I have been waiting a LONG time to do this to my wife.

Posted: 07 Feb 2017 08:22 AM PST

Dont post much, but I follow the sub on a daily basis. I have seen many of the Taken Phalanx Troll initiations. I hoped one day I could post my own.

Backstory.....I am a pretty avid Destiny player. Been with it since the beginning. Only thing I have not accomplished in the game is a lighthouse trip...but...this moment beats out all the Destiny experiences I have had. The spousal unit has had to hear me talk to her about it for over two years now. She has heard of all my significant weapons drops and all the funny moments I have had. She could never really understand, but she always smiled and let me talk anyway. Fast forward to about a little over a week ago.......she said she was interested in playing Destiny, as a thing we can do together. I am super excited by this point and I amped myself up for the Phalanx moment. We finally got to that mission and my heart is pounding and I am doing my best to remain calm so she doesn't suspect anything. "OK, where do I go now?" she says. "Right over to that ledge, but its pretty small and both of us wont make it......only one at a time. You first, I will stay here to get your revive if you don't make the jump." says me.

GIFv

Xbox Clip

The best moment in Destiny for me! It almost didn't work....she put up a hell of a fight. I dont know what was funnier to me, the panic grenade or the fact that she was still shooting on the way out.

For those wondering, she is currently sitting at 374 and her first nightfall reward.....MIDA. I waited for so long before I finally got that gun in Y1. She still has LOTS to learn as it is her first FPS.....but we are getting there and I do believe she is officially hooked.

Young Wolf's Howl (LEGO Build+Video)

Posted: 07 Feb 2017 07:16 AM PST

Hey there fellow Guardians!

I of course have always wanted to do a life-size weapon from the game, and thought I'd start off with something a bit simpler (in terms of details). I actually started this a few weeks after RoI dropped, but pushed it back to finish The Divide (and had struggled to find a solution for maintaining the strength of the build while still having the sword light up).

Imgur Album - YouTube Video

I don't have a digital (LDD) file for this one at the moment, sadly haven't had the time to whip one up, but there is a bit of a breakdown in the video that shows what the majority of the core/structure is like.

Enjoy!

Captured ogre in wretched eye strike drops exotics

Posted: 07 Feb 2017 12:37 AM PST

My mate /u/livesunlimited worked out that if you kill the ogre at the end of the wretched eye strike it burns a 3oC, so we set about farming it until we had an engram drop, fortunately it only took 5 attempts.

Theres a very small window to kill the ogre after koviks dies so when the bosses health was low my mate would go into his menu and hover over his 3oC while i finished off the boss, when he was dead and the 3oC was active he'd then 1 shot the ogre with nighthawk.

The part i found really interesting was that the ogre doesn't even have a health bar or name but apparently still counts as an ultra.

Anyways hope you enjoy, and happy farming should you choose to try it out for yourself

Become Legend - Weekly Tips for Nightfall/Heroics/Shaxx/Tier 12

Posted: 07 Feb 2017 02:01 AM PST

Intro

This is a revised edition of the Weekly Guides I used to do. I think most players get the gist of what to do from week to week so this is a toned down version with only worthwhile information or uncommon but useful strategies.

Nightfall - Dust Palace

Modifiers

  • Epic
  • Void Burn
  • Berserk
  • Ironclad
  • Catapult

This isn't that hard of a strike, use Void Sniper Rifles to pick off enemies from a distance and make sure you put on Dark Drinker for the Psion Flayers so you can decimate them in seconds. Voidwalkers should have plenty of fun, Nothing Manacles (or Ophidian Aspects, really... try it!) and Scatter Grenades will shred.

SIVA Crisis Heroic

Modifiers

  • Heroic
  • Solar Burn
  • Berserk
  • Brawler

Golden Gun with Celestial Nighthawk, Hammers of Sol, and Gjallarhorn will see you through the strikes this week. Alternate strategy for bosses, try Raze Lighter for bosses you can burn (Omnigul/Psion Flayers) and Sleeper Simulant for other bosses as they'll do more damage than Gjallarhorn.

