True Dota 2 - What is the 'tempo' of the game, and how do I control it?

What is the 'tempo' of the game, and how do I control it?

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 01:25 PM PST

I'm aware heroes such as Storm Spirit are good at controlling a game's tempo, but what exactly does this mean?

Why does everyone max Toss on Tiny?

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 06:54 AM PST

I've been watching a lot of offlane Tiny recently, and I don't understand the usage of maxing Toss, since Avalanche is the one doing the double damage in your combo. Is iy just for harassment purposes in lane?

How good is Abbadon right now?

I noticed that he got some pretty decent buffs in 7.10. Is he strong again?

Position 4 Techies?

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 11:17 AM PST

Hi there. Lets talk about Techies.
I'm really starting to get into the Position 4 support role. The early game is very fun and engaging, and I love rotating to lanes that need help/could score a gank. So far I've mostly stuck to Bounty Hunter or Pudge, but I want to branch out. How is Techies in this role?

With the recent nerfs to roamers, can Pudge be once again played in the mid-lane?

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 03:42 PM PST

Title, I ask because he was normally played mid and I'm not sure for what reason but he became a roamer. I feel like any tempo hero can be played mid and pudge is quite a tempo hero if he gets snowballed. The mid level advantage definitely would help with that.

Camera binds for team mates?

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 04:45 AM PST

Is there a way to bind camera controls to team mates similar to the bindable static camera positions? I assume there isn't, in which case I would love to see this being implemented.

Tips for someone who comes from LoL and has mana management issues?

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 02:58 PM PST

As the title says I come from LoL and I have been having issues in DOTA with the mana consumption. It's like, you can only cast 2 spells and you are out early game. Meanwhile in LoL you have items to help keep your mana up so you can poke more. Is there anything I can do here?

Completely lost on visage

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 11:39 PM PST

I've been trying to learn visage for a while (With moderate success) but visage always felt like such an awkward hero. But after the reworks and the eventual stun button I finally feel like it's time to fully learn visage. I've seen it ran as a support, a mid, a carry, an offlane, and I am completely lost as to what is the most optimal position for visage at the moment. I'm also unsure as for the skill build. I could see support visage going 4 4 0 1. I could see core visage going 4 0 4 1 as well as 1 4 3 1. As far as items go I've seen everything from solar crest to atos to HotD to vlads. Please help me understand this bird.

Convince me that BKB is good on QoP

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 01:41 PM PST

I am in the 2k trench, and play hundreds of games of QoP, have a low winrate (47%) on the hero because I play generally with a couple of friends who have calibrated Crusader but are new to DOTA, otherwise I feel it would be quite high.

As you can see, over this stretch, I almost never buy BKB.

I understand what the item does. I am just not sold on why it is such a good item on Queen of Pain, and don't just say "it lets you avoid magic damage and stuns". I mean from a theoretical perspective, if I'm going to spend 4k gold on an item, I really want to understand how it accentuates my hero. To me, it just seems like I can never get the right value out of it. I either use the BKB too early or die with it off cooldown, having done nothing useful for me.

I know that I am still learning and that's why I really want to understand this, so the more you can say on this issue, the better.

Zett, 7.10

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 12:40 PM PST

Zett is my favourite hero and since he isn't really popular in pubs I've found some success with him in my bracket (4k, last month about 60% winrate) despite having a really shitty winrate overall with him (45%-ish). So, anyone here with a bit more insight on the hero than me, what's the definitive way of building him since the talent rework? I think that lvl10 is undoubtedly 8%CDR, lvl15 bugs me a bit, I currently level +3sec Q over the health talent since the hero already has high str stat gain, lvl20 I suppose the attack range is the way to go, scales very well with an added pike (you become a fucking sniper at that time ) but the trap CDR seems really good too if you're behind or you're really good with the trap placement. Also some general questions about the mid game, since my last post here about Arc was about the laning stage,...so I always manage to snag BoTs and Maelstrom under 18mins (along Midas and Aquila). What do you guys build next? How do you find pickoffs to snowball further (is shadowblade core on him for doing that, also blink? Vast majority seems to prefer force staff, but i had some experimental pickups on the blink, and holy shit, so many opportunities for outplays) or do you always play behind your team, placing fields and traps? How do you generally aproach a fight? Should I prioritise split pushing with the clone or to keep him for upcoming possible teamfights? In what kind of lineups do you pick him? Into what not? I know that some questions may really be dumb to someone who plays him regularly but there aren't really many resources from where you can learn about such a demanding hero (Vaxa, russian streamer, is really good with the hero, but I dont understand shit). Also if you have any other resources on the hero please link them, would be really grateful!

TLDR current state of talents and mid game tips.

Blood seeker discussion 7.10

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 06:25 AM PST

So blood seeker got a nice buff that even if not game changing is gonna help a fair bit. Yesterday I had a game as Bs and the amount of times I survived without killing anyone because I was getting perms stunned, but having my teammates do the killings, was insane. Another change that I am not sure how significant is, is having the speed on the boots buffed. I am not sure how impactful that is going to be on a hero that relies on that speed but I feel that even if small could be just the thing that pushes him over the edge. What do you guys think?

I want to see more position 1-2 Tusk

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 09:09 AM PST

This isn't really a viable suggestion. I just am sad that the closest thing to core tusk we've seen since it was released was during TI5 era when Zai played Offlane tusk on secret going mek, solar, blink and stuff. It was one of the few offlaners that could control lane equilibrium.

