Metaphorically, the humans are the caterpillars going into their FEV cocoons and coming out as super mutant butterflies. Pretty neat.

What is your favorite enemy type to fight?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 11:29 AM PST

Personally, and apparently this is an uncommon opinion, but I like fighting super mutants. I just like how there are different ranks amongst them and they are kind of like 'low smart, much strong' enemies of abundance

I think I finally put my finger on why FO3 feels so different from FO4 to me.

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 01:09 AM PST

In FO3, you really get the message that you're alone. The wasteland is vast, and sparsely populated. You don't run into raiders or NPCs too frequently. You can walk around topside or go down into the tunnels and really feel like there aren't many people left on the planet.

In FO4, I seem to run into enemies quite a bit when I'm out exploring, so I never really feel like I'm alone in the wasteland. Settlements are also a big factor in the game and of course you can equip a companion if you want company. It feels like a much denser population to me.

I don't know, what do you all think?

Romancing Synths: Yay or Nay?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 06:39 AM PST

Spoilers ahoy. Are we still worried about those? It has been two years...

I've seen about a thousand posts skirting the issue, but it's high time we answer this moral quandary once and for all. The other big questions to consider are,

A) do you consider synths to be related to the Sole Survivor B) how closely related are we talking C) is it fair to impose familial ties on a large population of diverse, sentient beings that have barely anything to do with you or each other beyond being 3D printed in the same place with similar blueprints D) what about special cases like Curie E) what relationship do synth replacements have with the people they're based on (are the Warwick kids your step-great-grandchildren??)

Considering all these questions, yay or nay? There's no such thing as over thinking it.

Is there way to get ballistic weave without joining the railroad?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 09:35 AM PST

I don't really like the Railroad because I prefer the Brotherhood of Steel and I know you get the ballistic weave mods for your clothes from Tinker Tom but I don't feel like joining them.

Settlement attacks aren't devastating enough.

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 09:48 AM PST

Anyone else wish that you'd come back to a settlement completely blown to hell and destroyed after a Raider or Super Mutant party came through? Maybe I'll find some of my "settlers" hanging from meatbags or with their heads on pikes later on.

Settlement defense capabilities are over-powered and attackers are under-powered. When I get an alert that my settlement is under attack I usually don't care, because my turrets will take care of the few Raiders and there is no potential damage to really worry about.

Sometimes I wish a Super Mutant Suiciders would rush my settlements and blow them to hell. I'd give me reason to be more strategic on my buildings, more reason to care about protecting them, and more reason to be engaged with them.

Asked this while he was fighting, him and Nick are still going strong

Edit: About 15~ minutes since they started, still going on.

Does anyone know of fo4 mods that make it more like 3/NV?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 01:04 PM PST

I've been playing fallout 4 for a very long time now, and somewhat enjoy it. I still feel like some of the old systems in fallout 3/NV was better. This includes- Perk points and skills, and how that plays with character development Repairing and getting a higher repair skill/relevant gun skill to increase damage, instead of "increases x weapon damage by 20%" Being able to actually rob vendors instead of their stock not being existent in the game Dialogue stops time and focuses on the person you're talking to(this is a huge change to the system and I don't really expect it to exist, but still had to ask)

I think those are the main things, but I'm sure there's more. I've found things like the mod that makes it where there is no quick looting system, and one that mutes the player and only uses angles pointed at the person you're taking to, but that's about it. I know the games will never be the same, as 3/NV's story and choice options were so much greater, and the games are run differently, but I feel like things like this would put a fun nostalgic twist to fo4, and could make it good enough to want to play again. Does anyone know if a mod like this has been made or is being worked on?

Most memorable quest in Fallout 3 (including all DLCs)?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 07:08 AM PST

Just curious what your favorite (side)quests in Fallout 3 are! :) If I don't reply to your comment, it's because I haven't done the quest you mentioned and don't want to spoil it for myself haha.

My personal Top 5 favorites (no order):

  • The Replicated Man

This is a great quest, loved the detective work, the lore behind it (first time we are introduced to the Institute and the Railroad if I'm not mistaken), and multiple outcomes of the quest. Not to mention the quest itself touches upon some fascinating philosophical/moral questions, and is a great reference to Blade Runner/the book it is based on (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?).

Edit: the more I think about, the more amazing the Replicated Man is. I think Harkness' story before his life in Rivet City is extremely fascinating and would gladly watch/read a (well-done) film/story about it. His life as a synth hunter, the captured synths planting the seeds of freedom in his thoughts, the realization of his purpose, and his rapid escape and search for help, coming across the Railroad, who at first don't believe him and think he's there to destroy their organisation.

  • The Superhuman Gambit

This is such a fun little side quest with wacky characters that you just gotta love it. Seeing the comical battle between the AntAgonizer and the Mechanist on the streets of Canterbury Commons is something you don't forget.

  • Blood Ties

I hated this one the first time I played it, but on replaying, it is one of my favorite side quests. What starts off as a message delivery quest turns into a murder/kidnap mystery, with you having to scout out possible hideouts of the culprits - at the end of which, you meet a modern day vampire cult and have to convince their newest member to come back home or let them stay in the cult.

