Only one week left to bring Ranai to Frostbite...

...and we're not even close yet. Compendium will close next week, and there are still 4 levels to go.

Kirihara (Rosalina), Tsu- (Lucario), Some (Greninja) and Ranai (Villager) are nowhere near close to being unlocked.

At the time of writing this message, only $50 out of the $4000 needed have been raised.

These four are among the very best players in Japan, all of them being some of the best representatives of their respective characters. If you want to see them in the US (and trust me you do), we need to do something quickly.

The case for Zain (Genesis 4 compendium)

Listen up, compendium player levels end tomorrow. Sp1nda, Syrox, R2DLiu, KJH, Raalts, and Zgetto all made it in, but Zain is still $350 short of his goal. I believe Zain is one of the most deserving players to get his flight to G4 funded, as he has made crazy strides since picking up competitive Melee and has the results to back it up.

Reasons I think Zain will do amazing things at Genesis 4:

  • His The Big House 6 run: he beat Tafo, KJH, and Plup before losing to The Moon and Pewpewu in Marth dittos to get 17th.
  • Despite playing for the shortest time out of anyone in the MDVA PR (Zain started playing Melee in May of 2014), he's beaten every player ranked in the region (except for Chudat who rarely enters locals, as Zain has only faced him once.) This includes MIOM top 100 players such as Chillin, Redd, Milkman, SmashG0D, and lloD.
  • After playing for only a year, Zain took out Cyrain at his first ever national (SSC 2015). Yes, the same player who was just ranked 101 on MIOM 2016 he beat after a year of practice.
  • Zain has gone from unranked in MDVA, to rank 12, to rank 6, and now most certainly rated top 100 in the world in a year. He also stomped through the MDVA Arcadian right before getting ranked.
  • Zain is CRAZY. He's been implementing pivots and edge cancels to his game unlike anyone else. For this reason he is one of the most entertaining players to face or watch.

Do you actually know your mains?

And not in the sense of how they play. I meaning if you were put on the spot about your main's backstory and who they are in their games, could you answer most of the questions correctly?

It's a bit of an odd one of me. On one hand, Bowser was essentially the character who got me interested in Mario, or moreso Mario Kart. Previously I'd played only Sonic games on the PS2, and as a result, didn't have an interest in Mario, until I got a Bowser kart in Nintendogs, and after that I got interested in Mario Kart, then the main Mario games.

As a result, I know a lot of strange and useless trivia about Bowser, such as him being one of the seven star children, the fact that his full name in Japanese translates as 'Great Demon King Koopa', or even the fact he has a weird habit of flailing his arms in Super Paper Mario.

On the other hand, I know next to nothing about Roy. My history maining Roy is much more simple. I saw memes about him online, I bought the DLC, played as him, liked his playstyle and picked him up as a sort of 'second main'.

In terms of what I know about our boy, it's very limited. I know his father is called Eliwood, and that he's from a Japan only GBA Fire Emblem game. That's about it.

The Smashboards bi-weekly AMA's are back! For this video we have Florida's own Dath, one of the most prominent Smash Wii U Robin specialists in the world!

Shine 2016 was an event to remember, but there was a name that stood out among the usual suspects in bracket. He was an unlikely challenger who few expected to see break into top 8. This man would come into the tournament as an underdog, but come out as a hero to all mid-tier players. Dath would ultimately place 3rd at Shine, dominating the bracket and taking wins over Tyler "Marss" Martins, Larry "Larry Lurr" Holland and Wesley "6WX" Alexander.

After viewing this image, I was inspired to make a tier list based on the overall friendliness of the characters, with Kirby being the highest possible level of friendliness as default.

Here are the rankings. Mostly ordered. There is some slight overlap for specific characters due to personality traits but overall they fit into their tier.
