All Forsaken Information from Game Informer Article

Posted: 04 Jul 2018 06:08 AM PDT

Hello Guardians,

Yesterday Game Informer announced that the cover game for the August Issue would be Destiny 2 Forsaken. They then released the digital copy of the magazine which contains the following information. Thanks to /u/GimmeFuel21 for sharing the contents of the article!

In this post I'll be bullet-pointing all of the interesting information from the article. It's going to be a long list, so strap in for the ride. There may be crossover with already known info, but I wanted this to be a comprehensive list so wanted to include everything.

Warning that there are Spoilers ahead, so stop now if you don't want to be spoiled.

  • Forsaken campaign begins with the Prison Break mission which ultimately ends with Cayde's death. Petra Venj assists us during this mission.

  • While the Scorn were once Fallen, corrupted ether and repeated reanimations has mutated them. They were locked in the deepest parts of the Prison of Elders.

  • Mongrels tower over the battlefield, blasting out cascades of lightning that are near-impossible to dodge.

  • Arachnid-like Screeb scramble on all fours, and explode like Cursed Thralls, only bigger.

  • Raiders sedd pit spinning explosive saw blades of void energy and teleport.

  • Lurkers carry small gladiatorial shields which block shots until hit in the leg.

  • Ravagers (the author's favourite) hold spinning lanterns which when slmmed into the ground great a spout of solar flame, unless the lanterns is shot first.

  • Chieftains are the ones holding all the new enemy types together (much like a captain). They will throw out one of three elemental totems.

  • Solar Totem is basically a dangerous spinning turret of flame.

  • Void Totem gives shields to nearby enemies.

  • Arc Totem attracts the Guardian to the Totem's center, leaving them unable to move away until it's destroyed.

  • The Scorn are the most aggressive of Destiny 2's enemy types.

  • The game goes to great pains to make sure you hate the guy who pulls the trigger as Uldren uses the Ace of Spades to kill Cayde.

  • There tries to be a balance as Uldren kills Cayde trying to find his sister, and we go after Uldren for killing Cayde. It's cyclical.

  • Each subclass gets a new tree, which drastically changes how the super works.

  • 3 new subclass trees available on day one, then one or two weeks before you can earn another few.

  • Here is a breakdown of the new supers, there's another post with a better write up than I could provide here.

  • Forsaken's campaign takes place in the Tangled Shore.

  • Regular Fallen clash against the Scorn, the Hive and scattered Red Legion enemies in the TS.

  • The big Fallen captain shown in the trailer is called 'the Spider' and is the vendor for the Tangled Shore.

  • There is an uneasy alliance between the Guardian and the Spider. His spike-backed Fallen enforcers often accompany me on subsequent adventures, lending support while rarely wading into the most dangerous confrontations.

  • Early on, the Spider wants some new invaders dealt with, later on he cashes in more favours to demand yet more work, hunting down outlaws from the Prison of Elders from across the system.

  • These enemies are more spread out, and can be in random world locations, strikes, in the middle of Gambit matches or in high-level Lost Sectors on old planets.

  • The meat of the Forsaken campaign deals with the Barons in the Baron Hunts. Each Baron's name is rooted in a Western archetype.

  • The Rider pilots a Pike.

  • The Mad Bomber throws out explosives.

  • Majority of Baron hunts can be completed in any order. After 6 are dead the game moves back to a more linear path as we've come to expect.

  • You then kill 2 more Barons, then go for Uldren.

  • Author was very impressed how every Baron Hunt felt bespoke.

  • The Rifleman is a sniper, so the mission focuses on long distance encounters.

  • The Trickster baits the Guardian with traps and hidden explosives.

  • Barons are reminiscent of strike boss encounters, demanding distinct strategies to match their abilities.

  • Impressed by the intuitive nature of the new weapon slot system.

  • Bow is now the author's favourite weapon to shoot.

  • New Public Event called Cryo-Cell Escape, where a Pod CELL FROM THE PRISON OF ELDERS crashes down, and enemies try to retrieve their captive leader. After a few waves the pod will open and you'll fight the leader once held in the cell.

  • Lost Sectors in the Tangled Shore are more nuanced than before, one contains a Fallen Black Market fighting ring "and a chance to learn about the Fallen's bizarre take on a dance club".

  • The closing act of the main campaign teases a greater threat, forcing my Guardian to turn from thoughts of revenge to something more important.

  • A strange voice calls to Uldren from beyond the Awoken Watchtower, within which lies the greatest secrets of the Awoken.

  • Ammo type is no longer directly tied to weapon slots.

  • Many weapon archetypes are moving out of the Power slot.

  • Hawthorne's Field-Forged Shotgun is now Kinetic.