  • The Local Flavor (Point Lookout)

Haven't played The Pitt, Broken Steel or Mothership Zeta yet, but I am pretty sure Point Lookout is still gonna be my favorite DLC. The place is so eerie and refreshing to the Capital Wasteland and the opening quest is some of the most fun I've had: entering an old mansion, meeting a mysterious ghoul, and then teaming up with them as you protect different parts of the mansion from a tribal attack - that was a blast. The rest of the main quest is fun too, but that introduction will always be my favorite part.

  • Reilley' Rangers

This is a great and memorable one for me too. Accidentally coming across an injured mercenary in Underworld, who then tasks you with rescuing the rest of the group who are stranded on the rooftop of a hotel after being ambushed by super mutants, was pretty neat. Fighting your way to the top and then defending you and the rest of the crew from the waves of mutants is all just some big and bloody fun.

Honorable mentions:

Oasis, where you get to decide the fate of the tree-god Harold was really interesting, too. The Dark Heart of Blackhall was pretty neat as well, especially since it is related to the Dunwhich Building (which I haven't explored yet but I've heard it is fantastic and extremely creepy)

Is an Xbox one worth it for new Vegas and 3?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 03:19 PM PST

So I currently have a ps4, and while it's great, the backwards compatibility is dogshite (paying $99.99 a year just to play a game for a few weeks? Piss off.). I currently have $300 to spend, which would be enough to get the xbone and both games. Is it worth it?

What is your favorite faction, even if you never sided with them? (Possible spoilers!!)

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 02:32 PM PST

Personally my favorite in NV was the Legion. The old-fashioned idea of a Roman legion was fascinating to me in the dystopian landscape. Caesar fell back into civilization of the late B.C.'s instead of trying to make it anything like the society before the War. However I knew they would never be good for the Mojave so I stuck with the NCR.

In 4, I enjoyed the Brotherhood of Steel. I never sided with them, because their militaristic view seemed to extreme for me. They kinda just showed up and forced their way into the Commonwealth. Went from a small scouting team to BAM this big blimp soaring through the sky like and invasive force. I stuck with the minutemen or the institute for the endings.

I was just wondering what factions you guys liked but would never side with?

What Fallout: New Vegas DLC should I get?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 11:30 AM PST

I've played through New Vegas quite a bit and I love it, but only the base game, with no DLC. In your opinion, what DLC should I get? Are there any I should avoid? Are Courier's Stash and Gun Runner's Arsenal even worth it?

Fuck. That. Place. I love it, but fuck that place. That atmosphere made me the most uneasy Ive been in Fallout since Dead Money on Hardcore.

Downvoted for speaking positively of F4. Got it.

VR has a very canned way of reloading so I had to improvise.

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 03:30 PM PST

The GIF in question.

In case you are wondering what I'm trying to say here, in Fallout 4 VR, when you press the "reload button" a new magazine magically appears in your weapon (with an animation). In other games, like H3VR, you have to reload the weapon realistically. I hope one day they add this option for Fallout 4 VR, but until then I do this.

My thoughts on No Mutants Allowed

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 11:58 PM PST

Hi, i'm new here. After discovering this subreddit, i can finally write down my thoughts on the salty kings of ''not muh fallout''.

Keep in mind, i do dislike Fallout 4 and want the series to be more RPG-ish like it used to be, but i'm not so bitter about it like the NMA guys.

Here we go.

I think we're all guilty of falling for the "they changed it now it sucks" trope. It's just some people act way more extremist towards said changed product, and then go on to attack those who do like it. I think the idea of turning Banjo-Kazooie into a car game with Nuts and Bolts, when it was originally meant to be a real platformer and advertized as such at first, was pretty infuriating though. The same can be said for turning a CRPG into a FPS with lore inconsitencies and less choices I guess, but i won't call you a tasteless casual or a ''Bethesda Drone'' if you like it.

The points raised by the NMA guys are often accurate in what they're trying to say (though they also exaggerate sometimes and probably glorify the originals sometimes) but their hateful, relentless attitudes understandably draws the ire of just about everyone else and causes them to be viewed with contempt. But they won't stop or change because Western CRPG fans are going extinct (which sucks because i like Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment) and there will be no one to hold the flag of the originals high and probably partially because it's just too far gone at this point.

One of the themes of New Vegas and its DLCs (made by the guys who worked on the first two games) is the concept of letting go, which is something that they need to take to heart.

Actors as the Fallout Protagonists

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 01:18 PM PST

If you could choose well-known to relatively well-known actors to play the Fallout protagonists:

Fallout: The Vault Dweller

Fallout 2: The Chosen One

Fallout Tactics: The Initiate

Fallout 3: The Lone Wanderer

Fallout New Vegas: The Courier

Fallout 4: The Sole Survivor

Which actors would you choose and why?

Which Fallout 4 DLC should I start with? Automatron, Far Harbor, or Nuka-World?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 03:50 PM PST

I just finished up most of the main quests for Fallout 4 (on my first playthrough) and I'm just now installing the DLC. I just wanted to know which DLC would be the best to start with... or if there's a certain order I should play them in or something like that.