Shaxx Bounty - Taking Control

Objectives:

  • Complete 7 Matches
  • 30 Advantage Kills
  • 15 Captures
  • B-Line

The hardest objective is going to be B-Line. This requires you to capture the B Zone first, you must be a participant in the capture to get the medal and complete the objective so you can't just go slaughter the enemy and keep them off it while your buddies capture. This means everyone will be doing it, my suggestion is to just go quickly to B and hold your grenades until the enemy starts to capture or push to the point and starting capturing while throwing grenades at choke points to keep the enemy back long enough to capture. Remember, it takes 3 players to have the fastest capture speed so get at least that many on the point.

Advantage Kills aren't incredibly obvious in what that requires of you. Your team must have more capture points than the other team when you get a kill, most commonly in the form of 2-1 but it can occur on 1-0. Finally, 15 Captures should be easy across 7 matches considering you get homebase first on every match for free.

Weekly Elite Bounties

With The Dawning comes some new bounties for strikes to accompany their recent changes. These bounties may be picked up from Zavala.

  • Strike Elite: Earn 9 Medals in Strikes (Bronze/Silver/Gold Tier)
    • Rewards: 10000 EXP, Vanguard Rep +200, Legendary Armor, Legendary Marks +10
  • Sunrise: Earn a Gold Tier Achieve Medal in the Nightfall before time expires.
    • Rewards: 10000 EXP, Vanguard Rep +200, Legendary Weapon, Legendary Marks +10
  • Make a Rainbow: Rapidly earn "Primary", "Special", and "Heavy Streak" Medals to earn "Rainbow" Medals
    • Rewards: 10000 EXP, Vanguard Rep +200, Legendary Armor, Legendary Marks +10

Make a Rainbow is easier than it sounds. As long as you don't have a team wipe you can get a Primary, Special, and Heavy Streak medal in any order to trigger the Rainbow Medal. Once the medal is collected just start over to get another.

Vendor Items

This section is only going to include gear that is capable of Tier 12.

Step-by-Step Breakdown of a Blink/Fusion Attack

Posted: 07 Feb 2017 06:02 AM PST

(x-post to CPB and CVA)

Some people have mentioned that they'd be interested in hearing about blink/fusion, so I thought it might be helpful to take a close look at a typical "Blink C" attack. I should note that a lot of this will be familiar territory for Y1 vets that remember blink/shotgun (fondly, I'm sure).

The Loadout

  • Bladedancer or Voidwalker with the Blink jump selected.

  • Quickdraw subclass perk (BD) or Ophidian Aspects (VW). Despite Plan C sporting 100 equip speed, having Quickdraw still makes a difference (notably on stowing your primary), and you need every frame you can get when you're fighting Blink's weapon ready delay.

  • Memory of Gheleon Artifact. This is a no-brainer for any fusion rifler because more detail on your opponent's position is invaluable when you don't have line-of-sight and are planning your attack (or defense).

  • Plan C.

Spec Recommendations

  • Part of what makes Plan C so fantastic is that there is no "wrong" spec for it, and it allows each player to explore what they like about the gun and find their own playstyle.

  • Having gotten the diplomatic answer out of the way, I will say that I believe there is a "right" spec for it – Field Choke and Hammer Forged. I've logged a lot of time with every configuration, and I think max range lets you unlock the most potential. That being said, I think Field Choke/Perfect Balance and Smart Drift/Hammer Forged are both viable. I also believe that Accelerated Coils is a waste on this gun – range and stability are too useful to give up. And honestly, the majority of your kills should come from the exotic perk if you want to get the most out of the gun, which makes accelerated coils a waste.

  • I also suggest spec'ing at least a little agility (if you can spare it; this is easier for BD) to get more height on your jumps and thus more time to equip and fire Plan C post-blink.

The Setup

The best place to start a Blink C attack is from approximately 30 meters away from your opponent (or a little more). This is because the average blink covers about 20 meters, which will have you touching down about 10 meters away from your opponent – just outside of Matador range. Here I see the opponent on radar and know he is eyeing the incoming heavy while likely watching the stairs and far side party room that connects to B flag.

You will want to be outdoors, or at least have a very high ceiling. And ideally, you will have an obstacle impeding line of sight so that your opponent can only start to acquire you as a target when you are coming out of blink – at which point you are well above head level, moving quickly and difficult to track. And chances are the last time he saw you (if he saw you), you were 30+ meters away, so he probably still has his primary equipped (and that won't be nearly enough to save him).

