An ESO love story for Valentines Day

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 11:28 AM PST

This story starts way back in September, 17 months ago.

At the time I played a good amount of PvP on a max magicka sorcerer on DC. My "thing" at the time was to take Kingscrest Lumbermill, flag the keep, and try to 1vX the hordes of EP that come out like a survival game.

While doing this, one group of 2-3 players showed up almost every time I did it. I started getting friendly with them. They would start emoting with me and watching me defend the flag from other EP. Some friendly alliance to alliance interactions.

But, one day, I was defending the flag and wasn't looking at names. I killed one of my EP friends. I felt bad, and also took this opportunity for some harmless alliance war banter, so I sent a mail to them. The mail contained 50 grand soul gems and 69 gold, it said "Here's something for dying, and you can use it for the other EP you watch me kill for some AP".

Then I got a mail response, which surprised me. It has the item Bloodstone and said "You killed me, spilled my blood, and broke my heart </3". So I responded with another mail using items names within the message. So something along the lines of "I had [Lorkhan's Tears] down my face when I killed you. Take a [Rose] and a [Grand Repair Kit] for your heart".

This continued for about 2 weeks straight, multiple mails a day. Then I can't remember exactly how but it suddenly stopped. No mails, no Kingscrest, nothing. And to top it off my new "thing" was using a stamina Templar in werewolf form to try and 1vX groups doing Molag Bal in the sewers.

I soon forgot about it and resumed playing ESO. But, about 2 months later in late November, I decided to go on the ESO twitch page. I scrolled past the top streamers like Sypher, Fengrush, and King Richard. I want to follow and give some views to the little guys. So as I scroll down I stop at something that catches my eye. A name, the same name I sent mails to.

I open the twitch page and immediately ask "are you the one from Kingscrest Lumbermill that I sent mails back and forth to?". She said yes and loved them, and was sad when they stopped. I stayed around for a while and talked in the twitch chat. Then slowly over time I went there more often. At some point we both started new characters on DC for Blackwater Blade.

From that point onward we played ESO together almost everyday. Using TeamSpeak all the time too, we started to get more contact with each other when she was not streaming. Over time this slowly developed into us adding each other on Skype so we can communicate outside of ESO more reliably.

Well, one thing lead to another, and now we are having a conversation about pursuing a long distance relationship. I live 90 minutes outside New York and she lived in western Canada. We were both very attracted to each other physically, emotionally, and when playing video games together.

So, we both agree we continue with a long distance relationship and meet for the first time in-person in April 2016. It goes amazingly and have no doubt we are perfect for each other. We meet again in August 2016 in Canada, and again over Christmas 2 months ago. And now, as of January 22nd, we are living together here in the US. We both have some usual bumps because of long distance, but know it is was worth the pain.

So now we play ESO right next to each other and are having an amazing time making a house together with the update. We are also now engaged, I've never been happier in my life. I proposed to her on January 29th, the 1 year anniversary of us adding each other on sources outside ESO.

A picture of us together in New York City the day before New Years . And one of us on Christmas day in pajamas.

And during our long distance relationship she got me an amazing gift related to ESO. It is a map of Tamriel, but it is marked with a heart and the words "where we met" next to it. The bottom of the heart is like a map pin pointing to Kingscrest Lumbermill. It was a great gift, and will forever hang on our walls.

I'm just excited that she and I saw this through and are happy together. I just want to tell people about this, and let it be known that ESO is the reason two people across the continent fell in love with each other.

We always make the jokes that we are together because "I killed her". Then when the people we are talking to get a strange and disgusted look we break the silence and tell them it was on a video game. But it's always very fun explaining to people how we met <3 .

Here are a few pictures of us in our house in ESO

Thanks for reading, everyone!

Instead of getting him flowers, I made my boyfriend a Nirnroot from tissue paper and watercolors!

Allow us to have our characters who aren't logged in to wander our homesteads.

If they are shared across characters anyway then why not?

For all the times someone asked "Is it worth to play ESO now?"

I'm kinda screwed??

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 03:38 PM PST

I just made a high elf dude and skipped the tutorial. Saw a suspicious khajiit that wanted me to do some shady business. I declined and went around exploring, and then started randomly punching things because I was so excited to play this game. But then I punched a khajiit dude and now everyone is killing me, even after I die and I come back they chase after me. So then I ran towards the waters and am now stranded in a shipwreck cause I don't know how to escape my bounty and a thunderbug electrocuted me. At least I started out the game wearing shackles in case they do arrest me.

