Bungie, just to be clear..Forsaken is what we expected vanilla D2 to be. Please pass the word along to the team working on D3 that Forsaken set the bar for our expectations

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 05:57 AM PDT

To correct the gentle reddit user from earlier. Bungie, just to be clear... We don't need a D3, just build off D2 and do it the way you've done with Forsaken. If other MMORPG games can continue to build off with expansions AND cross platform (FFXIV: Realm Reborn) you can do it too.

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 08:25 AM PDT

Bungie, can you give us the ability to mark waypoints anywhere within a region?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 05:54 AM PDT

Also, make them viewable by the other members of your fireteam.

This would be so helpful in navigating maps.

[Spoiler] Zavala is a coward.

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 02:13 AM PDT

I think I just figured out why I don't care for Zavala anymore, when he used to be one of my favorite characters.

Zavala, above all else, is a man of focus. The only thing in his eyes is protecting the City and the Traveler, in that order. That devotion to being humanity's shield was admirable to me. It spoke of singular purpose, of commitment to duty.

The Red War took that strength of will, that belief, and it has fossilized it. Zavala no longer defends the City, he no longer protects the people in his charge. He guards the ideas of them, and anything that threatens that idea is something to be ignored, forgotten, or cast out.

It's all based on the moment he said to ignore defending the Traveler as Ghaul besieged the City. That the people come first. This idea is laudable, and difficult to argue against, but I have to ask: What did that devotion to principle cost us? It cost us our access to the Light. It cost us hundreds of Guardians, a caste that is every day becoming fewer. It cost us the City. It cost us an unknowable number of civilian lives. We lost far more by failing to protect our source of strength than we ever could have by standing by it.

And did he learn from this? Has he, as the leader of the Vanguard, of the City, learned that sometimes to defeat a terrible threat may cost a terrible price?

No. Worse, he has pretended to take this lesson to heart and has the audacity to lecture us on the price of Guardianship.

He demands us to ignore a man who has broken the back of the levy of our borders. Who killed one of our leaders in cold blood. To hide in the city as he ran rampant in the Shore. Even after we return, victorious, he chastises us with a vague "there are always consequences". For those who have completed the campaign, ask yourselves: What would have happened if we had listened to him? What damnation would we have unleashed on our already endangered people?

Look again to the strike of Savathun's Song. We see Hive, who were weakened and broken after the fall of their King, organizing a ritual the size of which we hadn't seen since the Taken War. After losing contact with a Fireteam of 9, and sending a paltry 3 to save them, what does he say? If it becomes too dangerous, run away. What would have happened if we had? Another Hive Royal would have her first step into our realm, on our very doorstep.

Again, during the Red War, instead of pursuing means of regaining power to challenge Ghaul, what does he do? Plan a suicide mission to destroy a single one of the Red Legion's weapons.

Instead of harnessing, or even just working with Rasputin, he rebuffs any attempts by Ana to persuade him. Why? Because Rasputin could not be controlled by "humanity", namely him. His hubris nearly got us, the most powerful Guardian and defender of the City, killed. Only after this does he condone working with Rasputin. Even after we defeat a God of the Hive, he whines about how Rasputin can operate without his influence. Instead of being thankful, or even halfway appreciative, of a new force that doesn't have humanity's extinction in mind, he complains he does not control it.

Zavala is a man who has been paralyzed by his fear. The fear of losing the idea of his City. Fear of having to compromise his idea of what being a Guardian is. Anything, anything at all, that threatens that idea, of a City under Guardian stewardship, is a threat to be ignored or ostracized. Never to be confronted though, as that would mean taking action.

Ikora was right. Zavala is a coward, and until he realizes this, his cowardice will eventually doom our people long before anyone else has the chance.

Players still want a "delete whole stack" option for shaders, Bungie

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 04:46 AM PDT

Simply put, if I want to delete shaders to get glimmer, shards, or dust, I'll delete them one by one or recycle them through Rahool, that's fine. The recycling option is nice.

But if I want to delete my hundreds or even thousands of unwanted Atlantis Wash and Avalon Teal in a single action without worrying about the thousands of glimmer I'll be missing out on? Let me. I'll repeat that Bungie, let me.

If the issue is that you can't mass delete a stack because the game can't process all of the stuff it's supposed to give you in return for that stack, then let me delete that stack with the knowledge that I won't be getting anything in return.

Yes, there will be growing pains and yes there will be complaints from people who mess up and delete a stack of eververse shaders without realizing what they're doing, but they'll get over it. Short of overhauling the shader system into a far better one (infinite use shaders, please), this is a change that the game still needs.

