Bungie should’ve put all 3 catalysts in each faction and allowed us to pick one at rank 50

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 07:27 AM PDT

By assign only one to each they've caused a lot of guardians to abandon their loyalty to their preferred faction. It made the entire event about the catalyst and not about the faction. The faction that wins this rally will really just be telling us which catalyst was desired the most.

Make Us Only Have a Single Ghost (Which is Fully Customizable)

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 08:02 AM PDT

Instead of having various ghost shells, why not give us one fully customizable ghost. Previewing the ghost should give a similar screen as when viewing the guardian with the following loadout:

Left-side slots:

  • 4 for ghost modules, e.g. 10% exp gain ...

Right-side slots:

  • 1 for the ghost's shell;
  • 1 for the shell's shader;
  • 1 for a ghost shell effect, e.g. inclement weather around the ghost; and
  • 1 for the ghost's voice, e.g. Shaxx.

All ghost modules should be unlockable with modules linked to activities related to the module, e.g. 10% exp in strikes requires 5 strikes to be done with certain modifiers enabled. "Cosmetic" slots can be obtained from Prototype engrams, strike loot, raid loot, or crucible loot. Any thoughts?

Edit: As some commented, re-recording all the lines will be illogical. I think throwaway lines or side commentary during patrols/strikes/crucible would be a fun addition. This however will then be played through a comms system and not the ghost.

This is how I want to look in Forsaken

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 05:55 AM PDT

Time gated content needs to be reduced - the pressure it creates really turns one away from the game

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 09:30 AM PDT

I think we all see the biggest problem with Destiny 2 right now: The immense pressure you are being put on to finish activities in a given time frame. It's ok to have events like the Dawning, Crimson days and the likes have special time gated loot, since those events are themed and specifically created for a time period, all other loot in the game should be available to be obtained all the time.

Levelling

It was a good step to make levelling harder than in Curse of Osiris, but knowing that you need to finish Milestones weekly or you would lose out on power gains that week, put us under pressure to farm activities not like we wanted but in a most efficient way and then not return to that activity in the week. Especially with the raid lair coming, you needed not only to grind a lot but also extremely efficient (example normal raid first, then prestige raid).

Nightfall Loot

I don't mind the loot being rare and hard to obtain, especially with fixed rolls. I didn't get the Silicon Neuroma last time, now I need to farm it this week and with faction rallies on, there is almost no time and I probably lose out on it until Forsaken, where it might not even be viable anymore depending on how they deal with our current weapons and gear.

Faction Rally

It's pretty obvious that it's not fun to know you only have one rally per faction and need to finish everything in a week. I don't mind the ornaments being class based generally, but just let us earn them all the time.

It's incredibly demoralising to feel forced to grind content in a given time frame or you lose it. I played Competitive today, lost 100 points and then we tried a Nightfall high score run only to wipe twice on the last boss. It's ok, that stuff happens. I would like to step off and try again at a later point but then this pressure pops in knowing I have to go back NOW because who know how long it will take and it will be gone again on Tuesday. This really just gives me the feeling of a chore rather than lighthearted gaming. I hope Bungie rethinks their approach to this and gives us more freedom on when we want to play what content.

Factions being permanent would be the best of both worlds

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 09:19 AM PDT

Faction Rallies are still very flawed to me. It's a stale gameplay loop that requires you to no-life the game at an insane pace for 1 week or else you miss out. This is not an argument that everyone should be able to get everything, but rather the belief that everyone should be able to play at their own pace and not be penalized because they couldn't put 30 hours into the game in a one week span.

Making Factions permanent would solve part of the problem and would be a good starting point; here's why.

The current system requires you, at the very minimum, to get to rank 50 on each faction if you plan on getting each Exotic Catalyst. Except you can't play at your own pace, you have to burn yourself out in a week to get it. I'm a few ranks away from 50 myself and I'm sick to death of doing public events patrols and lost sectors over and over. The Rally requires players to stick to the same boring loop if they expect to even come close to reaching rank 50.

Instead of the sprint we have, I would much rather have Factions be permanent so that I can grind whenever I want, however I want and be able to make progress on my Faction all the time. Sure, keep the catalysts locked to their respective Factions at Rank 50. But let us unlock them on our own time. This way I can play what I want, make progress on the Faction/Rank 50 and not have to stress about missing out on the catalyst/exotic ornaments/armor ornaments.

I should be able to make progress on my Faction all the time.

Let us change Factions once a week like in Destiny 1, and buff the reputation rewards from activities like Heroic Strikes, Prestige Nightfalls, and Raids so that Lost Sectors don't feel like the only option.

Now, I do actually like the Renown system. It's interesting. One idea would be making Factions permanent, but for one week have a Rally that introduces the Renown system and gives you double the rep gains for your Faction for that whole week. Those who want to take advantage of it can, and those who don't or can't won't be missing out. This idea could be expanded upon.

