Stamina Nightblade PvE in PTS v3.0.1

Stamina Nightblade PvE in PTS v3.0.1

What's the point of this post?

I hope that by walking through the unique talents that Stamina Nightblades bring to the table, and then demonstrating the strengths/weaknesses of this spec via parses, I can demonstrate that there really is a problem with the design of this class and how that pertains to PvE content. And, hopefully again, that can help us figure out what kind of tweaks might help make Stamina Nightblades viable in end-game group PvE again. The scope of this post is purely end-game PvE, focusing on Trials and (to a lesser extent) Maelstrom Arena. I love my Stamina Nightblade. It's my original XB1 toon, my Master Crafter, my achievement hunter, my Flawless Conqueror. I don't want to be forced onto a different character in order to not hold back my raid team.

What do Stamina Nightblades do well?

I think it's important, in any discussion about a particular class, to start with a solid understanding of the class strengths.

  1. Critical Strikes
    • Pressure Points (passive) increases crit chance by 438 (~2%) per Assassination ability slotted.
    • Hemorrhage (passive) increases crit damage modifier by 10% and grants Minor Savagery when dealing critical damage, which increases weapon critical by 657 (~3%).
  2. Sustain
  3. Ultimate Uptime
  4. Burst & Execute
    • Surprise Attack (active) which gives 100% operational uptime of Major Fracture, grants Shadow Ward, and is an excellent damage ability in and of itself (although it is inferior to Rapid Strikes for pure DPS in a group environment where a tank provides Major Fracture, especially in loadouts that include Maelstrom DW weapons).
    • Killer's Blade (active) is one of the best executes in the game.
    • Soul Harvest (ulti) and Incapacitating Strike (ulti) are also great burst skills.

In a group PvE environment (specifically in raids), the only active abilities of interest in the Stamina Nightblade's toolkit are: Relentless Focus, Leeching Strikes, and Killer's Blade. That's it. Three abilities. Sometimes Veil of Blades is used for mitigation. Most Stamina Nightblades won't run Incap/Soul Harvest in group PvE as Rend, Flawless Dawnbreaker, and even Ballista have more DPS potential.

In Maelstrom Arena, Stamina Nightblades have very high scoring potential. It may not be the easiest build to take into the arena, but given the strengths listed above (burst, sustain, execute, ultimate uptime), it's obvious that this build will excel there. Ironically, the change to Siphoning Attacks and its morphs actually does exactly the opposite of what the developers intended. A minor HoT is useless and counter to the Stamina Nightblade way: we kill stuff quickly and avoid damage. Death comes when we run out of stamina. Exchanging a solid stamina return for a small HoT is counter to the design of the class and IMO feels like a reactionary change that was only made to somewhat offset the increased cost of Vigor. It is, perhaps, also useful for newer players as it can be tough to stay alive on a low-level Stamina Nightblade ... but I'd prefer an active heal with a stamina morph in the class skill tree like Funnel Health/Swallow Soul. A 1k health return from Leeching Strikes isn't going to save me when I'm in the shit and low on resources and what I really need is to dodge, Vigor, and dodge some more.

There are many other useful skills in the Nightblade skill lines, but they are not relevant to end-game PvE.

What do Stamina Nightblades not do well?

  1. DoTs. There are no stamina morph DoT abilities in any of the Nightblade skill lines.
  2. AoE. Power Extraction has less DPS potential than Steel Tornado, and the buff is unnecessary in content where we run pots off cooldown. That is the only stam AoE skill Nightblades have.
  3. Healing. There are no stamina-based healing skills in the toolkit. Vigor is 100% necessary.
  4. Mitigation & Survivability. There are no shields. In Maelstrom, we can keep good uptime on Shadow Barrier via Surprise Attack, but in group PvE there are no useful stamina Shadow skills to keep those defensive buffs up.

