| Why people level cleave early on sven? Posted: 05 Aug 2018 05:05 PM PDT Why would i want to push the lane so early with sven? Can't i save the points for later like i would do with glaives on luna? [link] [comments] |
| Can anyone help me with my Storm Spirit? I can't figure him out. Posted: 05 Aug 2018 06:17 PM PDT https://www.dotabuff.com/players/83224997 All my recent games are on Storm, and I've been getting absolutely wrecked. I watched almost all of Blitzs tutorials and a few analysis videos of pro players playing Storm but I can't apply what I learned in game. Could anyone point out any obvious problem I'm having? Is Storm just the kind of hero where I have to get 100 games on him before everything clicks? I don't usually play mid either so I lose lane every time, but I think the only thing I can do to fix that is practice. Edit Opendota link would be better maybe: https://www.opendota.com/players/83224997 [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 05 Aug 2018 12:46 AM PDT This has been a huge deal for me, so I had to share with someone. I used to be terrified of just hitting the queue button to begin with, so to overcome that and finally reach Divine has been absolutely incredible. I mostly spam support, only really playing core when I needed to, and I had a brief stint in the offlane. I'm beyond ecstatic to have finally reached my goal! Here's my dotabuff if anyone happens to be interested, and I'll answer any questions if anyone has any in the morning, but for now i'm off to have a beer and go to bed. https://www.dotabuff.com/players/109487739 [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 05 Aug 2018 10:44 AM PDT Posted here three months ago bitching about my mmr and contemplating whether I should continue playing. Now I'm back having climbed from 3.3k to 4k. Thanks to this sub and everyone who spared sometime to shed light on my situation providing some much needed positivity, reality checks and support. And also those who continue to do so and keep this sub active and running helping eachother out. Since then I've greatly changed my approach to the game and the results have followed. a Thank you all. Obligatory dotabuff: https://www.dotabuff.com/players/321674522 [link] [comments] |
| Using Salves to tank/push towers Posted: 05 Aug 2018 03:06 PM PDT How viable/effective is this strat usually? Will it work in a normal game, or does it depend too much on dominating the laning stages so that you know the enemy probably won't/can't defend? [link] [comments] |
| Where does Phantom Assassin excel? Posted: 05 Aug 2018 04:17 PM PDT I'm trying to get into phantom assassin, but my favourite hero is Slark. It seems like many of the situations where I think PA would be a good pick, Slark is as good / a better pick. Squishy supports, and weak heroes that I can pick off before help arrives. Is it just that these heroes fill similar niches, or am I missing somewhere else where PA excels but Slark comes short? [link] [comments] |

| Ember, when to magic vs when to physical? Posted: 05 Aug 2018 06:47 PM PDT Ember is like one of those heroes who can go physical or magic damage like SF. When should one opt to go magical vs physical? I went the usually aquila bottle boots into bot build with my drow lineup to sync up our mid game timing. Normally I would go physical build and go vattlefury after my core items. This time because I'm going magical and taking the magical talents I went maelstrom, Shiva, linkens mjolnir according to the torte de lini build. It told me to go radiance and it's still 40 minutes. Is it acceptable to go radiance at 40? When should one get radiance on Ember? Would you go magical or physical vs the following matchsups: meepo broodmother storm ta [link] [comments] |
| Replay Analysis: In Need of Volunteers Posted: 05 Aug 2018 12:17 PM PDT Hey everyone! One of the things that constantly gets brought up when trying to learn the game; and I'm a huge proponent of doing this myself, is replay analytics. One of the best ways to improve upon your own personal play in the game is to watch your own replays. However, this isn't talked about in greater detail in many places, and exactly what people should be looking for. I want to take it upon myself to create a guide on HOW to watch your own replays, and I need people from across the entire MMR spectrum and across the world to help me get started! My plan is to take an example from across roughly every 500 MMR bracket, (0-500, 500-1000, etc.) and go through and give as many helpful tips as I can watching a replay and going through what they, as an individual, should be looking for. One of the reasons I don't want to pull from random matches across the globe is because I don't want people to feel as if I am targeting them, as there will be some criticisms of play, but I will absolutely do my best to be as constructive as possible. This isn't a witch-hunt to laugh at low MMR players, this will hopefully be a guide that can be used in the future to help newer players or players who want to improve their MMR. I appreciate any who take the time to respond with information. What I would need is:
Thanks again for any who respond and want to help contribute to getting this off the ground! [link] [comments] |

| Started Playing DotA, Seeking High Level Advice About Pushing Leads to End the Game Posted: 05 Aug 2018 09:23 AM PDT Hi all, I just started playing this game, I have roughly 50 games played right now. I know the question I am asking is a bit vague, so I am seeking advice about this match specifically where I was playing Lina mid (Match ID: 4043089302). I imagined that this game was very low-level, full of new players. I laned against a PA, and at 10 minutes, I had about a 3k net worth lead over him, with about a 4k lead over anyone on the enemy team at 20 minutes. I reviewed my own game, and here were some notes I took:
Early Game:
Mid Game:
Late Game:
Overall Notes:
Apologies for the wall of text, I really am trying to improve at DotA so I tried to review my replay seriously. Many of my mid-lane games go this way - where I get a lead (usually a very sizable lead), but can't really capitalize on it past a certain point.
Not sure if this is relevant, but if you have read this far, you might be wondering how a new player like myself was able to even get such a lead against other new players. A bit of background about myself, I played League of Legends for many years, and managed to hit diamond last year (top ~2.5% or so). Diamond just means I recognize that I am a bad player, but I do know how that game should be played at a general macro level. I know 100% that if I was given an equivalent lead in league, I would have been able to win that game all day every day. I just chose to play mid in DotA since I played mid/jungle in league, and there's not really a jungle role here so I played mid. I also know that if I don't know how to play the game as a core, I have even less of a clue on how to support (and this shows, whenever I play any other role other than mid, I have no game knowledge about how the game should be played, and my winrate reflects that). I also picked Lina because I sort of see her as the equivalent Annie from League (where she is easy to play so I can focus on high level concepts and not too much on mechanics).
Thanks for reading, on top of seeking high level advice, if anyone wants to play with me, that would be awesome, as I have no one else to play with right now, and it has been a real grind! TL;DR: Got a good lead mid lane, but had no idea how to push my lead resulting in a loss. [link] [comments] |

