Heroes of the Storm - Reminder: Rule 2 and Heroes 2.0

Reminder: Rule 2 and Heroes 2.0

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 10:35 AM PDT

Hey all. We understand that right now people feel passionately one way or the other about the upcoming 2.0 changes. Whatever your opinion on the subject is that is completely OK.

What isn't OK is the massive negativity toward other users. We've been warning users making direct insults to specific users, but we are also seeing general insults about a generalized group (ex: "the people on this sub" or "those upset/happy about 2.0) that are also not OK.

So please do not call other users (specifically or in the abstract): entitled, snowflakes, whiners, greedy, lazy, or really anything insulting.

There have already been a number of posts and comments that violate the above that are talking about users in general and not specific users. However moving forward those posts and comments will be removed. We want this to be a welcoming community no matter your opinion on the 2.0 changes. You can make posts that critique or praise the changes (that follow all other rules), just don't insult groups of people.

Finally, if someone else is violating the rules, rather than responding in an insulting manner and violating the rules yourself, just report the person and move on without engaging further.

Remember folks: Attack the arguments, not the user(s), even in the abstract.

Heroes 2.0 Veteran Chest System Update [Official]

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 11:13 AM PDT

Shout out to the devs for the updated veteran rewards!

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 12:37 PM PDT

Not sure if it's been done, or if it's allowed. But I just wanted to thank the devs for their constant reception to feedback from the community! A lot of people were upset with the original veteran awards, and you've not only listened to the community, but come up with an exceptional compromise! You guys are what makes this game so great! Keep it up!

Edit: Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone! Since this is getting more exposure than I expected and I've been answering lots of questions I figured I'd add a little FAQ.

How do player levels work?

Player level = Total Hero level - 1 per hero.

Since each hero starts at level 1 you have to subtract 1 level per hero from the sum of all your heroes level to get the player level. So if you have every hero level 10 you're hero level would be 576 (640-64)

Do epic chests still have epic item guarantee if you reroll, and will this be implemented for the legendary chest.

Yes! All chest are guaranteed one item of the chests rarity, this includes rerolls! However, if you get two items of a equal or greater rarity, there is no guarantee if you reroll either of those items, meaning you may end up with a common and only one item of chest rarity.

Now that ranged heroes don't have the same attack range by default, Raynor's trait seems lackluster.

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 12:32 PM PDT

In the past the extra range of Raynor was a nice thing, because all heroes had the same 5.5 range.

But now with Ranged heroes having totally diferent attack ranges without beeing part of their traits, Raynor wouldn't need a trait that only increases his range, it could just be their like other heroes that have lesser range.

Blizz, give an interesting trait to Raynor.

SEL and the death of NA HOTS

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 02:16 PM PDT

In 2016 TigerJK and his friends started a private league for HOTS called S.E.L. or "Storm Elite League." The league was formed with the idea that the Hero League ladder wasn't good enough for these players and that they should play amongst themselves for better games. The league quickly became known however as the Salty Ego League as internal fighting among players quickly lead to the league losing players and unable to make games.

The death of SEL began to show a troublesome trend in NA HOTS, that high level players were not open to playing with new players and the scene soon became stratified between the haves and the have nots. This sentiment lead to the rise of the PPL. Panda Global a well known E Sports organization began their own league open to all GM players based on the SEL format. The league began as a huge success with three running games at almost all hours of the day and over 200 registered players. Many players who had little to no professional hots experience were able to shine, make connections and learn how to play with comms. Some of the names who finished in the top ten were,

  • Kure: Now best player on #1 rated Heroes of The Dorm team.
  • Insomnia, Danski, Nazmas and ZugRug: Now on impressive pro team Team Freedom
  • Yoda: Now pro ranged assassin on Team 8
  • Yuuj: GFE coach and Top Dorm player.

However, this amazing period of NA development was short lived. The same established pro players and SEL members began to complain about having to play with players who weren't their friends. They managed to change the matchmaking to "Captain Draft" where pro players would essentially pick their friends and team members leaving semi pro and amateur players to be the last ones picked if picked at all. The SEL group of pro players and their friends would try to "instant queue" a practice of forming instant games that wouldn't give any time for other players outside of their private discord from joining. These pro players began contacting the admins to have players they didn't like removed from the league. This lead to the semi pro players and amateur players feeling disrespected and unable to find games. PPL was dead shorty after.

