DEAR NIANTIC - ideas and suggestions for the devs

Posted: 02 Apr 2018 08:36 AM PDT

Hey Niantic! You guys made a game we all have a lot of feelings about...and this is our spot to express those feelings and make some statements about ways we think the game could be even better for us - and by extension, you!

If you want to complain about the game in a less constructive way please do so in the Salty Sunday - Rage Rants and complaints thread.

Here you will find ideas and suggestions - a mix of the positive posts and constructive criticism that reddit's Pokemon Go community have compiled and discussed and up/downvoted by importance and validity for us all. If there's one post on /r/pokemongo you guys should be paying attention to, it's this one, so please do.

Hey /r/PokemonGo Trainers! This recurring monthly post is for you guys. Sort posts by "top" to see what has been voted most important so far, but consider sorting by "new" as well to weigh in on the most recent ideas!

Please pay attention to the /r/PokemonGo rules for commenting behavior and civility, and use the report button when necessary to alert the mods to any post or thread that needs a review!

Past Q&A Megathreads

Known bugs (some have possibly been fixed):

See here for Niantic-recognized bugs.

  • New: Shadow-Bans If you have ever used a third-party service (such as an IV checker) that required you to log into your Pokemon Go account, and/or you have ever received a warning message about unauthorized access, you may have recently been "shadow-banned". You can still play the game like normally, but only common Pokemon will show up and you will not see "rare" spawns while others will. You will need to remove any such services, revoke their authorizations, change your password, etc. Roughly a week after doing so, people have reported the shadow-bans being lifted for legitimate players.

  • New in 0.59.1 The Pokédex displays genders for Pokémon you have caught, if applicable. However, code for genders was only added sometime in December/January. Any Pokémon caught/evolved prior to that will have a (randomly assigned?) gender in the Inventory, but will not properly display the gender in the Pokédex.

  • Sometimes while the game is loading it will get stuck on a white screen. This seems to be due to an anti-bot "Captcha" screen that didn't load correctly, and can usually be fixed by restarting the app.

  • There is a bug with the GPS not connecting properly, which results in nearby Pokémon spawns disappearing for a few minutes.

  • The game will randomly crash sometimes. Having the most updated version of the app and the most updated version of your operating system tends to minimize this, but it still happens.

  • There are graphical glitches sometimes where a Pokémon will spawn as a "miniature" version of itself. If you restart the app and are still close enough, it should reappear normally and be clickable.

  • There is a bug sometimes while battling a gym if you don't have a great connection. If you dodge an attack that would otherwise kill you, sometimes the game won't register the dodge and your Pokémon will "faint". Then the game will sync with the server and undo the damage that you dodged, but your Pokémon still shows as fainted and you can't actually attack.

  • If phone time is not set to Automatic, Incense and Lures may not work properly. Fix this by setting time to Automatic (in your phone's Time/Date settings)

There's this Pokéstop/Gym near me which seems inappropriate. Can I report it?

Use this link. However, Niantic seems to be preoccupied with other things now, so don't expect too much.

We have Niantic representatives on both here and /r/TheSilphRoad - please do not ping them for bugs which are in the known issues page unless you have found a niche yet gamebreaking issue/exploit.

Niantic should have given us masterballs for 100% catch rate Pokémon

Posted: 02 Apr 2018 03:27 PM PDT

For 100% catch rate Pokémon like shiny Lugia and Mew I think it would have been a nice graphical touch to give us masterballs.

[Question][Idea][Photo]Since the 8-bit icons are here to stay for the next week, I really wish they would be able to show as shiny, do you agree? (Paint skills showing an example)

[Discussion] Do you think Niantic should continue to punish older players by having raid cut-off times?

Posted: 02 Apr 2018 04:12 PM PDT

Title says it all, I feel like there are far too many adults that play this game in hours that aren't the average norm. Why is Niantic punishing players just to keep it so that younger players aren't out trying to do raids late at night?

It seems as if Niantic is too worried about playing the parent role in their game rather than making a good game.

Mew vs. Mew!

Posted: 02 Apr 2018 03:03 PM PDT

[Idea] I know "chat" is hard to realize in Pokemon Go. So i got idea to make " Ping" button. Ping will appear for 1 minute, then it'll dissapear. So can mark yourself for other players to communicate each other. So "Ping" has 5 minutes cooldown for avoid spam.

Does anyone else really like the 8-bit sprites?

Posted: 02 Apr 2018 07:53 PM PDT

I personally think they should keep the 8-bit sprites as a permanent option that you can switch on and off. I really like the look of the 8-bit sprites being displayed in the menu rather then the 3D model. I like the 3D models but the menu just looks cleaner and better to me when the Pokemon are displayed like that. There is just something really charming about the 8-bit sprites that gives me that same feeling I had as a kid playing the main series titles.

I really hope these research quests are sticking around

Posted: 02 Apr 2018 02:06 AM PDT

Like seriously this us brilliant.

I have tasks to do that aren't grinding for medals.

These put the fun back into the game once you've caught everything your Biome.

If they change up the reward Pokemon too, say for other ledgendaries, shines or regionals then it would be perfect!

I'm actually excited to play the game again because there's more of a point to it, especially as a solo player. I can't do a lot of the raids that I get round here. I tried a ttar raid and there actually was another player (couldn't actually spot them anywhere nearby so I'm assuming it was a spoofer) and still couldn't take it down.

I like the social aspect that the game has but I hate that it had become a crutch and something a fairly big chunk of the playerbase didn't have access to. This way it opens up new things for us to do and keep it interesting.

Please niantic, please let this be implemented permanantly
