Learning Skyrim the Hard Way, Part 1: The Ice Troll

Long ago, when I was still young, I played through Skyrim on the Xbox 360. I thought I was pretty well versed in the game. I was wrong. Now, as I play trough Skyrim: SE on my XBone, I have started discovering little things that can happen in game which have generally made my life more difficult. Instead of going back to a previous save and making sure they didn't happen again, I've just been going along with it. Now I've started chronicling my adventures, and this is the first chapter.

Scene: I am a young, learning sorcerer who hopes to be a skilled conjurer one day. Unfortunately, I am still unable to afford any conjuration spellbooks, so I have to make due with destruction magic until I can. I have just slain a dragon outside of Whiterun, and been granted my housecarl, Lydia. The Greybeards have summoned me, and I am on my way up the 7,000 Steps to answer. Around halfway up, I meet the fabled ice troll.

Wasting no time, I jump into action, unleashing a stream of Flames upon the beast. Lydia, being the dumb bitch brave melee warrior she is, ran right into the path of my flames in order to attack her enemy. She might not have noticed my flames searing her flesh, but she certainly noticed it when the troll smacked her full force into the side of the mountain. My follower went down, and I was left to deal with the monster by myself.

After handily dispatching the troll I went to check on Lydia, still laying on the ground where she had fallen. I waited for several moments for her to stand back up, as I had seen her do countless times before. When she didn't do that, I stepped a little closer, and realized I could search her body, as I would a regular corpse.

I had never had a follower die before. I didn't know it was possible. As I continued on my quest, there was still part of me that held out hope, thinking maybe she would respawn later, and I could have her follow me once again. Not for a second did I think I would have to wander this world alone, until one fateful day, in Whiterun, I was approached by a courier. As he gave me some gold and a note, he offered his condolences. I was confused; what in the world could he be talking about? Then I read the note, detailing how my faithful housecarl, Lydia, had passed on to the next life, and had left me an inheritance. It was such a touching gesture...

I used that money to buy conjuration books, and found a new follower somewhere else who largely stays out of my way. Life is better now.

I was attacked by hired thugs earlier in riverwood, and when i checked who the contract was from it was from Dorthe, yeah the little girl who says "papa says im too friendly to strangers but you seem alright" she fucking signed a contract to kill me. So i killed her family