  7. Heavy Attack, Rearming Trap, Heavy Attack, Rending Slashes, swap
  8. Go to #4 until execute
  9. In execute, keep all DoTs running and Heavy Attack/Killer's Blade weave

Keep in mind that for all listed rotations, the in-game version is probably a bit different. I put together the rotations in a spreadsheet to come up with something repeatable with limited overlap/downtime, but optimization wasn't my goal here. A big part of that is that I don't know anyone on PC who can stand there with a tank to give me Major Fracture on PTS, so I whipped up a Reaper's Mark (Piercing Mark on PTS) rotation so that I could get a semi-realistic parse. Throwing in that debuff complicates things, especially on live, since the duration doesn't sync up with everything else. Also, human error, and I'm just not that good. My old brain gets confused and my old fingers get tired. Nonetheless, these should be fairly representative parses for my play-style. The Live parse could probably get up around 40k with a tank throwing fracture, and in the 41-42k range with optimization. There's Trap overlap because I was trying to build a rotation that would be exactly the same every time for testing (and I think I missed a Poison Injection as well). The videos/logs of the parses tell a more accurate tale than the textual descriptions, obviously. The PTS rotation I could see getting up to 35k or so with a tank and with optimization, but it's less viable in real PvE content because I'm scraping the bottom of my stamina pool constantly.

Also, if I try to run the rotation from Live on PTS, I can get the 3mil skeleton to 50-60% before my stam pool is drained.

Target Skeleton (3 mil) Parses

Live: 38.2k DPS with video
PTS: 31.5k DPS with Combat Metrics

I'll try to get a video of the PTS parse. Was having some trouble with tearing/choppiness.

Analysis

Clearly we've taken a DPS hit. It's no surprise that Nightblades can't run a Heavy Attack focused rotation as effectively as DKs (with the huge Heavy Attack buff from Molten Armaments) or Sorcerers (with the smaller Heavy Attack buff from Bound Armaments). It seems that Templars have better sustain now, and better group utility, along with a cheap ultimate and fast ultimate generation. So, why bring a Stamina Nightblade to a raid? We have one of the lowest, if not the lowest, single-target DPS potential. No unique AoE. No unique DoTs. Limited group utility in Minor Savagery and Veil of Blades.

So why do Stamina Nightblades suck?

It's the content, dummy. Many of the skills and strengths of the Nightblade class just don't have any benefit in the PvE content ZOS has designed. We can't go stealth or invisible in a boss fight. We can't stun bosses. We can't CC bosses. Burst is mostly useless, except in Maelstrom, as you can't burst down a boss with 50 mil health.

It's the class, dummy. The majority of Nightblade skills do not have stamina morphs (Strife, Agony, Cripple, Path of Darkness, and Summon Shades and all of their morphs are Magicka abilities that do magic damage). Minor Savagery is useless in group PvE right now because no one runs stamina characters, but it might be a little more useful next patch if we see more balanced groups. Shadow Barrier is a really great buff to mitigation but since there are very few Nightblade class skills that are useful for Stamina Nightblades in end-game PvE, we can't proc it.

How to fix it

I'm no Nightblade superstar like @Jeckll or @Gilliamtherogue. I don't have expertise in every stamina class in a top raid group like @Asmael. Nonetheless, I've got a lot of experience running a Stamina Nightblade in Trials and in Maelstrom. What I'd like to do is focus on tweaks that would help Stamina Nightblades in PvE without (hopefully) breaking PvP, with an eye towards aligning the changes with the theme of the class.

Some of these ideas are stolen or modified from suggestions I've heard/read from @Jeckll and @Gilliamtherogue. I'm a thief, sorry not sorry. That's why I play a Nightblade!

I am particularly drawn to the idea of buffing execute damage. I think this has the potential to really up the utility of both Stamblades and Magblades in group PvE without messing too much with any other content. I also think that there needs to be a way for Stamina Nightblades to use Shadow abilities in a PvE rotation to keep Shadow Barrier up. The (IMO) poorly conceived Leeching Strikes change doesn't help in that regard. We need increased mitigation to compete with Magicka DPS who can stand 50 feet away behind their invincibility shields waving their fairy wands.

