An Imperial's Guide to Tamriel. Chapter V: The Mages Guild Posted: 01 Apr 2018 02:27 AM PDT Chapter I: The Daggerfall Covenant Chapter II: The Aldmeri Dominion Chapter III: The Ebonheart Pact Chapter IV: The Fighters Guild Chapter V:The Mages Guild Just a slight disclaimer before I give my opinion of the Mages Guild. I am not a Mage. I have never been seen charging into a dungeon or battlefield wearing my bathrobe and waving a stick around. I'm an Imperial and I charge into battle wearing heavy armour while holding a sword in one hand and a shield in another. I don't use magic. That said however, I somehow still qualified to join the mages guild. Hooray for me. The Mages Guild was originally founded by Vanus Galerion, a high elf from the Summerset Isles. I have to admit that I'm a bit surprised it wasn't a Breton just by judging how the current version of the guild is mostly a giant book club. In my experience if I see someone running across a field with a pack of wolves trailing behind them, nipping at their heels it's usually a Breton mage who has abandoned all sense of self preservation in favour of grabbing a tome in an upturned cart that the wolves had been picking through. Galerion had a dream of uniting all of the mages and bookworms under one banner and allowing the sharing and spread of magical knowledge. Galerion also had other revolutionary ideas, such as allowing anyone to wander in off the street and buy magical items and spells. I'm not saying this one in particular is a good idea, merely revolutionary. In my first draft of this chapter I mentioned Shalidor was the current Arch-Mage, this is apparently incorrect. I however would like to point out that Shalidor is the only person actually trying to lead the guild and the only one who uses the Arch-Mage title despite being some kind of ghost to the best of my knowledge. It seems odd that he'd be allowed to lead in the first place, especially odd for him to attempt it after dead. You'd think a High Elf or Breton would have stepped up and told the odd Nordic man that he could go back to his rest. I'm not saying Nords don't deserve to be in the mages guild but how do they even cast magic? Does Shalidor shoot lighting out of his battle axe or did he just beat up all of the more bookish mage guild types until they let him lead? The island of Eyevea, formerly off the coast of the Summerset Isles used to be the main base of operations for the mages guild. The island was originally owned by the High Elves but was purchased by Shalidor at the cost of some "minor artifacts". The number of times I've come across Shalidor's toenail clippings in jars while going through Auridon makes me really wonder just what it is that the high elves were traded for the island. One has to imagine that they let the Wood Elves negotiate that one to try and teach them responsibility and that the wood elf just spent the entire meeting ignoring the boring nord and staring out the window at the trees in the distance. Having purchased an island at a bizarre price, Arch-Mage Shalidor began his work of building up his new base for the guild. The buildings in Eyevea were built in the classic high elf architectural style. Perhaps thinking "imagine if all the buildings were beautiful but weren't filled with cranky bureaucratic elves?". A dock was even constructed, perhaps in case the mages got sick of taking portals everywhere. Then Shalidor traded his wonderful new island for a book. To Sheogorath. The god of madness. Now, if I were to list races I think are skilled at negotiations my list would include Imperials, High Elves, Bretons, properly motivated Khajiits and Dark Elves. The reason Nords do not make the list is because of situations like this. Shalidor traded an island that he had just finished building a community on in exchange for a single book. This book is called the "Folium Discognitum" and is described as the brilliant insights of rambling madmen. So yes, essentially the Arch-Mage traded his island to a highly unstable GOD OF MADNESS in exchange for a collection of insane ramblings, which if they are anything like the ramblings I've come across in my travels is most likely something along the lines of "I once defeated Joruun in singles combat when we were alone together and nobody else was around. I deserve to be the Skald King now". There's not even a mention anywhere if people were allowed to leave the island first or if Sheogorath just tossed Shalidor the book and then magicked Eyevea off to the Shivering Isles. I feel as though any prospective Imperials looking to join the mages guild should perhaps wait until different leadership is in place. Maybe even just wait for someone who's alive to to take the reigns. Yes you get the never ending fun of collecting books for the rest of your days but at any point you, your home and your loved ones could all be transported to the shivering isles in exchange for a collection of rantings and ravings. I also wouldn't exactly say the Mages Guild pays all that well, at least you get treasure from killing Daedra with the Fighters Guild, with the mages guild you kind of just get the joy of reading tome after tome. Who wants to spend forever just reading someone's rambling thoughts on a subject anyway? In the next entry we will look into the Thieves Guild. [link] [comments]

To Anyone Running Around Ebonheart in the Chef's Outfit... Posted: 31 Mar 2018 01:59 PM PDT I hate you. You gave me a heart attack last night. Lol, j/k. But last night, I was trying to complete Jester Jorunn's request for the Festival, and my porcine robbery was going smoothly. I knew the Butcher's spawn points, had a route planned, and the pig was docilely following my Dragonknight. But then I saw the signature chef's hat in a completely unexpected location. It's probably because I was up 2 hours past my bedtime and functioning on 5 hours of sleep the night before, but I instantly decided that was the Butcher and turned and ran... straight into the arms of the real Butcher, which promptly made me Disresputable. I did manage to get the bride to Jorunn, after paying a fine to the guard on the bridge- they don't confiscate the pig if you pay! But that was tense and kind of hilarious. What unexpected and funny things happened during your festival runs? [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Mar 2018 03:12 PM PDT I personally feel that, by and large, ZOS is doing an amazing job. There's obviously complaints and things which need fixed, but often I think we spend more of our time and energy on looking towards the possible future instead of some overglorified past, and that's a good thing. As each system gets added (housing, Jewelrycrafting, battlegrounds, outfits, etc) and improved (leveling, crown store gifts, noncp campaigns, buffs and damage numbers, etc), one system increasingly shows its age and poor application: Guilds. So what are the problems, exactly, that I'm suggesting we solve? First, outside of a trader and tabards, guilds lack real identity and a feeling of belonging to the world. They still feel meta. And outside of capping a keep in Cyrodiil or buying a trader, they don't really offer in-game mechanics for participation. They are overdone chat lounges. And their practical usefulleness has fallen even lower as player banking and inventory grew with plus and new boxes taking over the role they used to have.
