Dota 2 Beginner's Guide - Lich Hard Support/Nuke

Lich is a ranged intelligence Hero that uses his abilities to slow his enemies down with his ice-based attacks, as well as giving a boost to ally defenses, and serves as a great teamfight ganker with his powerful ultimate. He can use Sacrificeto easily level up and keep his mana high, making him very good at harassing in the early stages of the game. While a relatively frail hero and mostly known as a support, he can prove to be a force to be reckoned and mighty foe to stand with as he can render the attempts of multiple enemies futile with his ultimate, Chain Frost. Lich is a powerful crowd controller and can easily turn a teamfight, or dominate in a lane.

Tango Tango: For healing purposes

Animal Courier Animal Courier: You are support, so get that courier!

Observer WardObserver Ward: Provide this at the spots by the runes (at the riverside, the spots are marked on the ground with an eye) and especially in hard lane in the woods to prevent ganks.

Ring of ProtectionRing of Protection: Good for boosting your armour early. Also, you can finish your boots completely in-lane by buying from the side-shop.

Boots of Speed Boots of Speed : Improves your movement speed. Later built into Tranquil Boots.

Flying CourierFlying Courier: You are support, so get that flying

Tranquil BootsTranquil Boots: Since you can have mana for free with you skill, you just need health regeneration. These boots provide that.

MekansmMekansm: Heals 250 hp instantly. Also be careful with two Mekansm in one team, since those can only be used per 25 seconds otherwise their effects do not apply, therefore do not heal.

Force Staff Force Staff : With it, you can a) shove yourself by double activating it into the direction you are looking or b) shove another player into the direction he is looking by using it on that player. Good for escaping and chasing!

Aghanim's Scepter Aghanim's Scepter : Just makes your ultimate even stronger. SUPPORT WAY: Rush this if your team has need of a strong nuking ultimate. NUKER WAY: Be sure to build this since it makes you even stronger.

Town Portal Scroll Town Portal Scroll: Always have one of these in your inventory to be quick around the map.

Veil of DiscordVeil of Discord: Magic weakness combined with your ultiamte? Yay! Also those boni are nice on you.

Scythe of Vyse Scythe of Vyse: Expensive, but effective. Massive Intelligence boost and mana regeneration make this nice on you. That Int boosts helps greatly to your damage. And its active component is best used on the enemy's carry hero. Just watch and sit back as he/she turns into a pig and is rendered useless.

Shiva's GuardShiva's Guard: Luxury. Armor! We want that. Its active  component combined with Veil and your ultimate is hellish. Slow with this, then blast out Veil for more magic damage and use your ultimate for heavy devastation.

Refresher Orb Refresher Orb: Luxury. Oh! The enemy team just survived your ultimate? How about using it AGAIN INSTANTLY? With this, a can-do. Just activate it

Orchid Malevolence Orchid Malevolence: Situational. More attack speed and Intelligence boost make your right-click attack quite strong. Also its active component, which silences one enemy hero can become quite in handy when playing vs. spellslingers like Zeus or Lina.

Black King BarBlack King Bar: Situational.  Build if there is too much stun around that brings you down or makes you unable to cast your ultimate. With this you are sure to escape and deal good damage.

Arcane Boots Arcane Boots : Situational. You won't need these for you, but you might have a carry in your team that needs mana badly. So you should be able to provide it with these.

Drum of Endurance Drum of Endurance : Build it only if you and your team are struggling to get what they need. (kills ;-)) Nice for attribute boost and more movement speed. Be sure to use its active component whilst chasing escaping enemies or in helping your team/carry at escaping.

Pipe of InsightPipe of Insight: Situational. Build this if magical damage brings your team down and you want to help. Activate and render you team immune to 400 spell damage. Also be sure to have only one of these on the team. Kick out Urn for this if you item slots are full.

Sentry WardSentry Ward: Especially important vs. invis heroes like Riki orBounty Hunter. Place these in-lane or even at the runes or in the woods to provide monitoring of their movements. Also get them to counter-ward the enemy team. Place wards in the woods to detect enemy wards and smash 'em to make the enemy blind.

Dust of AppearanceDust of Appearance: Also a weapon against invisibility heroes. When you know the guy is around, activate it and make him visible for a period of time.

Gem of True Sight Gem of True Sight : Also against invisibility heroes (permanently if in a hero's inventory), but you should only provide it, if you have a carry that does not die since it drops unto death and the enemy team can have it

Ability Notes

Spam Frost Blast and use it to harrass heavily in-lane. Later on it is a decent nuke and good slow value. Simply activate and click on the hero you want to hit.
Ice Armor gives your allies and buildings extra armour and slows enemies that attack these allies. Use it (not only) in early game to protect your tower if you are having problems defending it, also support your carry with it if you got mana. Skip at lvl 3 and go for nova if you feel the need for more dmg.

Sacrifice Good for pulling back in the lane since you kill friendly creeps with that and to raise your mana. Be sure to take the creeps with the most hp (melee-creeps) for more mana. But be careful! This gives the enemy team extra xp, so be sure to deny the creeps when they are far away from enemies!

Use Chain Frost best in team fights, when your enemies are standing close. Also be sure not to have too many creeps around, since this not only bounces between heroes but also between creeps. Just let it out and do massive damage!