  • Primary/Secondary using White Ammo: Auto Rifles, Bows, Handcannons, Pulse Rifles, Scout Rifles, Sidearms and SMGs.

  • Primary/Secondary using Green Ammo: Breech-Loaded Grenade Launchers, Fusion Rifles, Shotguns, Snipers and Trace Rifles.

  • Power using Purple Ammo: Drum-Loaded Grenade Launchers, Linear Fusion Rifles, Rocket Launchers and Swords.

  • Main Ingredient is now in the energy slot.

  • The Dreaming City is the long-hidden home of the Awoken.

  • Acts as an inspirational location filled with secrets, new activities, a new raid and dynamic content that changes week to week.

  • There are story threads that you learn towards the end of the campaign that are only fully paid off once you beat the raid.

  • Just like the Tangled Shore, the Dreaming City is a full-sized destination about the size of Nessus.

  • You won't go to the Dreaming City during the campaign.

  • There's a quest after the campaign to reopen access to this destination.

  • Forsaken moves the Level Cap to 50 and the Power Cap to 600.

  • "The Dreaming City is the most picturesque work the developers have produced."

  • Dreaming City is infected by the Taken. After arriving for the first time you are pulled into the Ascendant Realm.

  • Destination exists in both planes and will take weeks to unravel the mystery.

  • There is a 3 week cycle to how the Dreaming City will appear.

  • Petra Venj is the Vendor and guiding character for the Dreaming City, and will move around during the 3 week rotation.

  • Over time, new missions and secrets will reveal themselves. Enemy configurations and power levels change. The Taken curse takes a greater hold.

  • At the end of the cycle, a greater secret awaits discovery for the pinnacle players to confront.

  • Another new Public Event in a Tower Defense style called Rift Generator. You power up an Awoken attack pillar to hold off a Scorn invasion.

  • Loot Caches provide offerings to take to the Blind Well, a new take on Wave-Based fights like Court of Oryx, Archon's Forge and Escalation Protocol.

  • Entire area gets shrouded in Taken Gas, except for the areas you're allowed to fight. As you work your way around you get more space to fight. Culminates in a boss.

  • Around the DC, dropped flasks will allow players to briefly glimpse into the ascendant realm to face special challenges, or travel along platforms or tunnels that don't exist in the real world.

  • At the center of the city is the Keep of Voices, where the new raid takes place. It will continue the narrative introduced with Uldren's madness in the campaign, and the revel of the greater threat looming behind the curtain.

  • Bungie were surprised that Destiny 2 didn't have the same staying power as Destiny 1, so began working on new features and fixes as quick as possible, like Masterworks, Escalation Protocol, Exotic Quests etc.

  • Does the Expansion Pass mean no more Story Content? "No, lore, story and characters are always important to experience in Destiny, the expansion pass is about moving away from the one and done nature of the story campaigns from DLC's past. It focuses on replayable experience and content that extends the game.

  • Barrett: "We wanted to shift the tone of Destiny to be a little bit darker. We want the tone of the story and the cinematics to actually reflect that. And that doesn't mean that comedy or humor doesn't have a place in Destiny, it absolutely does, but it can't be every time a character speaks or every time the Ghost talks that they're trying to do a one-liner joke.

  • Director has been redesigned to provide an intuitive guide to meaningful content (Flashing destinations when things are happening) and less focus on milestones.

  • Vanguard, Crucible and Gambit tabs are at the bottom of the screen.

  • All those activities as well as Flashpoint now refresh every 4 days, with Raid still being on a weekly reset.

  • Individual Strikes are now on Destination maps rather than only being accessible through a playlist.

  • One new strike goes through the Prison of Elders to dodge trains and fight on an old battlefield only familiar to original Destiny players.

  • Ships, Sparrows, Ghost Shells, Emotes, Shaders, Emblems, Exotics and Y1 Armour and Weapons can be retrieved from the collection.

  • Year 1 Armour & Weapons won't get random rolls.

  • Vault is expanding to 500 slots (up from current 300).

  • Mod overhaul features less conditions such as subclass or specific weapon requirements, but rather allow for more specialised gear, so adding a mod that increases in-air accuracy or increased damage against vehicles.

  • Triumphs are an evolution of the Record Books from Destiny 1. Out of the gate there are sections for Character, Destinations, Events, Gambit, PvP, Vanguard, Lore and Timeworn Labours, which are Triumphs only achievable during certain time periods.

  • New Lore, readable in-game such as Awoken Sacred Texts. 10-15 new stories to discover.

  • We wanted to tell a story about where Variks has been.

  • Cerberus +1 is a new Exotic Auto Rifle with 4 barrels which shoots in four directions at once, can be devastating in the right circumstances.

