So they just finished building a new engine, but...

After seeing how much trouble the devs are having adding content, I got to thinking. This is probably gonna sound arrogant, but I feel like it's a decent enough point to make: unity, and other engines like it, have systems to add weapons and change everything, from statistics(the way it operates) to the animations for different situations. It takes very little time at all and is a repeatable process for all weapons.

So why are they struggling to implement the weapons (and other content for that matter)? If they just rebuilt the engine, why wasn't a simple way to implement weapons and other models/animations added to make content development speedier?

why is it still so ineffective at its job?

I'm not bashing the devs, I'm genuinely curious as to why this is still the case.

Pretty Sure I Shot Myself

Had a zombie run up on me a little closer than I'd like, so I pulled my sidearm and got off a few shots... and then instantly died. I think I remember seeing someone else complain about shooting themself in close combat. Is this a bug right now?

  • 2. Do you Jog more than sprint, sprint more than jog or 50/50?

  • 3. More than 1 weapon? - If so favorite secondary?

  • 4. Favorite melee weapon?

  • 5. Do do bother wearing a military vest or a Helmet because of the weight?

  • 6. your Favorite type of bag?

  • 7. more than 1 spare mag if given the choice?

  • 8. Carry more than 1 water bottle?

  • 9. Do you try to unload every bit of weight you can? example - opening cans, unloading spare mags, etc?

  • 10. Do you now add a melee weapon on the hotbar to deal with infected?

The classic vault combined with the climbing system and jumping would make for some pretty versatile and interesting movement options. We might not always want to jump a fence (we might be sneaking or something) and climbing might be over the top in situations.

Auto jog with Logitech gaming software?

Does anyone know how to setup an auto jog macro with the Logitech gaming software? I tried "multi stroke" and set it to depress W once and repeat with a very small delay.

It works but then I can't untoggle it. I have to alt tab for it to deactivate. Any ideas?

[REQUEST] Make the Scope glitch (turns invisible) a feature and add a camera in-game.

This bug can turn into a very cool feature for the game, that would be greatly appreciated by a LOT of people.

The photo could be saved as a jpeg into an in-game photo that could be carried (great for RP or serious servers), or to a folder with screenshots.

Some Questions and Concerns (Status indicators and graphics)

ATTENTION

THIS IS JUST CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, COMMENTS, AND QUESTIONS. DON'T ALLOW YOUR PANTIES TO BECOME BUNCHED.

 

Played experimental 0.63 for a bit longer than usual and realized what it is I dislike about 0.63 besides the current implementation of the stamina system.

 

1) Everything is washed out, can I use SweetFX to fix that and how do I do that?

EDIT I've played for a few hours now. Once I got inland it brightened up. I think it's from that fog (which I hate) that's on the coast.

2) the constant howling of wind is irritating and not immersive at all imo.

EDIT after playing a while, this is still the same. 95% of the time over a few hours, it has been nonstop.

3) I dislike the having a blood and health indicator. I feel new players will see this as redundant, because it is in a sense. Can't they just combine that with the health indicator?

EDIT They aren't as bad as I initially thought....but they still need some improvement imo.

4) The arrows indicating the change of state of each mechanic seems useless to me, at least for the thirst and hunger. Obviously those will ALWAYS be going down unless you're eating or drinking.

EDIT I still think the arrows are redundant. I pay no attention to the icons unless they change colors. So they might as well remove the arrows imo.

5) The arrows only show change if I'm not mistaken, so I guess if there are no arrows we just assume it's all good? What about for thirst and hunger? How do we know when to stop drinking or eating? There is no full indication or indicator that shows your hunger and thirst are maxed out.

EDIT I see wolfgeists response about not having green, in that the devs don't want us obssessing about maxing out those values. If that's true, I can agree with that. I still think it's important to know how much energy you do have, since it seems that the ceiling is pretty high and you have absolutely no idea how far above the white status you are.

 

Otherwise, I like the player controller. Not really a fan of the infected being able to stagger you with every hit, and you are NOT able to stagger them with every hit. Unless I'm just unlucky so far.

Don't like the stamina system in it's current state. I hope they allow some way to allow us to increase a stamina soft skill by carrying weight for a period of time, which will help to recover some of the stamina bar that is blacked out. Or allow stamina regen to become faster overtime as you survive longer or something.

EDIT Stamina isn't too bad I guess. I definitely needs to be tweaked imo. I don't have too much gear and I am missing half of the bar. That seems excessive.

I've added various edits above now that I've played for a few hours. I actually am really starting to like this. It took me a LONG time of reading about it and I played off and on for the past few months, quitting bc I didn't like it, but it's starting to grow on me.

There is a whole new learning curve, which is frustrating to me since I've got 1700 hours into this game, and I think that's why I hated it so much at first.

I still have my complaints, but I do like what I'm seeing. One thing in particular are the nights. They don't seem as pitch black (maybe I haven't played enough for it to reach full darkness idk) and the owls in the woods are cool. I also really like the hiking trails, I hike a lot irl so it's kind of cool to see.

To wrap up my impression so far, I REALLY notice the emphasis on a survival game and I can see how it's pvp-centric tendencies are going to fade. I'm sure gun fights will still be amazing, but it's now much more survival oriented imo. I've always liked the survival aspect so I'm glad to see this. Although i hope they tone down the amount of food on the final release bc it's so easy it's laughable; apples and canned food galore.

ANYWAY, if you were like me, reading this sub, seeing the hate, playing the game and hating the change; just give it a chance and stick with it for a while first. If you only played for the PVP before and absolutely didn't care about anything else, then I think you'd better move on and just play Arma or something, because I think those days are over. Not to say that pvp is gone, but as I said above, environment survival and survival against infected is now much more significant and can't be ignored.

Suggestions Needed for Crashing Issue, Please

My friend is trying to hop back in to try out 0.63 with me but Experimental crashes every time he boots (we can see the process in Process Explorer but shortly after launch the process disappears).

We have uninstalled, deleted any traces of Battleye and the DayZ folder in My Documents. We restarted, made sure video drivers were up-to-date, then re-installed while running steam as admin but the problem persists.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

DayZ Standalone keeps crashing on the black “DAYZ” screen when launching.

I was in the middle of changing servers when my DayZ Standalone crashed. Thinking it wasn't a big deal, I tried loading it back up only to find that it will crash upon second of launching. No "bad module" message, nothing. It has now not launching for four days now. I have tried to verify my game files and reinstalling. All to no avail. As anyone had this sort of problem and knows a solution to it?

Error when trying to start the game

When I bought DayZ I downloaded the game, then downloaded experimental. Been playing for a couple of weeks fine.

I tried to start the game yesterday and now I just get errors.

I've tried the following;

Verifying game cache

renaming game files to force steam to re-aquire them

Uninstall and reinstall (then opt into EXP and install that)

Same errors occur.

EDIT: It's a different file error each time. EDIT: I've tried running as administrator EDIT: Latest graphics drivers installed EDIT: DirectX up to date