  • Assassin's Blade (and both Killer's Blade and Impale morphs): Grants additional bonus damage when standing behind an enemy.
    • Why? Fits the class theme perfectly, and shouldn't have a significant impact in PvP because if you're getting hit from behind with a Killer's Blade in PvP at less than 25% health, you're likely dead regardless. It also makes positioning more important in Trials fights, which requires good strategy and tactics rather than just balls-to-the-wall DPS rotations. Finally, it doesn't significantly boost Maelstrom scores because the execute phase is pretty short on all Maelstrom bosses and getting behind an enemy is more difficult without a tank.
  • Alternatively, modify the Master Assassin passive such that the bonus Weapon/Spell Damage is granted when standing behind an enemy.
    • Why? Same as above.
    • Why not? Likely has a larger impact on PvP than the proposed change to Killer's Blade.
  • Alternatively, modify the Master Assassin passive such that bonus Weapon/Spell damage is granted on all execute abilities during execute (but perhaps the bonus should be reduced).
    • Why? Isn't this right up a Nightblade's alley? It would buff Killer's Blade, Steel Tornado, and Poison Injection. Buffing Steel Tornado would be a nice little boost to AoE DPS.
    • Why not? PvP, I'm sure.
  • Alternatively, modify the Master Assassin passive such that while doing execute damage, the entire group's execute damage is buffed.
    • Why? Same as all of the above suggestions.
    • Why not? Might be hard to tune appropriately even with a very small buff.
  • Siphoning Attacks: Change Leeching Strikes so that it costs Magicka to cast. The return on investment for this skill is very low on PTS.
    • Why? The version on PTS has really poor utility. We get 6-8k stamina returned over 20 seconds for a cost of 3k, meaning we gain 3-4k stamina over 20 seconds assuming a near-perfect weave. It's right on the verge of being useless.
    • Why not? No idea, but it's been a while since I've seen anything done to this game that was positive for PvE Nightblades, so maybe ZOS really does hate us? ;)
  • Grim Focus: Tweak the Spectral Bow proc, either:
    • Allow the bow to be procced multiple times per cast, or
    • Reapply the buffs when the bow is procced
    • Why? This has been discussed ad nauseam. It's a clunky skill and many people just ignore the proc altogether in PvE.
    • Why not? I'm sure someone will tell me that changing Grim Focus will just totally ruin everything that's good and unique about Nightblades.
  • Replace Shadow Image and/or Refreshing Path with a stamina morph that does disease damage rather than magic damage.
    • Why? Adds stamina DoTs (and an AoE DoT in the case of Path) to the repertoire and gives us Shadow abilities we can actually use in our rotations to keep Shadow Barrier up.
    • Why not? IMO, additional DoTs and AoEs don't really feel like Stamina Nightblade abilities.
The general theme here is that, IMO, any buffs to Nightblade DPS should happen within the narrow scope of what sets Nightblades apart from other classes, such as critical strikes and execute damage. Additionally, of the 3 Nightblade skills that Stamina Nightblades actually use in end-game group PvE, 1 is clunky and in dire need of a usability tweak (Grim Focus) and the other was nerfed into the ground this patch (Siphoning Strikes).

An aside

I think War Machine could be a really great set on a Stamina Nightblade if Incapacitating Strike had the same Ultimate generation utility of Soul Harvest. As-is, it seems that raid groups will be better off using Magicka Nightblades with Master Architect or Stamina Templars with War Machine. Both have better group utility, AoE, and survivability. And I think that if a Nightblade is required to have a set from the new Trial in order to be end-game viable, well, then the classes are not balanced.

Closing thoughts on Stamina Nightblades

My PTS testing so far leads me to see Stamina Nightblades as a poor man's Stamina Sorcerer (which is the same complaint Magicka Nightblades have had for quite some time now). The new Leeching Strikes is like a crappy Crit Surge and none of the unique Nightblade attacks are useful for Stamina Nightblades in group PvE except for the execute. IMO, the raison d'être for Stamina Nightblades is high single-target damage and really effective executes, so I'd like to see some minor tweaks/buffs that push up our single-target DPS and execute efficacy. We have the worst AoE and DoT DPS in the game, so shouldn't we be the best at single target? The trick is doing it in such a way that doesn't adversely affect PvP. Finally, given the expectation that Trials content will take a bit longer now that DPS is reduced due to the across-the-board sustain changes, it would be really useful to have execute specialists in-group to help burn through those Enrage mechanics.

Closing thoughts on the PTS changes

Meh. Not sure what else to say. Just ... meh. Seems like what ZOS did here was "lower the ceiling" by a significant amount. If they "raised the floor," I'm seeing in my testing that it wasn't by very much. All they've done is make us swap out some spammables for Heavy Attacks and move CP around. I just don't see the point. We've brought the casual player closer to the top-end player (maybe), but primarily just by making the top-end player worse. The Heavy Attack mechanic is easy but it's boring and feels clunky. I don't like it, but I don't hate it either.

