DayZ was officially released to the Xbox Game Preview program on August 29th. We welcome all these new players to our community and are excited to hear about their stories and experiences.

A Brief History of the Console Version of DayZ

During Gamescom 2014, Dean Hall, DayZ's founder, first announced that DayZ would be hitting the PS4 and Xbox market, and it would require an engine overhaul that would benefit both PC and console versions. In an interview shortly after, Dean stated: "Day one we considered replacing the renderer. However, that would have delayed the project a tremendous amount, and we did not have anywhere near the resources to do it – nor a reason to fund that let alone the ability... If we did this just for the PC version, that is development money gone away from the game, simply to make it look better with no real chance to recoup the costs. [A console port] allows for this improvement."

At E3 2015, Xbox with its 'Game Preview' program, announced that an early access version of DayZ would be one of the first games released from an indie developer to their program.

In late November of 2017, DayZ would be confirmed by the development team to hit the Xbox Game Preview program at roughly the same time the PC version hits Beta in 2018. Refer to Eugene's section in this Status Report

How much will DayZ cost on Xbox One?

DayZ will be using a standard premium game model (so no free to play, or any in-game monetization) during the Xbox Game preview, and it will be available for 39.99 USD. You can check your local price when the product page becomes available on the Microsoft Store. The price of DayZ will increase with the release out of Game Preview - the final version of DayZ will be available for 49.99 USD across all platforms.

Is there going to be a trial version available?

Yes! You will be able to enjoy one hour of free playtime that you can use if you're not sure about the purchase yet. The trial version will run on its own servers, and will not have character persistence (meaning that your character progress will not save during your first hour, and will not transfer into the full Game Preview!

How many servers will be available for the launch?

As many as needed! We have a good, scale-able setup that will always run enough servers for everyone to join, there will not be a fixed number of servers available. We'll also have teams monitoring the server status 24/7 in the first days after the release to make sure everything goes smoothly!

Do you expect people to provide feedback?

Yes! We want to get all the feedback - you can use our Feedback Tracker the official forums, or even our social media channels like Twitter, Facebook, or Discord !

Can players start their own private servers on Xbox?

Not right now, but we definitely want to have that option in DayZ later on.

Are there cars and helicopters on Xbox?

No, not right now, but before leaving Game Preview, we'd like to have both on Xbox One. Especially cars play an important role in the DayZ gameplay!


You may also find and post content to r/dayzxbox. Xbox content is encouraged on both subreddits but the content can be found catered for the xbox community at r/dayzxbox. These two subreddits will complement each other much in the same way as r/PUBATTLEGROUNDS and r/PUBGxboxone. Several times I thought I was losing health to weather or something. Until a friend was asking about the game, so I broadcasted it on mixer, and what do ya know,...there is an entire section cut off on my screen. I can't see the hydration meter so I find myself immediately drinking anything I pick up.

An option to adjust the safe zone would be awesome. For some reason my Sylvania tv doesn t have an aspect ratio option in the settings.

This status report flat out says:

"I'll just mention that the Xbox One release shows Enfusion Engine as the future of Bohemia, .....and the possibility to bring our unique titles to all platforms. It's a big milestone for us and for Bohemia as a whole."

Now, how a huge milestone could somehow be a simple port and somewhat of an afterthought since the "PC build was the priority", is beyond my comprehension. However, I have seen countless companies make the transition over to the console market with an existing IP, and over and over again the same thing is said, "PC build is priority!" yet the players end up seeing the PC build get cut short, thinned down for platform congruity, and over all not as good as its predecessor was, over a console build.

Now, Im not saying that what BI did was a bad move for their company. However, it was shady to mislead the PC player base just out of fear of backlash. They had ample opportunity to be honest about what they were doing over there.. making BI able to move into the console market.

Now if you seek proof.. just turn to Rocket. He mentioned contracts with Sony and Microsoft before leaving forever. He also said well before that, what BI and his plans were for the SA dayz. And those plans went COMPLETELY out the window, when Sony and MS stepped up to the cash grab and wanted in on the DayZ craze.

Remember what BI initially said back in 2014? - "We are going to make SA DayZ more optimized, add more features, and make the game so much better than the mod." Then suddenly.. Rocket was off to some meetings, then he was in interviews. And everything changed drastically. Now they spoke of changing out the engine... and funny thing is, it remained almost entirely the same, except for the graphical side and some small security fixes for scripting, etc.. but the big change was suddenly the game was on an engine that was compatible for consoles to the point that it would pass their certification process.

Then right before it ACTUALLY passed.. Brian left forever. Creative Director #2 leaves BI. And Peter makes a change to the shooting mechanics.. that almost everyone freaks out over. But, while that was going on.. DayZ passed cert. for MS.

Now players on the Xbox build can find heli crashes and other events.. but we dont have our build on experimental that is equal. We have stress test builds that are unstable and being taken down within hours of going up, lacking features that the console build has, and overall is just not playable outside of testing.

But yes, the PC build is priority and the console is just a simple port that was an afterthought. Im sure that is the case, and everything I just mentioned was a total coincidence.

XBOX 1 New player needing help!

Hey got this game last night its ok. Im confused though, there doesn't seem to be enough loot items like food and water to keep me alive for very long, I haven't seen a gun drop yet, and the loot spawns seem few and far between. Whats the deal with this how am I supposed to survive in this game? I found a fresh water I can drink from but I only found one canned peaches my whole play time yesterday. I need help and suggestions on how to survive longer in this game.

Press your inventory button and pick it up on the "vicinity" box. Anytime I can't grab something off the floor, I can always pick it up this way. Hope this helps.

Can we have a sticky directing new XBOX players to the r/DayzXBOX sub?

With all the new players coming into the Chernarusian arena, we gonna have an explosive mix of pissed off people with the delay of the PC stable release, and the XBOX newbie questions and excitement.

I think it will be wise to organize this thing to avoid chaos :)

How fast does gasoline poisoning kill you?

I just teamed up with a dude and fed him a full canteen of gasoline. I could tell he was dying but I didn't know how long it would take. Just for future reference, does anyone know how long it takes to kill you?

So Xbox port is screwed (who knew) and servers are a mess so maybe just maybe could we give the kos a rest for a while till the game becomes playable?

I know kos is a constant gripe with this game (it doesn't really bother me) but until the port is less frustrating do we have to increase the frustration?

[XBOX] Co-op question

Can anyone on the Xbox tell me how the co-op works, before i fork out on the game? Is it local only, or can you have say a group of 2-4 players together on open online servers? Or can you simply all join the same server and just meet up? Single player is probably still decent, but would prefer if can play with mates. Thanks
