Theorycraft Thursday - Discuss Builds, Skills, Strategies, and More!

Posted: 30 Aug 2018 02:00 AM PDT

Welcome to Theorycraft Thursday, a community-building, regularly occurring thread in the subreddit!

MMO veterans will know that Theorycrafting is the core of many discussions about this genre of games, and ESO is no different.

With the high level of variance in builds, skills, and stats, there's plenty of room for Theorycrafting, and we want to see what you have to share with the community on that front.

Have a build you've experimented with? A particular skill or set of skills that synergize well? A strategy for PvE or PvP that works to great effect? Share it here!

If you're new, you can also use this thread to ask questions about viable builds and skills as well!

As always, please keep in mind our rules on the sidebar, especially the one about no personal attacks, callouts, rude behavior, or other such disrespectful content.

Disagree respectfully and know that everyone has different ideas and playstyles that suit them.

Cyrodiil AP has been backdoor nerfed

Posted: 30 Aug 2018 12:53 AM PDT

Just want to bring this to everyones attention so hopefully the community can stand up against this change. There was a post on the official forums as well.

The latest patch made a pretty significant change to how defense ticks work in cyrodiil. Before the patch there were 5 levels for a keep, it took several hours to get a keep to level 5, and once at level 5 it stayed there until captured, and defense ticks were maximized, providing a huge incentive to defending.

The new patch changed the max level to 2, made it take around 5-10 minutes to level up, but also added a new mechanic where when you lose a resource, the keep downgrades. Basically what this means is, when you defend a keep for an hour, the resources are 100% likely to get taken, meaning instead of a nice 20-30k AP tick at the end, you will get around 2-3k. It will actually cost more AP in siege to defend a keep than you will be rewarded for doing so.

ZoS claims the change was to make resources more important, but they are clearly completely out of touch with how cyrodiil actually plays. When there is an entire alliance outside your keep sieging it, how are you supposed to go take some resources and hold them. You will just get zerged down and have no way back to the actual defense.

Ive PvPd the last few nights on xb1 and im actually making less AP / Hour than I was before summerset (when they added higher defense ticks). The most AP ive received from a defense was 6k. Usually I received less than 1k. I was in a 45 minute defense in vivec where roughly 300 blues died outside and got 438 AP as the tick.

Im not sure what they are thinking here. Cyrodiil is in really bad shape. Vivec isnt even pop locked during weekday primetime on xbox anymore. Shor is a ghost town. Now they take away the only good change theyve made in years. Even the people that do push through and keep playing will likely go back to the player vs door mindset we had for a long time. With no incentive to defend anything, keeps will be flipping back and forth and less actual fun fighting will be happening.

Balance and performance issues aside, I thought summerset was the best patch for pvp in a long time. Cyrodiil was booming with great fighting and people played the map more than ever. With this change I estimate shor will have to be removed by 2019.

Making the lower-level player in your dungeon group a scapegoat is not going to help you improve.

Posted: 29 Aug 2018 12:02 PM PDT

Unfortunately I guess it's human nature to automatically "assume" that the lowest level player in the dungeon is the issue. There are definitely too many times where people that aren't even CP160 bite off more than they can chew by attempting to do a vet dungeon while failing to contribute.

But I've also seen way too many instances where people that are in the 400-Max CP range that just aren't as good as they think they are or just aren't good at all. If you're being outperformed by a lower level and have the audacity to vote for them to be kicked; chances are you still won't be able to complete the dungeon because YOU are the problem (unless you're lucky enough to get carried). Accountability is key.

Khajiit Stamblade should I get vampirism? (For solo content such as vMA)

Posted: 30 Aug 2018 04:04 AM PDT

Hello,

I'm a Khajiit Stamblade, CP350.

Before you tell me "go look on google": I've already done that, and every discussion is centered around a Dunmer Vampire, but I'm not Dunmer.

My goal is to be able to beat stuff solo, like vMA.

Should I get Vampirism?

My stats with Dubious Camoran Throne:

  • Health 15k

  • Stamina 33k

  • Weapon Damage (unbuffed in town): 3k

  • Crit Chance: 60%

  • Stamina Recovery: 1400

Vampire seems like fun, with extra stam regen and damage mitigation below 50%, but the low fire resistance is not that fun, specially as I'm a Khajiit.

What's your thoughts?

Pretty disappointed in Stamina DPS build variety

Posted: 29 Aug 2018 03:08 PM PDT

Oh look, yet another build that is forced to take Re-arming Trap, Endless Hail, Poison Injection, Razor Caltrops and the optional not-so-optional Blood Craze/Carve just to be competitive.

I really wish builds didn't have an entire bar already pre-determined. Makes every class feel the same.