Edit: Because it's been mentioned plenty of times, it would be best if Bungie just made Shaders into unlockable items like emblems, emotes, sparrows, ships, etc. Make them infinite use, put user experience first. Until that happens, having a "delete whole stack" option would be well appreciated.

Forsaken is amazing. Wish I took the week off work to play it!

If you see a Sentinel Titan throw up a banner shield, please shoot through it...

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 09:23 AM PDT

No.. Random person I'm not trying to troll you by blocking your shot to the boss. No, you don't have to jump over the shield to hit enemies. It's not a bubble, you don't dip in and out. Just sit back, take it easy, and shoot through the shield while doing more damage. Please help me feel like I didn't choose a worthless class. I know it would be more beneficial if I just had a damage super for this public event, but let me feel important damnit.

Thanks, - Code of the Commander Titans everywhere

The Ace of Spades-What an Exotic should be!

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 06:39 AM PDT

The Ace of Spades! The same time to kill as all 140 rpm hand cannons but it just feels exotic. It has magic bullets, it has smoke, it spins, it has perk name that means "remember, you too will die", the explosions, oh my god, the explosions. Thank you Bungie. As a hand cannon lover, this gun has made me forgive you for all the pain you made me endure during year one (console player). What a weapon!

PS-If you ever nerf it I will fly to America from Portugal and go medieval on your arses !!!

'Warden of Nothing' is one of the best strikes in Destiny history. Keep it coming Bungie!

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 10:12 AM PDT

Personally, it's my favorite strike of all time. Non-negotiable.

I'm still amazed with the sheer size of it along with the Variks homage. Well done.

Collections is great, but perhaps we can preview a full armor set?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 06:56 AM PDT

I think the collections tab is an awesome implementation, but i would reallly love to see what my guardian looks like in the full set before reacquiring any older gear. It seems it would be simple enough to hit the Y button (xbox) to preview the full set if you are hovering over the name of the set. Perhaps even a shaders window within to see what the full set fully shaded with one type of shader would look like.

There is no point in playing if i dont look good, dammit! Let me window shop!

Nolan North Did a Great Job Voicing Cayde

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 02:51 AM PDT

I'd forgotten reading about how Nolan North took over Cayde 6' voice acting for this expansion a few months back. I played through the campaign this week and I'll be honest there were some lines I heard in the first mission where I was like 'That sounded different to how Cayde usually sounds' then I remembered what I'd read. For the most part it's indistinguishable though. It's really great work.

Hopefully if they bring Cayde back they bring back Fillion, and I hope it really was just a scheduling conflict and there's no bad blood because he's great in this role and I'm sure he brings a lot to the table via improv and such.

Either way great job Mr North.

I'm 100% on board with Exotic being ultra rare...so long as duplication is eliminated.

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 12:28 PM PDT

To have both rare drops AND get duplicates is a bit much. I'd rather get nothing at all and then have a reason to be excited when I DO get a drop, than to wait forever to get a drop, be excited when I get it and then be let down when it's 5th exotic guantlet of the same kind.

[Spoiler] The Prison of Elders Strike! Thank You Bungie!

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 09:35 AM PDT

Wow can I just say thank you for this Bungie! That was an absolute blast!

I ran it for the first time last night. The train dodging, going into the old Prison of Elders fallen arena! The servitor talking like Variks! The D1 nostalgia was amazing running this.

When I heard the servitor talk I said "wait is that Variks?" out loud, quickly followed by ghost saying EXACTLY the same thing. It made for a great laugh.

This was fun! And so happy it wasn't part of the main story! That said for the other strikes too, Thanks for keeping them separated!

Exotics are really rare

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 09:53 PM PDT

And it's amazing I still have yet to get an exotic and I'm stoked because I know when I finally get one I will be ecstatic

Since I posted this I've received 2 exotics from the gunsmith both year 1 guns but I honestly don't care. Exotics should be apart of that end game chase not something we earn all of within the first few weeks. I can look back and remember when I got my first gjallarhorn I can't say the same for a single destiny 2 exotic so far because they dropped like candy before. Maybe they could increase the drop rate a bit to tend to all those that are complaining but I'm fine with how it is now.

[Spoiler] Are you a PL500 Guardian, looking to complete the Prodigal, PS4 exclusive, or Tangled Web sets? Or need to run any Tangled Shore lost sector quickly? Might I recommend the Kingship Docks, at Thieves’ Landing in the Tangled Shore...more details below.

