A handful of Gen2 PSA's (PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING) [META]

Posted: 16 Feb 2017 05:12 PM PST

General

  • Second Generation Pokémon were added. Here's a list of the ones that have been discovered by now.

  • There were some server issues, which seem to already be resolved. You might still want to hold off from using shop and transferring/evolving Pokémon though.

  • Just a reminder: extended Lures are still a thing until 18 February. Also, Pokémon storage is half price until 28 February. If you bought Pokémon storage within the last couple days, try your luck and contact support - they might compensate it to you in some way. Maximum Pokémon and item storage still haven't changed from 1000.

  • Some Pokémon nests and spawns have changed.

  • Multi-touch has been disabled which means you can no longer power up past your level or skip through the appraisal screens.

  • If you're feeling lost in the sea of new Pokémon, check out this Gen2 Primer. It includes a Gen2 tier-list, evolution lines, types and Gen1 "equivalents".

Rebalancing/Movesets

Evolving

Catching

Items

  • There are new types of Berries - Pinap (double candies upon next catch), Nanab (slows the Pokémon's moves so it's easier to catch). You can obtain them from Pokéstops. Only one type of Berry can be used on a Pokémon at the same time.

  • There's currently a glitch with Pinap Berries. The game shows that you got one less candy than you should get, but apparently, you still get the proper amount.

  • Level-Up rewards can now contain new items (Pinap and Nanab berries confirmed).

Other gameplay changes

  • As of now, it is not known what Gen2 Pokémon are regionally exclusive, nor if there are any at all.

  • You can hatch Gen2 Pokémon from eggs (Gen2 Egg Chart). Because of how the eggs work though, eggs obtained before Gen2 launch will not hatch Gen2 Pokémon (except Baby Pokémon).

  • Pokemon now have visible gender to the right of the health bar. This could indicate that breeding may come soon!

  • Some Pokémon require less distance to find candies as a Buddy. (Togepi 5km -> 3km)

  • The Johto medal, Delinquent medal (Dark type) and Unown medal have been added.

  • All fainted Pokémon have been revived.

Cosmetic changes

  • The News icon now displays under Tips.

  • There are new avatar customization options. Some of them need to be bought to use.

  • Some Pokémon sprites have been slightly changed.

  • Walking and running animations are changed.

  • Night music theme is changed.

Older changes

I made this post to summarise Gen2 launch changes, but I see a lot of users mentioning much older changes in the comments. Therefore, I'm making this list with older changes so my inbox doesn't get spammed and I can find more relevant changes within the comments.

  • You can transfer multiple Pokémon by long-pressing on any Pokémon and selecting the ones you want to transfer (this has been in since 8th December 2016).

  • Gen1 Egg distribution has changed. For example, Machop, Exeggcute and Pichu now hatch from 2km eggs. This was a part of the previous update, a few days before Gen2 launch.

The thing I believe this game needs most is NPCs

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 04:28 AM PST

It doesn't feel like a living Pokémon world. I always thought NPC encounters that act like pokemon spawns could liven the game while also adding a quest system.

Some NPCs would battle you and you would be rewarded some PokeCoins.

Others would give you quests like "catch x amount of water pokemon in y number of hours."

And others could be travel: "could you drop this off at 'NAME OF POKESTOP OR GYM' for me?"

Someone could ask you to hatch a certain number of eggs in some amount of days.

This is the the change that would make the game most enjoyable to me. Thoughts?

Pokémon GO knows you are too young to view sponsored Pokestops but doesn't know that you are too young to drive a car

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 02:09 PM PST

As the title says, how about an age-limit for the speed-limit, so students are able to play again on the bus, train and car? If Niantic is able to do this with sponsored Pokestops, what does speak against it?

What are your thoughts? Would it make sense?

