So I decided to try making 3d Minecraft models and I made this.

IF Minecraft suddenly stopped being developed for no reason, what would be the ONE thing that you would most regret not having been added?

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 01:23 PM PST

WARNING: UNPOPULAR OPINION: Personally, I would have wished that there was a world gen revamp implemented with underground biomes, sea level at Y 90 something, and cooler terrain features. Sort of like what they discussed for PE/Win 10 at Minecon. But that's just me. What would YOU most regret not having been added?

Oceans need some love

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 09:12 AM PST

Minecraft oceans are great, but they are so... empty, I feel like it's time that they get some love, like for example a fish mob that the squids attack (would explain where the fish you get with a rod come from) maybe some seaweed/ coral reefs, just something to make it more lively, if there are llamas in the game, the ocean deserves at least a fish or two.

Oh and water breathing/ night vision on beacons would be amazing

Extreme Nostalgia for this game

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 12:14 PM PST

When I was 11 or 12 in my European 8th grade, I was really friendly with this one guy. we both picked up Minecraft. Soon other friends would join in too. I have great memories of us searching through dozens of MCSG servers, installing my first texture pack, getting into fights and arguements with each other over diamonds that went missing on a faction server and more.

We got a bit older and started playing other games after a couple of years, and since then i've only really played some skywars on my own. But when i accidentally came across a Minecraft - Volume Alpha song named Subwoofer Lullaby (which I remembered as Libary), I got really nostalgic. It's weird that those old times playing on those MCSG servers and arguing about diamonds really shaped me into the person I am today in some aspects. It just hurts to know that those incredibly fun experiences I had, can never really be relived. The game feels to complex to me now, the dozens of individual MCSG servers are now all in one lobby, and there are barely any players on there anymore.

Life was so simple and meaningless back then.

I was wondering if more people have this feeling. Cheers to everyone that played on those old MCSG servers back in the day.

Veteran players; what do you miss about the terrain before Beta 1.8?

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 02:24 PM PST

I joined the game in Beta 1.5_01 and didn't travel much, for fear of getting lost and dying. But frequenting this sub for two years, I've seen users post screenshots from their long-lost Indev, Alpha, and Beta saves. Everyone seems to love the giant mountains and overhangs and large floating islands that aren't very frequent anymore. Building was apparently different too, probably due to the lack of tall grass of thick forest to hack down.

  • What are some memories you have with the older versions of the game?
  • How have both building and exploring changed between then and now?
  • How would you change the current terrain and/or game - if you would?

With my grandad, created a generic Caribbean island with three plantations for University slavery project, plan to introduce to schools.

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 09:44 AM PST

Hello!

I work for a University, and as an ex-teacher was keen to create something with my new colleagues that could have an impact in classrooms. Getting my grandad onboard was the first step, and he has done an amazing job creating a generic Caribbean island, with three 17th-18th century plantations, a pen (basically a farm for livestock) and docks. He has created realistic ships to show how tightly packed the slaves were on their journey across the seas, and the pens and auction dais on the docks provide an impactful vision of what was to come when they landed. He has done this with input from academics, experts in their field, and the project is very nearly finished, and I wanted to start getting some pictures and short videos together for advertising it etc.

The purpose of the project is to provide schools and their students with a visual representation of what the island and plantations looked like - though it is a popular topic, many of Britain's school kids will not really have a plausible mental model, or image, of what the plantations looked like. While Minecraft cannot convey the level of depradation and despair the slaves lived in, it can display the disparity between masters and slaves dwellings, the size of the fields and the general layout. It will come with learning materials, lesson plans and readings of primary sources, and we hope to persuade some colleagues from that area to record short clips for Youtube.

The map will be free to download to schools, and the general public.

That's the back story - I didn't want anyone assuming we made plantations to relive slavery. I'm having trouble capturing a good image of the world though - there are large chunks of white (instead of fog) in the background, and even when I go over and 'render' the area, it means another area turns to white. I've tried fiddling around with the settings, render distance up to 32 chunks etc. but nothing seems to make a difference.

Any help would be appreciated.

TL;DR Does anyone have any experience of taking nice photos to show off a world, as my laptop is struggling to render all the areas, leaving glaring patches of white.

Mob Spawner farm now killing mobs, did something change?

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 01:06 PM PST

I built a skeleton farm a long time ago around a skeleton spawner where water pushes them down to a collection area where I then kill them for XP. This thing had worked great for the last few months but in the last week or so, probably half of the skeletons who drop are killed on impact. Has something changed that caused this?
