Is it just me or has this sub sucked lately?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 07:43 AM PST

Content on here has been fucking bad lately. If I'm the only person who thinks this downvote me to oblivion.

Edit: I could give a shit less about karma. That's not the reason why I posted this. It's frustrating to see semi-decent posts get zero attention when the generic meme posts get to the front page and take up half of the front page.

For laning stages at times you walk home, don't go all the way to fountain, use base shrines, they heal way faster and aren't as far away!

List of hero facial expressions that have been added recently

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 10:16 AM PST

I guess some of us have already noticed these new facial expressions, but I am trying to make a complete list of what has changed to the loadout animations. Since so many have been added, I was thinking that this could be a huge feature in upcoming versions, or just a cleaning up for every hero.

Anti-Mage seems to be either a bit confused or just very focused.

Batrider looks very excited and happy.

Bloodseeker has now an open mouth, I guess because of the thirst for blood.

Brewmaster is a bit too "happy", maybe he just drank too much.

Centaur Warrunner can't really hold his anger and clearly wants his enemies dead.

Death Prophet looks way more evil now, having this evilish grin.

Drow Ranger has more facial expressions as it seems, some of them are more common.

Earthshaker doesn't just stand still forever anymore, he is now looking around.

Enchantress has one of the oldest facial expressions added if I remember correctly, she was the first hero where I saw something different.

Lina gives us a nice smile and now looks around rather than standing still, like Earthshaker.

Lion looks like he is trying to be though but I just think his face is now distorted a bit, his eyes look way bigger.

Medusa looks like she really wants to bite somebody.

Mirana is very curious, happy, and expresses a lot of more emotions, she seems to have the most facial expressions for now (or just a really long animation for one).

Necrophos has a new facial expression, but this one seems to be permanent.

Ogre Magi is breathing heavier now, and they seem slightly happier than before.

Phantom Assasin's model looks different, she looks like she is better defined now, people described her as too shiny. She also seems to be a bit happier and not that serious.

Pudge has a way bigger mouth now when loading, and he seems to be burping sometimes. (It's so rare that I am still trying to get a good gif of it)

Queen of Pain sometimes plays with her knife and is looking very excited about it.

Skywrath Mage seems to be worrying a bit about something.

Templar Assassin seems to be worried, but I am not clearly sure if it's a new animation.

Troll Warlord has also one of the oldest facial expressions added, after his remodel I noticed he also smiles evilish sometimes.

Ursa's mouth sometimes shakes very little, maybe a sign of anger. is showing his teeth which is a sign of aggression in animals.

Windranger has a similar face expression of Drow Ranger's, she seems cute.

Winter Wyvern also seems to be curious and looks around way too much, but I am not sure if this was before or it's new.

Sign-Ups for Season 11 of the Redditors' Dota 2 League Are Now Open!

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 08:41 AM PST

RD2L is kicking off their 11th Season! This season runs from March until June. Signups end on Friday, March 3rd.

What is RD2L?

The Redditors' Dota 2 League (RD2L) is a casual and competitive league for individual players of all skill levels. It's a great way to experience organized Dota 2 without the heavy time commitments and scheduling uncertainty involved in forming a team for a typical league.

You can either sign up as a captain or a player. Captains get to draft from the available players in their division to form a team of 7 (6 + captain). This team plays through an 8 week season culminating in an inter-divisional playoff for the top teams in each division. Each week your team plays a Captain's Mode BO2 against a team of similar skill.

Why Play RD2L?

  • All skill levels welcome! While the average MMR in RD2L is high 3k - low 4k, we have players from 1k - 6k in the league. More experienced players can improve their team work, communication, and leadership skills while helping the lower MMR players improve their game skills.
  • Balanced matches. By drafting teams (similar to fantasy football), teams tend to be generally even in overall player skill. Also, regular season matchmaking pits teams with similar records against each other each week to avoid unbalanced matchups.
  • A great way to build a stack. Through inhouses and regular season matches, build a group of friends to stack and queue with. Teams made up of RD2L players regularly play in Battlecups, AD2L, JDL, and Valve Event Qualifiers.
  • Develop your captaining and leadership skills. Whether you captain this season or are mentored by one, RD2L is a great place to improve at CM. Drafting, strategy, and team play are all much more important than your average ranked pub game.