Guild identity may seem insignificant, but in a roleplaying game it's a simple behind-the-scene process that can fundamentally extend the enjoyment of the players and raise the quality of playtime. A quick way to increase identity is connecting guild tabards with other systems in game, including furniture (carpets, banners, etc), horse and mount caparisons (tabards), and possibly even guild related abilities (more later). Also an option is guild achievements where world bosses, dolmens and other world events, upon completion, show participants a quick pop-up of most accomplished guild (leader board) and a list of how many of your guild members have completed that particular event. The concept being that the more frequently a guilds heraldry and name is shown, the more identity that guild has. Upgrades to the heraldry and tabards system, more in line with the outfit system (including a hide tabard option) would be greatly appreciated.
The free form and organic nature of a guild may seem ideal in an rpg, but just like any system many players wanna feel rewarded for participation and doing things with their guildmates. This wouldn't be hard to do as essentially you would just need to add achievements, achievement based rewards, and large goals for players to participate and accomplish together. Mine 1 billion resources. Do 100k dungeon runs. Take 1k keeps. Over the lifetime of a guild these could be significant and show the participation level of the guild. And rewards can be similar. Based off of accomplishing the achievements as a guild, players could unlock Motif fragments unique to Guild Rewards (usable by any guild member in the outfit system and could be variations of current armors), mounts, titles, or even special abilities.
Aside of guild banks and traders, the practical aspects of guilds are nonexistent. Xbox clubs, discord organizations and various other varieties of grouping tools allow us to essentially skip the guild social environment completely. Instead of removing guilds entirely, providing them with the capabilities of adding to the game and to the players experience may be a better approach. New challenges, game modes and Guild events and create a plethora of new content that these players can share in.
While better than launch, the current Guild management tools are still significantly lacking. Guild leaders are penalized with too few ranks, Duty assignments, and tools to manipulate. A more comprehensive system would allow for permission control, unlimited ranks and assignments, third party app tools, calendar and group controls, as well as messaging functions outside of the Limited message of the day.
Obviously there are some difficulties using current housing restrictions to perform the duties of a full Guild Hall. The limitations of housing populations, housing funiture ownership restrictions, and player ability to donate create large hurdles for our current Guild leaders. As has been suggested before, Guild House zones that are much larger then current zones and may even include micro quests and small Adventures are a possible solution. Adding five Guild House quick travel markers on the map edges would allow players to easily select their Guild home to travel to at any time. The zones could hold up to 500 players if not more and would be the property of the guild. All furniture would have to be earned or donated through Guild event mechanics and achievement Rewards, driving more participation from all. Houses would not be purchased and instead would be leveled up and earned through Guild participation. This restricts the capability of solo guilds from having as many resources as large active guilds.
For those guilds that are focused on PVP, Guild keeps in fortified strongholds could also be a thing, adding a level of capture, repair, and defense into the mechanism of play. TL;DR A lot of stuff is good, but guild still kind of suck. Please fix ZOS. [link] [comments]
ZOS, I love the new cosmetic system, but what about collecting disguises? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 11:05 AM PDT I think to round out the cosmetic system it would be nice to have a "disguise" tab that collects world disguises that you come across while leveling. I know some might be the same thing as the motifs, but are some different? [link] [comments]
P... please stop leaving bloodroot forge. Posted: 31 Mar 2018 10:48 AM PDT Its difficult we know that. But if you leave after 1 wipe then seriously you need to get some patience. I don't care how good you are... or at least how good you say you are. Anyone can make a mistake. Even you. So if we wipe and its your fault then you leave then you may have some slight issues. I just want Earthgore man. Please. [link] [comments]

Request to Change Scholar Personality so that they don't have Hypergraphia? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 08:33 PM PDT Hypergraphia is a behavioral condition characterized by the intense desire to write or draw. Maybe make it so that they only do the writing animation after a being idle a few minutes? Otherwise, just hold the book? It just looks kind of silly that it starts up immediately after completing any other action/animation (stop attacking, start writing. run. stop. start writing. walk 2 steps. stop. start writing) . it's too much. Posted: 01 Apr 2018 03:36 AM PDT Just got the Summerset edition and started playing. I was wondering if to sub for PLUS or not mainly due to the DLCs unlock. Considerign I'm level 3 now, at which level is it worth to have all DLCs unlocked? What is the first DLC you will play and at which level you can access it? It is useless to unlock them all at level 3 if I won't touch any of them for the next week or month. [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 03:18 AM PDT Hi, so I've recently come back to the game after a long break (around 10 months) and I've got 4 characters. One in each factions + extra for AD. Community is the biggest reason why I play MMOs, so I've been wondering which is currently the friendliest/the most english-speaking alliance on PC EU? I've noticed a lot of russians and germans in the zone chat for DC and EP, so that's why I'm asking about english-speakers. [link] [comments]
