a tank and Sneazel a god.

4-Can use your favorites straight from the egg, making some mons useful from the start. (some moves like Brine/bubblebeam are even exclusive to babies)

5- It's just cute