Tons of people played it offlane, but we really never get to see any big walrus punches. I just want to see tusks going around punching people for damage.

It would probably take some major changes to the hero or mindset of the game for people to even consider picking Tusk as a position 1-2. He already has amazing spells and pretty good talents.

I know all his strnegths as a roamer. But I remember when he first came out, I would play him against bots and just go mid and kill people.

Not an argument against tusk's current strengths, I just wish the game would give him more incentive to play him as a right click core than the utility/support role he is in now

Is hotd viable on pos 4 undying?

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 09:43 PM PST

I came across few people suggesting hotd on Undying. The attack speed aura to make your zombies slow more often since the slow stacks. Coupled this with swiftness aura or speed aura from dominated creeps makes zombies even faster. Maybe even add drums if the situation permits, to counter the ms buff of 7.10 boots. His talents are subpar but tombstone on death and reincarnation has some synergy? I'm not a fan of feeding tombstones so I'm not sure about this path.

LP Wins are over but I am still in LP

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 02:13 AM PST

So, I was shifted to the low priority pool a few days back because of frequent disconnection and shitty net. I needed 5 wins to get out of LP. I got them all, but my net acted up and disconnected 10 seconds before the enemy throne fell. So it wasn't counted as a win for me. Is there any way to get out of this LP hell without playing another match?

MatchID: 3759908544

I thought this was worth a post because I was active throughout the game and it just sucks that I have to play another LP because of this.

Can I Play a Support Character as a Carry During Early Game?

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 08:57 AM PST

I main Lich and his clutch move is called 'Chain Frost' this is a Chain Lightning with ice instead, for my Lich to be effective (Constantly armouring teammates and nuking) It's very useful to grab Aganihm's Scepter (Which makes this attack last forever until it can't spread, it cost 4,200G) I'm thinking to obtain this item earlier, I can Carry a lane. Is this a good idea or should I just try and steal some last hits from other Carry's.

Tyvm for any help and sorry if this doesn't belong here.

And my personal opinion – may they never come back, actual 2 dedicated supports is way more fun.

Convince me that Chen is a good hero.

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 11:19 PM PST

To start off, lemme preface this with that I am not a chen hater, in fact I am (or at least used to be) a Chen player with it being my 3rd most played hero with 61% win rate with over 100 games played.(im 4k so take it as you will) But lately, for what seems to be over couple of years now, dota has evolved into a game where i just cannot pick that hero to tryhard with anymore.

To be frank, i think some people overrate Chen as a hero. I dont know why but i can guess because of the prestige of the hero, or because they think the hero requires high skill to pull off, and that its a measurestick of micro. Who knows. I know back when i used to own as Chen i did feel that i am a god. But seriously i think the hero is just garbage right now.

I think i can come up with a few reasons why this is. it mostly comes down to the hero's kit and difficulty to get farm and levels; and how the hero's supposed strength of pushing can be accomplished by many other better heroes and and the general power creep of heroes vs jungle creeps and meta shifts.

First off, i love the idea of Chen as a hero. It is one of the most unique hero concepts of being a pure jungler. THE most iconic jungler in the game. so by relation, you would think that Chen is the most efficient in the jungle, right? Well obviously he isn't. Because of the conversion of the largest creep, you are actually deleting the farm you get from a big majority of the creep camp. Compare this mechanic with doom, who can insta gib a creep, gain its benefits AND bonus gold. (Same deal with enigma) How is that fair?

and because of this, chen always seems to be a farming snail. He is usually the slowest farming and lowest level hero in the game. so early game you have to decide to just be afk farming or go in ganks. This is where the common man would say, well to be a good jungler, you have to be useful in lanes as well as jungling. well now you run into a catch 22 situation, either you try to attempt a gank and because you have a shit kit, The rng nuke and penetance just seems soo boring and weak. You need perfect execution and a bit of luck with your rng to even think about getting a gank. And of course youre maxing your persuasion first so you'll need levels to even think about ganking. and then use your precious early game to get a couple of ganks, and be as strong as a pool noodle in the mid game because you used too much time ganking and now youre level 9 with a buckler? or you just afk jungle and now you might as well be a Legion commander.

Comparison with enchantress and other heroes: Man i would say a lot of other heroes are better at being chen than chen right now. Beastmaster or lycan can just summon creeps from thin air without haveing to move around camps and wait for cooldown. helm of dom made this even easier for these heroes. and enigma and enchantress is just miles ahead of chen both offensively and defensively.

another thing that is not so objectly apparent but i can feel is the power creep of heroes vs neutral creeps. the game has, to me feels to be more and more fast paced with numerous changes to neutrals. back in the middle of the 6.xx era, the large neutral creeps just feel a lot more powerful even into the midgame and into the lategame. Now because of the power creep of dota, a lot of heroes now can just insta gib your creeps, making the mid game and late game chen feeling hopeless.

I guess the one good thing thats left is that now catapults are stronger, and the send back still has its uses, but man i feel like im grasping for straws here.

THeres probably a lot more things that I have left unsaid but you get the gist. I want to see this hero become strong again, but patch after patch i feel the usefulness of this hero just dwindleling. So, if you dissagree, or see something that I am missing here, please school me on this. I know Chen is still being picked lately in competitive. I do not see why. AFAIK the games where i saw him picked he lost(VP games at ESL katawice i think? might be wrong) anyways, i havent been in this sub for a while so please be nice.