With the beginning of the 2017 HGC Season Tiger JK and his friends saw a opportunity to start their small SEL league again. Their requirement was initially that only pro team players could play. However soon after they began letting their personal friends into the league to play. Juuki, DarkChimera, Kure were allowed while players like Azgaz, Mewnfarez were refused entry. This brought us right back to where we were in the beginning where a few players controlled who and who could not play.

NA HOTS is currently the worst region of pro competition in the world. Even Australia with vastly smaller player base out performed them at HGC western clash. NA HOTS has fallen from the dominant force that beat Koreans and won Blizzcon to a region that can't even win a map off its competitors. If we look at KR or EU regions we do not see these kinds of leagues that create division and bread exclusion. We do not see pro players who feel they are too good to play with others. In short what plagues the NA scene is a monopoly on the experience of playing competitively. NA pros have sought to exclude others and monopolize gameplay within their region thus securing their spot in HGC and keeping others out. The few times that they have been inclusive and open to playing with others NA has thrived with new talent being discovered such as Team 8 and Team Freedom. If this problem will ever end NA players must stop excluding others from their leagues or play HL like the other regions. They must stop monopolizing the experience of pro play. Blizzard should put an end to SEL by prohibiting their players from playing in it until something is done. If not, NA HOTS will continue to suffer.

Blizzard Beats "Cheat" Maker, Wins $8.5 Million Copyright Damages

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 05:37 AM PDT

My experience with the game so far.

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 07:27 AM PDT

Before I begin this isn't a which game is better rant, just my own personal experience. So I've been playing Dota/Dota 2 and LOL for years now and I got to the point where neither was fun anymore. I tried out smite and that was fun for about 2 days and then I went back to LOL. My friend told me to try HOTS, which at the time I considered being a very simple LOL clone. Well after another month of LOL and the horrid community I finally installed HOTS last week.

First of all I connected much more with this games characters immediately (been playing blizzard games forever now). I played as Jiana for my first pick and was surprised to see that there was no last hitting. At first I wasn't feeling it but after a couple of games and getting the hang of mounts, how the lanes worked, early team fights and talents instead of items, I started playing with a big smile on my face. For the first time in a year I was actually enjoying playing a MOBA and not just playing it for the sake of playing it.

I seriously can't get enough of this game right now, I don't know how to describe it but it's just such a joy to learn new maps instead of just one. Playing different heroes actually feel different and Murky is one of the most unique heroes I've ever played. So far I know this is the Honeymoon stage but I'm really liking what I'm playing right now also the toxic levels here seem to be much lower, also... it's awesome that you need to be a team to win and not just have one person carry.

April Fool's In Development Behind the Scenes (Talandar, Co-op Missions, and More!)

Remember when Overwatch community did the thing with cookies for the devs?We should do the same!!

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 01:40 PM PDT

I dont exactly remember what happend back then, i think it was something with the Mei chirstmas skin when the people complained a lot about it and the devs said sorry for it. They didint need to, the community felt bad and send them some cookies because the devs really deserved some love after they worked so hard on that game and some people still complained. I FEEL WE SHOULD DO THE SAME or at least something like that this update is really awesome and idk i think some people complain too much, they listened to us they did the veteran loot chest, they worked a lot for this update, i think we should send them some love. I dont really know how to organize this but for sure there are people who can, an kickstarter or something to send them something nice to show some love. What do you think?

Cassia feedback from a nobody

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 05:03 PM PDT

Just some random thoughts:

Her blind should do 1 damage. This is so she can dismount people and hit things like Zagara's creep tumors, or Aba's mines.

Plate of the Whale should give hp regen when mounted. This seems obvious. You shouldn't have to choose between mounting and regen when rotating.

Her AA animation is slightly too long. But only slightly. She is the premier stutter-stepper. Let's tighten this up.

March 28th Patch - 7 Days Later

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 01:47 PM PDT

Previously on Reddit....

Back again! The last post got somewhat buried in the flurry of Heroes 2.0 discussion, and this one will likely be buried as well since there's still a lot of discussion about that topic. But I figured I should still do the standard follow-up, as I have been in the past, for the handful of folks who want to see it.

