True Dota 2 - A Discussion Regarding Silencer

A Discussion Regarding Silencer

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 08:15 AM PDT

Hello /r/TrueDoTA2 this is my first post here, I posted this on /r/DotA2 and a good friend of mine suggested that I post here, so here it goes:

Before I start saying anything, I want to make everyone aware that Silencer is my top 1 favorite Hero and that I'm OBVIOUSLY BIASED because of that. Still, I think its a good and healthy discussion to have.

So, I've been watching a lot of Professional Dota, as I always have, and I noticed the absence of Silencer. Thats fine though, hes mostly a niche pick that can work very well under certain situations. But most big Cooldown ultimates got buffed at some point to avoid them being countered by cheap items, example: Not being able to Force Staff people out of Chrono/Duel/Black Hole.

Now, what I find weird is: Why such a long cooldown ultimate like Global Silence is so easily countered by a 2750 Item with easy build (Euls)? Silencer's Global is very powerful, I agree, it is definately an ultimate that can completely change the tides of a battle, but in professional Dota his ultimate always felt so... underwhelming. The moment a Silencer is picked, everyone and their mother are going to get a Dispel, and considering how easy Euls is to build, even supports won't take that long to have one, making Silencer's ult not useless per se as you can still cancel Channeling but very underwhelming for a 130 seconds Cooldown that costs 250/375/500 Mana.

Making things worse: In recent patches, IceFrog has been giving us more and more options to dispel buffs (which I like), but that only pushes Silencer further towards irrelevancy. Quick look at all the items that can purge GS atm: Euls, Lotus, Guardian Greaves, BKB (After global is cast) and Manta Style. That is A LOT of items, and A LOT of cheap ones too that can be used on self or allies.

Another point is that most people don't like the rest of Silencer's kit, which is kind of a Support/Transition style with 2 Magic Damage nukes and an auto-attack boost that makes the hero difficult to find a role for (Carry? Mid? Pos 4? Pos 5?). Personally, I love his kit (or he wouldn't be my favorite hero) and I don't see a problem with that so I won't use this as an argument, just mentioning it so people understand that Silencer is mostly about his ultimate and not much else.

To finish this gigantic wall of text, I don't have a specific suggestion as I'm a mere 4k player with a lot of Bias towards Silencer, but I think IceFrog needs to find a creative way to boost this hero up in professional dota, hes great in Pubs and I have more than 56% Win Rate with him (Had 60%+ before the patch that nerfed his Glaives damage), but the fact that I never get to see pro players play him in important matches strikes to me as him being weak at higher skill levels.

TLDR: I think something needs to be done about Silencer and I don't know what. He has mostly disappeared from professional dota and with new patches bringing new ways to dispel Global Silence, he gets pushed more and more towards irrelevancy as time goes on.

Thank you all for reading and I hope I expressed my points well enough for us to have a healthy discussion about my favorite hero, in the meantime: Enjoy the Silencer!!!!

Is the penalty on Bloodstone deaths too harsh?

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 07:47 AM PDT

I know that bloodstone has been getting buffs recently and that 14 starting charges is nice but whenever I get bloodstone on heroes except for timber, I get so stressed that one death and I'm back to 14 (or even less charges) and subsequent deaths only stresses me further.

What do you think of starting with lower charges (around 10 or even 8 as it was originally) and making the bloodstone lose only a quarter (rather than a third) of its charges. I know that its a very good item when your team is rolling but a couple of deaths and the item starts feeling so useless

Let's talk about Weaver in 7.12

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 07:37 AM PDT

So, Weaver's consistently been one of my best heros and somebody I'm good at playin: >70% winrate and he's my most played hero.

But I don't understand the people going for the EXP Talent instead of Manaburn. I've found the manaburn stacking with diffusal is amazing in every way and a really helpful item to Weaver.

Sure, you don't need the manaburn talent, but it's super helpful. synergy and all.

Anyways. Thoughts on Weaver? Recommendations? Advice?

Huskar without defensive supports

What's the best play style for this hero in the event that you're on your own with no defensive backup from dazzle or oracle?

Post your Aghanim's Scepter Ideas #3 - Clinkz

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 07:37 AM PDT

Thanks for all your comments in the Broodmother thread. Today's thread will cover Aghanim's Scepter ideas for Clinkz.