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 07:31 AM PDT

TLDR: Kingship Docks Lost Sector is the middle-most Lost sector in Thieves' Landing can be completed and redone very quickly, and seems to drop only legendary armor (WHEN LEGENDARIES DROP) from it's end chest...it's still a lot of blues.

If you are looking for a reliable, albeit very slow grind to completing three of the new legendary sets that released with Forsaken (Not counting the Dreaming City armor, of course); Kingship Docks is a very short, relatively easy way of continuously grinding for a legendary armor drop. The lost sector is located near the middle of the Thieves' Landing, accessed by an 'elevator' and across a very small bridge (relevant later). Personally, I would only attempt this if you are PL500, however, it may help you to get enough "blues" to reach 500 if you are teetering on the edge.

To begin, equip yourself with mostly close-range, high burst-damage weapons, like swords and automatic/high rate-of-fire shotguns (Lord of Wolves works well, if you have it). When you get into the lost sector, sprint up the right side, keeping close to the wall and jumping over rocks and obstacles as needed. Climb the "stairs" on the right side, and once you reach the edge of the small platform to your front, jump/glide/boost your way to the penultimate platform at the base of the chest area. At this point, you will notice many "corrupt ether" effects around you, as enemies are quickly spawning in. On the platform you have now jumped to, directly in front of you, the boss will spawn from an ether effect after a few seconds. I would recommend throwing down a damage-over-time, such as the pulse or vortex grenade, and following up quickly by attacking the boss as soon as it spawns (You will want to kill the boss very quickly, as the grab bag of Ravagers will maul your blueberry ass so uncaringly, they might as well be Peter Dinklage discussing the origin of Hive Wizards). Once the boss is destroyed, quickly turn and collect your loot from the sector chest, and leap off of the balcony directly behind the chest. After 5 seconds, you will likely spawn behind or directly in front of the entrance of the lost sector. Simply turn around, sprint into the small entrance tunnel, and back out to the small bridge we discussed earlier (you'll know you've made it far enough when the "Thieves' Landing" splash text shows on your screen. You may re-enter the now reset lost sector, and repeat the farm ad-nauseam. The entire run, once you get in a rhythm, takes between 53 and 56 seconds (and that's counting the 5 seconds of respawn lag time).

So how does this equate to farming for the armor sets? Well, in my estimated 150 runs, when a legendary did drop from the chest, it was only ever a piece of either the Prodigal set, the Tangled Web set, or the PS4 exclusive set...if you happen to have a PS4 and want to look like a guardian f*ked a refrigerator. Basically my point is, the only legendary weapons that ever dropped for me during these runs were from the occasional legendary Engram from the sector boss. That's not to say you won't get a legendary weapon drop from the chest...I just have yet to find one. Additionally, it's a great way to get an insane number of Etheric Spiral (Tangled Shore planetary material), as it drops 3-6 per chest open.

Lastly, and just for your information, I DID have a Fireteam Medallion active at the time...though I'd imagine this did not effect this run at all as far as loot drops go.

Happy Grinding!

Just to be clear Bungie, consumable shaders are a pain in the ass to manage (regardless of having a mass delete button or not). We would much rather prefer a system of infinite use shaders, that can be applied to individual pieces of gear; where each shader has its own slot.

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 10:08 AM PDT

Shaders are supposed to be a fun aspect of the game; not a time consuming mess to manage. We don't need a mass delete button. We NEED non-consumable shaders that have their own slot, which can be applied to individual pieces of gear.

We have this beautiful collections tab now. Let us earn non-consumable shaders through various activities (like you did in the Taken King).

Daily Challenges Reset Calendar and Info

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 03:39 AM PDT

Morning Guardians,

Daily Challenges which reward 'Powerful' Engrams have now arrived with Forsaken. There are 4 variations and a new one pops up after each daily reset. This is great for players of all backgrounds and levels in the game to come through and earn great gear while also levelling up. A progressive system helping to ensure there is always something to play for

If you don't see them as 'Powerful' just yet, you must hit Level 50 for these to update

Since there seems to be some confusion, thought i'd try and break it down and stick a calendar of events together as a visual of what's been and coming for September

As ever, if there's anything of note that needs adding, please let me know. I have written this based on info we currently have so I am aware that things may not be this straight forward. Let's work it out together

Another Day, Another Dollar Engram

To start, To find the challenges, they are lit up on your director as a little flashing gold icon next to the where the challenge has appeared. It will bring up a tooltip giving the details if it's Daily or Weekly

This is the extract from yesterdays TWAB explaining the new feature and gives an example

There are two types of challenges: daily and weekly. Now, these types behave a bit differently when it comes to resets.

