Reminder Regarding Subreddit Rules and Reports.

Posted: 30 Mar 2018 06:13 AM PDT

Hey!

Alright guys, so as many of you know there's a bunch of drama regarding a few of the Siege Guilds in NA and some events happening across other regions as well. I want to take this time to remind you that while some memes can be found funny, please don't cross the line and break any of our rules on this subreddit. Any and all rules should be taken into consideration when you decide to make a post regardless of the contents of that post.

Flaming, trolling, concern trolling, death threats, and copypastas fall under Rule 1 and Rule 3, and should not be spammed or posted on the subreddit. These (including copypastas) will be removed on any further posts from today and bans will be in place after this point.

Regarding what can be considered Witch Hunting. Do not post private messages referring to anybody in particular. Even if you blank out their name in the screenshot, if you're saying its X person in the post it will still be considered Witch Hunting and result in a removal/ban. With streamers, please still take care in censoring usernames, unless it is a direct screenshot or recording from that streamer's Twitch.tv page. If the post is about a player exploiting, cheating, or engaging in otherwise harmful behavior, please send in a ticket to Black Desert Online's support page instead of posting it here.

We will not accept Vote Manipulation whatsoever on this subreddit. If news comes to light proving anybody of Vote Manipulating they will be banned.

I cannot speak for past decisions but moving forward I want it to be clear that these rules are expected to be followed by everyone, and the mod team and I will do our best in regards to responding to reports.

I want it to be known that I know there will be times where comments/posts are made that are obviously in clear violation of the rules, but if no reports are filed, the mod team won't see. Please report these posts so they can be dealt with. I understand the frustration regarding what seems to be one sided censorship. If there are any posts/comments not reported its easy to go unseen by mods. If there are any posts/comments that appear to be against the rules report, and if they're still not dealt with PM the Mod Team via Mod Mail and it should be dealt with. If you have any questions and/or concerns regarding any posts/comments you can also pm me and I'll look into it personally.

Posted: 30 Mar 2018 12:02 AM PDT

Yes, old valencia 6. am the only one who missing that server? Well I think no. They took away our PvP server and create a new one is called Arsha server( I think it's desync server). Well in that server PvP is so different you can block at the ground. Wtf is this? Okay forget the block wtf is that endless cc chain? Well I'm a Mystic actually with 525 gs and I can do 1v10(with nerf) because once you cc them well they fucked up. Don't tell me because you are a Mystic it's because trash server people are get CC'ed at Superarmor. There is only one reason people are using Arsha and it's because of karma.I just wanna say please give us our Old VALENCIA6 And take back your desync oops I mean Arsha server.

Serious question - how are new players supposed to learn how to PvP?

Posted: 29 Mar 2018 07:40 PM PDT

I'm a few months into the game with mostly all TRI pieces & still trying to get the silver for basic TRI accessories like Shultz. All of this takes a painfully long time, and still makes little difference.

What everyone enjoys is the combat & PvP, when it's optimal for THEM. People start this game not knowing that it's going to take MONTHS for them to be able to even hope to compete. Going to RBF is a complete waste of time. What fun is there in being 1 shot over & over & over again by people so completely out of your gear league? It's not, it's fun for those few people and just sucks for the rest.

The only other "place" to potentially practice is fighting over a spawn camp. Chances are that guy is an alt, a re-roll, bottom line, will flatten you in seconds as well. That's about it.

They put this game out on Steam (not where I came from friend gave me a trial code) and bring in all of these new players, and you think the mass majority of people are going to stick around for this bullshit? Hell no. It's simply not fun, and there is no system in place to actually LEARN how to play.

Why in the fuck is there not an equalized or different gear tier RBF? That would be so much fun and allow new players to learn their class & how to fight against X class / multiple people. Who could possibly argue against that?

This sucks. I want to enjoy this game for the combat & PvP, but unless you literally spend months, and still have to HOPE for the luck to get gear decent enough to compete, you are totally fucked. I don't understand what they expect here.

Getting 2 shot dunked by almost everyone with absolutely nothing you can do about it is not a fun game to play. It sure as hell doesn't make me want to hand over the credit card more. The main part of this game I wanted to experience is not accessible or a viable option for me. That sucks. I can't be the only one feeling like this.

I can handle getting PKed left & right, even by out geared people. Whatever. What I can't accept is that there is literally no ability to actually learn how to play properly. The MASSIVE amount of time it takes just to hope to get to a viable level is absolutely ridiculous. Is nobody concerned about player retention?