[Suggestion] Evolution Silhouette

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 04:03 PM PST

Hello guys, I really liked the idea of including the evolution sprite on the evolution button of a pokémon. It's really nice but for me it would make more sense if the silhouette is black only when you don't have the evolution on your pokédex. It would be pretty nice for players like me, that do not have a lot of pokémons, to see what evolutions are lacking on the pokédex just by seeing the silhouette on the evolution button. If we already have it, the sprite should have colors. What do you guys think?

I wish eggs showed the date that you collected them!

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 09:51 AM PST

Everytime I go to hatch an egg, I never know which egg to incubate especially if all I have is 5k eggs. If each egg showed the date that you collected them it would be much easier to select which egg to incubate as you could pick the oldest egg that you have.

The eggs could also show the location of which you got them just like the feature of where you caught a specific Pokémon.

Does anyone else feel as if this is a feature that should be implemented into the game?

P.S. I also wish it told you which generation the egg is but lets get the date added in first..

[Discussion] Would you keep/use Nanab Berries if they decreased flee rate as well?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 02:32 PM PST

Seems like the general consensus is that Nanab Berries are mostly useless and not worth the bag space.

If it decreased the flee rate as well (which kind of makes sense since the berry is supposed to calm the Pokemon down) I think it would be a genuine toss-up between Razz vs Nanab when I'm really trying to catch something.

The "Still No Evolution Items" Club Headquarters

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 06:04 AM PST

Chairman: me. T__T

After several hundred spins since the update, not a single evolution item. What information do we have about rarity of these drops? I've got a fully-leveled 15/15/14 Seadra I'm just itching to evolve so I can have a soft counter to the continuing Vaporeon meta.

Piloswine is a dragonite killer

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 05:55 PM PST

Have two with powder snow and stone edge, and my 1900 pilo with one dodge took down a 3100 dragonite. It is going to be really useful for leveling up gyms.

Does anyone else have a daily mental battle over whether to transfer their Christmas Pikachus?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 05:55 PM PST

I have 7 total.. With 3 of them at 51, 33, and 10 CP. I scroll over them everyday and think.. "WHY AM I KEEPING THESE DAMN THINGS FOR!?" I have almost transferred a couple of times now, but every time I get close to tapping the button, the voice of that guy who made a post about the "rare PokemonGo Pokemon" slips into my head each time, and I just close the app... Defeated.

Gyms should be categorized into Pokémon Trainer Levels, so that players with less level could also enjoy gym battles.

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 07:00 AM PST

I feel like this is pretty obvious. In my city, and in most cities, gyms are being controlled by a certain group of people whose level is above 25/30 with Pokémons at over 2000 CP. Now, I understand that gyms, in the game, are supposed to be controlled by the STRONGEST of trainers, but in a game like Pokémon Go, not being able to participate in gym battles (which are the only type of battles we have so far) takes away a HUGE portion of the game to the low-level trainers.

My suggestion is having different types of gyms, that can only be used by a certain interval of levels. For example, a gym where only trainers from 0 to level 10 can interact to, then other gyms where its from 0 to 20 , 0 to 30, etc. Now you can say: "Well then people who have put in time to get to high level will now lose the opportunity to battle in gyms because of the other low-level peasants", but, as a suggestion to fix that, the same gym could have "sections" for the different types of gyms.

For example, a gym in a park has different sections: One for the under level 10, other for the under level 20, etc, all in the same gym, so it wouldn't "take away" gyms that are currently being used by high-levels.

I hope you can understand what I mean, as I feel like the text is a bit sloppy (fkin english). But I can further explain the comment if you want me to. Also, I know this may be asking for much, but it's just a suggestion like many others that can be change and improved by others.

Does Niantic control the weather?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 06:46 AM PST

Fact: Gen2 gets released on the 16th of February 2017.

Fact: The high temperature in Neenah, Wisconsin on Saturday (the first post-release weekend) was 57 degrees F, exceeding the previous all-time record by 7 degrees F.

Fact: Normal High Temperature for that location and date is 29 degrees F.