Weekly challenges follow the weekly reset each Tuesday at 10 AM PDT.

Daily challenges, on the other hand, offer a unique challenge each day, and they reset every four days. Here are some examples:

  • The first daily strike challenge was offered on Tuesday, September 4. So, the next daily strike challenge will arrive with a reset on Saturday, September 8.

  • The first daily Gambit challenge was offered on Wednesday, September 5. So, the next daily Gambit challenge will arrive with a reset on Sunday, September 9.

  • However, players will retain daily challenges until they're completed.

  • If a player completes the daily strike challenge on Friday, September 7, the challenge will be offered once more on Saturday, September 8.

  • If a player does not complete the daily strike challenge by Saturday, September 8, they will not receive a duplicate challenge. Instead, the challenge will be reset and progress will be cleared.

So this explains that at daily reset (10am PDT / 5pm UTC each day) that a new Daily challenge which rewards 'Powerful' gear will appear. These are split across 4 activities:

  • Strikes
  • Gambit
  • Crucible
  • Heroic Adventures

When Forsaken launched (Sept 4th), we had Strikes, then Gambit (Sept 5th), then Crucible (Sept 6th) so at todays reset Sept 7th), we'll get the Heroic Adventure version of the Daily challenges. As per the TWAB this means that tomorrow, Strikes will be the daily reward again which means several things:

  • If you completed the Daily Challenge linked to Strikes, you will have had the reward and it will be off your director

  • If you DID NOT complete this Daily Challenge within the 4 days of it appearing by doing a Strike, it will NOT stack and the challenge will remain on your director under Strikes but you will only get 1 Powerful Engram for completing it if you then go back to it.

  • The Main takeaway is this. A Powerful daily challenge will appear today (Friday), you have 4 days (3 resets) to complete the Powerful reward. If you DO NOT do this, it will be replaced again by the same daily challenge. So you can complete the daily that appeared on Friday on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday up until Mondays dailies reset where it will be lost and a new one in it's place.

Save the Date

Below is a Calendar of everything coming in September Daily Challenge wise. DTG will of course post what corresponds where in future Daily reset threads but if you wanted to see what to expect and when certain things will bait and switch, the below calendar should help you out

I've seen a few people mentioned the Dailies will 'Stagger' or 'rotate' into what goes where. I have not seen any talk of either of those things officially so if this is the case, please link me up so I can cry into this calendar take it like a man and clarify the below

Please note, all these dates cover September18 from launch of Forsaken

Activity 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th 12th 13th 14th 15th 16th 17th
Strikes X - - - X - - - X - - - X -
Gambit - X - - - X - - - X - - - X
Crucible - - X - - - X - - - X - - -
Heroic - - - X - - - X - - - X - -
Activity 18th 19th 20th 21st 22nd 23rd 24th 25th 26th 27th 28th 29th 30th
Strikes - - X - - - X - - - X - -
Gambit - - - X - - - X - - - X -
Crucible X - - - X - - - X - - - X
Heroic - X - - - X - - - X - - -

8 Days a week

To clarify, here is what you can expect Day to Day, Week to Week in terms of powerful gear to chase

Weeklies

  • Spiders big bounty mission
  • Raid
  • Weekly Crucible
  • Weekly Gambit
  • Nightfall
  • Nightfall 100K+ Score
  • Clan XP
  • Petra Bounties
  • Flashpoints
  • Weekly Story
  • Weekly Strikes

Dailies

  • Strikes
  • Gambit
  • Crucible
  • Heroic
  • Prime Engrams - Note this is not a 'Challenge' as such but it appears you can grab one of these per day. It's a random drop and it's from the Cryptarch. More info required on these at this point

Edit - Apparently Prime Engrams are just random and not a daily thing. You get a BUFF item to get your first one a day easier

The Last Word

Although I understand the confusion with the info around this, I think the TWAB has outlined it really well

This system allows you to always have something to play for on route to max level but next to that, Powerful gear to unlock new weapons, Armour or even take advantage of Random Rolls and hunt down that God Roll or maybe even a few exotics

It's welcoming to Solo players as well as something to jump in to rinse with your friends.

Hopefully a timer of some sort can be implemented onto the Director to visibly show how long you have for that challenge each day which I think would help players in game manage their time

I'm having a blast in Forsaken so far, really cool stuff (Including my Drop Mag / Kill Clip Better Devils beast) and I hope you are too

See you in the Dreaming City, Guardians