  • The Drifter is not a Guardian.

  • New PvP maps and modes won't be available immediately at Forsaken launch, will be a few weeks after. Will be 4 new maps and new mode called Breakthrough.

  • Breakthrough involves 2 teams of 4 fighting to capture a 'breaker' which will allow that team to hack the enemy's vault. Once the Breaker is captured it turns to a attack/defend style mode with one team defending their vault while the other team tries to attack it.

This article has me even more excited for Forsaken now, would love to hear what you think!

With the new skill trees coming in Forsaken, shouldn't the old ones also get an update?

Posted: 04 Jul 2018 04:26 AM PDT

Just by seeing and reading about the new skill trees, the old ones seem pretty underpowered and boring compared to the new...

I would like to congratulate New Monarchy on their win in the final faction rally of the season.

Posted: 04 Jul 2018 02:49 AM PDT

It was a hard fought win and completely unexpected. After grav lance and sunshots ... er... Ded orbit and FWC.... completely unpredicted victories it was good for sweet bidnes to get up for the last rally.

Well played to all involved.....

Bungie, with all the new things coming with Forsaken, please do not continue making "story-mission-strikes"

Posted: 04 Jul 2018 07:41 AM PDT

as the title says.

since Curse of Osiris, we've seen this trend of specific story missions being re-used as strikes; and respectfully, it feels lazy and comes off as if it were an afterthought; simply slapped together last minute.

The community has been critical of this since it has been a thing, and moving forward it should not persists.

You should check Guardian Theater to see if there are clips of you.

Posted: 04 Jul 2018 07:27 AM PDT

This hasn't been posted in a while but you can look for your tag name at Guardian Theater. You should show up there if you were playing with or against a streamer or an XBox player that saved a clip (IIRC). It's really useful, especially when you are trying to see you mistakes in Crucible.

FUCK. YES. Christopher Barrett has answered our prayers. More serious tone in Destiny. YESSS!! EDIT: He also says that Destiny in general is moving to a more darker tone and will be reflected in lore and dialogue and cutscenes. OUR PRAYERS ANSWERED!!

I’m a Warlock, and even I think Golden Gun needs a duration buff (on BOTH specs)

Posted: 04 Jul 2018 10:20 AM PDT

Now you know something is Super wrong. I'll see myself out.

It also needs some Combustion in there. Probably on the Six Shooter, but we should probably focus on it actually 1-shotting shielded enemies first, eh?

Why did we get rid of Combustion again? It was never overpowered.

Also, why did we nerf Golden Gun duration in the first place in a time when Bungie was talking about needing to buff things?

/sigh

According to the Gameinformer for August, here are all 9 supers.

Posted: 03 Jul 2018 03:29 PM PDT

Sorry for the long read lol, but I simply wrote what they did.

Titans:

Titan Sentinel's Code of the Commander: Melees cause explosions, but all void ability damage also attaches a Void Detonator, and any subsequent damage causes the detonator to go off and attach detonators to enemies caught in the explosion. Grenade energy partially recharges for you and nearby allies when detonators trigger. BANNER SHIELD can still be used for offense like normal, but holding guard creates a barrier wall of light that absorbs enemy attacks, but allows ally attacks to pass through.

Titan Sunbreaker's Code of the Devastator: Throw your hammer with the melee button, but it remains in the world – risk retrieving it where it fell to fully recharge your melee ability, and trigger health regen. The more solar-ability kills you get, the higher your damage, up to 3x. SIEGE HAMMER creates a flaming maul that hits like an earthquake and leaves behind flame tornadoes.

Titan Striker's Code of the Missile: While airborne, melee to slam into the ground like a bunker buster, and gain super energy for your trouble. If you pick up ammo while sliding, you automatically reload your equipped weapon and increase weapon damage for a short time. THUNDERCRASH sends you hurtling great distances like a missile to hit a targeted area like a meteor strike.

Hunters:

Hunter Nightstalker's Way of the Wraith: Your melee smoke bomb heavily damages and slows those in its path. Nail the perfect precision kill against a foe to vanish and gain truesight. SPECTRAL BLADES drops you into a veil of shadows to slip behind foes and stab them before they know you're even there.

Hunter Gunslinger's Way of a Thousand Cuts: Knife-trick melees fling out a fan of burning blades. In turn, killing burning enemies recharges your knife trick, and burning enemies also recharge your dodge. BLADE BARRAGE doubles down on your knife skills to expel a volley of explosive kills.