Is selling (160) Blues and Greens in the Guild Trader even worth it (rather than selling them to the NPC)? Do people even buy them?

Posted: 30 Aug 2018 04:08 AM PDT

I can understand selling Gold and Purple.

What do you guys do?

Is there not a version of the game you can buy that comes with all of the dlc?

Posted: 29 Aug 2018 07:38 PM PDT

I bought the digital upgrade version of summer set with the standard game and noticed all the DLC but with how many crowns they are, it seems like it'd be well over 100 just to get all the dlc

Kicked from group...

Posted: 29 Aug 2018 03:28 PM PDT

I started playing eso within the last 2 months. Xbox NA. Made a healer because i knew they would be needed. Got to cp190 now and loving the game. Never played an mmo before but i did lots of research including dungeons so i wasnt going in blind. Anyway I just subscribed so i thought I would take care of the dlc dungeons on normal for the skill points. Did white gold tower without dying. Did imperial city prison only dying once in a wipe. I researched the mechanics and even watched videos before going in. So yesterday i got into bloodroot forge and i said in chat right away that it was my first run of this dungeon. Immediately I am kicked from group. No words from anybody. Oh well. Got into it again immediately (because healer queues) with a different group and it went smoothly. Got my skill point so I am happy. That is all :)

Good mindset?

Posted: 29 Aug 2018 09:01 PM PDT

I'm currently waiting to do vet dungeons and get more powerful. I feel as if I'm weak in a dungeon I will be just trouble for my group, or should I start the vet dungeons now?

Can we please remove mob immunity to taunts just because some prick wanted to be even more annoying than Drodda with an Ice staff.

Posted: 30 Aug 2018 04:17 AM PDT

I cant even count how many times some people taunt immune the boss of a dungeon and the boss goes on a rampage because the aggro is not on the tank anymore and instead on the everyone else but the tank.

As a tank I dont really blame them especially if they are new players, how are they supposed to know that heavy ice staff attacks taunt bosses.

So for peace of mind and quality of life. Could we please remove ice staff taunts or at least let taunts proc only on the group tank (He has to be assigned tank in the group menu). So even if ice mages heavy attack they dont wipe us by letting the boss not focus the tank anymore.

Or hell, let the taunt procs only work on people with the highest health (NO offense to squish perma block tanks)

ZoS..About These New Dungeons

Posted: 29 Aug 2018 08:08 AM PDT

Damn. Hats off to you. As someone who stopped PVEing after getting burned out on vet trials and moved in to mostly pvping, these were both extremely enjoyable to complete on vet. I have loved most of the DLC dungeons, but the design, mechanics and flow of these two are just amazing.

Great job on mixing it up and adding new and exciting elements to boss fights. Our group was having a blast last night. They are just hard enough without destroying your soul to the point of unenjoyment. I honestly recommend everyone giving them a shot.

We can't wait to hop back in tonight to finish out our jewelry sets and start working towards the no death/speed runs!

Edit: AND they both are beautiful, especially March of Sacrifice.

I installed a mod but I don't know what those box symbol mean beside the items. Does anyone know?

Posted: 30 Aug 2018 03:53 AM PDT

What is this mod?

Posted: 30 Aug 2018 03:50 AM PDT

What is the mod called that allows you to create tabs in your inventory and label it with a name (so that you can sort out your 10 different sets of gear)

Is my noob magsorc build any good?

Posted: 29 Aug 2018 04:51 PM PDT

Hey guys I could use some help with this:

BUILD

it's made to work decently in both pve and pvp but I'm new and not sure if I'm missing something important

wondering if the passives from Bound Aegis and Inner Light are really worth it, I could use those spots with other skills, I have no problem juggling many active skills.

staff on front bar is lighting, items in general are random purples I found with mag user bonuses on them, nothing planned or farmed yet

I seem to keep getting top scores in pvp, are people really bad at pvp in this game in general?, I was thinking I should suck with a really unoptimized build like this, is there at least some hidden MMR system for BG?

also, any must have skills in the Psijic or Vampire line ? I don't have those yet

I sometimes get a flame staff for second bar and go crystal frags/force shock/rune prison combo but it seems to do low damage, probably because no set bonuses or things I don't know about, would like to learn if there is a way for massive single target bursting in pvp

then there's CP, many guides, I know about jump points (stupid idea), but don't seem to find where to put the very first few points, I'm just at aroud 200; for example are Blockade of Storms and Lightning Flood dots for Thaumaturge ? so many questions just on CP alone

also any general magsorc build things that are MUST KNOW? I theorycraft a lot on builds but I'm new and surely missing a lot of info still and google is full of outdated crap

thanks for taking the time to read noob questions!
