Loot Chests:

Loot chests are the new type of reward that you'll be earning in Heroes of the Storm, similar to the Overwatch loot box system. There are four types of chests you can earn:

Chest Type Reward Reward Frequency
Common Anything! Every non-specific Player Level
Rare Guaranteed Rare item Every 5 Player Levels
Epic Guaranteed Epic item Every 25 Player Levels
Hero-specific Guaranteed item for that Hero Every 10 levels with that Hero

Each chest type is guaranteed to award at least one item of that Chest's rarity level or higher, though even standard Loot Chests have a chance to contain Rare, Epic, or Legendary items. You can reroll Chests up to three times with gold, Common and Rare ones costing 250/500/750, Epic ones costing 500/1000/1500.

For more information about how to earn loot chests, check out this post. For those that have previously played Heroes of the Storm, check out the Veteran loot chests you will receive upon the launch of 2.0.

Mega Bundles

If you're just joining us in the Nexus, or looking to expand your Hero pool, Mega Bundles are going to be available for the launch of 2.0*! These bundles each contain 20 Heroes, and have their own unique theme. You can choose between:

  • Assassin: Filled with Heroes who dish out destructions wherever they go, including Gankers, Mages, Siege, and Marksmen.
  • Flex: Contains a wide variety of heroes, from every role. This is the recommended bundle for new players, as you get a taste for the different playstyles.
  • Support & Specialist: Filled with many of the Support-styles heroes, including some Warrior and Utility Heroes that help your team stay in the fight for the win.
  • Tanks & Bruisers: Filled with Heroes that can take a hit and deal it right back on their own. Mainly melee heroes that do very well in close combat.

Already have some heroes and looking to get the most value? Here is a calculator created by /u/ccKep that can help you get the most bang for your buck.

Coming from League or Dota? Here's a guide to help you choose a bundle.

*Limited time offer. Mega Bundles will be available following the launch of Heroes of the Storm 2.0 in your region, lasting until May 22, 2017.

Currencies:

There are now three different currencies (thanks /u/luskaner) in the game:

  • Gold:
    • Earned from playing, leveling up, and completing quests
    • Used to purchase heroes
    • Used to reroll loot chests (up to 3 times)
  • Gems:
  • Shards:
    • Earned from loot chests and when you get duplicate items
    • Used to craft different cosmetic items for your collection

New Player Resources:

If you're just joining us, welcome! Heroes is entering a new stage, and there's never been a better time to join, thanks to the Mega Bundles. Here are some useful resources to check out, once you've had a chance to play and want to improve your skills:

Veteran Resources:

If you've been playing Heroes of the Storm for a while now but want to catch up on some of the finer details of what you might be getting, here are some links:

Promo events:

FAQs:

Should I open my Mega bundle or Loot Chest first?

Definitely open your Mega bundle, as Heroes can be legendary rewards in your loot chests.

Which order should I open my loot chests in?

Open your chests from common to legendary in order of lowest rarity first, as it will make judging your veteran chests easier.

Should I be leveling now, or waiting for Heroes 2.0?

Short answer: unless you want to min-max very heavily with each hero, don't worry about it. You'll earn loot chests based on your total level when 2.0 launches, as well as loot chests when you level heroes in 2.0.

Should I spend my gold now, or wait until 2.0?

Wait for 2.0. You'll probably unlock some heroes from the Mega Bundles, and you can use the gold to reroll loot chests.

Did we miss something? Let us know in the comments, especially about resources for new players! Also a quick reminder that /r/HeroesMeta exists if you have anything else you'd like to discuss about the subreddit.

Arthas model comparison

Posted: 22 Apr 2017 03:52 AM PDT

I know this is the thousandth Arthas model thread but I've made a comparison with his action figure and Leoric. http://i.imgur.com/H9ohuZ6.jpg Please look at the guy in the middle. He looks silly with that proportions and his in game hopping walk animation. I think an iconic character like Arthas deserves a better treatment.

Dread and Gilly are amazing together

Posted: 22 Apr 2017 04:23 PM PDT

But of course twitch chat gonna twitch chat. I don't get the complaints against them, they show more personality than anyone casting Heroes today and people calling for the head? Wat? Show any personality, complain, casters too serious, complain. I'd rather watch these guys all day every day over listening to anyone else. Just wanna say Gilly and Dread you guys are awesome, especially during the draft phases, keep doing what you're doing 👌

With 2.0 coming remember to...