Disclaimer (please read!):

The number of games played for 3/30 and 4/4 are screwed up due to the hotfix patch on 3/30. As a result, most of the games for 3/30 were temporarily lost as Hotslogs had already turned over to the new patch. I wasn't able to track the actual number of games played on 3/30 until now, as it's been a full 7 days. So 4/4 contains both the games played on 4/4 as well as the games I missed on 3/30, thus the larger numbers. And as usual, keep in mind that my numbers will differ slightly from Hotslogs's "official" figures as the site regularly updates older information as more games are added, so we won't have a perfect match.

Anyways, here's what we're looking at:

Arthas: 50.8% (-2.4% in the last 7 days)

Cho (Team League): 55.5% (+7.1% in the last 7 days)

Gall (Team League): 56.1% (+6.8% in the last 7 days)

Leoric: 49.4% (+3.5% in the last 7 days)

Murky: 52.4% (+0.9% in the last 7 days)

Probius: 53% (+6.2% in the last 7 days)

Ragnaros: 49.2% (-1.7% in the last 7 days)

Tassadar: 45.3% (-5.3% in the last 7 days)

Tychus: 49.3% (2.8% in the last 7 days)

Varian: 49.5% (+1.9% in the last 7 days)

Here is a link to the spreadsheet with the data I've collected.

Initial evaluations:

1) This patch seems to be just what the doctor ordered, in many cases. Arthas's win rate has trended down to a slightly more appropriate level, Cho and Gall are back on the rise in Team League, and several heroes who needed a boost (Leoric, Probius, Tychus, and Varian) all saw favorable gains.

2) Ragnaros has actually dropped off in popularity over the last few weeks, so in addition to his slight drop in win rate, this is also a positive change.

3) The one net negative (though some may argue otherwise) is that Tassadar seems to have taken a rather shocking hit to his win rate. The guilty party, it seems, is Khaydarin Resonance: it has climbed in use about 12% from where it sat before the March 28th patch, but it remains the lowest win rate talent in that tier at a dismal 40%. As a result, its overuse in Hero League likely accounts for most of the subsequent drop in win rate, rather than any of the other changes to his kit. It remains to be seen how Blizzard will respond to this decline, if at all, but one thing is for sure: the devs just can't seem to get this talent to work out well for poor Tass.

Looking ahead: As a new patch has come out today, I would usually do a full analysis of the results from this patch over the next week. However, I'm not really seeing much of a point. There are only two heroes worth recording: Cassia (the newbie) and E.T.C., so I may just take a break for this patch and wait until the next big balance patch to cook up my next spreadsheet. Hopefully you'll all let me off the hook just this once. :)

Also, in response to requests from some individuals, I'm currently working on a "larger" project along these same lines, but covering a longer time period and a lot more raw data. I won't get into details just yet, since I have yet to finish it and don't want to make any promises, but I'm pretty excited about it and looking forward to showing it off when it's ready! My hope is to have it ready some time in the summer. Until then, I'll see you all again when the next big balance patch hits!

The Next Leoric skin I want

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 07:52 AM PDT

I put together a King Leoric skin, photoshopped together from various images. I gave him the Diablo 3 Grandfather for a sword, because it was large enough to imitate his mace, and because he was portrayed in Diablo 1 wielding a sword, and it's been present in the game Since D1 (Albeit not a skeleton king drop). Also, swords are cool.

I kinda want to do more of these photoshops, I'm really happy how this one turned out - if you have ideas, I'd love to hear them!

[Petition] Give Catapults MVP

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 12:28 PM PDT

Sometimes you are in a game where you got the enemy core down to 10% then you get your team killed and the enemy tam rushes to your core while you frantically panic that you wont have to time resurrect to defend, but you do and you are fighting to defend your core, like it is the last time you will see the day of light then...BOOM. VICTORY. Your catapults won the game.

Why can't we get Catapults as the MVP when they clearly, sometimes, oftentimes, are the TRUE MVP?

As the roster continues to expand, in order for HL to remain a balanced and fun competitive game mode, we NEED hero swapping.

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 08:45 AM PDT

Being first pick in League of Legends, a game in which I was a support main, never gave me any anxiety. This even in spite of the fact that supports were fairly low impact picks. Why? Because I knew that SOMEONE on my team would love to have first pick instead, and I could pick it for them and trade them that hero after the draft.

How many times have you been first pick on a map where Rag or Sylv are borderline broken, one of them is available, but you either don't own them or never play them, and thus are forced to give the pick to the enemy team? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to say, "can anyone play X, and I'll swap you?"