Signing up:

Captain and Player Sign-Ups and Information: Captains get to draft players and run their team. New captains must be at least 3k solo MMR (4k in CET-WED), and must be approved by an admin vouch.

Players sign up to be drafted into a team. To sign up as a player you must have played at least 500 games and have 250 wins. Your steam profile / dota stats must also be public to successfully sign up. There is no minimum MMR for players.

Sign-ups work on a first come first serve basis. The number of players we can support each season is limited by the number of captains that sign up, so being a captain is the best way to ensure you get a spot. (However, we typically ask for volunteers from returning players and previous captains if more are needed after sign-ups end, so don't feel pressure to sign-up as a captain.) If as a player you go undrafted, you can still be added to a team that needs you during the season as a Free Agent.

Season 11 Schedule

If you're having signup issues, refer to this FAQ for troubleshooting. If that doesn't work, send a message to an admin in Discord. Please have screenshots or other helpful information for identifying and resolving the problem.

Divisions:

When you sign up you will choose a division for a day/time where you'll be regularly available. For the entire regular season, your matches will start at the same time on the same night of the week! For example, the EST-SUN division plays every Sunday on US East Servers at 9 PM EST.

Divisions list:

Match Time Server Days
9 PM CET EU West Wednesday or Saturday
9 PM EST US East Sunday or Monday
9 PM PST US West Sunday or Monday

The RD2L In-House League

The RD2L IHL provides a way to play competitively between matches and before/after the season starts.

IHL rules and sign-ups can be found here.

Once you have signed up you can then participate in lobbies like this hosted on EUW and USE. All ranked IH games will be played on our IH Ticket.

Games are typically organized through our Discord servers. You can find the invites to both the EU and NA servers on the sidebar of /r/redditdota2league.

If you have any questions you can always send me a PM via reddit or find me in Discord and PM me there.

Rant about Kiev Major by Russian peasant

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 10:07 AM PST

First of all - everything you're going to read is not meant to insult or Ukranians in any way. I despise political jokes, accusations, generalisations and pointing fingers - it has nothing to do with videogames. I've been always staying away from politics and Dota 2 is the only e-sport I've ever cared about this much. Hence the frustration.

Dear Valve, I enjoy events you are making for more than 5 years now, ever since the first International when you made me to change my mind about Dota once and for all (I didn't like it at all when it was in Warcraft 3). It's pretty good. Next whole new step for me was discovering the English streams of those events with English production teams. After sticking for a couple of years to quite subpar (in my taste) Russian commentary I've discovered a whole new world of enjoyable personalities, quality analytics and dank memes. Never looked back ever since - Purge, Slacks, Redeye. Tobi-Wan, Sheever and many more became my companions in the world of competitive Dota. You guys rock. At this point you probably have an idea what a possibility to attend a Valve-organised event would mean to me.

Why Ukraine, Valve? Of all places you could treat the fans from CIS with a Major you've chosen the place most inaccessible for the vast majority of people from this region. There was a thread with a guide to Kiev for visitors from abroad - people over there were excited about traveling, low prices and the fact of attending the Major so much that it got me excited as well, I thought: "Hey, this is actually my chance to experience all of this that I've only been watching on my phone at nights for years!" (timezones kinda suck when it comes to watching streams).

And then I did my research. And it got me pretty depressed.

For a young man from Russia without any friends or relatives in Kiev it is nearly impossible to cross the border of Ukraine. It's not always have been like that, before you-know-what it just took half an hour to cross the border. Kiev is basically 8 hours of driving away from my place, dammit! I can only afford so much, but Major is across the border and out of my reach. I believe that applies to thousands of Russians who would want to come to the event. Yet Ukranians can come to Russia as they always were able to.

If you wanted to make an event in CIS region, Valve, you should probably do as much research as I did and pick a place that's accessible for all of us. Hope Russian teams with their friends and family will make it alright to Kiev. Well, at least I won't need to stay up all night to watch the stream.

TL;DR Russian peasant is upset because he is not able to cross the border because of political reasons he never cared about, attend the Kiev Major and meet the people he adored for years in person.

EDIT: Thanks for anyone who gave me practical advice - to make friends online. I'm a bit awkward socially and I'll have to overcome some trust issues but thanks for the idea anyway, I really appreciate it.