Fact: The warmer temperatures meant that Pokémon Go players were flooding the parks, and spending money.

Conclusion: Niantic controls the weather.

Thought for the Day: Niantic can control the weather, but it took them months to roll out a functional tracker.

Is anyone else kind of hoping that the legendary doggos (Suicune, Entei, Raikou) roam the world like the original G/S/C games?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 08:09 PM PST

I know some people would definitely be upset because there'd be no guaranteed way to get them, but I think having them roam that way would be really cool and make finding one even more special. Maybe other legendaries could be event rewards, but I think leaving those three as world-roamers could be pretty cool, even if you could track them somehow (like with the pokedex in G/S/C).

Just thought I would share Kurt Cobain's Pokéstop at the Wishkah River and his old house, in Aberdeen, Washington. He would've turned 50 today. Thanks Kurt for all the great music, long live Nirvana and Pokémon GO. PS I once caught a Dragonite there :]

Something... weird, happened?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 03:13 PM PST

Hey there, r/PokemonGo

So something a bit strange happened, and I'd love to know you guys' take on it.

So, around November, I stopped playing Pokemon Go for a bit. I just kinda got bored of it. However, after this newest update, I figured 'screw it, I'mma play a bit'...

and I had... Pokemon?

Like, Pokemon I didn't have before?

Like... Hitmonlee, and Hitmonchan... and Electrode, and like fourteen Slowbro... and Arcanine, and stuff? Like stuff I definitely didn't have when I quit?

So I looked over my recent tab, and here's what happened:

The day I quit, someone apparently logged in as me in New York, and proceeded to catch 5-6 Pokemon. Then, that person logged in the next day as me, and caught a Pokemon in New York, followed by a bunch over the next three days in South Wales, Austrailia.

And then they stopped. They had access to my account apparently, but after those three days, they just didn't log into my account anymore.

Before anyone says anything, I've already changed my Pokemon Trainer Club password, but... my device automatically logged in anyway when I started up yesterday, which means whoever 'hacked' my account didn't change my password.

They also didn't change my name, or clothes, or release any Pokemon or anything, they didn't edit my email address... the only thing they seemed to do was transfer out my Pikachus and turn them into a Riachu... I mean, maybe some other stuff that I just didn't notice, but nothing screams 'this account has been hacked' except that I have new Pokemon.

Does this sound like something anyone else has experienced? I'm genuinely confused what I'm supposed to make of this. As far as I can tell, someone in New York hacked my account to catch Pokemon in Australia for me for three days. If they had tried to keep access somehow, by changing my password or something, I'd feel differently, but they didn't.

They just... caught some Pokemon for three days on my account and didn't touch it again.

Does anyone have any insight to help me understand this or rationalize this? I'm so confused why someone would hack me just to help me out?

Discussion/Idea: You should be able to check which gyms your Pokemon are in without going to the gym location.

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 08:35 PM PST

Maybe when viewing the pokemon clicking the Gym icon on the CP curve should show you the name and circle photo of the gym location.

I'd love to be able to know what gym a Pokemon is in without having to remember or write it down. I typically have 3-4 pokemon in gyms and I have around 11 different gyms that I frequently stop at during my regular daily/weekly activities and commutes and it's not exactly practical to drive around and check all those gyms after I get a pokemon back that has been KO'd.

Where is Mareep?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 06:02 AM PST

Ampharos is one is my favorite Gen 2 pokemon, and I assumed I would get him after finding enough Mareep. I also assumed that Mareep would be a semi-common pokemon (like Oddish or something) but I've yet to even see a single one on sightings. After an entire day in central park and New York City, I caught Sudowoodoos, Skarmories, Houndours, and many others that I would think would be more rare. Has anyone not even seen a trace of a Mareep? Because at this rate, it might be a while before I get an Ampharos.

[Idea] Held Items on Wild Pokemon

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 10:21 AM PST

In Pokemon Games sometimes Wild Pokemon would be holding items. Wouldn't it be nice to find that in Pokemon Go?

