Posted: 06 Feb 2017 08:32 AM PST

Hey all, welcome to Metagame Monday! For anyone who doesn't know the drill, this is a place where you can ask any question about Super Smash Bros. Seriously, anything! We firmly believe there are no stupid questions. We just ask that you put your questions under the appropriate comment below.

Link to last week's MGM Thread.

If you don't mind, would you guys also take a look at last week's Metagame Monday thread to see if any questions went unanswered there? New questions should go here, but I know we have some stragglers' questions that don't get answered each week.

Also be sure to check out our IRC chat! It's a great place to hang out and talk about smash IN REAL TIME.

Posted: 05 Feb 2017 11:08 PM PST

Welcome to the Daily Discussion Thread series on /r/smashbros! Inspired by /r/SSBM and /r/hiphopheads's DDTs, you can post here:

  • General questions about Smash

  • General discussion (tentatively allowing for some off-topic discussion)

  • "Light" content that might not have been allowed as its own post (please keep it about Smash)

Other guidelines:

  • Be good to one another.

  • While DDT can be lax, please abide by our general rules. No linking to illegal/pirated stuff, no flaming, game debates, etc.

  • Please keep your meme spam contained to the sticky comment provided below.

If you have any suggestions about future DDTs or anything else subreddit related, please send them our way! Thanks in advance!

Also, if you want to chat with other /r/smashbros users you can do so via our Discord channel.

Super Smash Bros Charity Tournament for Homeless Veterans

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 08:09 AM PST

Hey all,

I'm a 14 year old boy who loves Smash and the community. All of the amazing things that this community has accomplished and all the incredible things that have happen is remarkable. Truly, there is no other gaming community like Smash.

I attend a Catholic school, in Phoenix ,Arizona, and as an eighth grader we have to do a major project that falls in line with the Catholic Social Teachings. This project is called the Arrupe Project, named after Pedro Arrupe, and we have to create an event that will help the organization I have chosen. The organization that I chose was MANA House (Marine, Air Force, Navy, Army House) and they help with homeless veterans. The number of homeless veterans has been increasing and they help any of them with transitional housing, food, water, and helping them get a career.

This organization is working for a good cause and it is not right that veterans are experiencing homelessness. We, the civilians, have the luxury to live in a house with running water, food, and a comfortable bed while there is veterans on the streets just trying to get by each day.

What I want to do for my event is hold a Smash Bros Tournament and raise money for my organization. I know it's a big task that will require much help which is why I'm posting this on the Smash Bros Reddit page. If there is anybody or any streamers in Phoenix, Arizona that would like to help, please do. I know that there is a Melee scene in Arizona and I' trying to contact some people from the scene to help out. Right now I'm trying to getting set ups and trying to get a venue in my school but the tournament will only be successful if there is people to attend and help a good cause. I haven't decided what Smash game to be based of the tournament but that is the least of my worries. If you, the reader, could spread the word, it will help substantially.

Thanks for reading and much appreciated.

I'm sorry for the spam; final + fixed netplay version of Faster Melee script is out.

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 03:35 PM PST

Hi.

First of all, I apologize for spamming the subreddit in the past few days: 3 posts in 3 days is a bit much. However, in my haste to get rid of git, I ended up completely breaking netplay.

I did a lot of testing today, trying to see if maybe branching into my own repository would help fix this problem, but to no avail -- git is now a hard requirement.

That said, I've cleaned up the files the script needs to redownload, so it's less than 1MB now, plus the git repo you're cloning.

As well, I tested this way, way more than the previous versions: I borrowed a friend's laptop and netplayed myself well over 7 times.

So: If you have an old version of my script, delete the directories it created, as well as the script itself. If you have the very first version, delete ~/.local/share/dolphin-emu and/usr/local/share/dolphin-emu.

After this post, I promise no more posts will appear related to my script here.

Download

I intend to take this script and begin creating .debs with it, as well as versions for other distributions of Linux. Hopefully, with more support Linux will get more than a dismissal on Faster Melee's website and SmashLadder.

Thanks, and sorry again.

Changelog:

  • rewrote script, has to clone + replace files again

  • ensured no ^M

  • ensured can run w/o su privileges

  • NETPLAY WORKS

Smash Summit Friendlies Room stream

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 06:06 AM PST

I don't know who to go to about this, but would there be any way to set up a stream or two in the friendlies room of the Smash Summit house? I don't think there would necessarily have to be audio from the streamers, but I think it would be sick to see some of the friendlies that happen behind the scenes.