Thanks for reading! I would really appreciate feedback from the few remaining Stamina Nightblade players in the raid community. ;)

Why bother with motifs if dropped gear is endgame meta? Crafting needs a buff!

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 02:01 PM PDT

The inability to wear 2 full sets of crafted gear and the crazy effective dropped sets are making crafting kind of useless outside of tempering. I can't have a min-maxed outift with the same motif unless it's PvP gear. And even then I gotta play the RNG game.

Crafting has to be viable for endgame or we're basically farming motifs for vanity items. Any thoughts on this?

Weird people in group dungeons normal Imperial prison

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 01:57 AM PDT

I encountered a bunch of weirdos in nICP today. I queued as a DPs. Im CP 200. They seemed to know each other, all of them are level 10 to 20-ish. But I believe some of them got CPs. So I trusted them and we started. It was OK at first. Even though the lv 20 didn't tank too much we still managed to do it. Got wiped once at the pool where zombies rushed into. Then at the place there is like an island surrounded by poisonous water. The tanks said kill the adds first, but the boss was coming to me and the tank was not aggro it. And they blamed on me for attracting the boss and not killing the adds. I was polite and explained that I did kill the adds first. I actually streaked around to avoid the boss and chased the adds. Whatever I felt it weird already but I continued. So next the big guy using poison ponds. Got wiped twice. The first time I died first, I have to admit that I made a mistake and rushed in to the aoe. But then no one came to rez me and they all died. And then they start to insult me and said they rez me three times and I refused. I swear they didn't even rez me a single time. When somebody rez you you can not miss that high notice to press e. Then we tried another time, another DPs died and I went to rez him, I died again when rez. Finally they voted to kick me. Well then I requeued and finished the nICP in 20 mins with another normal group. But still I don't understand these people whats wrong with them

Seems the longer I play this on console the more bugs I encounter.

[Discussion] Dungeons with low level players......

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 10:59 AM PDT

This week I've queued with 2-3 low level tanks and one DPS. The DPS was okay, the dungeon moved a little more slowly, but we were all lower levels once and it's kind to help others complete stuff and I'm not in a rush to grind anyway..

.. But the tanks, my god. I had to leave at least 4 groups this week and suffer that annoying 15m penalty, because this sort of thing happens:

Enter White Gold Tower. I'm grouped with a level 10-something tank, level 30/40something DPS and me as the healer (I'm almost 400cp) I ask if they know the mechanics of this dungeon because some people don't, and if they needed to go slower we could... I get no reply. I assume the best and we go to the first boss. (harvester)

The tank literally runs around absolutely everywhere, and the health bar is going up and down like a yo-yobecause I'm having to spam breath of life. I'll cast springs and cleansing ritual on the floor to keep the heals up and because I go near the boss, the guy just RUNS OFF and leaves me, the healer in light armour to somehow magically become a tank, healer and DPS, all at once. I say in the group chat "You need to hold aggro on the boss" and get no reply. I mean seriously.......?

I can totally understand why people instantly kick lower levels, which must suck if you are genuinely wanting to learn. It's so annoying when this stuff happens. If you don't know something or need help, just ask. Most of the time people would be happy to help you out instead of wiping at the first boss or having to leave the group.

Uncle Sweetshare's StamBlade (Hybrid) Tanking Guide

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 03:29 AM PDT

Before we get into the build and gear setup, I'd first like to talk about what this build is, and what it isn't.

What it is is a fun way for my fellow StamBlades to go into Normal Dungeons, Veteran Dungeons, and Normal Trials, and clear them with relative ease through beefiness and sustain, without having to make any changes to race, attributes, or skill points (or CP, if you're feeling particularly lazy/ broke). It may or may not be viable for Veteran Trials, I haven't tested it there myself yet.

What it isn't is a fully optimized build meant for timed runs or anything of the sort. I'm not saying that it's not possible, just that the build isn't optimized for it because it's under the assumption that you're already playing as a Stamina Nightblade who would like to start tanking without having to invest a ton of time or gold.

For the remainder of the guide I'll try to make this as readable as possible, and I'll do my best to explain each choice while keeping it relatively short.

I'd like to reiterate that this guide is not about being fully optimized, it's about being able to go from StamBlade to TankBlade at the push of a button (AlphaGear), and clear almost any content in the game as a tank.

Race: Doesn't matter; whichever race you're using with your Stamina build is fine.