The Attack

You'll want to have your primary equipped and be very confident that Plan C's exotic perk is spooled up and ready to go, which requires that it be stowed for at least 10 seconds. (Until you've logged a lot of time with Plan C and the counter is hardwired in your lizard brain, there's no shame in counting out loud every time you stow it so that you know it's ready.)

First sprint toward your target, then hop and immediately blink for a high, arcing trajectory (over the obstacle if there is one). During the "blink" part of the jump, hit the button to swap from your primary to Plan C. Then as you come out of the blink, immediately reacquire your target and reposition if necessary so that you are falling towards him.

In the next few frames Plan C will become available to draw, at which point you should immediately start charging Plan C. At the same time you will want to start aiming down sights and looking for your opponent's lower body (though you'll note that I've started hipfiring Plan C's quickcharge even as I'm trying to aim down sights).

Your first bolts will fire just as you are touching down, which is going to kick your sights up hard – this is why we started by aiming at the lower body. You'll want to compensate by pushing down hard to try to keep the final bolts on the target's upper body.

Finally, you'll want to immediately swap to primary even as the final bolts are in the air, because this is a risky maneuver and there's a good chance you'll only land 4 bolts or less. Fortunately, your opponent will likely be trying to catch up and figure out what the hell you're doing (the guy in my video never gets a shot off). If he's even (re)acquired you, he's either pinging you ineffectively with his primary or trying to shotgun you when you are out of range. Regardless, a shot or two from your primary should finish things nicely.

Now that we've broken it down, here's the complete play again at normal and half speed.

Blink/fusion is even more effective as a defensive technique, but the mechanics are simpler – blink away, whip out Plan C, let the shotgunner run/slide into the bolts. You can also use it to turn the tables when someone is trying to use geography to their advantage.

Hope this wasn't too granular or boring for folks. Happy to answer any questions!

Beware Guardians: Despite what it says, this week's Memory of Gheleon is an Int/Str roll, not an Int/Disc one

Posted: 07 Feb 2017 02:20 AM PST

This week's Memory of Gheleon has its upgrade icons all messed up.

In the end, we get either 63Int/43Str or 103Int. No Discipline to be seen.

I knew it was a possible bug on some Artifacts but I didn't know it was possible on Memory of Gheleon.

Needless to say, I was a bit pissed off when I discovered that.

Mid-air projectile collisions

Posted: 07 Feb 2017 08:49 AM PST

After all the time I've spent playing this game, one thing that still tickles my fancy is mid-air projectile collisions.

Mid-air grenade collisions occur from time to time, but rarely (as a full-time hunter) do I get the grenade-knife collision. I got saved in this clip by my throwing knife blocking a titan's lightning grenade (with bonus semi-long range Saladbar voop).

Someone should make a "will it collide" video similar to (I think Datto's, I could be wrong) will it reflect video using Memory of Radegast's.

Zavala Bounty - Make a Rainbow. Quick tip for completion

Posted: 07 Feb 2017 04:02 AM PST

Good Morning Guardians,

One of the more 'Fun' Bounties to lay into this week in 'Make A Rainbow' IMO. Gives you chance to use a variety of Weapons and some great modifiers this week to help ease the chase for the Bounty Completion

Primary Weapons take a back seat this week and are whatever you think is best, no modifiers here this week so it's all on that Void / Solar pieces for Nightfall and Heroics

Somewhere over the Rainbow

Make a Rainbow - Rapidly earn "Primary", "Special", and "Heavy Streak" Medals to earn "Rainbow" Medals.

  • Rainbow requires 'Rapidly kill 3 or more enemies with a Primary/Special/Heavy' - PLEASE NOTE - This isn't a 'Speed run', once you have your Primary Medal, you can then take time to pick up your next Special / Heavy Medal to go towards the Rainbow and so on until the Medal Pops

  • The Medals can also be done in ANY order (Heavy, Primary Special - Special, Heavy, Primary etc)

  • Void Burn 2.0x on all weapons sporting the Void element

Method

  • Spawn into Nightfall Solo (Or with Friends for added Support - They can hold back while you get your kills)

  • Start of the Strike, there are enemies here that Spawn outside and inside the entrance to the complex. I recommend getting your Primary kills HERE

  • Continue on Downstairs, you will come to a RIGHT TURN leading into the room with a door that requires Ghost to open.

