I finally found out where BotW takes place in the timeline!

Posted: 07 Feb 2017 02:49 AM PST

A lot of people have been debating over where BotW takes place in the timeline. There are elements from all the timelines, so it makes no sense for it to be set in any of them. Well, thing is, you were all wrong. Breath of the Wild takes place right after... The Faces of Evil! Don't believe me? Well, prepare to be proven wrong! Let's look at the evidence:

  • First of all, both Links look extremely similar. They both have the same hair color, the massive sideburn-like hair and the pointy ears. We've seen Link be very expressive in this game and what is the only other Zelda game where Link didn't have the expression of a dead potato? The Faces of Evil! Also, in Breath of the Wild Link is right-handed. And guess what's the only other game where he is right-handed? Yes, in the Faces of Evil Link is lef- EHM I mean, right handed obviously!

  • Breath of the Wild is the first 3D Zelda to use voice acting, which obviously is in reference to the game that innovated the series with the power of real human voice!

  • In Breath of the Wild we have gigantic machine beings that roam around the world. But in Faces of Evil, we can actually see the very same monsters before they started roaming the world! Hell, you can even see the salamander clearly being located below death mountain!

  • But what about the "100 years ago" you might ask? Well it's simple. Link "dying" 100 years ago is an allusion to all those completely unfair deaths you suffered from in Faces of Evil. Link accidentally fell off the cliff due to the poor controls, which is why he was put in the shrine of resurrection

  • The evil machines are also a very deep metaphorical representation of the CDI itself, because it's an evil machine that tries it's best to hurt you as much as it can

  • Don't believe me yet? Well, preapre for the decisive irrefutable evidence: Breath of the Wild is the first game to bring back the revolutionay mechanic first introduced in Faces of Evil: The chicken walk! Cool, huh?

And if we can get 5000000 upvotes next time I'll tell you how Breath of the Wild fits between Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks!

Grant me Strength to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can and Wisdom to know the difference

The normal version of this prayer uses serenity instead of strength but I found it fitting, what are quotes from movies or books you would fit in a Zelda universe?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Game Informer Coverage Trailer

I'm the guy who drew a ALTTP walkthrough, last week. I started from scratch and spruced it up a bit.

So I did some math between the differences in the wii U and switch load time comparison and how it will effect in game time for players.

Posted: 07 Feb 2017 07:15 AM PST

Okay so here are the assumptions that have been made.

So far the comparison between load times has been from boot switch takes 12 secs to in game wii U takes 35 secs

So our case is each player has 200hrs gameplay each just different versions. Now We'll assume that there is a loading screen every 10 mins for name sake where the person is going indoors , shrine , event etc.. so the first step is percentage wise how much faster is the switch.

The answer is simple its 66% faster (rounded) ( (12 / 35 ) * 100 = 34 ( 100% - 34% = 66% )

Now 200hrs is 12000 mins if we have a load screen every 10 mins it means we see a load screen 1200 in our time with breath of the wild.

now for the easy math. for the wii U we see this work out as 700 mins wasted with load screens ( (1200 * 35) / 60 ) only 240 mins on the switch ((1200 * 12) / 60 )

Which roughly translates to in the wii U we get a total in game play time of 188hrs whereas in the switch we get a total of 196hrs

Now I am well aware that this is based on a few assumptions like load screen every 10 mins won't actually be the case for most exploration but I take worse case scenario particularly populated zones and scene heavy areas this will be accurate enough. I also acknowledge that the * on load times is based on from boot but its all we got. If we had an in game load time we could do the math to show the difference in load times more substantially but again worst case scenerios

Also further proof I probably have too much time but hell that is some difference right.

Poor wii U players lose out on 8 hrs that the switch players have :'(

Anyway I would love to hear thoughts on this

Breath of the Wild has an Adventure Log that keeps track of quests. So you don't have to keep track of quests on your own like in Windwaker or Twilight Princess. The Adventure Log also stores all memories you recover!

Something I've wondered about the Spirit Temple...

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 07:55 PM PST

I remember the first time I played Ocarina of Time, thinking that the first floor of the Spirit Temple really looked like a rough representation of a female reproductive system, with the main chamber looking like the womb itself, with the chambers branching off roughly representing the fallopian tubes and the ovaries. And the entrance is placed between the legs of the goddess statue.

Two more of the upper floors look like much cruder representations of the womb. Even though I'm sure it's probably a coincidence (since the temple's floors roughly correspond to each other), the 2d Zeldas often have dungeon maps relating to their name: Mermaid's Cave looks like a mermaid swimming, the Bottle Grotto looks like a jar, the Tail Cave looks like a Moldorm, the Moonlit Grotto looks like two crescent moons ect.

Though personally I think it would make a lot of sense for an all female society to build their temple in such a fashion, and the Spirit Temple is one of the only Temples in OoT to be obviously a temple, Forest Temple is more like a castle/mansion, Fire Temple seems more like a mine, Shadow Temple seems to be more a crypt/prison with torture devices. The Water Temple is explicitly described as a place of worship for the Zora, but the Spirit Temple is far more straightforward in layout and contains chambers obviously made for worship.

It would make sense for the Goddess of the Sand to be a fertility goddess: Gerudo might go to the temple to pray for things like successful pregnancies that they can carry to term without complications, to survive pregnancy and childbirth in their harsh environment, for healthy and strong daughters (the harsh environment they live in and their heavily active lifestyle means weak or sickly daughters would probably not last long), or even the chance to bear the next Gerudo King (as I imagine being the mother of the next king would grant a great deal of prestige and power).

I don't know, I always loved the Gerudo and their culture, which sadly hasn't really been explored since Ocarina of Time, so it's fun to speculate. I'm hoping we'll find more about their ways in Breath of the Wild for their long, long, long overdue comeback. It's been almost a decade and a half since we last saw these gals, bless em.

Defenders Of The Triforce LA Tickets

Posted: 07 Feb 2017 08:58 AM PST

I have two tickets to the event this Saturday at 6:30pm. Unfortunately, my partner and I can't go anymore so I'd like to help someone else's Saturday be awesome.

I've heard rumors swirling around this event that there might be a new trailer or some other bit of info or paraphernalia for BotW exclusive to this event.

Inbox me and let's work something out.

Should i actually be hyped for botw?

Posted: 07 Feb 2017 08:22 AM PST

Now i'm not really a real zelda fan, hope to become one with this release but i only know of link and stuff from smash bros and the only zelda game ive played is ocarina of time the 3ds remake and its fun-ish? I haven't finished it and i just beat the first boss, its been okay so far, like i like it but not alot , so is botw gonna be tons better then this? Or not? Maybe the zelda series isnt for me? Im planning on buying botw as it seems to be the only real good game on switch release but i just dont want to be disappointed