Attribute Points: All 64 into Stamina, or whatever you happen to use for your Stamina build.

Champion Points: Whatever you happen to have set up for StamBlade is fine, however I'll point out which ones I believe will be most beneficial to this build (in order of most effective to least effective).
Blue - The Apprentice: Blessed, Elemental Expert, Spell Erosion
Green - The Tower: Magician || The Shadow: Shadow Ward, Tumbling
Red - The Lady: Hardy, Elemental Defender || The Lord: Quick Recovery

Skills: For this build you'll want to run Sword and Shield on both bars. If your Sword and Shield isn't leveled yet, I'd suggest equipping one or hot barring an ability, and going either Skyreach or Dolmen grinding.
Hotbar 1:
1. Swallow Soul (Strife Morph): Single target DoT/ HoT that while slotted grants you Minor Vitality. When pulling trash, you'll typically want to use this on the tankiest mob, as it will survive the longest and provide you with more healing without having to recast as quickly. During boss fights, just keep it up.
2. Pierce Armor (Puncture Morph): Single target taunt that inflicts Major Fracture and Major Breach on target. This is our main taunt; during boss fights you'll want to reapply this to the boss every 12 seconds, as that's how long Major Fracture and Breach last.
3. Sap Essence (Drain Power Morph): AoE ability that heals you and group members, and grants you Major Brutality and Major Sorcery. This is our main AoE spam, make sure to watch your Magicka while using this, and ensure that Siphoning Attacks is active before spamming. During boss fights it can still be used for it's heal and to reapply Major Brutality and Sorcery.
4. Heroic Slash (Low Slash Morph): Single target ability that applies a slow, Minor Maim, and grants you Minor Heroism. This ability has *so much** utility, it isn't even funny. You'll want to keep this up on bosses, and use it on larger/ harder hitting mobs during trash pulls.*
5. Refreshing Path (Path of Darkness Morph): AoE DoT/ HoT that grants Major Expedition to yourself and allies. You'll want to have this always up, whether fighting trash or bosses.
6. Soul Harvest (Death Stroke Morph): Low cost Ultimate that increases your damage against the target for 6 seconds. This is slotted for it's ultimate generation. The damage itself is pretty weak, and the increased damage doesn't amount to much as you won't be doing a lot of damage anyways.

Hotbar 2:
1. Inner Rage (Inner Fire Morph): Ranged taunt with chance for synergy. This is our Magicka taunt, use to grab the attention of ranged/ caster mobs.
2. Relentless Focus (Grim Focus Morph): Self buff that grants Minor Berserk and Minor Endurance, and can be reactivated for a single target damage ability. Since you will spend 95% of your time on your front bar, the reactivate isn't that important.
3. Mirage (Blur Morph): Self buff that grants Major Evasion, Minor Resolve, and Minor Ward. You'll want to keep this up whenever possible.
4. Siphoning Attacks (Siphoning Strikes Morph): Self buff that causes your light and heavy attacks to restore Magicka and Stamina, and all other direct damage to have a 10% chance to Magicka and Stamina. You'll want to keep this up whenever possible.
5. Optional Slot; Dark Shades (Summon Shade Morph), Unstoppable (Immovable Morph), Bone Surge (Bone Shield Morph, and Resolving Vigor (Vigor Morph) are all great choices.
6. Veil of Blades (Consuming Darkness Morph): AoE slow and DoT that grants allies Major Protection, and has a synergy which grants allies invisibility and a massive HoT. You'll typically want to save this for boss fights, however due to your ultimate generation, don't be afraid to use whenever. *Side note:** Aggressive Horn (War Horn Morph) is also a viable option here.*

Passives: These aren't necessarily the end-all, be-all passives, just which ones are suggested for use with this build.
Assassination: Pressure Points, Hemorrhage
Shadow: Refreshing Shadows, Shadow Barrier, Dark Vigor, Dark Veil
Siphoning: Catalyst, Magicka Flood, Soul Siphoner, Transfer
One Hand and Shield: Fortress, Sword and Board, Battlefield Mobility
Heavy Armor: Resolve, Constitution, Juggernaut, Wrath, Rapid Mending
Undaunted: Undaunted Command, Undaunted Mettle

Gear: 5 piece Plague Doctor (2 Armor (Infused on large pieces, Reinforced or Sturdy on small), 3 Jewelry (Arcane with Reduced Spell Cost Enchantments)), 5 piece Redistributor (3 Armor (Infused on large pieces, Reinforced or Sturdy on small), 1 One Hander (Sharpened or Defending with Weapon Damage Enchant), 1 Shield (Infused)), and 2 piece Engine Guardian (Preferably 1 Light, 1 Medium (for Undaunted Mettle), Infused on Helm, Reinforced or Sturdy on Shoulders). All Armor should be enchanted with Truly Superb Glyphs of Magicka.

