Can we talk about the 500 Steamed Red Dumpling and Drooburt?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 12:24 PM PST

So there's a new achievement to give that damned quaggan 5x100 Steamed Red Dumpling for 5x5 achievement points ... But the Steamed Red Dumpling is a rare drop, and don't even have the number to support the playerbase.

Before the patch the Steamed Red Dumpling was ~4 silver ea. with around 28k supply on the TP (which means if all sold, that could grant 56 players the achievement points). Now it's already 20x more expensive and increasing and only a few left while there's no really good way to get them.

I know that this achievement is not for this year only, but the Steamed Red Dumplings are way too rare atm for this achievement.

The Binding of Ipos now lackluster on Mesmer

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 10:07 AM PST

With this current balance patch, ANET removed the axe that was thrown by Mesmer skill 5 while having Focus equipped (Phantasmal Warden).

Before the patch, casting Phantasmal Warden would cause an axe to be thrown to your target and immobilize them for a short time.

Unfortunately, that was the only projectile attack on the Focus skill set and now we can no longer see the visual projectile effect (the flying eyeball) that The Binding of Ipos is supposed to provide.

Phantasmal Warden now simply summons a phantasm by your side that throws axes, but these axes from the phantasm do not mimic the projectile effect that the legendary is supposed to provide.

I hope I don't sound too dramatic, but I'm feeling a little gutted as I just crafted the legendary two days ago.

Seeing that flying eyeball with it's dark aura really brought the focus to life and was one of the main reasons I chose to craft that legendary over something else.

I'm having trouble understanding why they had to remove the initial thrown axe with immobilize. It was not overpowered by any means.

Please ANET, bring back some kind of projectile on the Mesmer Focus skills.

Little detail in the Lunar New Year race

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 06:10 PM PST

Hey there,

Maybe you have notice that there are some animals in the start line of the race, these animal represents the zodiac simbols of course.

But, if you follow them, you can see that they intectact with each other. For example, the rat go with ox all the way and jump just at the finish line

The race is a representation of "The Great Race", a story from chinese mythology. You can see more here: https://blog.pachamama.org/chinese-new-years-blog

Difference with the game is that dog win, and rat place 2nd

Lucky Dog Harvesting Tool - 1000 gems

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 09:07 AM PST

Condi Mirage (Clone) got hit really hard by the confusion nerfs.

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 10:09 AM PST

Confusion: Heavily reweighted damage from this condition's base damage-over-time component to the damage-on-skill-use component. The condition-damage contribution has been removed from the damage-over-time component and redistributed into the damage-on-skill-use component. This condition remains split between PvE and PvP/WvW.

This now means that the base ticks no longer are affected by Condition Damage. Now, I'm no expert, but I am now only able to get 22k on the golem. Obviously, this would be significantly higher on bosses where they use skills often, but that seems pretty unreliable.

Sneak Griffon change. Bug, bugfix, or nerf?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 12:14 PM PST

First, the facts as I see them.

Since the update, the griffon trick to cancel downwards momentum does not work anymore

For those out of the loop: It used to be possible to cancel much of the downards momentum and movement of a downwards wing flap by holding the button to pull up in the middle of the animation. You could control exactly how much of the momentum you wanted to cancel by holding the button for more or less time during said animation. The result is you would get all the speed of a downwards wing flap, while losing much less altitude. The flipside is doing so would severely diminish your altitude buffer, so trying to later pull back up would result in barely gaing any altitude back. As such, it was not a good technique to employ in every situation, but it had many uses nonetheless.

After today's patch, it seems doing this is no longer possible.

Now, any key press of the "pull up" button during the dive animation is ignored by the game. Even if you hold the button until after the dive ends, it is still ignored. You now have to wait until the dive animation is fully over before pressing the pull up button for it to work.

Now, what I think.

This trick was a lot of fun, and something that raised the skill ceiling in griffon flying, and made it more complex and interesting. I always assumed it existed by design, but now that it's gone, I wonder if it had been a bug.

Either way, I really hope it is brought back. And if it's not...well I think all griffon adventures would have to have their high-scores wiped, because I'm certain this trick must have been used to achieve many of the fastest times, and many of them will now be literally unbeatable (and same goes for most/all other PoF adventures, really).

PSA: You can do the race twice if you finish with 3.5+mins remaining for another achievement tick.

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 03:36 PM PST

Lots of folks don't seem to know this, but you can do the race twice per event - it only takes about 3 minutes per run through (and it gives you 7 minutes total).

Every time you finish it the achievement will tick, even if you have already finished it during the same race event.

True Sniper: Deadeye Rifle ~30k DPS Benchmark

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 10:37 AM PST

The new Deadeye and Rifle buffs were interesting so I thought I'd do a quick test. The results are great, with 30k DPS benchmark.

I used alacrity and quickness as 100% here, if it turns out to not be the case anymore this would change, also alacrity has barely any impact on the numbers. I'd like to know if someone else could achieve something better.

Doing the aetherblade jumping puzzle in one try

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 12:36 AM PST

Thank you for the Scrapper/Engi changes, Anet. I am crying tears of joy.

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 06:03 PM PST

I wasn't going to make a thread for this, but... I have been in such a goddamn good mood all day since reading those patch notes and bounding around in WvW.

Although the Alchemical Tinctures and Transmute changes were somewhat nerfs, I find that overall, I am still more resilient to conditions despite this. There are more ways to reduce condition damage directly and enough ways to remove them actively that I am feeling comfortable with fighting condition heavy builds. Though with Alchemy, Elixir C and Elixir Gun, I do have a lot of condition removal as is, the Barriers + added strength of Shocking Speed and the Impact Savant changes have made Scrapper feel much nicer to play.

I know that myself and numerous others are very happy with this and that the threads that were popping up before the balance patch only served to heighten my happiness when wishes became reality.

I don't think that Scrapper has changed much in the way of roles or viability in any area of the game, but I do feel that it is in a much better place and that it has potential for some strong niche roles. It can provide a solid stream of Super Speed as well as being a good cleanse bot so that's something!

Holosmith is undoubtably better but Scrapper has always been my favorite. I can't express how happy I am to be using my hammer again (:

Unrelated note
Risen Archer tonic working in WvW is something I've also wanted since it was added to the game. Unlike the other combat tonics, you can use siege while in this transformation and your backpack stays visible! Pretty awesome.