Making Factions permanent would also allow the introduction of story quests and exotic quests that players could work on after hitting certain ranks. I miss these kinds of things that aren't really practical in Faction Rallies because they are so short.

I really think the system we had in Destiny 1 was great. Faction Rallies should have been an addition to it, not a replacement. I'm hoping this was a topic of conversation when developing Forsaken and I hope it still is as we move closer to Season 4.

Bungie, please don't re-skin armor or weapons for Forsaken. Show us the creative side we've seen in D1 and give everything a "Fresh coat of paint".

Posted: 08 Jun 2018 11:12 PM PDT

Forsaken is the turning point of D2 for a lot of people and I feel like throwing down 40 bucks for Forsaken and logging on day 1 of the DLC only to see the same vendor armor and weapons at Shaxx and Zavala or getting a "new gun" only for it to be a better devils with scratches on it would be disappointing.

While ornaments are a fantastic idea they should work the way Iron Banner ornaments for season 3 have, a fresh new look or an effect rather than the same old set with a cloth wrapped around your arm and 2 new fins on your head.

Show us the creativity you showed in D1.

Please don't repeat the one and only downside of Warmind (to me), re-skinned armor and lack of new ornaments.

*Edit 1*For those that are new to Destiny here are two photo's showing the level of detail, armor and weapons in Destiny 2 could achieve.

Bungie said they don't want Destiny to be a second work, but this is exactly what this Faction Rally feels: a time gated and therefore stressful work

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 05:26 AM PDT

I've just finished grinding for the GL Catalyst and now I just miss two ornaments for a complete DO set.

Did I enjoy this grind? Not really.

Why did I do this? Because I was scared of missing stuff.

Is it the right way to keep people playing ? I don't think so.

People like us obviously love grinding, we want that sweet loot and we're willing to sped a lot of time to get it. But I don't want to be forced this way again. I want to grind my way, whenever I want.

I started with the idea of getting all 3 Catalysts, but honestly I don't think I still want to do it.

Faction rallies need more, 5-6 hours of lost sector farming is boring as hell

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 02:15 AM PDT

I know there are other ways besides lost sectors, but they're extremely slow in comparison. The best method seems to be farming on Titan because its the shortest and easiest lost sector. Factions rallies need something else besides a repetitive grind. I'm already dreading the next time this rolls around because I'm going to have to do this all over again for the sunshot.

Give something exclusive to faction rallies, or something that we can do that expands on the story of the factions. Currently, this is just a harder mode of patrols with a modifier and doesn't add more than the normal gameplay loop, it just places more of an emphasis on patrols and lost sectors. Its fine for one week yeah, but when this is rolling around 3 times a season I doubt I'm going to maintain interest in it. Give us something extra for faction rallies that adds to the game in a meaningful way, like they should.

There obviously wont be enough time before the next rally, but try and cook something up for season 4 or 5 please.

Please give clans better rewards for maxing clan level

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 08:13 AM PDT

I was extremely excited to see that Bungie was putting more effort toward giving clans a reason to exist in D2, but the rewards altogether have been kind of meh.

I'm talking specifically about the perks for leveling up and the staff you get for maxing the clan level.

I help run a clan of 30 people and we have been hitting the max XP contribution and leveling up damn near the same day reset happens. The perks are just kind of there and don't change the game. I've had several discussions with clanmates who say they didn't even notice the clan perks kicked in. I've had the same discussions with friends in different clans. Give us something that changes the game. Reach max level? Gain 10% damage buff and faster health regen when in a fireteam with at least one clan mate. SOMETHING that makes a difference when playing with our clan.

As for the clan staff we get for maxing our clan level? It's purely cosmetic and doesn't really show off any of our accomplishments as a clan (unless someone inspects us and reads the flavor text). We also have to wait out the entire season to get the staff. Give us something that we can show off to other clans that can help motivate them to play more with their clanmates or to intice others to join or start their own clan.

Also, The Farm was a PERFECT place to host a clan social space. It would be pretty neat to fly in and be greeted by other clan mates and see our clan flag posted around. Allow us to decorate it by grinding for materials and placing them into a clan bank. Give us the option if we want to allow friends not in our clan, or in a clan, to visit when we are there.

What came with D2 is definitely more than what we had in D1, but it's almost not worth the effort to level up our clan. Please give us more things to chase after and make it worth while.

Destiny 2 makes me more worried about missing a reward than excited to grow my character

Posted: 08 Jun 2018 03:34 PM PDT

Over the past several months, I've noticed that I don't feel the same while playing D2 than D1. It's not just that the game feels different, but an emotional feeling, and I couldn't quite describe it. While running lost sectors last night, it dawned on me. I'm scared. I'm scared going to miss out.