Posted: 22 Apr 2017 03:06 AM PDT

With the release of 2.0 just days away, remember that this is a precious chance for Blizzard to grow and expand the HoTs population.

With 2.0 coming remember to understand and accept that there will be new and returning players that will be (re)learning how to play. Try to be nice, encouraging, fun, and helpful. Do your part to make their game experience one that they will want to come back to.

It would be extremely beneficial for all of us if the population of our game grows. Let's not prevent that from happening.

Can we get a Brawl where we start at level 20 and choose all our talents right away?

Posted: 22 Apr 2017 11:40 AM PDT

I think it would be fun to be able to start off with all our talent tiers unlocked. We can choose to talent right away, or skip choosing right away so we can counter pick. We could maybe get a whole minute before the gates open so we can finish choosing our talents.

Just wanted to tell you that you have an awesome community.

Posted: 22 Apr 2017 06:42 AM PDT

I played WoW since TBC and quit on Cataclysm. Then I moved to mobas and reached high diamond in league, but I never truly felt at home. In WoW I remember one random dude walked me all the way from Durotar to The Dark Portal; I missed having that sense of community.

Now after a week of playing HotS (I'm level 21) I have a similar feeling. In-game there are more people willing to help and far less flaming than in LoL.

Let's keep it this way, let's be the best community any moba has ever seen!

Ranked should require a few owned warriors and supports

Posted: 22 Apr 2017 07:35 AM PDT

With the release of the Assassins Mega Bundle, I fear that a lot of the new players will get that (because everyone wants to play Assassins and that Bundle also has the best value...) and will join ranked with only heroes from that bundle at level 5. It has always been a small problem that you can join ranked without any warrior or support, but I think this problem could get worse after the release of 2.0. I really think 3 of the 14 heroes you have at level 5 should be warrior and 3 should be support. In addition to that, a small notification should be added if you're about to pick a hero that would make your team not have warrior/support, so new players that join draft modes know that the typical QM-mess is not the optimal way to play.

Fix Hanamura's AFK detector

Posted: 22 Apr 2017 05:38 PM PDT

I'm pretty sure I'm not the first one who was kicked out of the match for AFK because, you know, noone come to you to contest and game was thinking you are doing nothing. Even though "doing nothing" is exactly what is the game objective. You are staying near and do nothing. This is extremely stupid and frustrational

Anyone else think that Garden of Terror sucks?

Posted: 22 Apr 2017 02:28 PM PDT

I feel like In most maps, the objective forces the two teams to fight, however, it's possible to completely Ignore the other team by just sticking to your side of the garden. Although this may not be strategic, it happens way more than you would think in qm/silver. In addition, a good terror player will just run around, poke forts and poly the enemy team while the rest of their team soaks xp. I dot k ow about you guys, but I feel like defending against other objectives has a sense of danger, and even though you lost you're more worried about the game than you are annoyed. However, in garden of terror chasing the terror across the map is tedious and definitely not epic. I personally think that this map is dull and snowbally, and should be reworked or perhaps just removed. What do y'all think?

If Blackheart's, Garden of Terror and Haunted Mines are excluded from HGC, why are we forced to play them in ranked?

Posted: 22 Apr 2017 06:08 AM PDT

I understand that this is the top tier of competitive play but if there's a clear acknowledgement that these maps are unbalanced, "snowbally" or unfair...why are any players forced to play them in a competitive setting?

Why is Dehaka the only one to use his ready animation at MVP screen?

Would make the MVP screen appear much better if the heroes on it had their ready animation.

Not to mention that Dehaka also has all 4 arms

Not gamebreaking bug: Bots don't know how to nuke on Warhead Junction.

Posted: 22 Apr 2017 12:15 PM PDT

Just got out of a unranked draft where our Tyrael left. His bot picked up a warhead and held it for the rest of the game. We pushed to core and would have had a chance to win if A) players can control bot nukes or B) bot nukes could be transferred to allies.