Hunter Arcstrider's Way of the Current: Slide before a melee to unleash a staff-powered uppercut, and any melee hits increase your reload speed. All your arc abilities electrify your enemies, and subsequent melee strikes disorient them and refuel your abilities. Use your staff super like normal if desired, but WHIRLWIND GUARD means that you can guard by spinning your staff, reflecting back projectiles, and tripling your staff's damage afterwards

And Warlocks:

Warlock Voidwalker's Attunement of Fission: A new Atomic Breach melee ability creates a void explosion at range, while holding the grenade button down creates a short-range area explosion Supernova. Any void ability kills now heal you and grant ability energy. NOVA WARP empowers you with transdimensional hopping abilities, letting you repeatedly teleport short distances and then erupt in a burst of energy.

Warlock Stormcaller's Attunement of Control: Tap the melee button to fling out a long-distance electricity ball that eventually detonates and flings a lighting bolt straight downward. Arc Kills sometimes create Ionic Traces, a spark of raw arc energy that travels across the ground toward you, which can be collected to recharge abilities. CHAOS REACH fires a long-range blue beam of intense and focused damage dealing, which can be deactivated early to save energy.

Warlock Dawnblade's Attunement of Grace: Melee attacks burn bad guys, but empower allies. Transform your grenade (by holding the button) into a Blessing, a projectile that heals allies and drops retrievable overshield orbs. WELL OF RADIANCE slams your solar sword into the ground, creating a wide-radius aura that rapidly heals and empowers your friends. Any ability that heals or empowers helps regen your non-Super abilities.

These are an additional tree in each respective subclass, and the old super trees will still be around for us to use.

The worst thing about stupid long ability cool downs, is that some classes you have to avoid using your melee to avoid wasting the ability.

Posted: 04 Jul 2018 12:15 PM PDT

Nothing worse than having one enemy left, being out of ammo, but not being able to finish it off with a melee because you want the devour charge for the next room of enemies.

Throwing Knives and smoke bombs are a god send for being able to always use melee with out wasting your ability.

With the old 25-50 second cool downs, using a melee when you didn't want to use your ability wasn't so bad. But having to wait over a minute for it? Yeah I'm just going to painstakingly reload my gun just to fire one last bullet into an enemy.

Can we get a preview of the new bounty system?

Posted: 04 Jul 2018 08:11 AM PDT

Bungie, in your next TWAB can you give us a preview of the the new bounty system that you are implementing in 1.2.3?

Bungie hasn't said anything about this except that it's coming, so I feel that it's gonna be pretty basic. But here's to hoping for some weekly bounties to grind out!

I am very excited for bounties as I loved them in the original destiny. But my expectations are definitely tempered. Just a small preview for anyone else like me that's really excited for this? Thanks.

Forsaken will feature an ahamkara(continued)

Posted: 04 Jul 2018 12:52 AM PDT

A few weeks back I speculated on what the third statement meant on the Sealed Ahamkara Grasps. Mainly the quote: " Dreamer, awakened, the Bearer shall meet." It was quite spinfoil'y, and mostly speculation but the post didn't have many agreeing with it. TLDR of that post was "the Dreaming City is not only home to the awoken but an ahamkara too, by the name of eao." Anyway, with the august edition of the Game Informer subscription they mention that "the awoken homeland is under threat from an insidious dragon that has infected its heart." I don't know of many dragons in the Destiny universe but Ahamkara were great, bone dragons, right? If this dragon does turn out to be an Ahamkara then I was correct on the fact that one of these bone dragons has made it into the Dreaming City but doesn't yet confirm his/her name. Again still spinfoiling.

TLDR; game informer article more or less confirms my speculation about the dreaming city a few weeks back.

The Dreaming City wont feature actual Dragons (at least the quote isnt saying this)

Posted: 04 Jul 2018 08:33 AM PDT

Virtually drawn from the pages of a classic fantasy novel, this is the elven homeland under the threat from an insidous dragon that has infiected its heart.

I saw people saying or quoting this line or some parts of it in particular. This is obviously a comparision between the dreaming city the homeland of the awoken and elven homelands from classic fantasy novels. They also said that the taken have taken control over the dreaming city. Dragons (Ahamkara) or Worms are still kinda possible but i want to say that this quote is not a confirmation for that. I saw Datto even mention this and i think seeing this as confirmation is wrong

Bungie, can we bring back the old reticles?

Posted: 04 Jul 2018 02:58 AM PDT

They were some of my favorite sights to use (especially the inverse T) in D1 and made aiming so much easier imo. There were so many variations of scopes and sights to use in D1 but now in D2 all we have is a dot and pretty much nothing else. It's a relatively minor thing but I'd love to see some of the old reticles added to the game.

Here's a picture for anyone who doesn't remember: http://destinyscopes.com/#slo-19