| How do you counter Centaurs crazy return late game? Posted: 05 Aug 2018 08:16 AM PDT Had a game where i was ahead by far as a carry ,team didnt group and push tho so late game Centaur was monster (despite him being like 10-8 k networth behind me most of the game ) and i was killing myself on him (return+blademail).Ofc ppl will say target him last and i was trying that but it was tough to do thanks to aoe effects such as Mjolnir and stuff and he had a talent for return aura as well .My team was even solo dying on him To counter blademail +passive i think i should have gotten Satanic earlier ?(Maybe also Abyssal blade, does it disable aura as well?) What else can be done i wonder? [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 05 Aug 2018 11:33 AM PDT This is potentially stupid, but i've googled and read the wiki and haven't gotten a clear answer. How do multiple items with procs work? I've been doing a build on bloodseeker where I get Sange and Yasha, Basher, and Maelstrom. How does the slow chance +bash chance+ lightning chance interact? Am I being inefficient by getting too many procs? [link] [comments] |
| How do I Git Gud? 2.8k Scrub/Support main/Captain wannabe Posted: 05 Aug 2018 07:43 AM PDT Here's my Dotabuff: https://www.dotabuff.com/players/205386724 After almost 3000 hours of gameplay I think I've only been adequately knowledgeable of Dota's mechanics. My solo MMR plays around at 2.8-2.9k. I'm only at Legend rank because I play suppory my higher tier friend but even then my party MMR is just at 3.4-3.5k. I think I'm adequately knowledgeable about creep aggro, drafting and counter picking, team fight shot calling, catapult wave capitalisation, reliable and unreliable gold, vision and map control, map movement analysis, ally and enemy TP cooldown time awareness, enemy ult cooldown time stamping, and gold lead capitalisation. But the thing is it takes a lot of conscious effort to pull off. There are times that I just zone out and forget about my positioning on the map and sometimes even on a team fight. I really see my self as more of a Captain-ish type of player rather than someone who is mechanically a god type and I'm interested on to learning more of the macro strategies in game but I think to be someone worthy of that level of respect I gotta learn more in the mechanical level. What else should I take in to consideration? When I play am I always out of position? In some times that my drafts and plans are not really followed by my team and we lack catch and team fighting capabilities, is there anything I can do? I'm really trying to be a non-toxic player and just try to convince my team that our enemies are just a better team than ours. But it just feels bad that it's the case especially if the game should be in our favor draftwise. Not to mention how hard trying not to tilt, and communicating with a tilted player is! I'm really open to learning more because most of my knowledge in game came from this sub! [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 05 Aug 2018 10:45 AM PDT I want to learn Enigma because let's be honest, he's cool as heck. Where do I begin? I know jungling isn't viable, so let's talk offlane. What should my starting items be? What about skill progression? Do I simply follow Torte-de-Lini's guide? I know I should get Midas before blink, but what about boots? Do I go something like.. Soul ring, brown boots, midas, blink, arcane boots? If no, why not? How do I win my offlane? How do I get midas if I can't really get any farm in my offlane? What if I have a partner who wants farm, what do I do? Lots of questions, I know. [link] [comments] |
| Im planning on calibrating in ranked after only playing casual for approx. 800 hrs Posted: 05 Aug 2018 06:54 AM PDT As the title states, I'm planning on playing the ten calibration matches in ranked and I'm looking for any advice anyone could give for these games. I wouldn't say I'm new to the game but I'm far from understanding the full extent of the game as it is massive. I'm just looking for basic advice, like should I speak support or carry? Should I play roamer? Any and all advice would be appreciated thank you! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 05 Aug 2018 06:23 AM PDT Almost seems too strong with her sleep meteor hammer setup. Only thing i think is possible is to just have bkb and kill main dps before bkb runs out? Specifically i was playing invoker, I just felt helpless. If i tried to start anything on someone i'd just get slept and die. If i didnt she would sleep my team and i'm equally as helpless if they bkb right when sleep ends, all i can contribute is some right click and my whole team was dead. [link] [comments] |
| what to do as axe when you're forced to solo offlane vs ursa/mk lane Posted: 05 Aug 2018 04:37 PM PDT so i played axe, my lc went jungle, we had a rubick bottom so they lost to their solo offlane, i couldnt go into the lane, i tried to jungle, mk just jumped around in the trees until he found me in the jungle so i went afk and fed mid for about 30 minutes, any solutions to my problem? thanks :) also yes i bought the optimal items for feeding (i got wind lace + boots so i had decent ms to get to the mid lane faster) [link] [comments] |
| What are the key points of playing clockwerk? Posted: 05 Aug 2018 07:25 AM PDT Under what circumstances should I pick him? How do I itemise as a clockwork? What are his power spikes? What heroes is he good against? What heroes does he synergise with? And all the tips and tricks you could tell me about him would help. I don't play the hero a lot but I think he is a good pos 4 hero considering he has a skill that pierces spell immunity, and he's a good initiator especially against glass canon back liners.