I chose Plague Doctor for the massive health pool (8k) and increased healing, Redistributor because you're going to have so many self heals/ HoT that you can practically keep a party up by yourself through the 5 piece bonus, and Engine Guardian because it allows you to alter your playstyle on the go (if you get Health regen you can basically heal through anything in the game, if you get Magicka Regen you can spam Sap Essence til your fingers bleed, and if you get Stamina you can spam Heroic Slash/ Pierce Armor to your heart's content). Note: There are many gear setups that are viable, this is just what I've found to work best.

With this gear setup, purple tri-stat food, and all 64 Attribute Points into Stamina, you're looking at a total resource pool of approximately 34k Health, 22k Magicka, and 24k Stamina, and a base damage reduction of nearly 30% (through Physical and Spell Resistance).

Using this build I've managed to clear all PvE content in game except for Veteran Trials, which I haven't attempted yet. Again, the purpose of this build isn't to be the best at anything, it's to allow my fellow Stamina Nightblades to tank end game PvE content without having to make massive changes to attributes, skill points, or more dramatically, race change.

Thank you all for reading, and best of luck out there! If you have any questions or suggestions I'd be glad to hear them!

Blurry textures on characters

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 03:25 AM PDT

Ok so I have read a few posts about this and people have given solutions, but I have read that the solution has some negatives so I don't want to do the whole changing the .ini file thing.

Will they ever fix this? Or is it just how the game is? Seriously, what's the point of having high textures if it takes 1-2 seconds to load and in busy places like the bank building, it almost never loads on other players unless I directly stand against them.

How to counter petsorcs in PvP?

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 02:59 AM PDT

Hi, I go to imperial city a lot, and have noticed a trend of increased petsorcs. Now, I can deal with gankblades, infiniblockers etc, but petsorcs (a GOOD petsorc) seems to usually kill me after a while, and sometimes I accidentally meteor their pets.

I am a magsorc myself, how can I counter these tough cookies?? Looking for build suggestions/skill suggestions/general tips.

Thoughts about a Bow Stamina Warden

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 11:48 AM PDT

At first I was thinking that the new Warden class looked biased towards going magicka, but after delving deeper, it appears to me that a stamina build, especially a bow and bear focused one, could be quite strong with the Warden. As I am still fairly new to the game, some of my understandings regarding the game mechanics work might be wrong. Here are some of my thoughts regarding why I think a Bow focused Warden looks strong. Any suggestions, corrections or input would be welcomed. Also, any responses to the questions would be appreciated. Also, sorry in advance for the strange formatting.

  • 6% additional physical damage (the passive Piercing Cold) is a nice boost to the bow skills and the stamina morphs; the equivalent frost damage boost doesn't seem as helpful for most magic builds.

  • The Piercing Cold passive combined with Long Shots in the bow line (12% boost to ranged attacks) increases Cutting Dive to up to an 18% bonus at range so it's actually better than the magicka morph if used with a bow. Plus, magic builds already have Force Pulse for a spammable ranged attack so this skill seems like a much bigger addition for bow users compared to magicka focused characters.

  • Wild guardian gives 6% bonus damage with the physical damage boost of Piercing Cold. I'm confused if that is the only advantage it has over Eternal guardian. I keep reading that it is supposed to have increased damage, but different sources seem to have different information. Also, this is sort of random but can the bear go into stealth with you?

  • Soothing Spores appears to be the only class based stamina heal and it can heal you and your bear. Also, the Warden has a passive heal with Green Lotus. It also has a percentage based heal, but I think I like Soothing Spores more as I can heal the bear from farther away and it's probably stronger for a stamina focused build.

  • Soothing Spores is an instant heal so it can be used more than once if necessary; second activation gets major mending if the initial Soothing Spores is used at the right time (under 40% health).

