Posted: 19 Feb 2017 04:25 PM PST https://twitter.com/beastseries/status/833468486223540224 Full statement for those who cannot access twitter: Today we witnessed a very traumatic situation at BEAST 7. A competitor and friend to many of us suffered from a cardiac arrest. Ambulances was called to the venue immediately and CPR was exerted by a medical student. The tournament was on hold for about an hour as many were shocked and the staff tried to handle the situation the best we could. Due to hospital policies we don't have any information how the affected person is doing. But we hope and pray that everything is going to be alright. Posted: 19 Feb 2017 04:26 PM PST I've never had so much fun listening to commentary as I did during Beast 7 Top 8 with HMW and Fauster. I'm all for in-depth technical analysis AFTER a set has finished, but most matchups (especially fox dittos) are too fast to accurately break down mid-match, and making it fun for the viewers should be the first priority for a commentator IMO. xpilot Made a Bot that Independently Learned to Dash Dance, L-Cancel, Wavedash, Combo and More Using Deep Reinforcement Learning Posted: 19 Feb 2017 06:59 PM PST For something that was first posted nearly half a year ago, I've always been surprised at how relatively unknown this project is. Seriously, the title I went with probably sounds a little too good to be true. Amazingly enough, it's every bit legitimate! I'm not exactly a CS or AI expert, but this AI (nicknamed Phillip) was developed using a completely different method than more traditional AI's like the vanilla Melee bots, 20XX bots, Project M bots or AltF4's Smashbot. While these AI's were hard-coded (essentially branching trees of explicitly programmed if-else logic), Phillip wasn't "told" how to do anything, so to speak. "It only knows about the control stick (8 directions + neutral) and buttons. Everything else is emergent." If x_pilot sees this, hopefully he'll be able to share some more insight into the more technical details. Just wanted to get the word out there for him and his work. Oh, and not only can you download the AI and play around with it locally- you can even play against it over Netplay! Check out the first and second links below for more info.
