Managed to get left behind at the end of Retribution whilst playing as Winston ;-;

Genji character progression is amazing.

Posted: 12 Apr 2018 04:13 AM PDT

Up until now I was entirely indifferent towards Genji. I am not really into ninjas or Japanese lore/culture. But after playing Retribution, you can see the biggest character progression in the game in my opinion.

From every quote he has during Retribution you can feel his anger, bloodthirstiness he holds against the world. He makes remarks about being impatient, wanting to kill, having no remorse. Expressing his bitterness on existence whenever he has chance. Even other characters make some comments about him. Topped off with a 'cry for help' when he responds to Mccree asking how It's like to be like Cyborg. He replies with something among lines "Endless agony and suffering."

But the Genji we know now is very much like Zenyatta. After all, even Zenyatta himself considers him his best student. He is patient, his anger is gone and he really gives impression that his soul is at peace. I am convinced Zenyatta have saved his life with his teachings.

Do you feel the same way about this? I might be biased, as I myself am going through drastic personality/mind change for past 2 years. It's an odd spot to be. Inbetween of the old you and the future you that you want to be. It's really refreshing to see Genji successfuly going through that change and gives me bit more faith.

...I need healing!

Be sure to report people for 'Gameplay Sabotage' for intentionally not getting on the ship in Retribution

Posted: 12 Apr 2018 01:48 PM PDT

It might only be a limited event and a PvE mode but these kinds of people will continue to troll other players and ruin their games. These kind of behaviours also transfer to QP and Competitive so be sure to do what you can.

Brigitte's mechanic skin with the golden weapon has a cool little detail.

Posted: 12 Apr 2018 06:51 AM PDT

As I was browsing which golden weapon I would get next I decided to look at Brigitte's and found that with the mechanic skin the shield gets some paw prints which aren't usually there with just the regular weapon (seen in the image below).

Just a cool little detail which might appeal to some people when making their choice on which weapon to get next :)

I hate to sound like a broken record, but Retribution has raised the bar in terms of Overwatch events.

Posted: 12 Apr 2018 06:43 AM PDT

Retribution feels like it needs to be part of the game year round. When I played it the very first time, I was actually enjoying myself more than I should have, but I was blown away. The cutscene was so well done and sets the scene perfectly. The banter between the group feels much more frequent and realistic than the Uprising banter. Someone here pointed out how Genji is impatient and more willing to kill, and honestly as a whole the entire level made me realize this was the first time they were showing us the lore, not telling us.

Michael Chu was tweeting us about the lore, we weren't reading about it or hearing about it from some one off voice line or interaction, we were actually seeing the lore being played out before us. We finally got the solid reason as to why Gabriel started down the path of Reaper and it was great. I really hope that the dev team can keep up with this standard because it's just so impressive!

Hotfix for people not getting on the dropship.

Posted: 12 Apr 2018 02:59 AM PDT

I have had 5 total attempts at legendary so far, 3 we actually made it to the dropship..., except for Genji.

EVERY

DAMN

TIME

So my proposal is this:

When the dropship arrives, give a small counter (time can be whatever) until it leaves. When the timer expires, the doors close and the ship leaves. Everyone in the ship get their normal victory and goes off to Overwatch HQ.

Those outside after the timer expires get left behind and get a 50% XP decrease. Flat removal. So all those "hunting for more points" can go get sniped and pinned down by the assassin in vain because their just being stupid and NOT LISTENING TO 3 OTHER PLAYERS AND 5 IN GAME CHARACTERS YELLING AT YOU TO GET IN THE DAMN DROPSHIP.

This can also be worked in with the lore, for example the ship can't stay long because Talon has deployed attack helicopters or something like that.

Assassin's screams are not from anger, but from pain?

Posted: 12 Apr 2018 08:43 AM PDT

Maybe it's just me, but when I first heard assassin's scream, my first thought was that someone shot her or she died. But soon I realized that assassins were making those screams when they teleport. Those sounds feel more like "being attacked sound", "being shot at sound", at least for me.

Now follow my thoughts for a second. Assassins teleport like Tracer. But Tracer's chronal accelerator was build specially for her and her condition (fading in and out of real world\time). So there is no way Talon could have this technology, mainly because Tracer got this weird condition because of an accident and probability that Talon could replicate that accident is really low.