The nature of "milestone" and "seasonal" rewards is that they're all are nothing and once the week or season has rolled over, they are gone. If I got only 99% of the way there, doesn't matter, it's done.

During Age of Triumph, just about everything was bounty centric. If I didn't finish a bounty one week, it carried over to the next. Sure, I missed a few drops because of duplicate bounties or limited bounty slots, and there were limited events. Still, I can't recall a moment where I felt like, "Dang it, I missed ____".

In D2, the weekly resent reset and the end of the season feel like threats. I feel like I'm playing to minimize missing a reward rather than playing to maximize my progression. It's a subtle difference, but it's definitely hurt my emotional connection to the game.

I know bounties are coming back, and I really hope they replace milestones. I understand that the goal of rewards tied to timed / limited content is to reward regular play. Unfortunately, the current system is more of a playground bully than a carrot on a stick.

Edit: I'm not complaining about the Faction Rally catalysts. I doubt these three faction rallies will be the only chance to get them. I do not like the amount of content that has a timer over it.

Edit 2: Thanks for the all the replies. I had never heard of "FOMO", and found those discussions very interesting.

There are several replies along the lines of "season rewards being limited is the point. How would players feel rewarded / stand out for their activity during seasons if the timer went away and those rewards were available all the time?". In a similar vein, "You're just whining and want the game to be easier".

I co-founded and admin a clan. We've got a full roster and around 20 active players every evening. I do a few raids plus a variety of other in game activities a week, and consider myself an active and dedicated player. I hope a player like me is Bungie's target audience, and I do think season rewards should be used to motivate players like myself.

I'm not asking for seasonal rewards to be easier to get, nor do I expect to get all of them. I want to be able to work toward the items I am interested in at any time. If I go slow, my penalty is that I would earn such rewards at a slower pace, and would get far less of them.

The super dedicated would still stand out, as they would be able to show off such items sooner and in larger quantities.

Lets make sure we don't forget to communicate that, despite some specific criticisms, this faction rally has been markedly better than past iterations.

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 12:39 PM PDT

I'm seeing a lot of posts crop up (many even making it to the front page) that are pretty negative about the new factional rally, due to certain aspects, such as the necessary time commitment to get everything, and only being able to pledge to one faction per account. I think these are fair points make. But I personally want make sure Bungie sees this event at at least the 80% success, 20% failure mark. A legitimate prize to grind for (exotic ornament and catalyst) and a pretty decent mechanic that actually changes the dynamic of patrols so that they actually seem dangerous and challenging at times is, imho, a BIG step in the right direction for faction rallies.

Anyways, I like it when I see people suggest improvements, but when I see people just complain about certain mechanics, it worries me that we might lose the legitimate progress faction rallies have made.

Any other hunters still getting consistently shot and tracked while invisible? (PVE)

Posted: 08 Jun 2018 10:06 PM PDT

I remember in D1 being invisible, the enemies wouldn't even track your position. Now not only do they follow me with their sights, many of them continue to shoot and melee as if I'm visible.

Brachion (spelling?) has always done this, and I figured yeah he's a boss. He's strong so why not? Now it seems that regular ads are doing it too.

Am I alone in this?

Friendly reminder, most supers need a substantial pve damage buff.

Posted: 08 Jun 2018 07:36 PM PDT

The ones that come to mind are Stromcaller (aka tickle fingers, literally).

Dwanoblade (aka you think you're throwing flaming scythes, but you're really throwing slightly warm boomerangs, that don't return to you).

FREAKING ORANGE BEAMS OF DEATH, otherwise known as Gunslinger, (aka Sleeper out damages me so much it's not even funny).

And finally, I'd say the Fists of Slovakia, (aka slam the same knight three times before it shoots you in the face and punches you to death).

They're not terrible in low level content, but they're pretty bad in any higher level content. (Also maaaaayyybe the sentinel too).

Edit: Man oh man, it's like most people have forgotten just how insanely powerful supers where in D1 Y3. Saying "it's good at what it does," or "you've got to know how to use it," doesn't justify the fact that a lot of the damage is TERRIBLE against anything but a redbar. Are you content with add clearing supers, when in D1 we had freaking dream crusher supers?! Like I said before, they're pretty good at what they do, if it's only on trash enemies. But we're wielding LIGHT, pounding earth shattering reality altering LIGHT! We should be ripping through anything that's not a boss when we cast supers.

I just finished grinding out 2 sets of faction gear, and 3 sets of ornaments, and getting to rank 50. I'm no longer excited for the next two Faction Rallies

Posted: 08 Jun 2018 11:07 PM PDT

Honestly I feel pretty burned out after doing this. The worst part for me was the stress of worrying that I might not ever get the full armor sets through RNG. I did DO this time, and if I do NM I'll have all the sets for them, but for FWC I only have one character with the full set, so I'm really hoping they fix the armor buying bug.