And lastly, the Karma system. I had started this game with the understanding that if you fight for a spot, you either win / lose, and the loser moves to a different rotation or server. Sounds great on paper, right?

I'm now geared enough where I can sometimes defend myself, and it turns out people really don't like that. Rarely does someone leave, they just "karma bomb" you while being in an "Un-Decable guild" (Why the fuck is that even a thing?). SO - even if you've won, you're still forced out of your spot, and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it.

Half the time these "karma bombers" actually far out gear me. Once they make me go red they equip their real gear & force me to die to mobs. I would have preferred just being killed upfront to save us both the time.

Great game, great pvp systems! None of this makes any sense. I would never recommend this to a friend looking for a new PvP game had I known how this works or what's involved just to be able to actually play ahead of time.

The Gothenburg Gaming Survey

Posted: 29 Mar 2018 04:14 PM PDT

Dear r/blackdesertonline,

My name is Theo Toresson and I am a student of Science in Psychology at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden - currently writing my master's thesis. The survey aims to gain understanding of the different aspects of gaming that affects psychological well-being. The moderators of your subreddit have been kind enough allow me to post here in your sub. The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete. At the moment of writing, the survey has around 5000 replies, but I am lacking your community. I hope that as many of you (from the Black Desert Online-community) as possible want to help me by doing this survey, because in order to make something out of this I hope to get data from a broad variety of gamers. That means that even if you have a different game that you currently play more, I am interested in you anyway. Also, you should feel free to post this survey anywhere there might be gamers - to friends or on forums, twitch, twitter facebook etc. So if you have a few minutes to spare in between games, use it for this survey - it's for (actual) science. Thank you for your time!

All the best, Theo Toresson, Master of Science in Psychology at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

FAQ:

I have received a few questions and comments on the survey. I can't change anything in the survey due to the fact that it would corrupt the data. Please refer to the FAQ below should any confusion occur during or after the survey.

What counts as "my most played game" in the survey?

It's the game you chose on the first question, your most played game in the last month.

I live in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Hong Kong, Faroe Islands or United Kingdom – where is my country?

The list is lacking a few countries. You can choose any country on the list as long as you make sure to specify the correct country in the very last question of the survey. If you live in England, Scotland or Wales, please select Great Britain.

What kind of device is Nintendo Switch? And what if I play my most played game on both console and computer?

Choose the way you play the game the most. Switch can count as either portable device or console, answer according to your most frequent type of usage.

You ask for streaming, but what about Youtube and other sites for non-streaming video content related to gaming?

Use the "other"-alternative on the question about gaming related activities and fill in your preferred alternative in the corresponding box. For the content to count as "streaming" in the other questions of the survey however it has to be live (e.g. live on Twitch, Mixer or Youtube LIVE).

Some genres are unrepresented, for example fighting games, what can I do?

Use the "other"-alternative and fill in your favorite genre in the corresponding box if it's missing.

You ask for money spent on games each week, but I only buy one game each month, is my spending 0?

No. Calculate your weekly expenditure by dividing your monthly by four, for example.

How can you know that my mental and physical health is related in any way to my gaming?

I can't. Your hand injury might be because of an accident you had yesterday. You should still fill in the box, because even if I can't see the underlying causes of your health (as an individual), I can analyze it on a group level and look for patterns among thousands of replies. If there is no connection between a particular way of gaming and a particular mental or physical state, I won't find any connection. There is no need to worry that you're messing up the data! So try to be as honest as possible in the survey, even if you know that your state is not related to your gaming.

The questions in the end seem focused on the negative side of gaming. What is your motive?

I am a gamer myself, and have been for all my life. I have had several amazing experiences with games, and also a few bad ones. Gaming has many positive effects, there is research to support that. For a minority of people, gaming can have negative effects (just like alcohol, work, sex, candy, exercise, therapy, TV, horseback riding or really anything that can be enjoyable). This particular study is done to explore correlations (not causality) between different kinds of gaming, social and mental health problems (I myself work as a therapist, therefore my focus). Neither I (the author) nor the institution is biased towards gaming in general in an either positive or negative way.

Will I get to see the results?

Yes. The thesis will be in Swedish, but I will post a summary of the results in all subreddits that have been participating in the study, most likely sometime in June 2018.

What is your favorite game?

No one has actually asked me this, but for the record it's Super Smash Bros. Melee!

I have more questions!

Feel free to send an email to gustoreth@student.gu.se and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