Also I punched a random khajiit standing on a rock thinking he was a player. Turns out he wasn't. But I was so far away, didn't think my punch could reach like a meter in front of me! Why are there so many khajiits here? I thought I would start out in a high elf place.

S.O.S.

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the wonderful replies! I have disabled attacking innocents and am now looking around for a fence. My gold is red though, so I think I am in a deficit? :O

Let the hirelings deliver to our home instead of mail!

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 06:36 PM PST

That woud be great! A stack of boxes that we can place where the hirelings of all chars deliver to. No need to login on the char to get the mail. You woud only need to visit your house.

Disabled gamer looking for help!

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 08:41 AM PST

Hi! I recently installed ESO on my mac and I could use some help configuring things.

First some background. I'm paralyzed from the neck down and I play screensharing my mac onto my iPad using Splashtop. Then by holding a long iPad stylus in my mouth to use my iPad as touchscreen computer.

My question is, is there a way to set up my interface to be more similar to WoW? Specifically with action bars and having my character rotate just by using the arrow keys. It's difficult for me to play having to aim my character like an fps and hitting the buttons on my keyboard.

If you guys know of any solutions it'd be great appreciated!

[Discussion] What homestead house offers the most perks?

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 11:04 PM PST

I know all houses are functionally the same, but I'm curious as to what the best house is for convenience purposes.

Rate by:
Proximity to wayshrine
Proximity to bank
Proximity to crafting stations
Proximity to stable
Cost
Ease of required quest completion
Other

Thus far, it seems to me that Humblemud is the best purchase.

Humblemud:
Proximity to wayshrine: About a 30 second run.
Proximity to bank: Bank is co-located with crafting stations across the street
Proximity to crafting stations: Crafting stations are in a large building across the street
Proximity to stable: No stable nearby :(
Cost: 40k
Ease of required quest completion: Just the basic housing quest
Other: It looks like a massive dung pile.

Just got back into the game after a long absence and it's fantastic!

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 04:15 PM PST

I was among the people who jumped into ESO around Beta, but ended up very disappointed shortly after launch. I won't repeat the long litany of grievances that have already been discussed to death, just say that, for me, the straw that broke the camel's back were the bugged quests, particularly the moments when I'd end up stuck in dialogue with some NPC or other. I unsubscribed, went back to FFXIV and GW2 and that was that.

Then One Tamriel came along and though I was tempted, I didn't have enough time for another game. Then the announcement of Homestead and again, I was tempted, since I'm a crafter and a dedicated decorator in most MMOs. But again, I resisted, citing the lack of time and the fear that I'd be disappointed again.

...Then came details of the Morrowind expansion and I finally cracked. For background, TES III was my first entry into the series and is still my favorite one by far -- and my favorite game in general. I reinstalled ESO and got a subscription so I wouldn't have to deal with all the hassle of crafting mat management. And my God, it's fantastic! With the bugs that drove me up the wall at launch quashed, all the added content (the ability to steal everything that's not bolted down to the floor, for example) and the level-scaling, I'm having a ridiculous amount of fun! Even the combat feels more responsive now and it's similar enough to GW2 (limited ability bar, dedicated dodge button etc) that I picked it up very quickly. Now that I've cut my teeth on the crafting system, I'm spending almost as much time resource-hunting and leveling up the crafting skill trees as I am messing around with other content.

But the best moment by far was when I was questing in Stonefalls. I'd played DC at launch and barely made it into the game, so Stonefalls was largely unknown to me. It was early morning and the sun was rising in a golden haze from all of the ash particles in the air. I moved closer to Ash Mountain for a quest, the skies darkened and the visibility dropped as an ash-storm hit. In that moment, with the howling of the wind, the flying ash in the air, the grey, sparse ground and the gnarled, twisted trees all around, it was as if I was transported fifteen years in the past and back into the Ashlands of TES III, back when my biggest concern was studying for tests and dealing with secondary school cliques. It was a magical moment and not something I've run into often in gaming.

[PC][Steam] New player help: Out of date client

Posted: 15 Feb 2017 12:51 AM PST

So here's my problem: I bought the game yesterday, downloaded it and installed it then tried to start it, the zenimax client installation would load fully but then nothing would happen. I managed to start the game by disabling my firewall + anti-virus as well as running it as administrator straight from the directory. However when I attempt to login with the account I made through their website I get the message "INVALID CLIENT: You've attempted to use an invalid client or out-dated client. Please exit and update your client using the patcher".

So I'm pretty stuck and confused at the moment, I've reinstalled the game four times and I still have an out-dated client, I don't think I can download the game from the website since my purchase was through steam. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated! (and if this isn't the place for this type of posts I apologize)