  • Use your Specials / Heavy here to quickly pick up your Special and Heavy Streak Medals. Mobs will Spawn back Left, back Right, Centre of the room and some can also come from the Doorways underneath

  • Use the Doorway you ENTERED the room from as your cover. Popping in and out as and when to pick up your Kills. Don't be afraid of using Special / Heavy Synths either should you need to

  • Then this Strike is actually up to you, Solo or not. With Caution, this bounty is on the easier side to pick up or Wipe on the last few Adds to repeat the process.

PRIMARY (Same recommendations for Heroic this week due to modifiers)

  • Zhalo Supercell – Chain Lightning

  • Universal Remote – One Shotter for the low level enemies (Recommend you switch out in the boss section if still going for Primary Rainbows)

  • Smite of Merain w/ Firefly - If it's Taken, it tears through

  • Steel Medulla – Makes fast work of lower level enemies

  • Genesis Chain

  • Outbreak Prime – DPS Machine

  • No Time to Explain - Reload Perks

  • Bad Juju – Super Builder / Reload Perks

  • ANYTHING with Firefly – Bunched up Mobs, share the love (and the damage)

SECONDARY

  • Telesto especially here for me - Fusion Rifles can hit multiple enemies in 1 shot, FRs can make quick work of large groups, recommend a faster firing FR aslong as it's VOID

  • Ice Breaker - Regenarates Ammo

  • Invective - Regenerates Ammo

  • Devils Dawn – Hard Hitter, Void (If you have one) & Firefly

  • Ex Machina (Void) – Hard Hitter

  • Black Spindle – Hard Hitter

HEAVY

  • Exotic Swords – All great for taking out herds of enemies and for making quick work for the 'Heavy Spree', Raze Lighter / Dark Drinker recommended for your Heavy Shielded enemies / Nightfall for Void booster

  • Truth

  • IF Materia (If Void) – Underrated, will destroy big groups of low levels and burn through Majors (Sometimes even Ultras) if you make use of its perk set

Nightfall Isn't for me

No problem at all, Solar burn week is a great week. Probably why we haven't seen it for so long

Obviously the main problem here is for Solo players when John Rando 'Steals' kills, easier done in a team because your 2 buddies can let you unload on enemies until you're done - So in that sense, the Nightfall version may be better for Solo but again, completley up to you how you approach it

Sleep now in the Fire

Secondary Recommendation for Heroics - ANY can work here when sporting Solar Burn. Fusion Rifle or Shotgun would be my choice. Sidearms can even do a job here. Icebreaker is a worthy mention because of the Ammo Regen and ability to stay at a distance to pick enemies off. Same goes for Invective.

Heavy Recommendation for Heroics - Gjallarhorn / Dragons Breath (Lasting Fire Damage) - LMG with a big magazine (Notable - IF Materia / Quillums Terminus / Silvered Dread) - Exotic Sword (Raze Lighter) to cut through the hoardes

Notable

  • Vex Mythoclast. ..Sometimes it's just fun to use things from days of old because of nostalgia and..

SGA

Dragons Breaths 'Fire' ability counts towards the Heavy section of the bounty and lasting fire is boosted by the Solar Burn Modifier

Few bright spots from an otherwise dismal Trials card last night

Posted: 07 Feb 2017 06:28 AM PST

So a couple of my clanmates and I usually play one card on Monday nights before trials is over. We aren't the types that will ever go flawless, we just like to give trials a go at least once a week. Last night we were getting sweaty matches the whole night and somehow I cam up with these bright spot plays.

Tried playing Peek-A-Boo with this guy and his buddies wanted to ruin our fun... so I told them to leave me alone. http://imgur.com/DKR9UKo.gifv

This team was absolutely murdering us. Down 4-0 about to lose 5-0 so I called upon all might SaladBar to stop the shutout. http://imgur.com/lLRZFK4.gifv
