With panorama, verified pros should be a possible feature.

Posted: 01 Feb 2018 01:30 PM PST

DotA 2 has just received a big update, and with it comes an addition to the already good in-game players/teams system, where the top featured matches often are ranked with pro players on both teams. Now on top of that, the game shows you who is a recognized pro player with a simple icon besides their nicknames, take a look. When the eventual update comes to CS:GO, it should be a no-brainer to be added, and maybe with a little improvement with the verification extending to the player profile on the game.

Tips and Tricks for Spray Control

Posted: 01 Feb 2018 11:08 AM PST

I have over 3500 hours in csgo, but recently I came up with some tips, which I feel have helped my spraycontrol a lot, so I thought I would share.

First of all is a hand-eye coordination tip: I don't have the best hand-eye coordination, so for me spray patterns don't "feel" exactly what they look like. To take this into account, I started by finding out what my hand is actually doing when I think "pull down".

To do this you can load up a map where there is a good center to start from. I prefer to use Training center 1.5c.

Simply aim at the center, close your eyes and try to pull down the way it feels most natual. (If closing your eyes feel weird, then just try not to look at your crosshair) Example

It turns out for me that I pull slightly to the right. I can use this to more accurately determine what a correct spray feels like. For example for the first bullets of the m4a4 I feel I have to pull to the left, and with the ak it feels almost straight down.

Next is training the spray itself. For this I will highly recommend using weapon_accuracy_nospread 1. Bullet spread just makes it harder to see what you are doing wrong in your spray. I also like using sv_showimpacts 2 (1 shows both server and client, which you don't need if you have nospread on) (if you like blue better you can use 3 instead of 2 ^_^). Spray training

At first train only a few bullets of the spray, and then add more to it. Try to notice the difference between what it looks like and what it feels like (e.g. when the mp9 spray goes to the side, it feels like I actually have to pull a bit upwards).

Remember also that the first 7 or so bullets are the most important! After that you are most likely dead or have killed your opponent, so focus on the first bullets more!

After you feel confident in the "static" spray of the weapon you are training, it is time to move on to moving targets. For some reason it feels like time passes slower for me when I am shooting at bots and players compared to a wall, but to find out what the case for you is, I recommend using Bot Aim v5d or Aim Botz (I personally prefer bot aim, since the bots move more natural). Example

For this training, try to continue the spray after you hit the bot for 10 or so shots, and try to track the bot if you don't get the instant headshot. Notice in particular if you pull down too much or too little.

Finally, when you feel confident in this, it is time to practice in your favorite deathmatch. For this I have the following tip: record demos of yourself using record <demoname> and play them back with playdemo <demoname>. Example

Since you can't use nospread or show impacts in servers, the demo can enable you to see what happened after. This is how I found out I tend to do the spray pattern too fast when I am against real players. To easier watch demos you can use a script to control the demo (my script) (also good for overwatch)

If you made it this far, well done! I am not good at short posts...

I think this helped me quite a bit, and I hoped it will help you too! If you have any good tips for spraycontrol (or training in general), share!

TL;DR

  • Find your hand-eye coordination by pulling straight down with your eyes closed and notice the difference between what you feel and see

  • Practice the spray starting with a few bullets and then adding more on. Nospread and show impacts are good for consistency

  • Continue to practice against bots, as spraying against moving targets can feel different compared to a wall

  • Finally practice against real players in a deathmatch. Recording demos can help you determine what you do wrong.
