I find myself looking at the items cooldown most of the time Redemption is used because I can't tell which team used it. here's the Korean mythology of Ahri Posted: 29 Jan 2017 02:49 AM PST So we all know how Sun Wukong is based on ancient Chinese mythology (explains why Dota II and Smite also have that character, etc etc) Well, I was reading a book ["Folk Takes From Korea - Revised Edition" by In-Seop Jeong] and it turns out that there's an ancient Korean tale that explains Ahri's character and several of her abilities. Below is the tale, some of it quoted from 1 page in the book. If you don't want to read all of it, scroll down for TLDR: It's called "The Jewel of the Fox's Tongue" LONG ago, 100 kids ere sleeping in a school after they stayed late to study. One of them, a little boy, couldn't sleep, and suddenly outside in the hallway (where Koreans leave their shoes) he heard someone outside counting the shoes. The person counts 100 pairs--the boy realizes this is creepy and hides. "A beautiful girl" enters the room and begins to stealthily kiss the children on the mouth; the hiding boy notices that they are dying as they are kissed so he stays hidden, terrified. The girl counts as she is kissing/killing the children and realizes she's only killed 99; she searches the school for another victim but the boy is well hidden and isn't caught. She leaves when "a cock crows" (at sunrise) and the boy decides to follow. "She hastened to the graveyard on the mountain near the village, and disappeared behind a large rock." She seems to realize someone is following her and pops out and tries to be kind/seductive to the boy ("patted him on the shoulder in a very friendly fashion"). "Her clothes were not very neat or clean, but she was rather pretty." She forces him to kiss her and "the boy knew that she could not be a real woman; she was probably a goblin or a fox." He knew that she killed his friends by kissing and he struggled to escape as she began to pass a jewel from her mouth into his, back and forth, slowly draining his life force. "She was absorbing human energy from him." "Suddenly the boy remembered an old proverb;? 'if a man swallows the jewel which a fox always carries on her tongue, then looks up at the sky before it dissolves, he will possess all the wisdom of heaven; if he looks down at the ground before it dissolves he will possess all the wisdom of the earth." So when the foxy lady passes the jewel to his mouth again he quickly swallows it--the lady forces him to look down instead of up, so he does not see the sky. He shouts at the top of his lungs but no one came; the girl disappeared (it says it was near dawn). He falls unconscious and then wakes up and runs home to tell the village. The villagers are PISSED that their kids are dead but the boy manages to convince them that he can deliver the killer (now that he has "all the wisdom of the earth" from the jewel). He leads an angry mob to the cemetery when suddenly "a fox with nine tails, and dressed in woman's clothes, ran out of the cave beneath the rock. They killed it on the spot." In the cave they find womens dresses and tunnels leading to the graves, where the fox had been able to eat bodies and take their clothes to "disguise itself as a pretty girl." Just as many stories in mythology were used to explain natural phenomenon, this story ends with "From that day forward, men have possessed the wisdom of the earth, but not the wisdom of heaven." TLDR: Ahri is from a tale in Korean mythology where a (special) fox lives in a cave, tunneling into graves to eat dead bodies and steal dresses to disguise herself as a beautiful girl. Once disguised, she seems to seduce men/boys and kill them by kissing them, where she passes a magic jewel into their mouth and back into hers, draining their human essence. Ahri Q = the passing jewel.... Ahri E = charm..... I just wanted to bring to attention the fact that it is almost impossible for me and a couple other color blind people that I know to tell if a Redemption is being cast by an ally or by an enemy. Since it is picked up by both teams in almost every single game, it can lose you a fight if you stick around in a Redemption thinking it will heal you and then it does damage. Even with color blind mode on it is still near impossible to tell.
