| A reminder of the many ways Sakurai has surprised us with character picks throughout Smash history. Posted: 28 Jun 2018 08:48 PM PDT Before naysaying anyone's (Nintendo) character picks, recall some of the ways Sakurai has surprised with characters in the past: *This is not a perfect list, but I tried to be as conservative as possible. I can make any edits you'd like to see. Characters the developers invented (almost) entire movesets for:
Characters that were not familiar to western gamers (when introduced):
Characters not from recent games (when introduced):
Characters we've never played as (when introduced):
Characters that were "too big" or Sakurai expressed doubt over:
And don't forget third parties-- some with strong connections with Nintendo (like Mega Man) and others with barely any connection (like Cloud) And of course, do not forget many characters are intended for games but due to poor timing, have to wait until the next game to be introduced. | Posted: 28 Jun 2018 07:40 PM PDT Many of you might have seen a Japanese Duck Hunt player place Top 32 during Hyrule Saga. That was none other than Raito! Due to misinformation, Raito is unable to catch a return flight to Japan. Thus, he's set up a fundraiser to pay for one, which is currently a little less than halfway from completing the donation goal. Unfortunately, the deadline for it is tomorrow. Should the donation goal not be achieved, he won't be able to make it to EVO 2018. Raito played amazingly during Hyrule Saga and every other tournament he's been in. I have no doubt that he'll play just as great during CEO 2018, and I thoroughly believe that he deserves to compete at EVO this year. Seeing as how the Smash community got together to reach Silent Wolf's donation goal, it gives me hope that the same could be done for Raito. Let's help bring him home! [link] [comments]  | ||

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 06:20 AM PDT Obviously the legal nightmare that securing him would have entailed basically means he was destined to be cut from Melee, but what if he hadn't? Suddenly Smash would have a character that, while featured in multiple successful video games, was not primarily a video game character. The immediate thought that jumped to my mind when reading that Bond was considered was that Goku, the paradigm of insane Smash choices, would actually be reasonable potential newcomer. Heck, with the floodgates open he might have even got in by now. We could have actually gotten a fight between Goku and James Bond in a Nintendo fighting game. While I certainly don't want Goku as a newcomer to keep Smash game-focused, part of me can't deny how enticing such a game would be with insane characters like that. [link] [comments]  | ||