So what are other means of teleportation? Star Treck style, when your body gets literally desintegrated to be rebuild atom by atom in new location. What if that's why assassins scream exactly when they teleport, and there is so much pain in their screams? Because they experience death (albeit quick one) each time they teleport?

Or maybe I'm just hearing things weirdly, who knows.

Blizzard, if you released a full game that was a series of missions like Retribution and Uprising I would buy it without hesitation.

Posted: 12 Apr 2018 01:13 PM PDT

Just sayin, Retribution is a perfect blend of Overwatch and a story-themed game people have been looking for.

Retribution gives me flashbacks

Posted: 12 Apr 2018 02:31 AM PDT

The Retribution event has only reaffirmed my opinion that I would sacrifice yearly holiday events for more lore-related events.

Posted: 11 Apr 2018 10:55 PM PDT

Easily. I've been playing since release, and I haven't DISLIKED an event yet, they're all very cool and have had a lot of work put into them. The holiday events have been great, fun skins and game modes.

However even if it was only for a single year I would easily sacrifice Lunar, Summer Games, Halloween, Winter Wonderland, honestly even "Anniversary" is really only the celebration of the games birthday, so they could do a lore event (or whatever they want) for it. I'd sacrifice them all (or just a few) for more lore events.

I think the main issue might be that these Archives events have easily been the biggest events with the most amount of work put into them, and therefore it would likely be very difficult for Blizzard to pump out 6 of them a year.

But I'd even just take 1 more, as in 2 a year. Or they could even COMBINE the holidays with a lore event if they wanted somehow. Or they could just not do Halloween (or any other) for a year and replace it with a lore event that year, and bring Halloween (or any other) back the following year.

Or they could do reskins of the current maps for lore events like they did with King's Row for Uprising, even that would be awesome as long as it added to the lore IMO. That would be easier than doing entirely new maps (like with Retribution). They could even try out PvP lore modes somehow, like Overwatch vs Talon. But we'd need a Talon tank or two for that...hint hint, wink wink.

I think a lot of people hold the opinion that they want more lore (and more lore events), but I'd totally be willing to sacrifice our current pool of events for more like this, so perhaps others would as well.

If people were worried about losing new holiday skins, I suppose they could just continue to add new holiday skins along with lore skins and stuff during these events if it dropped around say, Winter Wonderland for example. Example, the lore event in place of Winter Wonderland could add both lore-related skins and holiday related skins. They could even bring back the mini games (like Lucioball for example) if they wanted.

I suppose another issue is that holidays/seasonal type of events are just more easily digestible/marketable to a broad audience. Everybody loves the winter holidays, Halloween, ect., and a lot less people care about the lore events on average I'm guessing (or not, I dunno.) Perhaps from a marketing standpoint it's just easier to sell "Christmas Overwatch" than it is "Blackwatch goes on mission to apprehend fat gangster in retaliation for bombing...Overwatch".

Just my cents, eh. I'm happy with the current event loadout of 4 holiday/seasonal, 1 anniversary, 1 lore, but I'd totally take some more of those sweet lore events in place of a few.

TIL Loot Boxes used to glow the color of the highest rarity item in them

Posted: 12 Apr 2018 07:03 AM PDT

https://imgur.com/a/GTRWD I found this when reading the wiki for Loot boxes. This seems interesting, I think that it is a good thing they removed it because watching the items flying up in the air and seeing gold is way better (imo) than seeing it before you open the loot box. I could also see another side of this where it was better because you would know that you weren't going to get something very good before you opened the box, so there was less disappointment.

Can we talk REIN? I feel with every character "balance" his kit becomes more and more irrelevant and forces you to pick other tanks. PS: He also still has a ton of bugs.

Posted: 12 Apr 2018 07:27 AM PDT

Rein used to be the go to tank and now his utility feels like he's falling to the wayside.

As Blizzard "balances" other characters and/or introduces new ones with new mechanics I feel Rein becoming less and less relevant.

He's almost become a niche pick reserved for only a handful of maps and one could argue that even on those maps, there are better tank choices.

I have no idea what Blizzard can do to increase his utility but I do think something should be done.

I don't think just increasing the HP on his shield would fix this.

Your guys' thoughts?

You can now spam voicelines and players will now hear all 4 in a row, even if they overlap.