As it stands a bot player on Warhead Junction is even more of a liability than on other maps.

Suggestion: Don't switch music tracks when starting to queue

Posted: 22 Apr 2017 03:44 AM PDT

This game has many amazing music tracks from all Blizzard games, but sadly whenever you press the ready button the track changes. In addition to it being, IMO, repetitive and pretty boring, I wish I could keep listening to one of the menu themes. Maybe we can even have options to choose our favorite tracks to be part of the rotation!

F Heroes of the Storm?

Posted: 22 Apr 2017 03:08 PM PDT

So guys,

We have only had one hero from F: Falstad. And that to me is quite a lot of name favoritism. But before we can call Blizzard namists. I want to ask the fan base, do we have cool characters from F for Blizzard to import. Here is what i know:

** But is deceased per lore right

  • Fenix (Best Protoss martyr)

** But is deceased, can't consider Talandar as his consciousness in that robot takes on a new identity towards the end

  • Feugen (Bad ass skeletor twin)

** Is dead right? That was once undead? Why can undead be dead?

  • Falric (Arthas's bitch, leads several battles as humans then allows Arthas to make him an undead)

** Is alive?

  • Freya (One of the coolest Keepers and a Giantess)

** She got corrupted by Yogg-Saron but then his other random spells summons us (hero) in WoW to uncorrupt her. Now she lives in the Bahamas, sipping on Coolaids.

** Do nephalims die by age? Is he dead? Is Bul Kathos dead? Anyway his chest hair was so manly, they would shave it to make Musk and Axe Body Sprays.

** Is he dead? Do terrans have anti aging cream? If he died, he probably died by skin cancer cuz this fool always played with fire and got six degree skin burns all the time.

  • Frydehr (Most badass paladin in diablo ever, people crave for his shield)

** He probably died, why would he leave his shield behind. Oh wait, that's right, he became so manly that he didn't need to hide behind metallic objects to kill demons and angels alike. MUHAHAHAHA!

  • Faerlina (Botanist during life, when she died began to think spiders were plants)

** So fair, so cute, everyone loves her long time. She has disciples but she is an undead, so ewwww necrophiliacs. I guess they only read that she is a widow and were like Dibsies. I think y'all kill her in WoW, so she is dead per lore.

  • Fara (For a paladin, she is a fair(a) trader)

** She greets you with a dance every time you come to her. She is just that sort of a girl. Need love with all the hate going on nowadays in Nexus.

  • Flavie (Diablo's invulnerable Rogue Scout)

** If you remember correctly, this girl was unattackable. She was so hip. All you had to do was have her and then keep running while she chunked down your enemies. That's the kind of pick I want on my team.

** She is almost an angel guys. Give her a chance. Is she dead per lore though? Since we boss battle them in WoW.

~~~ Am I missing anything. Who from the above list do you see making it to the nexus.
It might be Deathwing
Posted: 22 Apr 2017 10:17 AM PDT
By now I'm sure everyone has seen the teaser and it's looking likely that it could be Deathwing. For many reasons, the teaser itself strongly indicated him. We know the new cinematic will feature the new hero, therefore it would have a lot more impact of the hero was an iconic villain.
I feel the new cinematic will be similar to the varian/ragnaros one we saw at blizzcon but this time with genji and Deathwing fighting. Sounds weird but bare with me here for a second.
The cinematic is for heroes of the storm 2.0 so what better way to show that than with two heroes that are 2.0 versions of themselves. In case you didn't know, genji is a cyborg ninja that was given a robot body after his brother nearly killed him. Hence the genji we see is essentially genji 2.0... Kinda.
Likewise with Deathwing if it is indeed him. Deathwing was originally Neltharion the aspect of earth until he was corrupted by the old gods into becoming Deathwing. As Deathwing he was nearly killed and his own corruption nearly tore him apart until he was given a new body. Deathwing is Neltharion 2.0.
Seems fitting to me to launch heroes 2.0 with genji as we know it is. But then follow it up a few weeks later with Deathwing seeing as both the heroes are remade versions of themselves.
TL;DR Genji and Deathwing would be fitting heroes to launch heroes 2.0 with seeing as both these heroes were remade/changed drastically sometime in their lives just as the game is changing.