The Roller Coaster Ride That Happens With Every BSJ Post

Posted: 19 Feb 2017 06:27 PM PST

Every time I see a BSJ post, I'm flooded with a roller coaster ride of emotions. Here's how it always goes:

Anticipation - Someone submits a post titled something like "Insane BSJ Next-Level Play". What's it going to be? A good play or some joke?

Hesitation - Now even though I've been burned many times in the past, I still click the link thinking I will see an ultra-mega rampage while BSJ is high-fiving ixmike and making out with some random chick in the background.

Concentration - I watch the video with my full focus, only to see BSJ screwed up in some way.

Confusion - I'm confused because the title of the post is about what a great play it was, but the video makes me think it's just trying to make fun of BSJ. I watch the clip multiple times to make sure I didn't miss anything, but my 2K brain isn't sure what's happening.

Relief - I then head to the comments to see what I missed. The top comment is always "Another next level play by BSJ".

More Confusion - While the top comment tells me it was a great play, again, what did I miss? All I see is him screwing up.

Superiority - The next few comments are people making fun of BSJ and asking how a 7K player could ever make a play like that. But I know better than those 1K noobs.

Enlightenment - Scroll down, and there's always a very detailed comment explaining what is REALLY going on. "BSJ feeds to the weaver, so that when SF kills weaver, SF gets more gold. BSJ helping his team every way he can". There it is! My 2K brain finally comprehends the true nature of this sick mind game.

Jubilation - My faith in BSJ has been confirmed, and he is indeed the most selfless team player Dota 2 has ever seen.

Reddit Creates a Hero 3 - Day 3 - The Second Ability (W)

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 09:05 AM PST

Day 1

Day 2

The community has chosen /u/Ray57 's idea, who decided that Dellezar's first ability would be Quality Time, a passive that alters his cooldowns and the durations of his abilities.

Today, we'll be designing his second skill. Often times, this skill is used for a summon (Beastmaster's Hawk / Boar and Undying's Tombstone), mobility (Monkey King's Tree Dance / Primal Spring and Tusk's Snowball), a nuke (Arc Warden's Spark Wraith and Zeus' Thunderbolt), or utility (Dazzle's Shallow Grave and Oracle's Fate's Edict), and this skill is usually the hero's most-used skill with multiple purposes throughout the game, both offensive and defensive, and may even be considered a second ultimate for some heroes.

What does a hero truly need? That is for you to decide.

Keep in consideration that your ideas, if popular enough, will be adapted into the game via The Next Generation.

Name: Dellezar, Father Time

Lore: Hailing from the same realm as faceless void, Dellezar delved into the idea of aging and the fundamentals of the passage of time something his realm was detached from. Dellezar searches for the true purpose of time and the universe itself and why only his realm is without it? Is it a punishment from the gods or is his realm alone the home of the creators, the original beings? Is his realm cursed to be ageless or gifted with immortality?

Melee/Ranged: Ranged

Design: Wise intelligence guy, sort of a wispy otherworldly dude. has abilities that are influenced by the ingame clock that have stronger or weaker effects depending on the current time. Probably a supportive character.

Q Quality Time
Ability Passive
Affects Self
Damage N/A
Range -
Radius -
Extra Effects

Time is a loyal servant of Dellezar. It is simultaneously both faster and slower.

Cool-downs are progressively reduced and ability durations are increased.

Level Effects
1 -10% CD reduction; +10% Ability duration
2 -13% CD reduction; +13% Ability duration
3 -15% CD reduction; +15% Ability duration
4 -17% CD reduction; +17% Ability duration

I have an idea for a skill that I didn't post in the last thread, a conglomeration of /u/Ray57 and /u/thingzhaa 's suggestions from last thread, and can be read here. And in the last thread /u/klaw146 posted his original concept for Dellezar, which can be read here.

If you had a suggestion that didn't do very well last thread, you can post it again.

So, today we will consider all the factors listed above and come up with the second spell for this hero. Remember, for a post to be considered, it must use the template used below. You may edit said template as much as you want to. If you are having trouble with formatting tables properly, feel free to contact me or a moderator.

If you are having trouble using it, click this link and copy the text.