  • lots of stamina regen potential - 12% with bear; Bull Netch gives 22 seconds of extra stamina regen; Bird of prey gives Major Expedition (20% stamina regen boost) for 10 seconds;

Nature's Gift

When healing with a Green Balance ability, gain 250 Magicka or 250 Stamina. Restores your lowest resource pool.

(do light and heavy attacks with Green Lotus up activate Nature's Gift?)

plus no magicka race can compete with Wood Elfs 21% stamina regen

  • Only class with ranged, spammable physical attack (Cutting Dive)

  • Easy access to Major Savagery, Major Brutality, Minor berserk, Major expedition

  • Bear seems to compliment a bow character nicely as a tank that can be healed and brings some consistent extra dps. Also, the bear could help utilize Volley and it's morphs as I assume enemies will stay with the bear mostly.

  • Not stamina specific, but has lots of potential ultimate gain to utilize the bear ultimate frequently:

Shimmering Shield – Spin a shield of ice around you to absorb projectiles. Each absorb restores Magicka. Shield breaks after 3 projectiles. On each successful absorb, you gain Major Heroism, increasing Ultimate gain by 3 every 1.5 seconds for 6 seconds.

Savage Beast – Damaging an enemy with an Animal Companions ability grants 4 Ultimate. This effect has a cooldown of 8 seconds. (I think this was changed to activating an Animal Companions ability)

  • I like the Crystallized Shield morphs as a defensive ability for ranged classes (looks pretty similar to Reflective Scales)

  • I don't really miss having a stamina morph for Swarm as Volley and it's morphs seem to fill a similar role.

  • Some nice abilities to utilize your magicka: Crystalized Shield morphs, Green Lotus, and Bird of Prey are my favorites, but other options as well for AOE buffing, CC (since skills are limited I was going to try and get CC from bow skills that also offer noteworthy damage) and healing

  • again not stamina specific, but 20 seconds of minor toughness when healing with a green balance ability looks quite strong

Not sure how well it will stack up in groups, but for soloing and PVP, it looks very nice imo.

My current thinking for solo pve is something like this without going into sets and weapons.

Wood elf

bow for both weapon slots

bear ultimate double barred

Front bar

Cutting Dive - spammable, ranged physical attack

One of the morphs of Poison Arrow - single target dot, possibly an interrupt

Bombard - spammable damage AOE and AOE CC

Arrow Barrage - AOE dot

Shimmering Shield - reactive, ranged defense that doesn't use stamina and a huge buff to ultimate gains letting your bear become more of a DPS machine

Back bar

Soothing Spores - spammable stamina heal for you and your bear, plus minor toughness

Green Lotus - Major Savagery, plus a heal based on light and heavy attacks, possible good regeneration of stamina and magicka through Nature's gift

Bull Netch - No cost, Major brutality and extra stamina regen

Bird of Prey - Major expedition, Major endurance, Minor berserk

Subterranean Assault - AOE debuff and damage based on stamina

So again, since I'm pretty new, any thoughts, corrections, suggestions, or answers to my questions listed above would be welcome and appreciated.

[PS4] I just bought the game and I have no idea what to do.

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 01:35 AM PDT

Hi,

So i just bought the game and although I'm a very experienced World of Warcraft player...I'm very confused with how classes work. I can already tell it's nothing like Oblivion and Skyrim.

Right now I'm playing as a Dragon Knight Magika Dark elf...but I'm not satisfied. In skyrim I played a Battlemage using 1 had sword and spells. I'm still trying to find a class I want to play. If you could help maybe guide me as to what is viable right now, that would help.

Typically in Elder Scroll games I play Assassins/Battlemages. For ESO, i don't want to tank since I don't know the content yet and I'd prefer getting my first end game char as a DPS. For melee, I prefer Dual wield over Two Hand.

Is it possible to play as a DK using Dual Wield? And what race? OR would it be good to stick with my DK Magika character with a staff? Right now, i'm justing looking to have fun, learn the game and get to end game.

Thank you for helping me out if you can.

Ps4 PvP too laggy

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 01:33 AM PDT

I did some PvP for the first time tonight and I had some damn fun! Had 50 or so people on each side pushing back and forth in constant battle for a fort. Man was more fun than I've had in ESO in a while but the only problem was how laggy it was. Has this been an issue for a while? And no it's not my internet it get very good up and down speeds. Average 90 down 10 up. If ther3 is an issue is there a fix in the works etc?