We NEED this in HotS. HotS competitive games, more than any other MOBA I've ever played, seem to be decided in the draft phase. In a game with many hard counter heroes, it would be nice if we could pick our heroes for each other and trade later in order to secure a better team draft.

"But vanilla_disco, that just opens up more avenues to trolling!"

I disagree. If anything, it puts more emphasis on teamwork earlier on and encourages communication. In all my many, many years of different MOBAs, I can only recall a couple of times when someone screwed me with a trade.

The technology is there. The tournament mode games use this. This is something HL badly needs, and virtually every other MOBA implements this.

I'd love to hear from a blue on this topic.

Minor complaint on the revamped UI

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 02:02 PM PDT

I love the new UI we got now, but there's one small thing that is really annoying. When a teammate dies, we can't see their Heroic cooldown on the top bar..

This should be pretty easy to fix, so please Blizzard, fix this asap

Cheers

Bug or oversight, Anubarak announcer pack voice lacks any filters or effects, sounds just like a normal human voice.

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 11:21 AM PDT

The VO for the Anubarak announcer pack is just a normal human voice, it has absolutely no effects, filters or synth.

I suspect the layering of the filters is separate so they can easily convert one voice to another, like normal Xul to scarecrow Xul or normal KT to robo KT.

If you listen to the Anubarak announcer pack, it sounds completely just like a human speaking, it does not sound like Anub at all. It is very easy to notice if you check it out. It is just the voice actors voice.

I hope they go back and add the proper effects to this announcer pack!

Sales in 2.0 - clues from the PTR

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 08:14 PM PDT

So we know "featured items" in 2.0 are going to be the new version of the current sales, where we can get heroes and skins for discounts. It will also be an opportunity to buy items for gems instead of rolling them in booty coffers or forging them with shards.

In my collections featured tab, I currently have:

Skins

Cassia pirate tints (rare: 100 shards each, no gem option)

Shadow Mystic Kingdoms Arthas (legendary: 1600 shards, 400 gems)

Neon War Sgt Hammer (epic: 400 shards, 330 gems)

Cave Lurkablo (epic: 400 shards, 330 gems)

Earthen Frostlord Rexxar (rare: 100 shards, 250 gems)

Ghostlands Ranger General Sylvanas (rare: 100 shards, 165 gems)

Saffron Jaina (rare: 100 shards, 100 gems)

Mounts

Amber Spectre (1600 shards, 400 gems)

Drakkari War Bear (400 shards, 330 gems)

Heroes

Cassia (15,000 gold, 750 gems)

Varian (10,000 gold, 375 gems)

Leoric (7,000 gold, 311 gems)

Ignoring the Cassia tints, since they're probably showing up due to new hero bundle, this suggests that weekly sales in 2.0 may look like this:

  • 6 skin tints: 1 legendary, 2 epic, 3 rare (compared to current 2 skins with 3 tints each)

  • 2 mounts (1 legendary, 1 epic? but what about rares?) - currently seldom on sale

  • 2 heroes (50% off gem price, gold price stays the same)

Which means a US$10 hero will cost US$7.50 in 2.0 and US$3.75 when featured (not including bulk gem discounts).

Skins and mounts will cost (for 1 tint) $4 for legendary, $3.30 for epic and a range of prices ($1 to $2.50?) for rare. It's a little more complicated to compare these to 2.0 prices since a) mounts seldom go on sale, b) value will depend on whether you like all three tints or only one.

Please feel free to chime in with additional info, corrections etc. Hope this is useful.

Serious and confused question... Why can Kharazim Palm himself but Rehgar can't Ancestral?

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 06:09 PM PDT

I'm just not seeing where the balance is in that..... Palm has to be timed before death, but 60sec cd vs Ancestral heals about 25% more but has 100sec cd and can be cc'd out of it.

Just a question out of curiosity as I don't really see the difference.

Rockstar needs to be lengthened with the new ETC changes.

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 04:42 PM PDT

Rockstar, at 2 seconds duration, is simply too short for the armor provided by it to be meaningful in any way. The "Bard Playstyle" that the devs wanted to promote by suggesting chaining abilities is not viable even slightly with this current length.

Increase Rockstar to 4 seconds or allow Rockstar to activate in additional circumstances. (ex. Basic attacks vs enemy heroes)