My Idea: Upgrades Death Pact. Conversion damage and health increased by 2% & 20% at all levels respectively (level 3 = 10% health added to damage, 100% health added to your health) and allows consumption of ancient creeps.

Purpose: A fairly straightforward aghs idea this time. At full efficiency, 2000 HP and 200 damage on consuming a dragon feels like a lot, though if you compare it to his regular ult you get 1120 more HP and 112 more damage compared to a 1100 hp jungle creep, and even less of a difference for dominated/chen creeps. It won't outperform a daedalus or bloodthorn for damage, but provides a significant amount of health to compensate.

Have fun!

Buybacks

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 08:34 AM PDT

What are people's thoughts on the proliferation of buybacks since the latest update? Seems like to really take any objectives you need to take a 5v8 with how frequent and cheap buybacks have become. Is this a good or bad thing for the game?

Hi! I'm back with a third Storm Spirit replay analysis -- Playing From Behind.

Hey.

I am Divine 3 Storm Spirit currently climbing the top 30 rank in Opendota and Dotabuff.

This is the third match commentary idea I've been meaning to cover in the series - for Storm players struggling with what to do when match isn't going in your favor.

I am however running out of ideas of what to cover next. Any topics people would be interested in? Let me know!

Help me get back into the game please.

I haven't played dota since a week after the release of pangolier and dark willow. Any advice for how to approach getting back into the game would be much appreciated. Also what should I know about the meta? Thanks

Tips for mids after laning stage

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 03:04 AM PDT

Getting back into dota after a long break. The last time I played and was actually good was before 7.00 during that patch when shadowfiend and storm spirit were always picked and could get like 600 gpm by farming jungle even if they lost mid. I would do well on plenty of other heroes as well, though.

At that time I was hovering around 4k mmr, now my solo is down to 3.6k and just can't seem to win a game. Actually I haven't won a single solo game yet, only party games. Laning stage is fine, I tend to do well and have dominated in a few games (only to lose later). I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong at a later stage. Unfortunately my dotabuff hasn't recorded some of my games and the ones it has are not really examples of what I'm talking about, so I'm just looking for what you should do, generally speaking, after the laning stage as a mid. Obviously it depends on the hero, but I'll take a hero I've been losing with a lot lately, Dragon Knight: so normally i push their tier one mid, take that, we're ahead on kills and towers, and then suddenly my hero just seems useless and I don't know what to do. In earlier patches I would farm jungle on the way to ganking, it was kind of a win-win situation, but now jungle is worth fuck all I'm guessing that isn't the play. Anyway, not sure how answerable this question is but I'll ask it anyway.

I've got like a 30% wr even though I try hard every game, what is going on?

Posted: 04 Apr 2018 06:49 PM PDT

https://www.dotabuff.com/players/73949616/matches?date=month&enhance=overview

This is really bothering me, I get most assists every game, buy tons of wards, always talk to team, but worst all I feel like I try really hard every game.

I don't feel like I'm tilted, I only get upset at the end of the game when we lose.

It's not even a mmr or w/e Issue I just like trying hard in games but it feels like I'm losing so friggin much. Some games I have guy that refuses to cooperate, feeds, plays bad, gets tilted, and I feel like the other team always picks most meta OP heroes while my team picks stupid stuff against them.

Mirana mid magic vs physical damage

Posted: 04 Apr 2018 10:35 PM PDT

Mirana is one of my favorite heroes and I've been playing her a lot recently, mostly mid even tho she's not the best atm. I almost always do well in my lane, and often get a couple solo kills. Most of the time I go aquilla wand phase maelstrom. Then go for diffusal or linkens and/or bkb, depending on what I need. But even tho I win a lot of these games I tend to feel a bit lackluster in farm speed.

Today I went offline mirana and built ags blink and it just felt so much better despite the later timings than I would get on mid.

In what situations would I generally want to go for either build? Also do you think meteor hammer is any good? Doesn't seem that bad if you get a good arrow, can doubles starstorm into chain-stunned meteor hammer, also gives the magic build much needed tower push, but definitely not an every game purchase.

Also what do you guys think of the new level 25 talent? Seems really good even without octarine, only a 5 second downtime is pretty crazy, especially if the opponent doesn't have a gem.

Why is Kunkka mid a bad idea?