Anyway, time to take a break from Destiny for a while, I guess.

Edit: to make this a bit more positive, here's some semi-positive feedback.

  1. I like the unique rewards for each Faction, keep it up!

  2. I like account-wide rank-ups, though I don't like that they broke faction vendors.

  3. I like grinding for stuff. Just don't make me do it all in a week if I want to get all the stuff available. In a game with such limited cosmetic options, making so much of it only attainable during a one week period, 3 times during the season seems kind of mean.

  4. I liked the variety of challenges for Ornaments, but didn't like how they were made character-specific.

For those saying I no-lifed it, I mean, I guess so? I got everything just through playing for 2-3 hours a night after work, dinner, and putting the kiddo to sleep, so it's definitely possible to get it all done in a week. I just finished it a few days early.

I was once an Egyptian God

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 10:21 AM PDT

I didnt really pvp, but I did trials in D1 to become an Egyptian God. When they told us we would loose our armor I assumed we'd be able to get recycled content. Surely they'd reuse old models or recreate fan favorites, right? It didn't happen, but no worries THERE IS AN ENTIRE DLC FOR OSIRUS I'll get my Egyptian God armor back. Nope. I'd settle for a Chinese knockoff at this point. I miss my god armor.

For the love of the traveler, Bungie PLEASE don't show us every single exotic in Forsaken before it launches like you did for Warmind.

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 12:20 AM PDT

Exotics should be something that the community discovers on the first day together, not something that gets spoiled by marketing before launch. Bungie you have already shown off at least 7 maybe up to 9 exotics already! Please just stop there. We also already know exactly what 2 of them do as well. Just let the rest of them be a surprise Bungie. Don't even tell us how many there are, but if you feel like you need to tell us please lie and have more than what you tell us so we can have a few black spindle moment's again, thanks!

Exotic class items for lvl 50 faction rewards

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 02:29 AM PDT

An exotic catalyst behind a faction is kind of a good idea but it's really not. But how many of us would've reached level 50 right now if it gave us an exotic cloak or bond that gave us a chance to get extra faction tokens in everything and extra (2x) xp while wearing it

And the catalyst could give you 2x the tokens and you'd have to unlock it by doing lost sectors with 5x renown

There goes my Renown...

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 10:20 AM PDT

[Towerthought] There are currently no Fallen-centric Strikes in the Heroic playlist.

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 08:21 AM PDT

For the first time since its creation in TTK, the Heroic Strike playlist is lacking any Strike centered around one of the main four enemy factions (five if you count the Taken, but the Taken didn't even get a Strike until The Taken Spring, and the one they have in D2 is a PS exclusive).

Granted, the removal of Exodus Crash from the playlist was warranted, but it just occurred to me last night that it was the ONLY Fallen-centric Strike in D2Y1. Which then got me thinking that the entire playlist, from a perspective of which enemies get top billing, is very lopsided.

As of WMD, on PS4 there is 1 Fallen Strike, 1 Taken Strike, 3 Cabal Strikes, 3 Hive Strikes, and 3 Vex Strikes (on X1/PC that's 1 Fallen, 2 Cabal, 3 Hive, 3 Vex).

For reference, as of HoW, D1 had (again on PS4/3) 3 Fallen Strikes, 2 Cabal Strikes, 2 Hive Strikes, and 2 Vex Strikes (just 1 Cabal on X1/360). Fewer total Strikes, but far less lopsided in enemy distribution.

In short: I hope Forsaken adds LOTS of Fallen Strikes, some Taken Strikes, maybe a Cabal Strike and a Hive Strike... and no Vex.

EDIT: Fixed some of the numbers - for some reason I misremembered Tree of Probabilities as a Vex Strike.

Bungie should add eververse items from previous seasons to the heroic strike loot pool

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 06:30 AM PDT

I don't know about you guys but I think it's pretty dumb to lock away some coolest(and sometimes lore/story related) loot forever in a game thats main driving force is loot. This could help with the lack of loot as well as the lack of unique rewards.

Faction Rally should last 2 weeks and have buyable armor

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 11:29 AM PDT

Seen a lot of complaints about the grind and the time limited nature. I wanted to focus on ways to improve it relatively easily.

  • 2 week duration: gives more flexibility and less rush. You can catch up if you miss a few days. You could do most of the work with daily challenges. Part of me hopes this could be changed with this faction rally.
  • Buyable armor: This should have been a no-brainer. Just copy the system planets use and unlock all armor purchasing by rank 10. If you get there sooner, cool. If not there's a cap on RNG.

Thoughts?