'Berries grow in the wild.'

A Pokemon holding onto a berry snack maybe? Some Pokemon in the games hold berries when you capture them (Oran Berries, Sitrus, Lum, etc.) so why not our in-game berries (Razz, Nanab and Pinap)? It would definitely be helpful/convenient to have a chance rate to get berries outside of pokestops if one does not live around many/any pokestops as they can only be obtained that way while pokeballs and other items of the like can be obtained via shop.

What about maybe an evolution item?

Horseas in the Pokemon Series currently have a 5% chance of holding Dragon Scales for instance. In Pokemon Gold/Crystal/Silver Slowpoke had an 8% chance of holding a Kings Rock.

Of course it would be up for Niantic to decide about this - but I think it would be a clever idea? Not every Horsea or Slowpoke would carry one - but what if you don't take the chance? You could be missing out if you don't catch that Slowpoke/Horsea...

I'm not sure how coding would work but I guess it could go like [HELDITEM_YES] [HELDITEM_NO] [HELDITEM_XBERRY] [HELDITEM_DRAGONSCALE] [HELDITEM_KINGSROCK] and so forth. I want to know your thoughts too! Would this be an idea you'd like to possibly see in the future?

An update many would (hopefully) get behind.

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 08:20 PM PST

The biggest struggle for me when this game came out was the location in which I lived. I live quite literally in the middle of no where, and the closest town with any pokéstops or Pokémon is about a 5 minute drive down the road and even then there isn't much there.

I would love to see an update where poke stops aren't just tied to specific land marks and Pokémon don't just show up in areas with high population.

Perhaps a way to make items appear in rural areas would be to "find" items on the ground like you do in a real game and have it tied to how many steps or miles you walk.

I have unfortunately stopped playing because of where I live and work there isn't much to do. I want to play more but this game literally only caters to people living in cities and towns.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Edit: A word Edit 2: clarification

Feature suggestion: show HP amounts on revive and potion screens

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 08:00 PM PST

After a day of battling, it can take a long time to revive and potion up all of my Pokémon. I often have to bounce between screens to see how much HP each 'mon needs--if 41-50 HP is needed, use a super; if >120 HP is needed, use a hyper. Do I want to use a revive and a hyper potion for that Vaporeon or a Max Revive?

I wish I could see the HP values on the revive and potion screens so I didn't have to bounce over to look at the Pokémon stats to make these decisions. Just showing the HP numbers on those screens would address that.

Had a major throwback this past Sunday

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 08:22 AM PST

So I was walking through the local park with my girlfriend yesterday, enjoying the nice weather while playing Pokémon go. When we passed the park's bulletin board, we came across a relic from the early days of Pokémon go.

http://i.imgur.com/Jpqt9bL.jpg

Some good hearted fella' took the time to make this sign (and a few others that didn't withstand the winter and were too damaged to read) sometime in the early weeks of the game. Gotta' love the Pokémon go community.

With all of the new clothing options I'd really like to see a PoGo+ on my avatar.

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 12:35 PM PST

Even if I had to pay for it I would. I already bought the glasses to make my avatar look more like me IRL. It would be cool if he could wear the watch or even have it clipped to his back pack strap. Even better they could make it so that he's only wearing it while the plus is connected.
I paid $30 for this watch, I'll pay another buck or two for the digital version.

Why does Spinarak need 50 candy to evolve when Ledyba only needs 25?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 12:43 AM PST

Why does Spinarak need 50 candy to evolve when Ledyba only needs 25? They are counter parts within the main series games (their evolved forms have the same bst, encounter locations and are version exclusive)

Is anyone having serious stability issues with the iPhone app?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 12:24 PM PST

I'm running the latest version on an iPhone 7 Plus, and it crashes constantly - usually when I click on a Pokemon to try and catch it. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the app, logging out and logging back in, restarting my iPhone...and nothing seems to work.
